Jamba Juice? Away with the wind, but not completely gone. There's still some Jamba Juice locations throughout my big city. What we now see at the corner of 9th Avenue and Irving was a truly fancy French café that was straight from the East Bay. Say "salut" to Grégoire! Home to fried chicken sandwiches, poutine, and potato puffs, Grégoire would never disappoint. I could tell how good their food looks before they're delicious. My first order for my first visit were nine pieces of potato puffs that surrounded by a white truffle essence. Crunchy on the outside, mashed potato soft on the inside! Two words, chef's kiss! Good for takeout, but I could stay to finish all my potato puffs. Might be back to try other good eats. I wouldn't mind if Grégoire turned out French rather than Canadian. It's been ages since we lived throughout the Bay Area. I been waiting for so long to visit Montreal after my dad; I can hardly wait to find out what it's like to dine in a real Canadian café or restaurant. First and foremost they should really update their menu and list all of the ingredients in their food. I went in and ordered the chicken pesto wrap. Ordered to-go. I got home and I take bite or the wrap only to find the wrap had tomatoes inside. I'm allergic to raw tomatoes... Thankfully I could pick them out and toss the salad. Despite the tomatoes, the wrap was a fail. The pesto was probably some of blandest I've ever had and chicken was even less satisfying. You definitely don't get your moneys worth here. Glad I got to try this place that opened up a couple of months ago! It definitely an order to go location as there's only a couple of seats inside though they do have some patio tables lining the sides of the building. Service was pretty fast. It was lunch time and they were juggling preorders as well. Ordered the smoked salmon salad and potato puffs. I thought the packaging was very interesting as I think it's a first that I have eaten salad off wax paper inside a paper box. I'm not sure if it works as the dressing did leak into the box so it had to be composted instead of recycled. Salad was good. It looks small but that's because of the container. I thought there was a good amount of food in there. The potato puffs were slightly disappointing. The dipping sauce leaned on the saltier side but the potato puffs itself had no seasoning (no salt). The texture of the potato puffs was good as it was crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Potato puffs are what they are known for. Note: There is definitely limited seating here. For the food - Fried chicken sandwich is a fried chicken filet with a spicy coleslaw on a french roll. The fried chicken unfortunately was not crispy when I got it, it was also a bit dry and not that spicy. It was okay overall. Leg of lamb sandwich - It had some thinly sliced pieces of lamb, with roasted garlic, marinated tomato and a waffle potato chip on a grilled ciabatta. This was probably my favorite item of what was ordered. Mushroom and garlic quiche w/ salad - it was fine, I wish the crust was crispy but other than that nothing too special. Was excited about trying this new spot in the sunset, a branch off of a famous Berkeley joint. It's bright and clean, with a handful of stools at the window. I see it doing well with folks picking up a lunch as I did coming from work, a quick afternoon potato puff pick-me-up, or an easy picnic in the park. Fried chicken sandwich - good fry, enjoyed the slaw, but little bland and ratios were off so it's a LOT of bread (the roll's pretty dense too) on top of breading on the chicken. Would recommend getting this as salad or just skipping. Bavette steak sandwich was similarly too much bread but better since ciabatta is thinner, though bottom was soggy. Enjoyed the steak, arugula, blue cheese spread, though onions were surprisingly cold. Would reattempt this and ask for ciabatta grilled, and try the lamb. This review is for their food truck that's parked in the Presidio. We were visiting the tunnel tops and decided to give this spot a try. We tried their two best sellers, the chicken sandwich and crispy potato puffs. With tax and tip, it came out close to $30. I felt like the chicken sandwich had potential but it was lacking some flavor. The chicken while breaded nice didn't have any distinct flavor and really came from the sauce and slaw. The bread wasn't super fresh tasting. Maybe it was a bad day but it missed the mark for me. The potato puffs were decent. One order came with like 10 pieces, so it's good to share with a group. We got it with garlic and parsley but probably should've got em regular. It's basically a fried (although I wish they were crispier) mashed potato ball, while I like the idea, i felt like it needed more salt or pepper. The aioli for dipping added a nice flavor profile. Glad I got to try it and see what the hype was all about. Definitely wouldn't order what I got again but the rest of the menu had somethings that sounded tasty but just didn't have the stomach room to eat it all at once lol read more

