We just bought a 1940's-era home in Niles, and have had Green Tech out twice. The first time was a medium kitchen job--replacing metal pipes with PVC, installing a garbage disposal, and running lines & connecting a dishwasher. Completely satisfied with Green Tech Plumbing. I needed some advice or inspection on my sump battery. Instead of a service call, the owner of the company texted me a few things to check, and I was able to resolve it. Super helpful! Then, my mother needed plumbing assistance with a basement that occasionally gets water from the sewer line to the street backflowing during very heavy rains. Green Tech came out, suggested a very cost effective way of dealing with it (retrofitting the basement drains with check-drains that seal shut when a backflow condition exists), and a fair estimate for the work. We also agreed that doing video inspection of the clay sewer line would be a good idea, and set an appointment for the next week. The plumber that came out was friendly and professional, and declared the sewer line 100% open upon inspection. Then he got to work on the check-drains, got it done faster than estimated, and so the bill was about 40% less than the estimate. So each job is unique and this one was probably a bit easier than expected, but just charging what it took said a lot. In summary: Excellent communication, flexible on the time to come out for an estimate (6:30am, no other plumbers I called would be that accommodating), fair pricing (I don't think $150 an hour is out of line, given that that covers estimating time, expert labor, truck and tools, overhead and profit), and quick and tidy workmanship. My mom's water problem got solved for a bill of approx. $450- not bad, considering! I'm going to just call Green Tech when I need a good local plumber. These guys are tops. read more

These guys were great. Kevin responded to my inquiry for turning on the water at the buffalo box right away. He was the ONLY one of many plumbers to suggest that the City of Chicago may turn on the water for free. Mind you this would put him out the opportunity to make easy money for a quick task, but he told me anyway which I think was amazing. Unfortunately this wasn't the case as apparently the house we have an offer on is a really weird type of foreclosure. Any who, Kevin made it happen the next day AND he gave me a reduced rate from his initial quote because it was such a simple task. The guy he sent out (Tim I believe? I am really bad at remembering peoples names it's a definite fault on my end) was super friendly, helpful, and patient. We just bought a house and on our first night living there discovered that we had a massive leak from the upstairs bathroom into our basement bedroom closet. Not good news. We called a couple of plumbing companies in the area and nobody was able to come look at it in a timely manner. Then we called Green Tech. They were able to schedule an early morning visit that following day. Dan showed up on time even with the snow that was falling. He immediately located the problem and was able to fix the leak right then. He also answered all of my fiancé's questions regarding a weird plumbing set up in the basement, Gotta love old houses. Not reliable - they have doubled prices and don't return phone calls. I used Green Tech a few weeks ago for what should have been an easy repair, they came out and spent 30 min and "fixed" the problem. Not only did the problem not get fixed, but they are charging double their hourly rate now - it's $195/hr - robbery! After they "fixed" the toilet, the water was running a lot - so much so that we had to turn off the water and were unable to use it. They came back and said it was "fixed" again - yet the problem persists. I then called them to come back and fix the leak every day for 4 days in a row and no response. Not even a return call. They took my money and refuse to fix the problem that they "guarantee" for a year. I had to find another plumber and pay them to fix what Green Tech couldn't and wouldn't. Save your money - use another company! read more

I have used Green Tech on 4 occasions in the last few years. Kevin is attentive, quick to respond and tells it like it is. They have done slow drain servicing for me, they have come to my immediate rescue on a main line plug that created a backup, and most recently they shot a camera down my main line and determined that I had a 60 year old connection from my home to the city main that was broken and causing washout causing my patio to sink. Kevin was there within an hour and then quickly dispatched Nick and Mike to come and dig up and repair the problem within 4 hours. Unreal! I, like many homeowners, dread the need to call in professionals for HVAC, Electrical, and Plumbing because we are predisposed to the notion of getting ripped off. NOT with these guys. My 97 year old mother-in-law was given an outrageous estimate to repair or replace her 65 year old bathroom sink from another plumbing company. I contacted Kevin at Green Tech and found out that he is familiar with her classic Crane sink. On their first visit, it was determined that the repair parts for that sink would be very expensive, and a replacement sink was suggested. After calling another local plumber and getting an answering service that scheduled me for an emergency appointment about 5 hours after I needed something done, I called Green Tech and spoke to Kevin about my basement floor drain backup that was seemingly about to engulf our entire basement in water. I had a couple of super clogged sinks and tried drano, self rodding, nothing worked. I first called another plumber who couldn't fix the clogged drains without tearing apart a huge hole in my wall. So I decided to get a second opinion and thank goodness I did. I spoke to Kevin who was super quick to responding and get a plumber out. The plumber was courteous, polite , and worked fast. He did have to open up the wall but made a small opening that isn't noticeable compared to the other plumber . Regardless, my two sinks were unclogged within little over an hour. Green tech won me over as a customer for life because in the plumbing business you will get the sales pitch of you need this or need to upgrade to that to solve your problem. But not green tech. I feel compelled(I was not paid for this review) to speak out. I had Green Tech come out the first time for an emergency. We had just purchased a home, and of course within 8 weeks we had a flood in our basement. Kevin had someone out promptly and it was repaired quickly. The 2nd time was to rod out the main sewer line. This time I decided to shop my service, and we ended up having Green Tech handle the job. Once again, it was done promptly and Tim was great to work with. The pricing was on point. Kevin did give a higher estimate, but he did say it would most likely be cheaper. He wanted to give an honest estimate in a worst case scenerio. He refused to do a bait and switch and he personally followed up once the job was complete. Quality work and honesty in this line of business is usually difficult to find. I recently had a few plumbing issues that that required immediate help. After calling a few plumbers, Green Tech stood out from the rest. Not only were they the most reasonably priced, but they seemed to be very attentive to my issues. In fact, I had to fix my kitchen faucet and bathroom faucet and in both cases, Eric from Green Tech recommended that I call the manufacturer first to see if they could cover the cost of a new faucet. I appreciated his advice and patience as it turned out in both cases he was right. He gladly waited and came back at no extra charge. We had a major issue in the house that led us to discover that our sump pump stopped working and had several inches of standing water in our crawl space.
