The good part: They were quick to get back to me and one of the lowest charges for estimates. The bad part: I live in a condo w baseboard heat. Even though my thermostat was set it kept getting colder and colder in my place. I changed the battery but still no luck. They sent someone out. He asked me about my thermostat and I explained what I had done. He checked it out and agreed. Here's where things started getting bad. He called the office because he either didn't know what to do or needed permission. During the phone call he asked me if I had access to the boiler room and I said yes. After a few more minutes we went down to the boiler room. He kept asking me where the valve was. I didn't know. He looked around and told me what there usually was. I said I know nothing about it. He called the office again. This time they talked for at least over 5 minutes because he had no idea what to do. We decided to go back upstairs and look at the baseboard. I asked him if the valve could be in the baseboard and he said no, it's never in the baseboard. I expressed my skepticism with his capabilities, considering he'd been at my place for about 15 minutes and had already had to make two phone calls. He reiterated the valve should be in the boiler room. On the way up I suggested I should go to my neighbor to see if he knew anything. We got upstairs and I got my neighbor. He said the valve was located in the baseboard, which is what I had suggested but the worker said no. The neighbor showed the worker where it was. The worker called the office yet again. Apparently someone told him to take a picture, which he did. He then told me his boss told him it would be $675 because it's the solenoid (sp?) Valve. I declined and paid my $88 Four basically having my neighbor come over because a couple weeks later I called another company who came out and actually used tools and tested lots of things. The problem was a short in the circuit board of my thermostat, which they fixed that same day for much less than the estimate from Greenworks read more

If you are reading this you are likely in the business for HVAC services, see below for my complete experience, but in short, an outstanding company with wonderful employees, fair and honest pricing and without a doubt the best HVAC company I have ever used. Green Works will take care of you and deserves your business. I have been using Green Work's for my furnace for the past 2 years for routine maintenance after moving to Chicago in mid-2013 and have had the most prompt service and fair pricing of any HVAC company I have ever used; however the reason for my review now is that on a Friday evening in the winter I came home and noticed a foul smell coming from our furnace exhaust and called Julian about it. He not only took my call at ~8pm on a Friday, he offered to come out the following morning at 8am to take a look. He was able to astutely diagnose the problem, which was that the furnace heat exchanger was malfunctioning, unsafe, leaking gas, and the unit needed to be replaced and could no longer be used. He communicated all of this to me in a way that I understood and offered options for furnace replacement that same day. Now this was a Saturday morning and an unexpected service call for his company. However rather than rescheduling a time to replace the unit, Julian was able to find us a new unit, with a top of the line carrier (and maximum energy efficiency), install it that day at a most fair price. Julian took his entire day at my house installing that furnace, hauling away the old one and didn't leave to go home until 10pm, all so that we could restore heat that night, which in my estimation is going above and beyond anything I would have expected. Having your furnace break in the middle of winter is never something you want to experience, or pay for, but I feel really good knowing that the experience I had, and the money I spent, went to such a fair and deserving company. This is the first condo I've lived in where I own my own a/c and heating units... two things I know nothing about. I thought all I had to do was change the filter. Until my brother told me that I need to have them serviced every year. (This can let you know you have a problem before the a/c stops working when it's 90 degrees outside.) Since I've lived here three years, I was long overdue. So I turned to Yelp for a recommendation. Green Works seemed to have the best reviews. I messaged them through Yelp (very convenient), and Julian got back to me in a couple of hours. Since I was going to be out of town, we set up an appointment for a week later. Julian's associate Mario arrived on time and checked out my system thoroughly. He reported that everything was working fine. Since my units are nearing the end of their life cycle, Mario explained what to watch out for that would indicate they might be wearing out. Mario was courteous and professional. He even took the time to show me how to operate the humidifier that's built into my furnace. (I have a humidifier in my furnace... DUH?) Now, I can network computers, upgrade memory and even get rid of really nasty malware... but