Came here on a Friday GNO. It was raining so we had to sit inside. I have to say, although small, it's quite cozy and homey. My friends ordered the white lasagna and I got the walnut loaf. They tried mine and loved it. At first glance, it doesnt look like a lot but, our entrees were so filling despite being vegetarian, enough for take home. The mashed potatoes and "gravy" really made me reconsider trying to be a vegan! The wait staff is superfriendly. Even for the men who say they wouldn't try vegan, the food here is excellent. I was in charge of finding a restaurant for a company luncheon. Being sensitive to dietary restrictions, I looked for vegetarian options near the office and came across Green Temple. According to the Yelp reviews, great food and nice atmosphere. Score! The restaurant wasn't hard to find. Not being familiar with Riviera Village, I wasn't prepared for the parking situation. It's only a couple of blocks from the metered lot. As I had seen from their website, the main seating area of the restaurant is a courtyard with a fountain in the middle. It was a very welcome change from the office! We had placed a reservation and they had no problem seating ten of us. My colleagues were attracted to the drinks menu and decided to get Dragon Shots. These appear to be herbal concoctions of some kind. The only feedback that I remember is someone commenting that it reminded him of soy sauce. I had to be different and I went with the Genmaicha tea (green tea with roasted brown rice). A number of us decided that we also had to try the freshly-squeezed vegetable juice. We ordered the carrot, beet, and celery combo, and it was delicious. Our boss ordered nachos for the table. They might have needed a little more salsa, but they did not skimp on the black beans and cheese. Best of all, the nacho chips tasted like homemade. For my entree, I went with the Walnut Loaf. It came with a salad or soup, so I chose the potato soup. It was kind of meager, but pretty good. I appreciated that it was not overseasoned and I added some Himalayan sea salt to it. Tip: ask your server for table seasonings. They also brought us a black pepper mill and later I noticed that they also had Spike. I had never had anything quite like the Walnut Loaf. It was pretty meat-like and very hearty and satisfying. Most of my coworkers chose entrees like the Walnut Loaf and Broccoli Pine Nut Casserole (my backup choice). Only two of them are vegetarian, and some others were a little skeptical about vegetarian restaurants, but everyone raved about the food. They even toasted me for finding Green Temple! I think I chose wisely. Unlike a lot of vegetarian restaurants, Green Temple is the kind of place that's nice enough for a work function or a date. It also has a great menu selection that is sure to please omnivores as well as herbivores. I was pretty excited to hear about Green Temple, being a vegetarian, but let me tell you, this place takes vegetarianism/veganism to the extreme! The ingredients are very fresh and on the raw side of the spectrum, and the menu is large, but I'm sad to say, the taste was lacking. I ordered quesadillas with vegetables and salsa and I felt like there was no flavor and very little seasoning. The tortillas were whole wheat, hearty and low-salt... healthy yes, but oh-so-bland. I will say, the ambiance is quite lovely with a quiet outdoor courtyard in the back, complete with a fountain and koi fish swimming peacefully in green tinged water. Reserving this spot to share with my vegetarian friends, I ended up coming here on Valentine's sharing with the Man. We came in during lunch time. It wasn't too busy, but most of the tables were filled. We tried our luck without reservations and was granted a nice table for two next to the fountain with koi fishes. There was only one server taking orders, so we waited a good while before she came to us. But she is the sweetest, soft-spoken gal, you just could not get fussy about the wait. We ordered: Green juice to share: Refreshing!! Good strong hint of ginger, you know it's a healthy drink. Avocado Melt w/ cheddar cheese served with a side of garden mix vegetables topped with organic tofu sauce. The Man enjoyed it very much. The side of mix veg comes warm. The 4 Temple Bowl: garden mix, Organic brown rice, baked tofu, and hummus, over their amazing tofu sauce. I was surprised at how delicious this meal was. Unfortunately we just spent $68 on 4 dishes that were honestly terrible. My wife & I have liked eating here before. The enchiladas were so bland.. the tofu steamer & savory wrap sauce was rich & to much! So how do you just put big ass chunks of vegetables in the wraps??!! These meals are so basic & charging that amount is a complete rip! When you can make the same exact meals at home it's definitely a rip! We honestly feel sick from the sauce!! I'm by no means a vegetarian (maybe I should be), but this place rocked. Decided to venture west from Torrance today in search of something new. I parked on Avenue I and stumbled into the restaurant. It is slightly hidden on that side, the main entrance is on the Catalina side. There is a quaint zen garden that composes most of the restaurant. I had a nice time just sitting there looking at the Buddhist statues and contemplating the meaning of life. There is a book store of some sort on one side, I didn't go inside but it looked cool. A nice gentleman came up to my table and poured me some water. I asked about the salads and he recommended the Sproutada so I went with it. Very unique salad, don't think I had anything like it before. Came with organic brown rice and black beans on top of a baked corn tortilla. And on top of that was lettuce, shredded carrots, sprouted beans, sprouts, tomato, and a chunky salsa. Tahini dressing on the side. It all came together perfectly. There was the warm soft texture of the beans and rice on the bottom balanced by the refreshing crunch of vegetables on the top. There was a bit of salt from the beans and some spice and bitterness from the tahini. Everything was super fresh too. Cool restaurant in a nice location. Salad was 16 bucks and change after tax. Slightly pricey but it was a big portion and quality ingredients. Good value. read more

