I stopped into the Greenside Café this week for a wonderful lunch. I was immediately greeted and seated by an attentive and helpful server. She made recommendations, and was quick to bring drinks and take orders. Although I ended up opting for just the house salad, I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of fresh ingredients and the ample size. The restaurant's interior balances an airiness created by high ceilings, with a cozy atmosphere. The menu has several vegetarian items, as well as enough meat options to satisfy any appetite. I look forward to returning to try some of the pasta dishes on the menu! read more

Stopped in for lunch with a friend who was visiting from out of town. We both got a half a sandwich, Monte Cristo (which was yummy). I got the soup and my friend ordered a salad. She asked for a special salad and the waitress was very accommodating. The soup was ok, the place is nicely decorated, and the food was all very good. The Gluten Free can eat here! I wanted the trout gluten free they did it! Can't order a less than wonderful meal here! Come hungry, the portions are large. I live in the local area & have had a few good evening dishes over the past year but recently went for late breakfast mid-week to meet a friend. We ordered scrambled eggs & bacon served with potato hash browns with toast. Although the service was good, our eggs were so greasy we could not really eat them as it just took over the flavor of the eggs, and the real potatoes cubed & fried were totally tasteless & unseasoned. We complained & were credited the meal & just paid for our coffee. It is a shame that more effort was not made to create tasty eggs & potatoes by the chef on duty, and not sure if what we received is the usual recipe, but we are not planning on trying it again. Perhaps the owner could revamp this basic dish with discussion of options with the morning chef. read more

Greenside is the restaurant we go to most often, particularly for breakfast. We put them up in the "budget friendly gourmet category. Weekends they have some breakfast specials that you won't find anywhere else, including the Hengrenade (I'll let you be curious about what that is, but it is very good.) The menu is varied, with something for everyone, even those with dietary restrictions, (with codes identifying if something is vegetarian.) They have weekly specials varying from the almost mundane to the wonderfully exotic. Their clams linguini, offered as a special on some Thursdays, is superb, with a light but very flavorful sauce and lots of tender steamer clams. And if you can catch them on that rare day that they have fish tacos with mango salsa on the menu--before they are sold out-- you will not be disappointed. Their daily menu has some of the best fish and chips we've ever had and they serve it with a tartar sauce to die for. You can sit on the patio for much of the year, and enjoy the pine trees and mountain breezes, or look at trees through their big picture windows from the comfort of inside. We try to make sure all of our pass-through guests have at least one meal there before traveling on. We haven't had anyone be disappointed. If you want a TV there are other places. This restaurant is for relaxing and enjoying really good food. And if something isn't to your liking (say your egg isn't cooked just the way you wanted it) do say something. We've been loyal Greenside customers for several years and love the eclectic (and delicious) selection they offer to our mountain community. I rate the restaurant with three stars because the last three times we've called in a dinner order, either the order was incorrect, or dishes were left out (that were paid for). The owner provided amends, but I'm not sure if we'll call in again. I'm hoping the issues are chalked up to new staff. I definitely recommend them for breakfast. The Greenside Café is one of those pleasant surprises that pop out on the side of the road, and if you don't know to look for it, you drive right by. It is very upscale looking for a café and the service and food matched the facilities' appearance. I ordered the Sloppy Joe Taco Salad. It came with the usual salad greens, guacamole, sour cream and ground meat. What made it exceptional was the bacony refried beans. That was the best combination I have had for a salad. My hat is off to the Greenside Café for making a salad that I could eat three times a week and still think it was great. My spouse ordered the plain burger and added mushrooms and onions and a salad. The burger was overcooked on one side, but was still edible. The salad was made tasty by the mango dressing and the pickled carrot slices. This place is worth a stop if you are in the area. read more

The green chili fries were great. I would recommend them to anyone. The veggie burrito was good until I got food poisoning. My guess is they infrequently get customers ordering the veggie burrito so the veggies were most likely old and contaminated. Don't get the veggie burrito here! read more

