You stand inline, alight with the possibilities that you will be able to post to your blog with a steaming hot, frothed to perfection, balanced, refined, latte. The most fundamental of coffee shop offerings. You pay the fee, little steep for a latte you think, but no bother, mom, and dad have this one. You are handed the latte, it feels warm -it feels too warm- Oh well, nothings perfect you think. So you wait, you wait and you think. You wait and you think and you hope. When your patience has expended itself, and the latte has come down from entirely too hot, you blow, and you sip, and with that sip, all of your hope. all of your beliefs all of the DC's oppression falls upon your shoulders and crushes your dreams. I admit that I work in the building that houses the E-Street Greenberry's which is convenient, but I'm a loyal 5-star customer, fussy about my coffee (and most likely many other things). I have been to Greenberry's about 50% of my workdays for a supremo-2-shot decaf latte/breakfast or lunch meal and am sad not to come every single day. I love the coffee and love the food, and love the atmosphere, staff and manager. I love the people that have worked there for ages the most. Every now and then I am served by a new counter-person that is a little too 'smart' but seeing that same person nurtured into a super-capable barista with great manners is a pleasure for an older woman. I will keep coming, and so glad they are open today while most government workers are on furlough and the streets are empty and many shops closed. 5 stars/5 hearts. read more

The company contacted me and that goes a long way. As I was picking up a lunch time snack I was Unable to return to the store. Perhaps with my disappointing muffin in hand they could've figured out what went wrong and made it right. This is the best coffee shop in the area, in my opinion. They open at 6:30 am during the week, which is huge for those of us that have to be at work at 7. They are consistently friendly, which is also not common at 6:30 am. The coffee is very good - not as amazing as ME Swing's but much better than Starbucks or Juan Valdez. They have a lot of nice balanced flavored lattes as well as French press and non-coffee drinks. I wish their baked goods were better because that would put them over the top but they're pretty average. However, they have good breakfast burritos and really good English muffin breakfast sandwiches. Also offer some prepackaged hummus-and-veggie type snacks. Atmosphere is super clean and pleasant with nice dark woods and black and white photos. So happy to have found this place. read more

Just went here in desperate need of caffeine and excited to try a new coffee spot, unfortunately I am not impressed. Although this place looks great to settle down at for a day of work of casual meeting, their cappuccino was less than impressive and this is what I am basing my review on. I ordered a tall cappuccino, no special requests and not during rush hour. I should have known something was wrong when on my walk back to the office I had to continually switch hands because the cup with heat sleeve was still extremely hot. Sure enough once I settled down at my desk and took my first sip the drink tasted very scorched and bitter. I should mention that I am a espresso drink snob so I definitely take note of the foam and this too did not impress me. Good foam taste like a milkshake to me, this tasted more like burnt milk. Only positive to my first experience is that the espresso used is not weak and definitely help my caffeine slump. I probably will try Greenberry again as it is convenient and looks to have great food options for breakfast & lunch. I am also realistic and know this could have been just one bad drink. Definitely will update my review should I have a different experience but for now I will definitely be making the longer walk to better coffee options. read more

Once upon a time, I was on a mission to cover the sights and museums within the trifecta of the US Capitol, Lincoln Memorial and Jefferson Memorial... in a day. Oh, and also the White House. The takeaway - it's not possible (by foot). Anywho, sometime in the afternoon during said mission, the hot and humid DC weather prompted for the need of a chilled beverage. As I winded my way down from the White House back towards the National Mall, Greenberry seemed like the perfect stop. The mocha mint java shake is a refreshing thing. It's an ice-blended coffee drink in the flavor of chocolate with hints of mint. There's actual chocolate shavings dispersed through the drink, which is notably different from similar offerings at other places. The barista sure took his sweet time preparing the drink, though. He probably cleared 3-4 drinks while preparing my own. On a weekday afternoon, about half the seating area was occupied - one group of tourists and the rest likely hardworking individuals from nearby offices (inferred since there's no free parking in the area). The establishment is spacious and well-lit, taking on a typical coffee-house vibe. read more

Stopped in this morning, I work nearby. The staff is still just as rude and unprofessional as I remember. Always with an attitude especially if you don't tip them. The atmosphere is open and clean but the coffee was nothing special. I had a latte and honestly I expect more of a coffee place with reviews like this. I've had better from Starbucks. The kid ringing me up was pretty uninterested and flippant. He didn't even ask me if I wanted a receipt and walked away afterward without saying anything so he could go back to eating. I had to call him back over afterward to ensure I had actually paid because my order hadn't closed out on the screen. Went to Greenberry's today with my coworker for lunch. We both had terrible experiences. It started off wrong from the order. My coworker ordered iced tea but got iced coffee instead. Not wanting to make a big deal she said it was ok. We both ordered sandwiches, she got a BLT and I got the cucumber and ham sandwich. My coworker got her BLT after around ten minutes. She opened up her sandwich and there was no mayonnaise on it. She went and asked for some and they gave her some packets. After waiting for 15 minutes and seeing that people after me we're getting their food, I went and checked. Realizing they had forgotten my order they quickly threw something together. I open my sandwich up and there are no condiments on my sandwich either despite being listed as coming with cream cheese spread. I go and ask for mayonnaise as well. I pick up one side of my sandwich and it feels like they forgot the bottom piece of bread. I have attached a pic of the piece of bread that they gave me on one half. Ridiculous. I don't know how they thought that was acceptable. I understand being busy but I paid close to $9 for that sandwich. They even ask you for a tip when you check out with a credit card. I expect at least a certain level of service. No point in complaining either, all the employees were busy and we could not find a manager. I've been there before and I hate to not go back because of one bad experience but this was completely disappointing. read more

