Then are sandwiches places which has been serving the same types of sandwiches for decades in the city and seem like their stuck in the game but been ahead of the game for years. There is place where there are games from the 80's and 90's and they also have sandwiches with names like Rosemary Gravy's Torta-ly Insane, and the Vietnamese inspired You drop the Banh on Mi. It's located in the Outer Richmond ( Not the City but the District)in SF. On a Summer stroll through California street I landed inside Ham and Cheese. Inside it feels you stepped inside a Time Machine taking you back in time. You will see lots of arcade games like Street Fighter , Ms. PAC Man, Tron, and other classic games. I came for the sandwiches and order something cheesy with ham and it was the French inspired Jambon ET Fromage. It was savory and tasty and not too cheesy like some in SF. Plan a visit back in time for lunch. Go to a place where vintage video games are "displayed" and where vintage video games are "played" and tasty sandwiches that's cheesy in SF like the Praise Cheezus are "made" which can be paired with some sweet and sour "lemonade" Go try the different cheeses and get cheesy and then go "ham" a place where you can play a video game called "NBA Jam "and then play a wrestling video game which has similar terms for food slang on Facebook, X, and "Instagram" because like wrestling food also slaps, smacks, and has a kick, and it will also"slam" read more

Uh oh. Came when the app said it would be ready - 20 minutes after the order was put in. When we came in I noticed that they were having trouble figuring out someone's order. Turns out it was mine :( had to wait another 10 minutes, which would've been okay had the counter person just apologized but instead he tried to make it seem like I was in the wrong. Apparently all online orders take a minimum of 30 minutes... I was already on the fence about ham and cheese because they had previously gotten a friend's order very wrong, but I wanted to give them a chance. Oh well... read more

I had really high hopes, and it was good, but not GREAT. My sandwich (shrooms over my hammy) was really good, but needed a bit more of acid or heat to put it over the top. The earthiness of the mushrooms plus the heavy cheese and ham were delicious, but needed a bit to really set it above. My wife had the pickleous cage, which was good, but we had to add sauce or something like that to improve it, a bit dry. I had such high hopes for this place, but I left super disappointed, and I'm really sad about it. If I compare this place to the top deli/sandwich shops in San Francisco, it doesn't stand a chance. I walked in and asked for their most popular sandwiches and she recommended the Reuben. I asked if the sandwich was served hot, toasted, or cold, and she mentioned it's hot. The sandwich indeed wasn't toasted or hot. and I ended up taking it back to her where she suggested to redo it. The meat itself was also a bit more chewy than other places I tried. I also got a cappuccino and after a sip left it untouched. I didn't even need to take a sip to say it's not drinkable. The milk was almost boiling temperature and everything about the drink was just off (attached the pic). I would have given it a 3 star if drink was just okay. I'm glad I tried this place, as I now know it's definitely not anywhere near the top sandwich places in San Francisco (e.g deli board), and I'm not going to go back. I came in w long resident of Richmond Bobby and my not so local friend Kylie. It was a clear and beautiful day and we were recovering from a boat ride the day before, so a sandwich was exactly what the dr. ordered. We were starving, so we ordered online and the food was ready when we got there. Shout out for the extra pickles, maybe one of Bobby's favorite things about this place. I loved the arcade games, egg salad Sando, and the book selection for kids. GF bread for the win, kinda gives potato bread from Passover vibes and if you're also a vegetarian, definitely go for the picklous cage. Stopped at Ham & Cheese after a little walk in the Presidio and I am so glad we stopped by! Such a nice little spot with a little arcade area + shopping area and tons of seating to eat! Food came out super quick and was absolutely delicious - extra delicious pickles too we had to grab some more! I got a breakfast sandwich (not exactly sure what it was called) but it was so good! Great space, I was stoked to try this place but I must have gone on a bad day. Service was quick and friendly but the sandwich was a mess. I got the California to-go and when I unwrapped it 10min later I found a stale crumbly focaccia (the menu said "slab" which I expected to be ciabatta but I digress), the avocado was brown, and the lettuce was wilted and slimy. Reading all these great reviews, so I had to try a sandwich to see if it lived up to the hype! I grabbed my bf and headed towards the richmond. I didn't really read the reviews to see which sandwich was highly recommended, so we just ordered what sounded good. We both swapped 1/2 a sandwich so we got a taste of both. The guy at the cashier was nice and told us they had menus on the side so we could see what was in each sandwich. ***OUR PICKS*** CALIFORNIA ST. ~ Diestel farms turkey, evergood pastrami, avocado, pickled onion, lettuce, tomato, lemon pepper mayo on slab. This was a good combo having lettuce and tomato to give it freshness, so the sandwich wasn't too salty. Though it could have been heated and toasted a bit more. JAMBON ET FROMAGE ~ PARISIAN HAM, cured pork loin, prosciutto, hot mustard, fontina, Gruyère, olive spread, pickles on a hoagie. This sandwich was way too salty for me. It's missing lettuce and tomato to give your palate a break from the salt! I've had many sandwiches with cured meat, but this would make your blood pressure go up the roof! Like the other sandwich, I think it would have been nicer to get that crunch when you bite into the sandwich, but it was barely warm when we got it and no melted cheese which would have made it so much better. It's a cute cafe with a few tables inside and outside. We chose inside at the arcade table and tried a few games after eating our sandwich, but it kept refreshing right in the middle of a game! It's free so you can't complain, but it becomes frustrating even when you don't pay