YUCK!!! The food was terrible. I ordered the meatloaf sandwich that consisted of a cheap white bun with a postage stamp sized piece of meatloaf topped with raw way under cooked onion rings with also raw under cooked french fries (seriously how do you serve raw french fries??) The food used to be good but sadly it has gone waaaaaaay downhill. The server was good but the food was very bland. The fries look like they were straight out of an Ore Ida package. An item stated to be with the meal wasn't and when I asked about it I was told it didn't come with the meal yet it stated in the menu that it did almost as a highlight to the dish. The desert was decent. Sorry that it went from more of a Flying Star style food to Denny's style food AND the prices went up. We won't be going back. read more

Came from brunch, not sure if we will return in the future. When ordering, I double checked with our server that the poached eggs for the Hen Grenade will be runny yolk/cooked whites, he said yes. Whites came out mostly uncooked and I had to scrape them off, losing most of the eggs. Green chile and cheese topping (extra $$) on the red potatoes was watery and bland...Hardly any spice to it. Friend ordered toast halfway through the meal -- we then stared at the toast after it popped out of the toaster (visible from where we were sitting) for about 10-15 minutes before it was brought over. Great place for lunch in Cedar Crest. The staff was friendly, and the food was quite nice. We had a varied age group, two seniors, two adults and two kids, and there was something for everyone. They have a lite eaters menu ($8 and $9 options), which kids could order off of for just $3.95. All in all a nice place. read more

I used to love this place. We would go there all the time, and the food was awesome. But lately, EVERYTHING has gone downhill. I ordered the peanut noodles, once I revived them they were watery. I decided to just finish them because I had already sent back my previous dish twice, which was the green chili Alfredo pasta. Unfortunately my father got sick for days after eating the huevos Rancheros, and after taking to the owner about the problems we had found, all that he could reply with were EXCUSES. Never going back, very sad because it used to be a restaurant that I would recommend to all of my friends, now I would be scared for a birds life if i saw it fly off with their food in its mouth! read more

I love the Greenside Cafe, I've been a frequent patron from day one. Owners Jay & wife Barbra are great folks and have a great staff and good service. The Greenside Cafe is an upscale staple for the East Mountains area. However I have concerns that I would like to convey with love for my friends Jay & Barb. Over time the quality of the food has become less consistent and not the high standards of days past. The little things like fresh cold salad, fresh cold fruits. The paste prepared when needed not water logged and cold. Freshly prepared dishes vs reheated. The kitchen needs to refocus their attention to quality and details. Some days the food is fabulous and other day disappointing. Being a Vegan fresh and quality food is of up most importance. Your doing everything right with the exception of consistent quality food which is the foundation of success in the restaurant business. I know that you are seasoned professionals, you just need to get back to basics. Please take my input to heart as I give it with love and concern. Once loved this place! (The green chili chicken mac & cheese was delish!) Past 2 times I went have been one disappointment after another. Service has gone down with seemingly careless workers. Food and chili was bland and tasteless, along with the Alfredo. The green chili alfredo was water-y and when asked to replace it with a thicker sauce, the 'chef' simply poured the water out. Would've eaten it anyway except the hair in it was too much to digest...that was their possible redemption trip.unfortunately do not plan to return. read more

