We were here for dinner at 7PM on a Friday night, which is apparently the one time that no one comes here. Since this restaurant is in an office building, it looks like it's pretty popular with the happy hour crowd (which ends at 7PM). Someone also told me this place turns into a club at night, so I suppose it's also popular after 10PM. But when we arrived at 7PM, I only saw one or two other occupied tables. The menu itself is pretty eclectic - it features both Mediterranean and Indian food, likely a reflection of the chef who is Pakistani but grew up in Italy. The prices are on the higher end ($20ish before tax/tip) unless you're planning to order a sandwich or pizza ($15ish before tax/tip). I only tasted the fish sandwich I ordered, and it was pretty good. It was a patty made of mixed cod and salmon. I assume it was frozen, but I still enjoyed it, especially on a brioche bun and with fries, as I was craving carbs that evening. I would expect to get something a bit more exceptional for the price. (I ended up paying about $20 after the mandatory 20% tip for our large group and Vienna's high meal tax.) read more

I love Greenhouse Bistro. I wasn't sure what to expect, and my dining experience blew me away. The service is excellent. My server, Laura, assisted with a wine selection and it was perfect! The manager, B, made the experience fantastic! The other staff were also sure to come over to check if anything was needed. Their restaurant is beautiful but their outside patio is the star of the show it was stunning!!!! The inside is super beautiful. They have a lounge for Hookah during the day. The food.... I came here to get some drinks at the bar. This place was a perfect place to lounge and drink. They have a huge bar in the middle of the restaurant and I really liked how they had fresh herbs growing on the side of their walls. We ended up getting hungry and got some mussels because it smelled so good from the table near by us. The mussels were so flavorful and it was a huge serving. I will never go to that place again, my advice don't go. Yesterday I was with a group of friends celebrating a birthday and it was a disaster. Not only for our group but many others. They charge people to reserve tables then let tons of people in who didn't reserve until they are in full capacity. Then they prevent the people who actually reserved a table from entering claiming they have full capacity and for fire regulations. So there is no point in making reservations, because they apparently aren't good in counting and basic math, and you will waste your time and money. I even heard people who are planning to sue for being scammed. read more

The 1 star is primarily rating Saturday night when the restaurant turns into a club with a DJ. I went this past Saturday with my partner and some friends for the first time. While I loved the music (it was international night, and I was pleasantly surprised that some songs came on that I heard in the clubs when I lived in South Korea back in 2010 - a nice nostalgia trip), my main complaint is the volume of the music. I have been to many clubs in my adult life, and I've never had music blaring so awfully loud. I'm not talking about "I'm old and I don't like it." I'm talking about "doing some real physical damage" kind of loud. Not only that, but whoever is in charge of the sound system (whether that's the DJ or someone else) actually kept making it LOUDER as the night went on! No amount of shouting was enough for those of us inside to hear each other. Our smart watches repeatedly kept warning us as the decibel level kept going higher: first over 80, then over 90, then over 100. To give you a basis of comparison, upper 70s decibels is already annoyingly loud for some people; 110 decibels is where people on average are at their pain threshold; and 150 decibels leads to eardrum rupture. I honestly wonder how much louder it was going to get had we stayed for another couple of hours. Here is why this is particularly upsetting to me: My partner had some minor hearing damage from his military career. He went to Greenhouse with me and after 2 hours of this blaring music he suffered significant damage to his hearing that 4 days later has barely gotten better. While at Greenhouse every time the DJ (or whoever) increased the volume, he visibly looked in pain (and I was in some minor pain for a few seconds myself each time the volume increased). The morning after we left Greenhouse I had to constantly repeat myself louder than usual because he could not hear me clearly (and I'm already loud to begin with). Even now (days later) he has needed people to repeat themselves constantly. He sometimes now can't even hear certain people on TV anymore and needs subtitles to understand what they are saying. This is a man in his early 40s, not 70s. This was not a problem before we went to Greenhouse. As you can imagine, I am very upset by the very real injury he has taken on from what should have been a fun night. I had headaches the next morning myself (and again I want to reiterate that I have done a lot of clubbing before and don't recall having this problem). My other friend with us also let me know the next day her ears were hurting. There is zero reason for the speakers to be that loud. It isn't a big space, so there's nowhere for the sound to go that would have made it better. While it is always a good idea to bring the kind of concert earplugs that helps with this, I had no idea it was going to be that bad. I urge you to bring a good pair if you plan on going to Greenhouse. As far as everything else: Food was OK. Someone told me it was fantastic, but it was nothing special. It calls itself American and Italian on its website, but when you look through the menu it's a hodgepodge of styles, including Middle Eastern. The city pictured on the wall is I believe Tehran (Iran). Restaurants that don't know what its central theme is tend to suffer in this regard; I have yet to see a restaurant that has multiple cuisines/food styles successfully pull any dish off superbly. We were very confused as to what style the restaurant was aiming to showcase. Our server was very nice and accommodating, so I will concede to that. However, again, a decent night out was overshadowed by my partner's pain and injury. read more

