Mark is my guy. PERIOD. If you want longer explanation, please read it below. In summary, this is why I recommend Gress Heating and Air: 1. My wife and I trust him and his brother/laborer Matt in our home and around our children. 2. The phone is answered when I call, and MARK is the one answers the phone. If not, I get prompt callbacks - some even on the nights and weekends. 3. He treats our home and its equipment like it's his own home and equipment. 4. He is honest, easygoing and reasonable. He not only lets you know what he thinks, he also sits and listens to you. If you have any concerns, he addresses them immediately. 5. I have not had to, but I feel like I could call him back on any of the jobs he's done for us the past several years, and he would not only immediately respond, but stand by his work. If you're not convinced yet, read on... We first met Mark in 2006 when our landlord called him out to the house we were renting. Our landlord had used him before, and we really liked the fact that he talked to us, was not in a rush addressing our concerns, and described what he was doing. This is why I kept his card, and in 2009 when we purchased our house, we called him out. Our AC/furnaces were almost 30 years old, and we wanted them checked out. The first words out of his mouth was "Man, for being this old, these are running and looking great." In other words - he immediately passed the honesty test with flying colors. A less-honest person could have gone down a whole other road with advice. He then described, in a no-hard-sell fashion the lack of efficiency of our units, and the straight-up dollars and cents of what it would cost to continue with what we had, opposed to how long it would take to recoup the dollar-savings of new units. He also suggested (not pushed) some cheaper things he could do to tune-up our existing units and lengthen their life, if we wanted. We had Mark put in new bearings on one of our units, and replace our thermostats from simple dials to touchscreens. All of the above and consistently hard, good, honest work was the reason why we called Mark again in 2012 to replace both of our old AC/Furnace units. Again, Mark came out, was polite and kind to our kids, sat down with us, and went over all of our options. As per usual, Mark described all of this in an easygoing, dollars and cents, "here it all is guys, you tell me what you would like me to do (if anything)" manner. He and his brother Matt spent three days in our home, working diligently, cleanly, and was again kind to our children and respectful to us as a family. We are more than pleased with their work and the products they placed. I have friends, clients and colleagues in the construction business. I am also a smart consumer and do my research. The heater stopped working... seemingly out of nowhere. I called a couple people but didn't get callbacks. Mark answered the phone right away and said he'd be there tomorrow morning. Perfect! He was pleasant and friendly on the phone, which I always appreciate. The next morning he arrived on time and quickly diagnosed and fixed the (very simple) problem. He gave us some estimates on parts that might need to be replaced soon, and some other preventative measures we could do to keep the heater running longer. Mark worked on our heater here in Pleasanton. After doing some quick diagnostics, he found our gas valve was busted. So he quickly got on the phone with the company to call in the part, then drove all the way to Benicia to pick it up and was back within what seemed like only an hour. he quickly installed it then took it upon himself to re route some of the wiring so it didn't melt and cause future problems! I have used Mark for years. He has serviced my a/c, serviced and repaired my furnace, repaired three gas fireplaces and sucked all the lint and stuff out of my dryer vent system. I highly recommend Mark Gress for your furnace repairs. He is very professional, personable, honest and stands by his work. Last April he came to repair my furnace and replaced the circuit board after thoroughly checking every component to ensure that was the only issue. In December my furnance would not stay on so I called Mark again. It turned out the circuit board may not have been connected properly to the wirings so it was just a loose connection issue. Mark did not charge me for the visit since it was related to the circuit board he had replaced earlier. Called Mark out during the recent heat spell, the AC stopped working, I did some online troubleshooting and it looked like the capacitor was probably bad. But didn't want to try to fix myself. Got an appointment for early the next week, which was reasonable given the heat spell and the fact I had never done business with his company, I did not expect to be at the front of the line, Mark called before the appointment as requested, he showed up on time and got right to work. He explained what he was doing and why which was nice, first he found we had 50 amp fuses instead of the 60 called for on the panel, one was blown. He replaced that and the AC fan started up, but not the compressor, which lead him to the capacitor, it was tested and it was bad, which he explained is likely was caused the fuss to blow. He also noticed the AC had a delayed start relay, but so does the thermostat, so he said that was a duplication that was not needed and would probably go out later on, so he recomemded removing it as preventative maintenance. Which he did at no charge. This was very nice, he could have left it in thinking that in a few years it would go out and he would have a return call, but he did not. Nice to see a service person looking out for you. He recommended changing the batteries in the thermostats and changing the filter regularity has the best preventative measures I could take. The entire repair was done promptly and professionally. At a very fare price. I would highly recommend his services, he is honest, professional, and fair priced. read more
