I've been coming here for many years, but it's been a while. Came last weekend, and was really disappointed. The service was practically non-existent. When I walked in, even though two servers made eye contact, neither acknowledged me for close to five minutes. Finally one said "Picking up?" (No, I was dining in). Our server barely checked in with us even after my companion arrived, and everything seemed like an exercise of flagging someone down (to take an order, to ask questions, to get a drink refill, to get the check). The food is still good, but I was surprised how much the prices had gone up. The value for the experience just doesn't match up any longer. Honestly.... What the fuck.. this was the most hipster place I've ever been to. Their food is "pre-made," boi what do you mean pre-made the food was just slug and slush, it was just goo. But, honesty it was like okay if you wanna feel "healthy" and you're doing something to fix your fucked up life but other than that, a McDonald's Big Mac would be better than this bullshit. Waiter was nice though, but still didn't tip because when my partner asked if they could remove the cheese (dairy allergy) he said no and that was it. He told us it was all pre-made and removing the cheese wouldn't be possible. After we ordered, we could hear the microwave opening and shutting and beeping whenever it was done cooking our food... knowing that our food was microwaved and pre-made for god knows how many months is astronomically criminal. Felt like I discovered a hidden gem because the location was just off the path. You enter into a calm and tranquil environment. The decor has a Moroccan / Tibetan vibe . I ordered 1/2 Avocado Sandwich and bowl of 3 bean soup. I started with the soup which was hearty and earthy. I was full after that! I was determined to explore more so I read my book and eventually felt ready to take on the heap of micro greens, lettuce and avocado piled into two pieces of bread. It's places like Green Temple that convince me to go fully vegan! I'll start with the food: I got The 4 Bowl with garden mix, baked tofu, baked potatoes, avocado, and their signature tofu sauce. I absolutely loved the tofu sauce; I even asked my waiter how they make it. Even though this 14$ entrée was simple, the sauce gave it an unique, almost sour taste. However, it's not for everyone. If you're not used to soy-based alternatives and flavors, you might find the tofu sauce a bit odd. I also got the Macadamia Cashew Chocolate Pie. I liked that this nutty, dark chocolatey dessert wasn't too sweet. Nothing felt too heavy, and I was surprised that it was vegan and gluten-free! This restaurant is almost hidden in Redondo Beach. However, the ambience is very relaxing and romantic after sunset; I went with a friend, but I can also see myself coming here with my boyfriend for a date night. Also, shoutout to our waiter (I forgot his name, but bless his heart) for the great service! I always appreciate nice waiters who are willing to engage in small conversations with the customers. Overall, I would highly recommend this place to vegetarians and vegans, especially because South Bay doesn't provide too many options for these folks. If you're not on a special dietary restriction, I would still recommend trying this place out if you want to eat a healthier meal. One of my favorite vegetarian spots. I've been coming here for about 10 years, and I try to make it out from the Pasadena area every few months. I also eat here on my birthday most years! I usually arrive when it opens, and I've been able to find free parking behind the restaurant at that time. It's rare to find parking there any later in the day, as there are only 3 or 4 spots max, so plan to pay for metered street parking if you're there for lunch or dinner. I always order the 3 or 4 item Temple Bowls. They're SO delicious that I've never had the desire to even consider anything else. Green Temple has a list of yummy ingredients to choose from to make your custom bowl. I usually get baked potatoes, greens or broccoli, crumbled veggie burger or tofu, and guac. They also cover your bowl in an out-of-this-world tofu sauce. