This place is pretty laid back, and has a sort-of Applebee's feel. If you go in expecting that kind of service and food, you will have a fine time. Our service was decent. Nothing fantastic, but nothing to complain about. Coconut Chicken Salad- The chicken is amazing, slightly sweet, and super crunchy. The dressing was a great balance between the greens and the chicken, and it resulted in a well-balanced salad. I was a happy camper. Pizza- Simple, bready pizza in a HUGE quantity. The two slices with a salad for lunch is a TON of food. My husband was happy with the amount for sure. The quality was decent for pizza and was good. Shrimp Scampi- Two in our group had this and said it was very bland. Neither of them finished and they were both very disappointed. Lobster Mac and Cheese- Everyone at the table loved this! What a joke! We have a baby and were staying across the street so wanted to grab a quick and convenient dinner yet not be sitting in a bar with an infant. Perfect! Green Mill has a restaurant side and a bar side. We went in and were "greeted" by the hostess who said, "oh you're bringing a baby to the bar". No. We are here to sit in the restaurant. She told us that she wasn't opening that side up for families who only wanted to eat - their money is in the bar. So, our family and the family with younger kids behind us all walked across the street to Old Chicago who was happy to have families. To this horrible hostess, I hope you never have kids and are forced to decide if your children will sit in a bar so you can eat. To the owner, we ended up spending close to a hundred bucks at the other establishment because YOUR STAFF didn't want families in. Update (6-17-19). The business sent us a gift card for our troubles as well as a phone call from some corporate office asking us to try and give them one more try. We were traveling for the holiday weekend so made a trip to Canal Park so we could eat specifically at the same store we had troubles at. Walk in with another couple along with our children at 8pm. We asked very politely to be seated in the restaurant part of the business and not the bar. The VERY rude hostess (not the same one as last week) said, "look, we're not here to cater to families who decide to bring their kids to bars. Maybe you should think about that the next time you decide to drag your kids to a bar." We all looked at each other and realized that our business would go across the street again tonight. This place by far has the best pizza and staff of any pizza place around. Its Saturday evening and the place was crowded yet they were still able to quickly seat our party of 14, and let me just say, we didn't have to ask for anything! Our drinks stayed filled, they brought extra napkins which was probably because there were some children(yes, THEY are the ones that need extra napkins- definitely not us adults), and our pizzas and appetizers came out in a timely manner and flawless. I first tried Green Mill at the Chili Cook Off 2016 (earlier this month), but this post will reflect the last real order I had there. This weekend I had my first show with the Ballet, and my partner unfortunately could not make it. To make up for it, I was delivered a "deep dish" pizza from this location (awwwwe, how sweet - a keeper, I know!). Completely starving from the energy needed to perform, I met the pizza with great enthusiasm. Now, if you've read my latest review on Pizza Luce, you'll know that nothing compares to true deep dish pizza - having lived in Chicago for the past three years before moving here. Holding the teeny tiny box in my hands, aroma slapping me in the face, I noticed that the weight was a little different than expected. It was much lighter than I thought it would be. Upon opening the box, I felt a great sense of disappointment. This is no real deep dish, just a much thicker pizza with more cheese on it and sauce on top. I've realized that this is the true reason why people in Duluth dislike deep dish, it is because they have never truly had the real thing! The rising crust pizza with extra cheese and sauce on top was okay - but really, it should be called "thick crust pizza" if anything. Wouldn't know how the food is like. Never got served. Went in, party of 4 (2 kids) at around 4:30pm on a Saturday. Four hostesses and about 6 waitresses standing around talking about high school stuff. Got seated in the middle of the place and started to time them only after I noticed we were ignored. Waited 10 minutes (official time, not counting the time before I started timing) and left for another place. Let the manager know but she didn't seem to give a damn. I guess Duluth's economy is doing well where they don't need vacationer money. Not a problem and I'm not angry about it. It was probably going to be crappy bar food anyway. Over the busy Labor Day weekend, we were able to totally score a table for 10 + 2 infants as walk-ins. It was shocking, because the restaurant was busy... but yet they were able to seat us right away. The food was plenty tasty. We had a few appetizers: Cheese curds Coconut chicken strips salads And then a bunch of different entrees from Spinach tortellini, wraps, burgers... you name it. I just stuck to a basic cheeseburger with pepper jack cheese - - very, very filling! So I split it saved for later. It was really good. For the short while we waited for a table, an employee (I believe maybe a cook visiting off the clock) told us how this location won the "Best Burger" award contest in Duluth or something. They no longer have that burger on the menu, but he advised the Jalapeno Bacon thing is closest to it. So naturally we had a couple in our party try that - - and they were impressed. Server was awesome... very attentive for a large party. She was great! This restaurant ended up working out perfectly for us.... especially with a stroller for twins, the ramp inside the restaurant helped out quite a bit. read more

Now I know why everyone reccommend the pizza because the wings I ordered were just OK. Having recently relocated to Duluth, MN, I tried to find a few normal things that Honolulu, HI didn't do well - like Pizza, Microbrew and grinders. Happily, Duluth has all three. My first stop for pizza is one of my old favorites from my days in Minneapolis - the Green Mill. Accepting whatever the two previous reviews said, I was there for deep dish pizza and the Green Mill delivered (well not really "delivered" in the classic sense - i picked it up myself). For those who do not know, the Green Mill servers a really good deep dish pie. Sure it's not Gino's East in Chicago or Patxis in Palo Alto - but its good. The crust is tasty and soft on the inside, the cheese is thick (and real) and the sauce comes with large chunks of tomatoes. All in all, it's a decent take on a Chicago classic (and much better than places like UNOs or Old Chicago), and it is reasonably priced (a large one topping pie was $19.00 opposed to a large Dominos pie in Hawaii which is $26.00). While it may be true that it is not the most imaginative place or that they treat tourists differently than the locals - please remember two things. 1. GM is famous because its pizza. It doesn't have to be overly imaginative, it just has to produce good pies (let CPK take care of the trendy slices). 2. Although I have not seen summer here, I understand that GM probably caters to tourists - IT IS IN CANAL PARK a.k.a. Tourist Central. read more