This place serves sandwiches and wraps but the hot item on their menu is the hot potato also known as the potato puff. I was here for the poutine. I get excited over poutine because French fries , gravy, and cheese curds are my jam. The savory delicious gravy compliments the crunchy fresh fries and the cheese curds. Although the cheese curd has some cheese pull it was not as cheesy as some in SF. Overall a must try for Canadian poutine lovers. I visited the original location in Berkeley several years ago, and I remember really enjoying the potato puffs. I was excited to see a location open up closer to me! I got the crispy potato puffs with garlic and parsley and they were quite tasty--piping hot, a nice crisp on the outside, and a warm and gooey potato mash on the inside. The garlic and parsley flavors also came through well without being too overpowering. Not sure if my memory of my Berkeley visit is serving me, but I thought the puffs used to be bigger. Ok, now about the food! The Potato Puffs comes with 9 pieces, a dipping sauce, and doesn't have any filling inside the puff instead of it just being a plain mashed potato. I wish it had some type of filling inside the puff, but at least the sauce it came with helped a lot. I'm so excited Gregoire finally expanded to SF! I used to go to the Berkeley location several years ago, and I still reminisce about the potato puffs. Of course, I had to order my usuals here - the fried buttermilk chicken sandwich and the crispy potato puffs. These tasted just as delicious as I had remembered. This place is pop-you-lar, already so pop-you-lar.... (the worst, i know) but I'm so happy to see that the winter soft opening is (almost) a line out the door!!!! And the food is worth it (honestly, they are very very efficient here and have an impressive and disciplined staff cranking out fresh orders, we got ours in under 15 minutes which was shocking). There's even a nice little board that says which are ready AND which are in progress (better than kaiser pharmacy amiright?!?!? ... ugh... anyway...), they also have a tablet for ordering if you don't want to order at the counter and want to just swipe your credit card. Staff were delightful, efficient and the food was everything we hoped for after almost six months of the signs announcing their arrival took over the (very) old Jamba Juice 'hot corner' at THE 9th and Irving of "Ninth-and-Irving". It was actually my first time ever eating at Gregoire even though I've gone by the Berkeley location many times over the years. I wanted the quiche but they were out of it, so I went for a healthy option of salad with baked salmon. It was tasty, although the salmon seemed more like tuna. And I had to get the potato puffs. They're crispy outside but light and almost creamy inside, not quite what I was expecting. They were good but honestly I would probably choose fries next time. I literally had not been to Gregoirés since 2002, in Berkeley, but as they say, family got in the way. I had been passing by for weeks wondering what was going into the old Jamba when I stumbled upon Gregoire's, a place that opened back in 2002 in Berkeley and I ate at the night my daughter was born...... but since.... And now they have a place in SF for French Takeout. Took my daughter and we split the Bavette Steak and Fried Chicken Sandwiches and each got our own order of their famed potato puffs which were so light and creamy just the way I remembered The sandwiches were great. While so many chicken places have opened up you will eat this fried chicken sandwich and say Oh LA LA. Then to the steak sando..... served cold with a little garnish...I closed my eyes and went to heaven! Have you not guessed? I'm a bit of a francophile and this place hit the spot. It is 90% take out and online ordering only allows you to order ahead by 30 minutes. Took me about 10 minutes to get home and everything was still warm (except the steak which is served room temp). Overall, service was pretty good. I think they are still in the "soft open" phase, so may be working out the kinks. A little slow and inattentive to start, but once you got their attention, the staff were all in. Ambiance is okay. There some counter seating in the store and some outside seating. As for the food, we just ordered the hearty vegetable soup and garlic potato puffs. The soup was a okay, but a little too thin to be "hearty." Wife gave it a solid "B." The puffs were a solid C+. The powdered Parmesan cheese shaken onto the puffs didn't make much of an impact. The crispy outside was fun, the inside tasted like unseasoned mashed potatoes. Maybe seasoning the innards, or integrating Parmesan inside the puff would have helped the flavor.
