Quintessential local dive bar... Stopped by GFI for the first time to get a burger and beers on a Sunday. Pretty cool lil' place when you walk in... It's your traditional working class neighborhood watering hole that's well kept and nicely decorated. GFI has a good looking menu and decent tap beer selection. The burger and fries were awesome... Not quite on Henry's level, but it held its own. Plus, the food is really well-priced ($11.99 for a 1/2 lb burger with fries). The one knock on GFI was the service, which was not good. The bartenders/servers were friendly but were completely preoccupied BSing with the bar regulars... We were all but ignored other than to take our initial order (we prob would have gotten another couple of beers, but no one ever came back around again) - John Taffer would have had an absolute conniption. Throw the poor service out and GFI would be 4-5 stars.

Dark and gloomy. The bartender didn't say much. I've had better frog legs at the Chinese Buffet. The only good thing was that they had green frog drink specials, and they were good at a great price.

Very nice server. Broken booth seats. Small and a little smelly. It is a dive bar. Take it how you will. Food decent. Good prices.

I would suggest getting there as earlier, rather than later those days. I would love to see the asparagus/chicken/prosciutto with the brothy sauce back on the menu. Please!!!!! The jambalaya is made to order because I was able to get it without pork. The Cajun pasta had no flavor and the pasta was gummy. The was friendly, but the forgot some things we ordered and overcharged us. I gave 3 stars because there were a lot of misses. The jambalaya really was the best thing of the dinner. 10/10 I do recommend.

The smell of food hit me before I even got inside. The seats were comfortable and they even had bar searing as well as an event space room. The food really deserves its own review but I can't leave two . Everything I would get again no questions asked! My only suggestion would be maybe add a tad of seasoning to the wings but the smoke flavor and sauce was too tier! Easy 10/10 for me!

Ducky's - duck pin bowling is fun, but is the food good?…read more Ducky's advertises themselves as a scrap kitchen. So...it should be good, right? They don't have a very big menu. There are five entrees to go along with a small amount of burger, chicken tender and appetizer choices. I went with the burger of the month - the pizza burger. The friendly waiter said the pizza sauce was made in house from scratch. The sauce was outstanding! It was thick and sweet with a bold tomato paste taste. The bun was soft and slightly grilled with a buttery flavor - very nice! It is odd that the burger is served in halves and vertical. The burger patty was very thin and cooked to a medium well done consistency - I would prefer medium rare but they didn't ask my preference. I thought the burger was over cooked and a bit tough/crunchy on the edges. It did have and nice high quality meat flavoring as it is sourced locally. The burger was covered with grilled pepperoni. This added a nice "pizza" flavor when combined with a nice bedding of mozzarella cheese. My wife really liked her chicken tenders. They were nice and moist. The breading was unique, tasty and crispy. She said the fries were very good while the best part might have been the house fry dipping sauce. That sauce was a nice combination of southwest and traditional meat flavorings. The side salad, to replace the fries, was fresh yet very small. The salad came in a half-ball type dish that was slightly larger than half a baseball. The half ball was actually unstable to eat out of. I had to cup the bowl with one hand to keep it from tipping over. The salad had a few side tomato and pepper parts added. There just isn't much room for things in this small of a dish. We decided to try the strawberry bread pudding for dessert. This was a fantastic dish! The breading was basically two pieces of fried French toast. It was soft on the inside with a cinnamon swirl and strawberry pieces. The breading was drizzled with a thin moderately sweet strawberry flavored syrup. The syrup was accompanied by some fresh whipped cream also bathed in syrup. Overall, Ducky's does have good food. They have a limited menu at moderately expensive prices. My preference would be to sit down and enjoy the scratch made items versus squeezing them in while you bowl. Also consider dinning at Ducky's and walking across the street the Pearl Arts Center for a program.

Lanes are super close together (duh) so the room is limited. I recommend 2 lanes if you're doing more than 6 people. 1 hour was enough time to play one game with six people at a casual pace. Table space while you're bowling is limited so we usually bowl with drinks and a group appetizer and then move back to the tables to have an actual meal. Lots of fun with good food in a friendly atmosphere. Get the blood Mary "all dressed up" (yeah I know it's $24 but it's well worth it) We tried the Crying Johnny Smashburger (tastes like POWERS used to. IYKYK), the chicken TENDIES, and the red velvet pancakes they have for brunch. We drank the PB & J old-fashioned, a Paloma and that bloody Mary that I would seriously consider trading my teenager for. Today was our 2nd time in 2 months and we plan on going back sooner than later. Give it a shot. You won't be disappointed.

Big Eyed Fish on Wells Street - when you have a craving for Fish & Stroh style fish and tarter…read moresauce Yes, I know that I could go to Stroh to get this old time flavor. However, Big Eyed Fish is pretty good fish in its own right, local...and flavored like the taste I remember from the past. We visited the Big Eyed Fish location on Well's street. They have an express shop located on Huegenard Road and another dine in location at Leo Crossing. This location has been in service since 2003. It has a nice diner feel with super friendly service. You can find parking on the street or in the lot behind the store. The inside is rather large and works well for parties up to about 8 diners. There is a small bar and TV's if that is your thing. They also have a big and varied menu including breakfast items. Here is a run down of the food items: -Fried Fish: the white fish fillet is thin and fried with a thin breading. The fish is moist and tender. It will flake apart with a fork or by hand. The breading has a slight amount of seasoning and isn't very oily to taste. It has a taste similar to the Fish & Stroh style if you are familiar with that. The fillets are not very filling. For an extra $3...I went with the all you can eat option. Delicious fish! -Tarter Sauce: I love tarter sauce. In fact I might order fish to go with my tarter sauce - lol. This mayo based sauce is reasonably thick, somewhat sweet and has a hint of pickle flavoring. It's creamy and makes a perfect complement to the fried fish flavor. -Baked Beans: this side really surprised me. The bean is small and contained hamburger pieces. The sauce had a slight BBQ flavor but not enough to classify it as a BBQ baked bean dish. The meat flavor was a nice add to the smooth tomato spiced sauce. Delicious!! -Cole Slaw: I kind of use KFC as the standard for Cole Slaw. This is very similar. The slaw pieces are cut very small with only one kind of slaw. Seemingly no additives - just slaw. The sauce is mayo based, a bit more sweet along with a hint of vinegar. I loved this side too! -Hush Puppies: these balls are pretty small in diameter. The inside is very modista and sweet with that southern style corn bread taste. The outside is thicker, a bit oily to taste and has a mild corn bread taste/texture. These are probably some of the best hush puppies I've had in my southern raised life.