We came to Washington from Houston for a wedding of our friends for the weekend. My husband owns middle eastern restaurant in Houston. We spent evening of Apr 19 in Greenhouse. Had nice table with drinks for around 8-9 ppl. Everything was fine until the time my husband wanted to order hookah. He got $72 bill instead of $55. My husband has strong principles, he will not pay price higher for smth that costs different (read lower) price in the menu. After asking why the price is $72, server replied that this includes tax and tips. My husband told that he will decide about the tips. After he refused to get the hookah. 3 ppl of security or whatever these ppl are disrespectfully kicked my husband out. One of them was Sasha, who was smiling with his crooked grin, feeling his power. Poor and rude service from arrival to departure. As some previous reviews rightly point out, there are hidden costs, absurd minimums for a table, lack of customer service, and sub-par food too. I Love coming here, I love the staff and the atmosphere.... However a few things I can complaint about: the owner should pay attention to a few things: 1. Ladies restroom has a water leak for the longer (Spanish side), 2. The same restroom usually has trash all over the floor 3. This was my first time at Greenhouse. I've always seen people check in to this place. I was having dinner here for a friends bday party. As you walk in, it's a very open atmosphere and welcoming. It literally looks like a greenhouse from the outside but inside it looks as big as a warehouse. We arrived for dinner around 9 o'clock so that we could stay later for the "party/hookah" side. I believe our servers name was Veronica. She was very nice and bubbly...we had a party of 10. We requested seperate checks in the beginning of the service because different people were leaving at different times. We started off by ordering drinks, i requested something sweet and strong but the bartenders fell short of my expectation. The dining area/bar area was not busy but our food came out before the drinks did. I will say everything that we ordered on the menu was DELICIOUS!! Hats off to the chef. My friend ordered the ceviche....I had a bite. It was fresh with a lemon zing served with plantain chips. I ordered the RISOTTO MARE and I loved it!!!!! It has 5 mussels on the outside of the plate with mixed seafood such as scallops and shrimp with the risotto. It was a red sauce looking base and the risotto was cooked to perfection topped off with cheese. I licked my plate clean and only let my friends have a taste. I believe their menu had a lot of salad and seafood. Everyone at the table was happy with their food. I will be back! As we finished paying for our bill, we packed up and moved next door to the hookah/bar/lounge room. It's dark inside with a lot of glow lights. We also got a table inside the lounge to smoke some hookah. The crowd is definitely Persian and they mostly played Persian music with a little bit of hip hop and house. Greenhouse Bistro is well decorated and spacious to accommodate large parties, including private parties. A plus, free coat check and complimentary valet parking. I was confused with the menu selection, a mix of different cuisines (e.g. tune poke, artisan pizza, pumpkin ravioli, Japan steak bites, beef stew). I ordered the charcuterie board and ceviche, both were small portions and tasted just alright - wouldn't not recommend. The Smokey pineapples drink was delicious, but I was disappointed the garnishes described in the drink menu were missing specially the cinnamon stick and orange slice. Service was bad and the live band was incredibly loud, our server was in charge of serving all the tables on our side of the room, which then took about 20 minutes for the check to come out after requesting it. read more