for it. The sandwiches are ok, but nothing special IMO. Plenty of great sandwich shops in SF that are less expensive and taste better. So unless you live around the corner, it's not worth traveling across the city for this. So after many attempts I found Ham and Cheese Deli. I got the ham a good day, and it hit the spot. The bread was a perfect sourdough crunch that absorbed the juices from the meat, cheese and eggs. While the flavor gave you a savory taste in every bite. The right amount of salty, spicy, and umami. He ordered the specialty Paul Rubin something or rather and I really liked the funky local names they used. After I ordered, I realize they had a breakfast sandwich with beyond sausage/plant protein with gruyere cheese and on a biscuit- I will have to come back for that one!! There wasn't much for dining inside maybe a table or two but an adorable 1980s Pac-Man where you actually sat down and looked down at the table/screen as you played! There were a couple more tables outside with chairs you could bring up from different tables for a bigger party. We got our sandwiches to go and I really like the taste and consistency of the sandwich but I wish there were some red pepper flakes or something in the guacamole itself. Perhaps that's why they added pastrami to give an extra kick. My boyfriend and I stopped by Ham & Cheese Deli to grab sandwiches on our way to China Beach and we were so happy we did. The deli was popping on the 4th of July holiday, most tables they had outside were taken up. The inside of the deli is so cute - there are retro arcade games, tons of artwork, and bay area sports memorabilia adorning all corners of the cozy shop. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. We ended up ordering the Joe Formaggio, You So Caprese, and Tripping Goat sandwiches. The Joe Formaggio was so good, you can tell that all the ingredients are high quality and fresh. I loved that the pepperoncinis cut through the richness of the meat and cheese with a vinegary, spicy zing. The slab bread was kinda like a thinner focaccia, and it was a nice softer sandwich bread that still held up when I had the other half of my sandwich later. Their menu has a section for vegetarian options, and the two we got were really good. You can tell that there was thought put into these sandwiches, unlike many sandwich shops with only one veggie option that ends up being all their veg put between two pieces of bread. The caprese sandwich had spicy tofu in there, which added such a nice texture and flavor to the sandwich. My boyfriend said he would definitely order this sandwich again. The goat cheese sandwich came with a nice mix of roasted mushrooms, arugula, and a generous topping of goat cheese on a nice hoagie roll. As someone who eats meat, I was not missing that element at all in this sandwich. I can't wait to come back to try out more of their menu. Conveniently located between the Legion and the DeYoung museums, this shop offers a good sandwich before -- or between -- exhibitions. We ordered a Little Devil Egg Salad Sandwich and a Shrooms over my hammie -- MacKenzie Chung Fegan's recommendation -- at the counter before taking one of the few seats by the window. The sandwiches came quickly, along with a few small slices of pickles. These sandwiches aren't huge, we enjoyed them both, especially the small kick provided by the Jalapeño in the Egg Salad. Continued my sampling of breakfast sandwiches in SF here with the Ham a Good Day. Very pleased with it. It looked enormous and I was concerned it was going to be messy/difficult to eat but it held together really well, zero mess. Good amount of egg and everything felt well balanced. Right level of hot sauce to give it a nice kick. The other (non-breakfast) sandwich offerings sounded great too so would love to try one in the future. The guy who took our order was really nice and he gave us a muffin to snack on while we waited since he mentioned they had extra supply from the day before (when they were closed but forgot to adjust their shipment). We appreciated it! Also love how there are arcade games and pinball machines to play while waiting. I got the shroom over my hammy. It was super good and loaded with mushroom. The sandwich was $15.50 which on the pricier side but definitely average for SF. Other: They made the sandwich pretty fast which was great. The interior of the place was super cool. It had retro vibes with arcade games. I think I have a new favorite sandwich shop in the bay area. Yes, Ham and Cheese Deli won me over, with the delectable sandwiches, diverse yet simple menu items, wonderful customer service (super friendly, and just a 6 minute wait for food), and adorable setting with a few outdoor tables and seating, a handful of arcade games and pinball you can play for free while waiting, and a cute little plant shop next door (Little Trees). We tried the Praise Cheesus, the Ham a Good Day, and the Torta-ly Insane, and everything was amazing. The Torta-ly Insane was insanely delicious, fresh toppings, good flavor, and enough to finish every last bite. The Praise Cheesus was so cheesy, filled with three types of cheese to create that mouthwatering cheese pull, the broccolini plentiful and roasted perfectly, and the herb foccacia very tasty with a great texture I love. I was really impressed with the Ham a Good Day because it's really hard to be unique with breakfast sandwiches. This one was loaded with lots of fluffy scrambled eggs, melted cheddar, thick cuts of ham and bacon, and the sourdough english muffin was toasted just right, crisp on the outside, and soft and airy inside... it was soo good. The sandwiches are pretty large too, and since we ordered extra, we definitely had leftovers.  The staff also included a couple free cookies (chocolate and peanut butter), since we were first timers, and though they were small, they were delightful. The mango arnold palmer was the perfect drink to wash down this delicious meal, great flavor and refreshing. The only downside to this place is that parking is pretty difficult to find, but after circling a few times, we found a spot just a couple blocks away. They do have limited minutes parking right out front, for pick up orders. I can't wait to return, not just for these items, but to try their other sandwiches and pastries, and empanadas! read more
