Yesterday was my cheat meal for the week so I decided to have a chicken and pork stick from Grill City in Concord. But first I had to use the little boy's room. When I walked in and a "worker" (someone with a red visor that worked somewhere in the area) walked out of the pooping stall and looked like he was just going to walk out without washing his hands till he saw me. So I continued to go to the pee pee receptacle and do my business. At this point I heard the "worker" wash his hands briefly and noticed him fixing his hair and visor. As I washed my hands, he took some paper towels, dried his hands, and used the same paper towels to wipe off the soles of his shoes.....yeah....He then threw the paper towels away and went off to "work". I followed him to see where he was going, just so I knew not to go there. He seemed to go to another store so I knew I was safe. I stood in line at Grill City, waiting to order my food, drooling over the meat sticks, when I noticed the same guy over the grill checking to see if it was hot. I thought to myself, "OH HELL NAW!!!" My wife would like to have chicken inasal the time was 10:20 AM and the chicken inasal was almost ready so i asked the counter person on how long will it take for the chicken inasal to serve and she said 12:00 PM. My coworker and I like their 3 for 10.99 deal. You get 3 boxes with 2eggs, 2 scoops of garlic rice, and choice of meat in each box. There selection of meat have different costs so you will have to check what is available that day for the deal. You also get free coffee with that meal deal. Very tasty and good portion sizes. Last time my coworker and I shared one box and I took the rest home for my kids. The staff are very friendly and it is cafeteria style. You walk up to the counter and point to what you want. Another item they have that are tasty are the skewers of Terryaki-esque grilled chicken. Also good amount of chicken and cooked well. My kids really enjoy those. It is located in the center space of a shopping mall and so is the seating, so there are no nooks or corners for privacy seating if you're looking for that. We were at the dmv next door when we saw the sign for Valerio's tropical bake shop, Goldilocks, and Jollibee . Being familiar with Filipino establishments in Daly City, we went to check it out. We picked up ensaymadas, senorita bread, and empanadas. Then went into Seafood City Market, boy what a selection of items. Its set up like an indoor mall with food court. We were lured to the front by the savory smell of longanisa and tosino courtesy of Grill City. They had trays of fresh cooked meats and filipino favorites. Yum! We decidede we needed breakfast, like right now!The workers were very helpful and explained to us what everything was. We both opted for breakfast combos , I had the pork adobo and my hubby had the longanisa. Great deal on the combo, comes with generous portion of fluffy garlic rice (unlimited) 2 eggs, a protein, and coffee (unlimited ). His was 3.99 and mine was 4.99. Wow! That's it?? It was so much food, I could only finish half of mine. It's fast, cheap and yummy. Not fancy but it will for sure fill you up. Service was amazing! The folks working there are the nicest people, too. don't worry about the line... the food is worth the wait. a place to get somewhat a home cooked meal that's less than $8, this place is definitely worth it. I ordered the pork liempo combo with soup. the serving was a big. it's good enough for two people. the meal came with 2 scoops of rice and the soup was a big styrofoam container. the only flaw that this restaurant is that the cashier is very slow. I don't understand how they can't get a work flow going on especially during the lunch time rush. read more

When we reached the front they said the wait for the BBQ was longer than 30 minutes and the batch that was almost done cooking was for the customers who were in front of us. What kinda shit is that!! The food is excellent, but kept for hours under ineffective heat lamps so the food is room temperature or only slightly warmer, which is a huge health concern. The county health inspector has not gotten around to rating this place yet The lines are long because you push a tray past every item, school cafeteria style, so if you want only one item from the start of the line you still need to slowly shuffle past everything else to get to the cash register at the end of the line. read more

This is the only convenient Filipino restaurant that's why I still come here. Lately, the food servings are no longer quality. I know that they don't recycle it because i've seen that they throw all the leftovers for the day which makes me cringe since I know there's a lot of people who are dying of hunger. Anyway, that's not what the review is about. For me, their food is overprice for a turo-turo and the portions are not big enough. I like their adobo and bbq but the rest of the food is bleh. Paying for $12 plus tax for a bulalo which is not flavorful plus with only two meat and the other one is mostly bones is not worth it. I also had the bangus sisig which made my tongue and lips itchy. Even for a small cup of soup (broth), they are already charging or sometimes they are just not allowed to give one even you're buying it. They used to have a good pricing but this time i'm no longer satisfied