Back in May, I knew our very old A/C condenser was dead so I wanted to replace it before it became really uncomfortable. Over the years, I've dealt with many of the larger HVAC companies in Chicago and, quite honestly, I was not super thrilled with any of them. I opted to go with Julian at Green Works for the new condenser and coil based on many positive Yelp reviews. I also had already met with Green Works once before to service our furnace last fall and found them to be very knowledgeable, efficient and easy to work with. Julian's price was reasonable, especially given the fact that this was not the easiest installation (the condenser is on the roof). Everything went smoothly and the new A/C was up and running by midafternoon. For once my timing was right because it was 90 a few days later and stayed that way. Great Service, Reliable and always comes through! I have been using Julian and Green Works for a few years now. Cannot say enough good things. I own a 4 unit building, with 4 central heat/air units. Julian and his crew are always there when we need them, fast, reliable, does an excellent job at a more than fair price. On one unit, there was a manufacturer issue with the control board, changing voltage and other things, he did the research and got it resolved. Wanted to be sure that the business was a licensed HVAC contractor and that the technician that would be working on my unit was certified by a professional agency, and I was told this company "didn't have time" for these questions. Seems likely it would have taken as much time to tell me about the license and the certification if they had them, as it did for them to explain to me that they don't have time for the questions. read more

One of my tenants called me after 3 am to let me know that water was spilling onto the floor from the central air unit area. I was able to shut off water to the building at the time and would have to call on a HVAC company to repair later on. After searching some companies I decided to let Green Works, LLC come by to see what the problem was. Giani came by 2 hours earlier than what his ETA was and he was able to see that the problem was that the water heater was corroded which caused water to escape. He would have to replace the old water heater but in preparation for the replacement he was able to drain the water from the old water heater (which involved attaching a hose to the water heater tank to empty the water inside). Giani told me that he would be able to install the new water heater tank with a water tray the next day. He showed up the next day early and was able to remove the old water heater tank and replace with the new water heater tank. The tank works excellent and it came with a warranty. Giani is very professional and the prices for the products and his work are very reasonable. I will most definitely contact him in the future if I have any HVAC issues. read more

Julian came last week to hook up my furnace's humidifier, which the installer had botched. He told me how long it would take and gave me an estimate. Because my ductwork was unusually large, he couldn't use the kind of air switch he had planned to use, and had to use a diiferent type of switch. It took twice as long as he thought it would, but he charged me what he said he would, and it works great. No run-around, no stories, no surprise charges, no nonsense. read more

We had a great experience with Julian! He came out for a regular maintenance check for our old furnace that had been acting up. Thank goodness we had Julian out when we did because the heat exchange had gone bad and we needed to replace it. He was going to be able to do it next day, but because of a cancellation was able to come out later that day and install the new furnace. With a six week old at home, we were so relieved. My story..... Called first company , they came looked around and gave me an appraisal of 3300$. Called a second company, same story same quote. Called a third , which was Julian. At first he came he did his testing and sort of agreed with the first two estimates. Here is were the story gets interesting...... During the final part of his testing something started bothering him , something wasn't right. Maybe the previous two company had the diagnose wrong. For the next couple of days I watched Julian battling with my AC , disassembling it twice and putting it back together, refusing to give in and following his instinct that it was not as bad as it seemed. Long story short. He was write. I saved over 2300$ Julian is honest, extremely polite and his work was really clean. He was up to date with latest technology and had no problem explaining to me all his fancy electronic equipment. I like knowing who to call when there is a problem with something in my condo, I wish that all tradespeople were as great to work with as Green Works HVAC. I turned on the a/c during the one hot group of days we had earlier this month and it never actually made the house cooler. I put off dealing with it because we've been busy, but I finally got around to calling and Julian at Green Works came out this morning to take a look. The first problem was that the circuit breaker was turned off. He only laughed with me, not at me, and that discovery did not change his attitude. He added refrigerant to the a/c unit, did his inspection/cleaning things, charged me a fair price that was communicated clearly, and left me happy to write him a check. He clearly communicated that he was not available, call someone else and move on. You can't give someone a bad review for being unavailable. This is going back a year or so, but Julian was so amazing I'm writing this now My furnace went out in the middle of winter. I called Julian and he had a busy schedule but came over within a couple hours on a Sunday. He diagnosed the problem right away; needed some rotating circular blower part. Unfortunately Sunday, nothing was open. I'm sure I'm not his only client but he came very first thing Monday to install it. Very reasonable pricing as well. I also needed a new igniter and he told me if that wasn't the (another) problem, he would come back for free. Our furnace went out over night last evening. We called Green Works in the morning and spoke with Julian to set up a time for a service appointment. He was able to come out that morning and immediately identified the problem (I this made somewhat easy for him as my lack of changing the filter led to it being sucked into the motor). Took other Yelpers reviews here after getting an astronomical quote from another highly received Yelp HVAC company. Julian was prompt in getting to my rental property to assess the problem, showed up on time, and then came back the next week (also on time) to finish the job. He got the heat working in my tenant's basement, at about 1/3 less than the other company quoted. He did the job in a single day (that the other company said would take two workers a full 8 hour day) and I'm very pleased with his professionalism, price, and workmanship. My condo requires a certificate of insurance to inspect the AC on the roof, and he was able to provide that within 48 hours. During his visit, he was courteous and wore shoe covers. Great service. My furnace's igniter broke and He came out within 30 min. He found a used igniter and replaced it so that I can have heat (if it breaks this year he will just charge me the difference from a new one) Courteous and knowledgable. Julian not only did not fix the problem with our air conditioning unit, but charged us $422.95 for about two hours of labor plus a service call, without replacing or testing any mechanical parts of the unit. He said the air conditioner was freezing up because it needed a cleaning and adjustment of Freon levels, and he drained about 3 inches of water that accumulated in the pan behind the filter. When the unit turned back on, he left without giving us an itemized receipt, which I had to request after the fact. When the unit broke down again after about two days of operation, we decided we needed a second opinion and called Guardian Heating and Cooling. They tested the evaporator pump and saw that it was broken and the lines were plugged and needed replacement. That was the reason the water had accumulated, but Julian never suggested any of this. So, bottom line, we are now starting over with Guardian, and they are charging $427 total to replace the pump, drainage lines and all labor. So, we are now paying double due to Julian's inability to properly diagnose and fix the problem with the unit. read more

I'm having some serious trouble with my central air conditioning. In fact, it's not working at all! I did some research on Yelp and found Julian at the top of the list. Julian was able to come out the next morning. He was on-time, thoughtful, and professional. Unfortunately, Julian had bad news for me. My central air is 15 years old, uses older, less environmentally friendly coolant, and likely has a large leak that would be cost-prohibitive to fix. He could have recharged the unit for several hundred dollars though was clear that he wasn't sure how long it would last. Ouch! I struggled with the news - particularly given that this was a central unit and costs several thousand dollars to replace. Even though he was only the messenger of the news, the cost of a new unit is so high and it was a hard pill to swallow. I gave Julian 5 stars because he was sensitive to the situation, took time to explore alternatives - he suggested I look at the free-standing portable units as a short-term solution, and he went the extra mile to take the time and understand my perspective. read more