I'm going to have to lower my rating of Green Mill to two stars after my most recent experience.... We ordered a pizza and a well done burger. The woman on the phone repeated the order correctly before completing the transaction: When the delivery finally arrived after quite a wait, the burger was almost completely pink and the pizza crust was doughy and not cooked very well at all. There were a few vegetables sprinkled here and there on the "Extreme Veggie Pizza," but was by no means extreme. Original review: Pretty good pizza and good pasta. The Desert Fire pasta is good as well as the Linguine Primavera and if you like ravioli, I would recommend the butternut squash ravioli. Unfortunately, Green Mill does not serve food as late as some other establishments in the area. It is a bummer when you have a craving for some good appetizers or pizza and you walk into Green Mill after a late night in Canal Park and you are reminded that the kitchen has already closed... forcing you to settle for somewhere else. Green Mill also offers a delivery service. I ordered some pasta recently... it arrived around 35-40 minutes after placing the order. I was super hungry and excited to eat! When I opened it up to dig in... it was a plate with the toppings (some vegetables and meat) but no pasta! I was bummed. I called to let them know about the mix-up. The woman who answered the phone put me on hold for a few minutes and then someone else came on the line and asked me to explain what happened again. I told her about the delivery I received. She said "Well that is definitely not what you ordered." She was very nice and apologized for the inconvenience. She asked what she could do to make it right. I asked if she could have someone make up some pasta and deliver it to go with my pasta toppings. She said she could do that no problem. Unfortunately, I had to wait over an hour after I called to get the pasta. By this time, it was very late and I had to sit and watch everyone else finish their meals long, long before my dinner arrived. I wish I would have just cooked up some noodles myself instead of waiting for them to be delivered. It would have been much faster. When the pasta finally arrived, the delivery man was very apologetic and said he didn't know how that could happen. He was very nice and the order was almost perfect the 2nd time... they just skimped a bit on the meat this time. It was nice and hot when it arrived. It was also delicious. read more

The minute I heard the name I was a bit put off. The Duluth Green Mill shares the name of a historical jazz club in Chicago where I had a less than stellar time at. I gave the Duluth spot a fair shot because surely they're not connected to the Chicago spot. I've eaten at the Green Mill once and had delivery once. My ratings vary between my two experiences. My dine-in experience was definitely a 4. My walleye sandwich was utterly delicious. The sandwich is huge and easily makes 2 or 3 meals. The waitress was friendly, the restaurant clean, and had a laid back vibe. It's nothing fancy, but the Mill doesn't market itself that way so I had no unmet expectations on that account. One of my happier memories of my dine-in experience relate to my waitress. I ordered a vodka club soda and when I inquired about the size differences that were offered my waitress was cool enough to let me know that the larger size didn't have more alcohol, but rather more club soda for a higher price. Shame on Green Mill for this, but high fives to my waitress for being honest about this. Onto my second experience. I'd give it a 3 star rating. I didn't have any issues placing my delivery order nor with delivery the itself. However, I wasn't too thrilled with the food my friends and I ordered. We had nachos, pizza eggrolls, and a mushroom cheeseburger and fries. The pizza eggrolls were pretty damn tasty, but the nachos and burger were nothing special. They were mediocre and over priced for what they were. I personally thought for the location in the country and quality of food the prices should have been 3/4 or even 1/2 of what each item cost. I'll definitely go back for the walleye sandwich and perhaps the pizza eggrolls, but that's probably it for my Duluth Green Mill experience. read more

Absolutely horrible.... Sat down right away and the waitress took our drink order. I tried to order a tap beer but the first two I ordered off the drink menu they didn't have. After my third attempt I found one they did have. Started with an appetizer, the cheese curds. They came out quick and were very good. Now on to the entrees, I ordered the Chicken Parm, my wife ordered the Cilantro Lime Shrimp Salad, and my 3 kids ordered off the kids menu. 15 minutes after our order was taken, a young waitress came out to inform my wife that they were out of the shrimp for her salad. Which she didn't mind substituting chicken instead. 35 minutes later out comes our order... well 3/4 of it anyway. My son didn't get a cheese pizza until we got the check. My wife's salad had no dressing, my daughters Alfredo had so much pepper on it, that it was inedible. My sons French fries were cold. It was one of thee worst restaurant experiences in my life. Definitely will not be back. But they did end up taking the 5.99 kids menu cheese pizza off the bill...lol read more

Absolutely love this place. Always my first choice when going to eat in Duluth, MN. The wings here are right up there with the best I've had. They have excellent choices in sauces, like the extreme Jamaican, Jim Beam, and Parmesan Garlic. (just some of my faves) Pizza speaks for itself here, it is excellent, however I can't quite pull myself away from my favorite meal here, the Tortellini... Amazing smoked prosciutto, healthy portions of mushrooms, an excellent cream sauce, and mouth watering tortellini. So good.