with the portions. If I have any other choice to get a Filipino food within the area, I will not be coming back here. Sadly disappointed with the Service! Placed an order four days in advance for a Saturday pick at 4:30 pm in the afternoon. I even called Saturday morning to be sure my order will be ready. Once I arrived to pick up my order (100 pieces of BBQ), the person who initially took my order said it will be ready in 20 minutes. Well 20 minutes ended up to be 1 1/2 hours!! The problem here is COMMUNICATION!!! The front of the house did NOT communicate to the back of the house of the large order until I arrived to pick up my order!! The supervisor on site, did apologize for the inconvenience and threw in some other grilled items to make up for the lack of service! Went here for lunch with my family and experienced such bad customer service. Was being served by two Filipina ladies at once, which got unorganized and confusing since both would prepare the meals we ordered TWICE. They need to work on the basic skills when working at a food place which are, communication and simply scooping the right food on to the right customer's plate correctly. The service sucks!! 10 minutes waiting to get the food (which are already cooked) then another 10-15 minutes wait to pay!! There's always a long line, you might think that it's very popular but NO, there's a long line because the service is sooo slow specially at lunch time, the staff doesn't care if you waiting for more than 20 minutes, cmon, people are on lunch break and need to go back to work. I witnessed the other day a customer left and gave back the food coz she can't wait anymore to pay at the cashier. One of the staff said it's ok, really? Fix the the problem and don't get upset if paying customers complained, do something and improve your customer service instead of talking back to customers, that's bad for business. I came here on a weekend. It was busy as usual. There were only 2 employees! One is getting the order and the other is the cashier. Not to disrespect the employees, they are not that young anymore so the service was quite slow. Also, they seem to be trying but because they are under staff, they can't catch up with the orders. There was a long line. People were started leaving the line due to disappointments. Extremely slow! I blame the management of Grill City. They don't staff their business well. I often shop for seafood at Seafood City market, and love the freshness, variety, price and service. So, today I decided to give the Grill a try and leave the cooking to the pros. Big mistake. Pompano is my favorite fish for grilling, so that's what I ordered. The display of cooked pompano stacked like cord wood in the display case was rather off-putting, but I thought, don't be an American cultural chauvinist, it's the taste that matters. After I ordered I perused the side dish possibilities. There aren't many. Naked salad, some cabbage-like vegetable entre and something that looked like fried rice with unidentified dark particles in it. I pointed and said," I'd like the rice too". The response was a really curt and disdainful, "That's not rice, it's soup.". I looked at it again. There was a small pool of liquid at the near end of the tray, about 4 tablespoon's worth. Not like any soup I'd ever seen. "You want soup?". I said OK. Turned out the "soup" provided was not the "soup" I was pointing at. Some times you just can't win. The server ladled some soup from behind the counter into a half pint Styrofoam container, and added a large dollop of rice to the fish in my plastic plate. Since the meal wasn't evolving in the manner I had expected, I decided to stick with a Styrofoam cup of lukewarm water as my beverage. The repast As I said, I love pompano, I make a little aluminum pan just big enough for a couple fish, add a generous amount of butter, a dash of olive oil and minced garlic to taste. Put it in the backyard grill for 10 minutes and you have the basics of a quick, easy, inexpensive, nutritious and delicious lunch. Grill City version? Not so much. The skin of the fish (one of the smaller representatives of its noble species) was markedly darker than what I was accustomed to, and my first bite (and aroma) told me why. The fish had been placed on a bare grill over a hot gas flame way too long. It was, shall we say, just slightly burned (if there is such a thing as "slightly burned"). The skin had no other flavor than charred flesh. Below the charred skin, the fish tasted like classic pompano, firm, sweet and white in color. It almost broke my heart to think that this fine little animal had given up its life to come to this ignoble end. The rice? How can rice be messed up in a rice cooker? It can, oh, yes it can. The rice had the consistency of overcooked oatmeal. The grains were nearly indistinguishable to eye and were almost inedible. I suspect the rice had be sitting in a steamer for many hours. The "soup" was some kind of broth (chicken, fish, who knows?) with a few strands of rice noodles at the bottom with unidentifiable vegetable-like flakes beneath them. It was served so heart I almost lost the skin off my upper mouth. The whole disaster came to $10.36. The price of a lesson learned. Want Filipino food for dinner? My advice, get a couple of recipes and cook it yourself. read more