I thought it was ok as it was not that flavorful and it would've been just as good with the ingredients separated. There was a tofu-like sauce to dip the casserole and cooked veggies which was good. 2. Walnut Loaf- This was REALLY GOOD. It was soft and I really liked the gravy. The mashed potatoes were unique as they seemed glutinous which gave it a different texture, but didn't taste fatty. 3. Vegetable Quesadilla Appetizer- The soy? cheese that held the vegetables together was good. The vegetables themselves were flavorful and fresh. Ambiance- The colorful decor seemed Asian influenced. I have tried their Tofu Sreamers ($13), Green Steamers ($13), and White Lasagna ($13), and the ingredients in Green Steamers seem to pair best with their special sauce. The service was excellent as both waiter/waitress did visit our table time and again during our meal. The one of the waiter (American) does speak very fluent Japanese to us, but I am not sure if all Americans who are vegetarians are bi-lingual. Only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that price is a bit on the high side as those who have been cooking at home may feel that they can duplicate some entrees at home with much less cost; however, it may be consider a reasonable since the location is near the beach (Essentially, how you will feel may depend on your own perspective.). We don't come here nearly enough. Such a delicious spot, we love bringing guests here who are health-minded because I never leave here with a heavy overly full bloated feeling. The sproutada is always my go-to (vegan cheese, no tortilla, and with a side of tofu sauce in addition to the tahini dressing) and it's amazingly filling bursting full of flavor. Sprouts, tomatoes, micro greens, black beans, brown rice, cheese of choice (daya mozzarella, white cheddar, or almond cheese). With a side of housemade walnut bread drizzled with honey, yummo! A close second favorite is the Garden Quesadilla made with sprouted tortillas, avocado, white cheddar, tomatoes, lettuce, red onion (on request) and a side of salsa. It's huge and filing and fracking delicious! Their large selection of Fresh juices are so delicious. Their sparkling lemonade is a fave of our four year old. This restaurant knows its audience and crafts some bangin food. After eating go for a nice walk around the village with views of the ocean from the esplanade! Green Temple offers up a menu with plenty of options to satiate my dairy-free cravings. Additionally, they're very local-friendly and most things are made in house (even the bread). So if you're craving homemade food with lots of flavor and vegetables, this might just be your spot. I especially love that you can sub any cheese with their almond cheese option (they also have daiya, but I am not a daiya fan). However, the best part is really the atmosphere. It has a relaxed, open, patio-like feel (with heaters for those chilly days/nights) with greenery here and there. The staff is friendly and the customers are clearly enjoying the positive vibes. To sum up, the good: -Atmosphere! Chill, peaceful, and friendly -Food! Good, homemade food -Vegan-friendly! -DESSERTS. Favorite restaurant of all time. The food is so fresh and delicious. The staff starts to know you by name and they are always so sweet. I am addicted to the tofu sauce so I buy it on the side all the time. My favorite things to order: customized bowl (always get veggies and veggie burger crumble), savory wrap, the blue plate, and the farmers market salad. I didn't dine in so I can't speak on the actual restaurant, however, the food was delish! I had the vegan eggplant lasagna which was ON POINT! They have amazing food but after the way I was treated on the phone it killed the experience. What used to order from here all the time through Covid and even now and the gentleman on the phone was rude and wouldn't add eggs to my sandwich or even Protein for that matter. He said you can't add anything to sandwiches you have to get them as they come. Which is so weird because that's never happened before and I've been able to add things and take things out of my sandwiches. I also asked if I could add eggs for protein to the sandwich he told me that they don't cook eggs in the kitchen but then I let him know that there's eggs on the menu and he stated that they only cook what they need in the morning and they don't cook throughout the day. So what does that mean that the foods not being cooked fresh? Anyways I've been in the industry for 20 years this is the worst service I've ever had at any restaurant would really love to eat the food here but apparently we don't have options anymore. It has been on my Yelp for quite some time and I finally was able to try it along with my Mom and Sister. They aren't too big on vegan/vegetarian places, but this place is just wonderful. Not to mention, they have a pretty boutique next door with incense, candles, perfume, books, and potted plants. I ordered the Yukon Gold (vegan), my mom tried the Special Lasagna, my sister ordered the Blue Plate (not pictured), and for desert we had the Peanut Butter Chocolate Pie (vegan), and a strawberry cheesecake (GF). I highly recommend the Yukon Gold. It comes with veggies, tofu sauce, and a perfectly boiled Yukon potato. I don't think you will regret it.
