We've been here twice, once in the summer & once yesterday (December). We really enjoy what we've had here, so far! Our favorite is the chicken breast. Great crisp outer skin, solid flavor. The meat seems more on the drier side- which I prefer. The drumsticks are good too, but definitely a lot more moist. We got a medium order of the fries, you get a really good amount (quart container) for the price. They're crisp on the outside, soft on the inside. I definitely recommend getting salt added on them, otherwise they're really bland. The onion rings (also in a quart container, one size) were excellent. Great flavor- easy to bite into. We tried Greer's when we first moved to CT only to experience bad customer service. I called tonight at 7:30 only to be told they are not taking any more orders since they close at 8. What other restaurant post one time and stops serving at least 30 minutes prior to closing. I would like to see Greer's close permanently. January 2019 Information on the website regarding hours is not accurate. Employees did not care when inaccuracies was pointed. Simply kept saying, oh well, we close at 7. Greers is like an institution in Bristol. It's a wonderfully run family business in a quaint building tucked away off route six. Greers has been in business at least 59 years for good reason. Their fried and rotisserie chickens are delicious and make for a great dinner on the run when paired with either their macaroni or potato salad. Their food is always delicious, reasonably priced and consistent. Why mess with their formula when it's worked so well for so many years. You can't go wrong stopping here and the servers are always pleasant and helpful too. There is ample parking adjacent to the establishment, making it easy to pick up a great family meal on the way home when you don't have time to cook! read more

I was looking forward to some exceptional fried chicken. I had read the reviews and had friends tell me of the wonderful chicken from this place. Maybe I was distracted by the hype or maybe I was spoiled by other chicken joints but while this chicken was good, it was not great and certainly not the best I've had locally. The pieces of chicken were on the small side. The taste was kind of bland. We also had the mashed potatoes and baked beans. The potatoes were on the dry side and the beans were very sweet. I did like the beans but they could use a little less sweetness. I so wanted this to be great chicken. All in all, I would go here again if I were in Bristol but will not be making the trip from Southington again just for this chicken. read more

Absolutely wonderful place to grab food. There isn't a place to sit down besides picnic benches outside. Their chicken chunks come as a 1/4 pint, 1/2 pint, and 1 pint. We always get the 1 pint of buffalo chicken chunks and baked beans. The chicken is perfectly spicy if that's even a good description. We love the heat factor and Greer's definitely brings it. So I've lived in Bristol for a decent amount of time, and always heard of Greer's, but never actually knew where it was. I've spoken with the owner a trillion times, heard it was great etc. Recently my husband and I moved to a different side of Bristol, and we happened to be on the way home when BAM! We saw the huge chicken mural on the side of a building, then saw the sign for Greer's!!! We stopped and each got a buffalo chicken sandwich, which was amazing! Awesome, awesome, awesome. This little Bristol shack churns out some seriously fantastic chicken, from chunks and nuggets to whole fried birds (not to mention fried livers and other bits & pieces). Rich, the owner, is a super affable guy and we had a blast chatting with him. Also, don't pass up the sweet potato fries, they're worth every salty, highly-caloric bite. Greer's is a pretty perfect place for two things: takeout and warm weather picnics. There's no indoor seating (and hardly any place to stand inside and wait) but adjacent to the 'restaurant', there are a few picnic tables shaded by trees, which is where I ended up eating. Definitely wish this wasn't all the way in Bristol but I can absolutely see why people make the trek for Greer's! read more

This small hidden gem is finally getting the attention it deserves. Very small place with two chairs inside so I recommend everyone order take out. There is a picnic table outside but I don't think it is used much. My brother and I discovered this place but I was the first to try it! I finally found a non-chain place that serves fried chicken that tastes just as good as Popeye's fried chicken! I got each piece of the Southern Fried Chicken (Breast, Drumstick, Thigh, and Wing) to get a rough idea of how each is cooked here at Greer's. To my satisfaction, they all passed the test! I was even skeptical about the chicken breast but it was still moist and juicy. The thigh was unbelievable, reminded me of Popeye's. Greer's chicken is barely greasy but still retains the moisture. One downside is I wish the skin had more flavor, it was a little bland but the meat made up for it...besides everyone only cares about the meat!! I also got the 1/2 pint macaroni and vegetable salad. Yum-yummm Other recommendations: Buffalo and Honey BBQ Chunks. I am not a buffalo and honey bbq fanatic but once I tried these I said "OH WOW." No further words. Mashed Potato & Gravy. This will have you bouncing off the walls, so creamy and buttery. No annoying clumps. The gravy just adds another foundation of creaminess, it's like diving into a bowl of pudding. 8 Assorted Piece Southern Fried Chicken so 2 of each (Breast, Thigh, Drumstick, Wing) Might I add they also sell a large bottle of NATIVE RAW HONEY. Great Chicken, we are especially fond of the southern fried chicken breasts. They are a large sized breast also. The onion rings were great too but sadly they no longer carry them and the chicken soup will be on hold for the summer months. Order ahead or on-line because the lines get LONG especially on or close to the weekend in the summer. Prices are resonable. There were tables under the trees but I'm not sure during covid if they are still there. There is no inside dining and ordering is at an outside window. read more

