Came for the first time today and honestly, it was disappointing. I ordered a skillet with over medium eggs and confirmed that this means the whites will be fully cooked. They brought out eggs that were overcooked on the outside and still had slimy runny whites. I sent it back and asked for the whites to be cooked -- they came out undercooked a second time. First off, the staff here are above amazing. They are so great! That definitely stood out to me the most. It was my second time in this location last time, and they tended to us very well. Stopped in for breakfast and oh boy I'm so happy I did. This location is in the Walmart shopping center off of Decatur. There is plenty of parking available. We checked in and was told there was about a 15 minute wait but we did not even have to wait that long. There menu is packed with breakfast and brunch items. You want it they have it. They even have a few Gluten Free options as well. I ordered a Gluten free waffle with scrambled eggs and potatoes and my daughter ordered a skillet . My waffle was amazing. The 3 star review was for the eggs Benedict not the cakes, waffles or any other breakfast items. The waitress, Alicia was very cordial and helpful. She kept the coffee refills coming. I will describe Griddlecakes as specializing in pancakes and waffles with a variety of breakfast and lunch items. You can see behind the front counter where they create their cakes and waffles. I have a "top ten" list for Benedicts and after my visit I was not able to add these "Bennys" to my "top ten list" My rating is based on 3 weights : 70% = taste 20% = presentation 10% = price #1 - taste: they have an option of hash browns or breakfast potatoes . I chose hash browns. I asked for easy/light poached eggs and was presented with 1 perfectly poached egg and 1 hard. As you can see in the photo below the egg on the right is poached hard . Alicia got me a proper one with hollandaise sauce right away. The Hollandaise sauce was from a mix but was tasty. The reason I review Eggs Benedict is because of the difference in the flavor of the Hollandaise sauce and how everything is presented on the plate. Their decent amount of hash browns were shredded and cooked perfectly. #2 -presentation : The presentation was good. The hash browns although cooked well, they and the eggs could be a little more presentable. #3-price: $14.99 is the new norm for Benedicts with hash browns. Coffee for $3.50 a cup is on the high side. In my opinion these are some suggestions that would bring this to a 4 or 5 star review. Although this was made as a traditional eggs benedict. I would suggest giving an option of grilled ham or Canadian bacon. Also the English muffins should be toasted on a griddle. Make the eggs, hollandaise sauce and the hash browns look appetizing on the plate. If you take pride in how appetizing it looks the Taste will take care of the rest. So we were in the area and wanted breakfast. Decided to try GRIDDLECAKES. We were seated right away - good! We got drinks right away - good! Then we sat, and sat, and sat - No good! Finally I had to ask someone to take our order, then was told let me get you a server. Huh, wait what? Nope she was just the greeter and table cleaning person. So we waited more. Finally a young man took our order. When the food came out it looked good but alas not the case. I asked for soft poached eggs and I got three hard boiled consistency eggs. The biscuits and gravy which I usually look forward to when I see it on a menu was disappointing. Why you ask? The biscuit was burned on the bottom, and it was not at all flaky but rather (I know this myself) microwaved to warm it up and it turned into another rock on my plate. The skillet I got had no seasoning at all. The potatoes were not cooked and in fact they were undercooked but burned on the outside. How is that you ask? Well that's because they were cooked on a high temp and the outside burned before the inside cooked. Again more rocks on my plate. Now we get to the whole meal, and it was lukewarm at best. Gravy on the biscuit was thick and not seasoned and starting to set up much like concrete. In fact all three meals ordered had the same issues across the board. I was very disappointed and had such high hopes. Could this have been an off morning for this location? Not sure, but I might not go back based on this experience as there are many breakfast restaurant options in the area to chose from and in my opinion (having managed restaurants) breakfast is fairly easy and it takes a real talent to muck it up. read more

My wife and I stopped by for breakfast around 0945 on Thursday and it was a good, not great, experience. We were lucky to walk in and get a table right away. The entrance is a bit confusing, as there is a sign in desk out front, but nobody seems to attend to it. Occasionally a server would wander out and see if anyone was waiting, several parties stood around for a bit and then just left. I ordered the El Gordo Skillet with eggs over-easy, my wife ordered scrambled with pancakes and sausage, sorry I don't remember the name of the dish. My skillet was very good, with lots of potatoes, onions, and peppers. The carne asada was more like hamburger, but tasty. My wife's pancakes were way over cooked and dry, she barely touched them. She might have sent them back, but the servers were so busy, they rarely stopped by. I had to flag down a passing waitress to ask for refills, boxes, and finally the check. We ended up standing for 5 minutes, and then we waited in seats for about another 5 minutes. Also, when waiting, you do have to write your name down in a notebook.The team really cleaned tables quickly and got people seated fast as well! We were called within 10 minutes for a booth table. We sat down, were provided menus and asked if we wanted anything to drink. My friend got a Ice Tea and I had a soda. Immediately, the drinks were served. Luckily we both knew what we wanted. My friend had asked for the chocolate whipped cream pancakes and I went for their buffalo chicken wrap. I asked the waiter if it was a spicy buffalo and he had explained that Griddlecakes uses Franks for their buffalo sauce. The food was served within 15 minutes upon placing the order. I was amazed at how quickly they were able to serve us because the whole restaurant was packed with people coming in and people leaving after eating. Griddlecakes has their restaurant service on-pointe. I had a bite of my friends chocolate whipped cream pancakes. It was delicious! He had ordered a short-stack and I felt that you could of had those pancakes for not only breakfast, but lunch and dinner! There was just so much food on his plate! My Buffalo Chicken Wrap was relatively big as well, filled with fried chicken with buffalo sauce diced up, with tomatoes, cheddar cheese, and lettuce. The side was French fries. The French Fries used are the thin, deep orange, crispy fries. Cooked perfectly! The buffalo sauce was a little bit too spicy for my palate, but if you're one looking for spicy food, you should try their buffalo chicken wrap off the brunch/lunch side of the menu. Decided to stop in for breakfast a little last minute, so we were told it would be a thirty minute wait for two. Which is as to be expected for a smaller restaurant. I don't believe the wait was even the full thirty minutes which was great! We were told by the hostess to choose one of two tables to sit at and a waiter would be right with us. We did wait for a few minutes for a menu and the waiter apparently didn't hear me ask for water when he arrived so he came back five minutes later to ask our drink order. But then another gentleman, Logan came to take our order. So I'm not sure if he was our actual waiter and the other guy was actually a bus boy helping. I ordered the Wings and Waffle and my mom did the single stack of Monkey Business. The wings were small but they were fried well, crispy and good. The waffle was a little too thick for my liking and really wasn't anything special taste wise, pretty mediocre waffle. My mom's food was just alright. The pancakes were gummy so I guess you have to asked for them to be cooked longer. This wasn't our first experience with gummy waffles which is why I ordered waffles instead this time.