Absolutely terrible. Got there and they sat us at the lounge but there were stuff for the 9:00pm reservation already when our reservation was at 6:45pm . The server was constantly rushing us and the entire time the environment felt very hostile. I had brought in a cake and the hostess did not mention ANYTHING about a charge of $35 of bringing our own cake in but the server mentioned it in front of us as the birthday person was cutting the cake. Very unprofessional and just plain rude. I honestly never been to a place where they charge you a fee for bringing your own cake. I get if it's a small fee but a fee of the same price as a whole cake?! Food was below mid. Everything was either bland or salty. Missing utensils and sharing plates as we received our food. ZERO STARS IF I COULD. DO NOT GO HERE. TRULY AWFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE. Made the reservation on Resy on Sunday December 24, 2023, around 1:50 pm for 10 guests at 6:45 pm on December 31, 2023. Emailed on Dec 24 from Resy confirming reservation. I get a text notification on December 26, 2023, at 8:18 pm stating "Your reservation is not Valid for New Year's Eve celebration and will be cancelled. Please call 703.537.5700 for confirmation. Thank you." I called the number twice, once at 8:28 pm and again at 8:32 pm, no answer. It may not have been open seeing that it was Christmas day. I emailed Resy and they said the reservation was not cancelled from what they could see and advised me to call the restaurant. I called on December 27 2023 at 2:42 pm and could barely hear the man speaking on the phone. He said that reservations had to be made on the phone and to call back at 4 pm. I checked and that is when the restaurant opened. I called back at 4:18 pm, the same man answered the phone with just "hello" and told me this was not the restaurant number and to call back at the restaurants number. I asked what the restaurants number was and he repeated the same number I had been calling and hung up. I re-dialed the number and told him it was the same number and he said he would call back in 5 minutes. I waited 10 minutes and called back at 4:30 pm and no one answered. I even called on my house phone to see if they were ignoring just my calls, no one answered that number either. I called back around 5 pm and he said hello, I asked who am I speaking to, he said Sasha, I said Sasha who? He said Sasha the manager. I said okay where am I calling, what establishment. He said "the number you called". I said AND WHAT IS THAT? He said Greenhouse. I said okay, you've been giving me the run around, I am trying to speak to someone about my reservation and you said this wasn't the number so what is it. He switched his tone and started asking about the reservation and he said I had to make a reservation at 6:30 pm (instead of 6:45?? Really??) to have a full dinner service. And we had to leave at 8:00 pm or would get charged $100. The Resy reservation says by 10 pm and $75 dollar charge. He kept asking so what do you want to do about it. I explained why I was frustrated to no avail. I said I wanted to cancel it (because if this is any indicator of the experience I will have dining there, god forbid). He immediately hung up. I called back three times and he finally answered. I said I just wanted to make sure my reservation is cancelled because it seems like you hung up on me. I told him this was truly terrible customer service as someone who used to work in the industry and he said "I know". read more

Place is unsafe absolutely low level staff with attitude zero service zero communication skills or any decency. Also lately if you lady you could get harassed on dance floor by strangers place not clean drinks weird it's awful place only exist because of location period. Most uneducated unprofessional and rude staff I had faced in my life I never had as much negative impact from any place and I been literally harassed by their staff which was really traumatic experience and emotional distress. I was not expecting what I got here, and this time it is in a good way. I was also told this place basically becomes a nightclub after 9 pm, and you could see that heavily in the decor, from the low lighting to the florescent bulbs in the bathroom, it is beckoning to be woken up at 9 pm. But this review is about the food, as I went here with a friend for lunch. Their prices are fair, so we started with a salsa dip. They also give you complementary bread with a lemon butter. The bread is really good, the butter too. Same went with the chips and salsa. Just about the perfect consistency and the chips were warm too. You're given a lot as well. For our entrees we both got pizza. I got the Pizza Bianca with Prosciutto, he got the Margarita. The pies themselves were actually really good! The crust was well baked and there was plenty of meat on my pie. My friend liked his, and I seriously considered getting his as well as having a slice of his. Oh well, maybe next time. But I definitely wanted one of his. It looked really good. The crust is nice and thick and they give you a good amount for lunch. I also ordered a tiramisu for dessert. It is good, but rather small. Next time, I'll pass. The customer service was good too, as they give plenty of discounts to get people to come eat here, which made it a reasonable option to get a late lunch. Visited this restaurant on 8/12. We selected this restaurant because their ability to accommodate one of our parties allergy restrictions. Came for lunch and then returned for dinner since we were at a hotel across the street. All of the meals were great & the service was excellent all around. The manager, Alvaro, was very energetic, polite, attentive & accommodating. Rolled his sleeves up and jumped in to help bus tables & take orders to make sure everyone was taken care of. Adrian, our server, was attentive, polite, knowledgeable of the menu and took care of our every need. He had his hands full but stopped by to check on us frequently. I have been coming here almost every Tuesday for Taco Tuesday for the past few months. The taco's are great but my favorite thing to order other then taco's are the shrimp skewers!!! I also enjoying coming on Tuesday's because of the great hospitality. Hamid always takes great care of our group and there are alotttt of us and makes sure that everything is served right and in a timely manner. The drinks here are also delicious and the hookah is great. I have been to this establishment a few times during the weekend. It's always a good time! Good music, nice crowd!!
