I've been coming here since I was a little boy, every time I've come to town to see my family. A 5-Star rating should be contextual. This isn't a gourmet place. It's not the kind of spot you need to go out of your way to visit. It is certainly not the place you'll find modern day tastemakers or "influencers" spending their time. Good. It doesn't want to be that, and it doesn't try to be that. The atmosphere is casual, friendly. The service is warm, polite and efficient. The coffee is solid "diner coffee". The food is good, everything is done well. Again, nothing too extraordinary. However, for what it's worth: they make a damn fine pozole. If you're willing to take someone's advice, that's what I'd get here. The matzo ball soup is also a favorite, and you can't go wrong ordering breakfast. Not my favorite sandwich spot, but they do ok there as well. read more

The server was not truthful. Latino owner and all the employees including kitchen help. The cook was the dishwasher. Ordered two bowls of water with a matzo ball that fell apart cause it was all oil. Terrible. The chicken was reheated multiple times. Uncountable and unchewable. The size was a tiny and black Then they gave me my dirty plate back with two slices of reformed freeze burned turkey they had lunch specials with the exact price of the menu. I requested plus Mexican dishes. Even the salad was lettuce. Dressings very cheap on quantity. I could not break the bagel chips. They had NO DINNER ROLLS OR BREAD FOR AT $24.95 plus extra charge for matzo ball the bill after we ate NOTHING was $50. Crazy. Asked server what was best she said chicken. Maybe the first 5 times reheated. Everything was absolutely terrible. A one star is not deserving. Very dirty inside. read more

Our morning go to for breakfast and coffee. Seriously the best breakfast in town with a nice quiet atmosphere and great service. The portions are very large and the owner is a great guy who makes the best of every meal. I couldn't recommend this more for your next breakfast spot. read more

OMG! Anyone remember Kaplan's Deli in Northridge from years ago? It was where REI is on Devonshire and Reseda. Anyways, my sister got the French dip and she said it reminded her of the one she used to get at Kaplan's. She loved it. I got the cheeseburger and fries with a side of ranch. The ranch was bomb and I swear it tasted just like the one I used to love at Kaplan's also! I asked if any of the cooks used to work there but they all said no. Ordered the cheeseburger combo for pick up and I can't say it was my favorite. Seemed like it was a frozen patty and there wasn't much cheese on the burger. I got with onion rings and fries. The onion rings were great but fries weren't that good. The service was great though. The woman who took my order was very nice and when I came in my order was ready. Just like grandma used to make it! Stumbled on to this spot for lunch, and we were glad we did. This spot reminds me of grandma's house, the decor is retro, it's comfortable, and has all old fashion dishes. The menu has everything from burgers to breakfast. I had the corned beef, it was tender and a hearty sandwich. The matzoh ball soup was hot, made from fresh ingredients, and a huge matzoh ball. The best part was our server named Yomara. She was so friendly, enthusiastic, and cheerful. She went out of her way to make us feel at home. The service was impeccable. To the owner, Yomara worked really hard to tell us how we can save time by ordering ahead, promoting your delivery service, and giving us extra menus so we can give them to our coworkers. Greystoke Grill is a diner featuring hearty breakfast, lunch and dinner items. It's located in the far end of the the Tarzana Square plaza as you enter. I've done a couple take out orders here and the food quality is fine for a diner type of place. I would like to dine inside however because of course doing take out takes away from many components of an experience - fixing anything, crispness of fried items etc. The timeliness has always been on point and everything was packed up very nicely. On a most recent visit I ordered: Corned Beef Sandwich I did this on rye bread and ordered it with mustard, lettuce and tomato. The mustard was missed but it was still a great sandwich. Meat was tender and a generous amount, the rye bread was great and the sandwich was good sized. Sandwiches include a choice of side and it came with a pickle. I chose the macaroni salad it and it had good flavor, with noodles cooked well and a good sauce. Cheeseburger Good sized with condiments on the side (lettuce, tomato, onion). Meat seems to be frozen but it was still a bit juicy. Choice of side included. I did an order of onion rings which were on the thicker side. Good flavor and good batter. Prices are comparable to other establishments. Parking options include street and a big lot that features many parking spaces. read more

We had a family appointment in the west valley, and stopped in afterward for lunch, which proved to be a wise decision. Rachel was our server and she made some excellent suggestions (we ended up getting the corned beef benedict, chicken tenders, mickey mouse pancakes and egg salad). Everything was delicious, and when our daughter accidentally added sugar instead of salt to her fries, she graciously replaced them. A little gem named after the Tarzan author. It hidden in the corner of a strip mall very near Reseda and Ventura in Tarzana. I ordered a very filling three egg and corn beef hash with hash browns and toast. The deco is eights but it's really clean. Manny was our server. Very nice and helpful. Stopped in thinking we may have found a new breakfast spot & left feeling extremely disappointed. Food was made well & portions were decent but the service was awful. We were never checked-on once we got our food by both the woman that sat us and the man who took our orders. I was never offered a refill on my beverage, I asked for water and never received it, we were never asked if everything was ok once our food came out, and we never got our check after asking for it when we we decided we were over it. When we asked for a to-go box, we were brought a disgusting dirty one and the person who brought it to us looked bewildered when we asked him to bring us a clean one. The tables around us? Getting checked on regularly and even having conversations with the waitress who seated us & took our drink orders then disappeared to help every other table, except ours. I asked to speak to the manager about the service after we stood at the front waiting for our check for a few minutes since no one could be bothered and surprise, it was the guy who was responsible for the subpar service so the point seemed moot. Sometimes restaurants can't handle the amount of people, that's understandable, but when ALL of the tables around you get a completely different level of service, you notice. read more

Popped in here for a quick bite and what a treat! I ordered the tuna salad sandwich and my husband ordered the Reuben. Both were delightful and HUGE. I usually take a half of a sandwich home, but I could only eat about 3/4 of my first half. Second half will be enjoyed later. Same for my husband which is mind blowing. Mom and I and puppy found this place by accident in Tarzana. We sat outside and the service was good and we loved the food. It's not fancy but there is plenty of free parking . They also had a hot turkey dinner with real carved turkey which I will be back for because that is really hard to get. The matzo ball soup was delicious, so was the coleslaw, also the beef dip sandwich was real beef not packaged. The fries were tasty and good pickles too. The prices were not cheap but the quality and portions were huge and worth the money! Greystoke is named after the fictional Lord Greystoke, which is the birth name of Tarzan. It's located in Tarzana, where author Edgar Rice Burroughs used to have a ranch. I'm doing some work around the house and I've been ordering breakfast delivery from various places around the area. I have some basis for comparison, and I really do think the diner food is better here. I hesitate to mention this, because I don't want them to start cutting back, but I think the portions are heartier here as well. read more

Awesome little coffee shop/ diner. Seems to be a neighborhood joint. Everyone that works here and I mean everyone are so pleasant and easy to deal with. There are a lot of older people here which is fine with me, everyone seems to have a good time here. I've tried quite a few things on the menu and they all were top notch. Had a breakfast burrito which was quite large and delicious. My favorite item would have to be the bacon cheeseburger. The burger and fries will fill you up. We asked the server to tell the chef to either go easy on the salt or no salt at all. I heard the server tell the chef, and the meal came out how we requested.