I was totally clueless that the plastic box attached to my vent is a humidifier. Nice to know. Plain and simple, these guys are the best. AC unit stopped working so we had Four Seasons come out to take a look (they installed the furnace a year prior). They confirmed that our AC unit was shot and needed to be replaced; Quoted us at around $4,500 plus $900 for a crane to lift the unit to the roof and were on their way. Time to call around for a second or third opinion. We called Green Works to get an estimate - they came out and looked at the unit. After a little investigation, they were able to jump the AC and realized it needed to be re-wired. Our wiring was shot. They re-wired the unit and got it back up and running, provided a ton of info and kept me updated throughout the process of fixing. The charge was nominal compared to what I had originally been quoted and I couldn't be more relieved. Highly recommended! read more

I would have perhaps given 4.5 stars because it was a little bit difficult to get hold of them -- but then again, they were much easier to get hold of then some of the other companies I tried. So: 5 stars for you, Glenn Coco! When the heat kicked on in my new condo, sh*t sounded like a prop plane. I've never had central air before but it occurred to me that this probably wasn't right (when you have to turn the volume for Game of Thrones UP, you know something is amiss with noise levels). Also, the inspector had already found that the humidifier was shoddily wired. So Mario came out and he was great. When he didn't have a part needed to fix the shoddy original installation, he came back at a time convenient to me. I appreciated his patience with my questions -- many of which were along the lines of "how do you work a thermostat?" And I really appreciate my new humidifier, which is not black with mold like the last one (ew ew ew). Thusly: I plan to work with Greenworks in the future for all my working heating and cooling needs. read more

Awesome, simply awesome. Just to keep it short and simple (or atleast I'll try) - our AC Unit broke down a couple of weeks back. I called several places and none of them seemed to want to provide their service because they "did not have a 30+ feet ladder" and I already had two guys scheduled to come out but backed off on the day of the appointment because of the ladder issue. Anyways - I call Green Works and speak with Julian. I explained my situation and to my surprise he says "I can come in today, what time works for you?" and sure enough, he comes to our townhouse within the next 1 1/2 hour with a ladder that extends well above 50 feet and his partner (Green Works is only operated by and comprised of two people, Julian and Mario). Julian worked on our unit for a good hour (checked the furnace, evaporator, motor, went up the roof and replaced the condensor - I'm not so sure what it was but it was broken). Mario replaced our Thermostat and took his time to stay longer and go through EVERY SINGLE ASPECT of the AC unit, I mean, EVERY SINGLE piece - this was beyond amazing and especially because he was done for the day with his work and just came to help Julian with the ladder. These guys are awesome, friendly, personable, really enjoy and know their craft - they really took their time and not once did I feel like they rushed. They answered every little question I had. The price was very good and definitely competitive. They definitely earned my trust, respect, and also my business. I would reccommend Julian and Mario - Green Works LLC - to any and all. This review is long over due. I worked with Julian last year to replace my AC condenser unit and I did not give him an easy time. My AC had crapped out right before I was heading out of town and I really did not want to leave my my roommate without AC for the whole weekend in the middle of July. Julian was very fast about coming out to inspect my unit and agreed to replace the unit asap even though I would not be at my place to let him in. Unfortunately, when I texted him my rommate's number, my phone's autocorrect changed the number and he was not able to get in contact with my roommate to let him in. I was all the way in Sonoma and was not getting any reception. For a few hours, Julian continuously tried to get a hold of me, but by the time I finally got back to him he had to leave for another job. But despite me wasting several hours of his time, Julian agreed to come back to my place later that day to replace my unit even though he though he would be working until late Friday evening (I think it was almost 9pm when they finished). So even though I kind of screwed them over, Greenworks still performed a quick and professional AC unit replacement for me. They have replaced our furnace, performed routine service checks, and addressed issues with our AC unit when it stopped working (which conveniently seems to happen on the hottest days of the year). Seconds later a friend texted me and recommended him since he used him a couple weeks prior when his a/c went kaput. Done and done. Julian went out of his way to get me in sooner vs. later, even though I just