I hadn't been by Greer's in atleast a year, not purposely but it's a 30 min drive and I'm usually heading a different direction. Stopped in the other night for some bbq chicken chunks and mashed potatoes and if may be even better than it was before. They do such a great job here, they keep it simple and they do it right. Their chicken is very good but I never order ahead. I did that once and I had to wait behind several customers and when I received my order most of the food was only lukewarm. Evidently my order was filled right after I ordered and ended up sitting on the shelf. Now I order when I arrive and have to wait for it. That way my food is hot when I get it and since I'm only 5 minutes away the food is still hot when I sit down to eat it. I always get some Chicken Chunks to go with the Fried Chicken. The school I work at gets Greer's Chicken often, and the owner Rich provides such a variety of tasty chicken!! The fried chicken is so crispy and tasty, the chicken wings are great, so many flavors, the chicken tenders are some of the best I've ever had, love the bbq sauce too! Okay, first of all they wouldn't drive 12 minutes down the road to deliver. That's a piss poor delivery service, shouldn't even advertise they do. Secondly, the chicken is absolute garbage. Best chicken for miles? Nah, I should have went to KFC and got some of their boney ass rat contaminated chicken. Has the owner ever even been down south? No flavor, at all. This is one of those hole-in-the-wall gems. I can't even remember where I first heard about it, but I've tried it twice and it was great both times. My parents especially love their onion rings because they are so big and crispy and not at all greasy. I've also had their pasta salad and cole slaw, and of course the fried chicken. My first time ever eating here was a few days ago. I have to admit I was expecting more flavor and uniqueness.While the food wasn't bad I would simply describe it as mostly average fare. I wouldn't say I disliked it but I also wouldn't go out of my way to go back. When I made it home I sprinkled some Lawry's seasoning salt on the fries and chicken chunks which improved the flavor greatly. The chocolate cake and slaw were good. I love Greers. I've been eating here for decades, since I was a kid. The food has always been delicious! I love the macaroni salad but usually end up with mashed potatoes and gravy because I love them a little bit more! Oh and somebody tried to tell me about a fried chicken place in Southington that's amazing so I tried it once- no way!!! Greers takes the cake. And speaking of cake, their chocolate cake is amazing. This is also the 2nd time my order was incorrect, but that's not the end of the world. We all grow up eating at a local place, thinking it's the best food in the world. What usually happens is that as we get older, the old place starts to lose it's luster. That hasn't happened with Greers. I've been eating at Greers since I was five years old, and the place hasn't changed much. It's always served some of the best fried chicken in the area: delicious spiced breading with tender, well-cooked meat. The sides, like the macaroni salad, have always been great. God, I was looking forward to this place. I finally made it there today. I pull up to this, off the beaten path, whole in the wall, small divey place about the size of a garage. It had home run written all over it. I enter with excitement and order some Buffalo chicken bites, a 16 piece (that becomes 20 for same price yay!) , and a half dozen of the fresh bt aked rolls from the bakery down the way. The chicken is fried to order and has a thin layer of crispy skin when done. I prefer a thicker batter on my chicken but I can look past this. The Buffalo chicken bites were good. I destroyed these in a few minutes. The rolls are ridiculously good. Soft and melt in your mouth. Ahhhhhh, I love good bread. Gluten? Yes please! Now, the chicken. It was good not great. I think that do to all the hype this place gets, it was built up very high for and failed to meet my expectations. I took down 5 pieces. Hey, I was hungry, ya know? The rest is to go for the fam. Now here's where the story takes an unwanted turn. About an hour and a half later, my stomach is talking to me. Talking hard That Montezuma's Revenge talk. It's now 9 hours later... I haven't stopped. Here's the kicker. My wife had the chicken for dinner. Her and I are now in the same company. She then says "throw the rest of that chicken out". I laugh and toss it. My family has been going here for fried chicken since I was a little girl. It's tucked away just out of sight from the main road, but still right off rt. 6, around the bend at the bottom of the rt 6 hill. I don't live in CT any more, but when I come home, I always ALWAYS make sure to stop in here. Chicken fried with love! You bite in, and it's juicy, tender, and bursting with flavour! They do have chicken and dumpling soup, which in my opinion is the best thing there, but it's seasonal, if I understand correctly. The onion rings are wonderful, and my dad always gets the fried little necks as a side. This place is very much part of my childhood, and even though I've spent the last ten years roaming all over America, I haven't found better fried chicken yet. read more

Interestingly the high reviews seem to be from locals, however after trying this place I can say I wasn't amazed by the chicken. In combo meals, for every four pieces one will be 1x breast,thigh,drum,wing - in a 10 piece order the final two pieces were drums, not even a thigh. The skin is actually pretty good not bad, lightly salted - the meat however has no flavor, some pieces weren't even fully cooked as there was blood in the meat. I've had better chicken, this is no way is southern style chicken, maybe southern bristol chicken. The sides were pretty solid in my opinion, onion rings were humungous - perhaps the best I've ever had. The cole slaw, and chicken mac salad were good to- the potato salad lacked flavor, to bland in my opinion. The mash was good but the gravy was disappointing - no flavor/ bland. Now theres another chicken shack in town l, might just buy their chicken and the sides from this place. 10 piece chicken and baby sized sides- $33 (ouch) read more