I had such high hopes for Greenside Cafe, but unfortunately it turned out to be a huge disappointment. We went for lunch on Sunday afternoon. All started off well -- friendly greeting, nice decor, great menu. Then the food started to arrive and it went downhill quickly. We started with an order of hot wings -- pretty basic. They arrived quickly, looked and smelled great, and tasted good until we noticed they were still ice cold on the inside near the bone. Gross and poor food safety. We sent them back, which I always try hard not to ever do. They came back much darker and were now super hot (almost dangerously so), but were edible. I had a steak quesadilla for my entree, which was mediocre and super greasy. It was served with literally, about 1 tablespoon each of bland guacamole, sour cream, and tasteless salsa. I also had a side garden salad, which is hard to ruin normally, but they managed to do so. Lettuce was very dark, wilted and dried out. It obviously had been kept in the fridge far too long, uncovered. I tried to pick out the bad leaves, but it was more than half the salad. After sending the wings back, I wasn't about to return anything else. Green chile ranch dressing sounded good, but was heavy on mayo, light on green chile. Based on reviews, we ordered the chocolate molten lava cake a la mode. It was decent, but after the series of problems it didn't do much for us. Finally, one note about the place itself -- after a short while in the restaurant, we noticed the place had an overwhelming smell of grease -- kind of like being in a big Fry Daddy. They need some better ventilation. We walked out of Greenside $50 lighter for lunch for 2 and smelled like old french fries. This was my first visit to Greenside and definitely will be the last. read more

Food is pricey, but of decent quality. Wait staff is attentive and pleasant. My biggest gripe is the price of its trashy wine: the house merlot, for example, is $7 for a standard size glass and it tastes terrible. Happy hour price from 2 to 6 is a buck off beer and wine; good selection of draft beer. read more

Giving this a one star, because "no stars" is not an option. Not going to The Green Side ever again. We are locals and have eaten here a few times when it first opened. In the past year service and quality of food has gone downhill. They have not kept their food quality at the level it was that made them popular. Our dinner on March 25th was the third time we had poor service. And the third time we brought it up with the manager (this time it was the owner). And the third time it was just acknowledged as "Oh. Ok. Thanks." The complaint was dismissed, and the owner did not even want to know what the problem was. The first problem was, we were seated and left in the corner for more than ten minutes. It wasn't busy. There was ample seating. After waiting for service for that ten minutes, my husband got up and notified the girl who seated us. She notified the waitress. Who said "Oh, I didn't see you sitting there." Which was a lie, because I saw her at another table when we were waiting for service, and I had made eye contact in hopes of maybe someone putting in a drink order. Then we spent another five minutes waiting for her to come to the table. We still had no beverages at that point. We ordered everything at that time she came to take our drink order. The meal did come out in a timely manner - so at least the kitchen was on point. Then we were forgotten about again. No refills on drinks - I had coffee and it had been empty shortly after I got my meal. I even put it to the edge of the table as most people do when they need a refill, or when the waitress would stop by to ask how our meal was (which never happened) It was ignored. It was ignored again when the busser/hostess stopped by and asked if my husband wanted more soda. We were never checked on to ask how our food was. We sat and waited for the ticket. We got frustrated and then my husband just got up to pay for the bill (that we still had not received). My husband tended to the bill with the owner (Jay), who had asked how his service and meal were, my husband had replied "Well there were some problems with our service." And that was when the owner just dismissed it with a "Thanks." No further questions as to what those problems were. No further inquiry as to why do you think there were problems with your service. Just "Thanks." Just going to stick with Ribbs. They are attentive and their menu is great. And you are taken care of if there ever is a problem. Also - for any of you going there for the coffee - it is Agapao, and you can get it across the way at the Triangle Grocery. read more

The Greenside is our Favorite East-Mountain restaurant! Relaxing Atmosphere, very good food and an excellent selection of Albuquerque and Santa Fe microbrews on tap. Menu is not huge, but what they do, they do very well. Only reason for four stars instead of five - occasionally the service and food delivery can be a tad slow. If you are not in a hurry, then this would not be an issue. Overall, highly recommended for a Nice place on N-14! read more

I have been a couple times and do not regret the 20 min drive required. Try the Biscuits and Chile, it's fantastic and spicy. However, get there before three p.m. if you want any breakfast entrees. I also had a veggie burger, which was great and the patty was prepared in house, always a plus. I'll be making a bi-monthly visit. My advice, go with a huge appetite and take the scenic route aka NM333 to Cedar Crest, enjoy the views of the Sandias, but don't miss the turn on North NM 14, like I did. read more