needed a cleaning/tune-up, and my appointment landed on what was supposed to be the hottest day of the year. A small part of me was expecting him to call and reschedule because I was sure he'd be busy, but no. He arrived right on time and with a smile. I live in Rogers Park and when I was looking for furnace repair, was so happy to see a company located here. Julian has been out twice now over two years, both ending up being minor issues. Julian was prompt, professional and knowledgeable. The first time my heat went out at 6pm on a Sunday during -15 degree weather, thanks to snow/ice buildup on our building's vent caps. Okay, my AC finally conked out. The compressor, ie - the "soul" of any AC unit blew to be exact. Naturally, this coincided with 90 + degree temps. I was faced with the age old conundrum: replace the compressor or get a whole new deal? I ended up deciding on the latter.Did some sweaty research (and Yelpin'), and who emerged from the mist of slick salesmen and big name dealers? Why, Julian from Green Works. He's basically a one-man shop. He picked up the phone on the second ring and talked me through options and answered questions for 20 minutes. Two days later, I had me a glorious new AC set up. He even moved the unit to a place where it could actually "breathe" and had to add an extra 25 feet of electrical and coolant lines to make it so. Yeah, it cost me for that extra work. But the initial bid was $600 less than another big namer. (who conspicuously appears in one of my reviews. I gotta get rid of that.) Bottom line: Julian is my HVAC guy. I have a very underpowered furnace that supplies heat to a 5 floor, 2800 sq ft SFH. One day, the airflow got so bad that my basement was 40 degrees. This continued for a couple more days before I called Green Works. In my defense, I thought the windows had become the problem. Anywho, it wasn't an emergency, but GW came out the same day. They had my furnace fixed in no time, and they explained every element of what they were doing in normal English. I'm pretty handy, but I don't know anything about a furnace outside of changing filters. They also gave me a recommendation on better ways to handle my very poorly laid out home from an HVAC standpoint. I'm currently working with them on having some ductless systems installed to give my furnace a much needed respite. It's so nice to have a great go-to for HVAC in the city. read more

Both times we have needed to call Green Works, once for A/C issues, once for furnace issues, they have been absolutely fantastic! Julian is absolutely great. During the crazy polar vortex, when it was -20 degrees, our furnace went out! He was at our house in less than an hour, and had the part we needed and it was installed, all in under less than 3 hours. And when our A/C was leaking Freon, another company told us we needed a new A/C unit- Julian came and looked at it, and patched the leak, for less than $100. His opinion was to replace rather than repair - he gave a reasonable explanation but since the unit is only 7 years old and we really didn't know Green Works well, we got a 2nd opinion who said the exact same thing. We had Julian come back to install a new unit - everything went smoothly, all working quite perfectly and his quote was competitive and reasonable. When our water heater went out, Julian and his team were there the next day to install a new one (they did everything, including hauling away the old one and buying the new one) and the price for installation, etc was better than other companies. Julian is great! It's funny...I'm almost happy that my heat went out as I found a great service provider in the neighborhood because of it. Initial Contact: I requested quotes from multiple Vendors and Green Works contacted my right away. Quote: we set up a time to have someone come over to review the HVAC and water heater. They were on time and did a thorough job. The next day a quote was sent via email. We discussed the work and after deciding what to do now and put off later, I got a final quote. Scheduling: no issues here. From first contact to installation was about a week. They even came by after 5pm to accommodate our work schedule. They were the only vendor to offer this without added expense. Work Done: they showed up on time and with the water heater I'd specified. I had to run to Home Depot to grab a pan but they waited while I did this and didn't charge extra for waiting. The swap out and installation was quick and exceptionally well done. They had all the right tools and even rectified the shotty work the previous owners had settled for when installing the previous system. Before leaving they made sure everything was working. They laid tarps to protect the carpet cleaned up afterwards. Very professional all round. Cost: Green Works was by far the most reasonable quote we received. The big box stores all came back $500-$700 more. Others would give a quote but then say it could cost more depending on time and material needed. The final bill from Green Works was exactly what they had quoted. I would recommend Green Works to anyone looking for great service. read more