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. There are two sizes of bowls to choose from: The junior portion is perfect for lunch, but get the standard portion if you're starving or just have a big appetite in general. There is some seating inside, but the majority of the tables are on the beautiful outdoor patio. The wait staff and chef are all laid back and super friendly. It's almost a spiritual experience eating here lol. Added bonus: Their bathroom is always clean. We came to the Green Temple for a special meal to commemorate my friend's last day in Los Angeles. We sat outside in their cozy patio surrounded by greenery, artisan decor, and a heat lamp...it was perfect. I had the tofu steamers which were delicious and flavorful. Went by for lunch and was able to meet the owners who were super friendly as were their employees. I wanted to try everything but had the salad and split pea soup and it was great. The salad had beets which I've just started to enjoy and the herbal vinaigrette was a awesome. So refreshing the salad was. First visit to the Green Temple yesterday, a Saturday summer afternoon...It was not too busy, we had a reserved table outdoors. The food was delicious, a corn quesadilla and a 4 bowl veggie special. It is a cute and unique place with a natural and spa like vibe, a bit Moroccan.... Our server was lovely and friendly, as was the owner, who checked in on us a few times. The bathroom was spotless and I always appreciate free parking...the lot is tiny, so you might have to use the street parking, which seemed plentiful....All in all, a delightful experience. Walnut Loaf- A rich and hearty loaf prepared with brown rice, mushrooms, onions, walnuts, white cheddar cheese and eggs. Also served with mushroom gravy, mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli. This is very rich and filing but healthy at the same time. In my opinion, this dish is also good for sharing. Chocolate Cake & Strawberry Cheesecake - Both decadent and yummy! Outdoor zen dining area with fountain is reason enough to go to Green Temple. But sometimes there is this hottie with a sexy accent working there which is another good reason! Ok, so the food is pretty awesome too. When my sister said she would take me to sunday brunch on my birthday, which was 10/10/10, I was willing to wake up before 10am, despite the super late night birthday drunkenness the night before, to make the drive over to Redondo Beach and have a yummy meal with my super-awesome sister before the brunch cutoff time at noon. We sat at a table in between the fountain and big blue Buddha head. Our table happened to have a large bouquet of fresh bright pink and yellow flowers which I claimed as my birthday flowers! My sister and I happened to be wearing yellows and pinks in our outfits. (Apparently we got the memo.) It's as if the universe knew it was my birthday and knew we wanted to color coordinate with our surroundings. My sister had the Crêpes with Macadamia Creme and berries. I had the Vegan Tofu Scramble with Mushroom and Potatoes. I ate it with a side of the enchilada sauce. Both dishes were excellent! Yes, I said both. Because I did have a bite of my sister's crêpes and macadamia creme trying to ignore the fact that it's not vegan. I don't regret it...it was YUM! And my sister kinda peer pressured me and I have this habit of doing what my older sister tells me to do ;P Side note: Speaking from experience, don't assume that certain ingredients are vegan. Like the soy cheese. Thank goodness a server told me years ago that their soy cheese contains casein. Which reminds me...the staff is super friendly and super helpful! Very charming little bistro! The décor reminds me of my time in India a few years ago. Pillows with beautiful fabric are on the chairs in the indoor seating and other Himalayan style artifacts are on the wall. For the indoor seating, it is small and intimate. There is also outdoor seating which seemed more popular in the hot, summer afternoon that we lunched. As a new vegetarian convert, this is a great place to go to in the South Bay. The restaurant is located in the Riviera section of Redondo Beach. Parking can be a bit tricky in this area but, we found a spot about a block away. We started out with refreshing summers drinks: Jamaica and hibiscus flower which were delicious. I opted for the 4 bowl which for me was rice, veggie burger, mashed potatoes, and avocado. The veggie burger is a ground veggie protein in a scrumptious tofu sauce. My rice and potatoes also had the tofu sauce over it. Yum! For my fourth item, I was torn between hummus and avocado because the yelp tips mentioned that both were good. I picked wrong because the avocado (more like guacamole) seemed and tasted out of place on my dish. So, I let the bf have the avocado for his dish which was the portebello mushroom burger (ground). He was well pleased with his meal. Food is made after you order so, make sure you're not absolutely starving or order an appetizer. As for service, our waitress was wonderful and knowledgeable. We learned that the restaurant had been in business for 14 years. It is actually interesting that we ran into our waitress at the local park hours later as she was on her break. We both remembered one another and wished her well. We do also wish the Green Temple more years of success. If we are in the Riviera again, we'll be sure to get another healthy meal here. read more