HELLO GREENBERRY'S!!! GOODBYE STARBUCKS!! While on my way to Starbucks for my usual cup of coffee I passed the new Greenberry's Coffee & Tea Shop @ 1805 E Street NW and decided to give it a try. I HAVE FOUND MY NEW FAVORITE COFFEE SHOP. The staff were courteous and pleasant. The ambiance was charming and comfortable (a great place to study or read the newspaper). The coffee was fabulous. It was mellow and lacks the acidity and over-roasted taste I often find at Starbucks. They had a variety of free pastry samples and, of course, with my sweet tooth I had to try them all. They were deliciously moist and freshly baked on the premises this morning....which is clearly a nice departure from the standard coffee shop fare that is usually brought in from who knows where. You must give it a try. I promise that you won't be disappointed and will want to come over to the other side. read more

This café is a block away from my Student Dorm and I come here several times a week with friends to have a chat, or sit and study - the staff is always very friendly and recognize you - how often does that happen at Starbucks? This is a great chill coffee place. I love coming here in the middle of the day to get away from work. The staff is so wonderful. Jorge especially will take time to make sure your experience is special. My favorite item is the chocolate covered biscotti. It is so fresh, and is the best biscotti I've ever had. Additional nice touches include wooden tables, free wifi, and it isn't super crowded. The view of E street is also quite nice. I mentioned this place to my coworkers, and they already want to go back with me tomorrow. So much better than the normal Starbucks. read more

Great place to grab coffee and it's on my way to work, it is literally across the street from my office. Staff has always been awesome accept for today. One of the staff was very rude, tried to speak over me and was very disrespectful. I simply was asking the price of my iced coffee just because I was curious and it seemed a little high. Again, very disrespectful speaking loudly to try and embarrass me for asking questions. This dude needs to chill. Next time he wants to speak to me or anyone in that fashion, I recommend he think twice. Hopefully Green Berry's management will see this post and have a little chat with their employee. This little coffee shop is amazing. I was in a group of 15 people and we stopped here. We ordered, and had our food in under 10 minutes. The staff was incredibly nice. On top of this, the food was delicious and very healthy! Quality ingredients! I would absolutely go here over Starbucks. Higher quality ingredients and much quicker service. There's always seating and the inside is cozy, especially if you're meeting others. I love, love, love their sandwiches. I am always hesitant to order breakfast sandwiches on an english muffin because the english muffins are so unexciting and lacking in flavor to me. Well, that phobia is gone with their sandwiches! I am so addicted to the English muffin that I am ordering all their sandwiches now. I especially love that the eggs are always fresh and the tomatoes actually have real flavor. My hips and belly are cringing from the thought of more crunches and lunges to accommodate my addiction, but they'll adapt. The food is great and they always aim to please their customers. The owner has been working in the store every time I have come in - it goes a long way to see someone that dedicated to their business! I really like Greenberry's, especially given the other options in the area. The prices are reasonable, especially for food. The coffee is delicious and certainly of quality. You should try the nitrogen-infused coffee here if you haven't already. The staff seems pretty friendly. The only downsides I've come across thus far are the hours and the way food is served. I once tried to go here on a weekend, and it was closed. The food is set out on a little counter, and they call out what the order is. The customer is expected to get their food from the counter. This can be really confusing, especially when there is line of people waiting for food. I didn't want to grab someone else's sandwich and wasn't sure what they ordered. Maybe it would work better if they called out the customers' names and order instead? read more

I've been a loyal regular (sometimes going twice per day) at Greenberry's for a year and today changed my mind. Now granted, there was a massive clusterfuck of a metro fire this morning, and Greenberry's line was out the door, so perhaps they received a long line of unhappy, moody metro victims -- I get it -- but this isn't an excuse for bad service or an attitude. I ordered a cold nitro latte. Someone gave me hot coffee instead. I told them that this wasn't a cold nitro latte and 3 -- count them -- 3 different people felt it their duty to give me an attitude about how their refrigerator was broken, like asking for the cold drink I ordered was unreasonable. On top of that, 2 staff members started asking who made the drink, and the guy who made the drink comes up to the counter and is upset with me! This is all after I had already given them a 20% tip as well. I'm moving on from Greenberry's unless I hear from the owner about how this will be resolved. How is this appropriate? Customer service needs to be improved. read more
