Review #074 - 2017 I've walked pass this place so many times because it's an express type restaurant and I'm very picky about my food being on display prior to my consuming it. But sometimes, when you really want to try something, you just have to bite the bullet and pray that you don't get food poisoning. Thank goodness the items that I've purchased on both occasions were good, except for maybe one item out of the four. I ordered two of their combo platter to go last week and my son said that his pork liempo was too salty, even though mine was perfectly fine. Maybe he just had a salty slab. I really liked the pork sinigang. It had the perfect balance of sour and salty, and I am very picky when it comes to sour soup. Unfortunately, when I went back on Monday, they didn't have it available. I guess they switch out their menu daily or something. The one item I didn't like was the pork dinuguan. It was just too fatty and sweet for my taste. I tried to order the lechon kawali, but the lady told me that it was only available during the weekend so I was kind of disappointed. Fortunately, when I came back on Monday, they did have a few slabs of the lechon available so I got a pound of it for $13.99/lb. My son really liked it. He said he prefers it over the liempo. I guess I would have to agree. Service is ok depending on who is working, but I will definitely come back and order a tray of their lechon when we have a family gathering. read more

This is very unfortunate that I have to leave this review, but it has to be done. We've been eating at this place for a few years now. We had a very unpleasant experience with our order. Three weeks ago, we ordered 10 Skewers of the Pork BBQ (It was buy 4, get one free). Three of us ended up getting food poisoning, and at first we couldn't figure out where it came from. It was horrible. On May 7th, we decided to order the BBQ Pork again. First off, when the meat was being cooked and getting to the point where it is possibly burning, the cook would take a glass of water and pour it over the meat. It was under cooked. Second, when the meat was already cooked, he put some sauce over it with a cooking brush which he was also using on raw meat during the cooking process (The same brush! Think about that!). From my understanding, this sauce is supposed to be put on the meat prior to cooking it, or at least during the cooking process to add some flavor. This is visible in plain sight. Nothing to be proud of. Third, OHHHH MYYY GODDDD!!!!! It was not meat at all. It looked like small cuts or scraps and not actual pieces of meat like in the pictures. It/'s a win/win situation for the owner. Fourth of all, for $4.00 per Skewer, that's fine and seems appropriate, but not for scraps. Fifth of all, we had food poisoning again!!! My stomach is hurting just typing this. I would not recommend this place to anyone. We are not accepting any of your excuses because we read the reviews for your restaurant already and it seems that you are having similar issues again and again. You guys need to fix this problem and care more about what you're doing and how you're serving the public. You need to speak with your cooks, and your staff to make sure the food is being handling appropriately. This could be a complaint to the California Department of Public Health. read more

The food is so good when it's fresh. I've never had a bad experience with my meat. I guess if you're worried about not getting a fresh piece you could ask for something off the grill. My only issue with Grill City is the prices. They've been a bit expensive for portion sizes compared to price for a while. But now since they updated their look, they've cut side dish sizes by half while keeping the prices the same. I'm not sure if I knew much about Filipino food before I visited this little food mall but now I certainly know a little bit more! Grill City is one of the food places inside Seafood City. They offer grilled seafood, chicken, and pork. I liked the squid, pipino fish, talapia, and the BBQ chicken skewers. I came early afternoon, and the spread was plentiful (which is what made me choose to eat here instead of the neighboring establishments). Lots of grilled fishes to choose from, and mountains of grilled pork and chicken. My major beef with this place is that a "value" meal consists of ONE bbq stick, two scoops of rice, and if you want something hearty like another entree you have to pay more. That just doesn't seem like a value at $8+. Pardon my snobbiness but I can get two skewers and two scoops of rice for about $5 in Daly City and its just as good if not better than the meat they are serving here. The Kare-Kare was good but I made the mistake of eating it with the bagoong and that wasn't a good idea. I'm used to the bright pink stuff in a jar, not the dark purple shmutz they gave me here. The staff never greet me and stay quiet far to be able to hear my order cuz i was standing right in front of those good looking BBQ window and she loves to stand over the soup n salad window. Believe the hype... The long lines exist for a reason. Went there on a Saturday afternoon and they had just run out of BBQ. Why?! Because it's super good and people come out in droves to get their BBQ on a stick. Prices are fair and they are not skimpy on the meat. 4 pieces for $9.. 6 for $12. Came back to this place on the request of a friend. We had to go to the nearby DMV and we chose to eat at this place. I have to say that the food is much improved. I guess someone realized that they had to improve things to keep their business. No more mediocre food. I've also tried their food at a friend's party which they catered. Bad customer service. I have been coming here for groceries at Seafood city and ordering food from Grill City. First call i made, older lady answered and told me "this is not Grill city, just call again and they will answer!" And then she hung up before i even get to tell her that they only have one phone number/line and that she has to transfer the call to Grill City. I called again, no one answered, tried couple more times and finally got answered, different lady this time, she knows what to do, transferred me to Grill city, after being on hold for a while, it got answered but then hung up. I called again, for the fifth or sixth time, told the lady if she could please again connect me coz they hung up. She then said with an attitude "ok, hold on, it's busy that's why!" And im back to the hold line. I gave up. Such bad customer service discouraged me to place my orders here from now on, at least be nice about explaining the situation instead of trying to get rid of the customer on the phone. This experience makes me not want to support the business here any longer. Will surely warn other people about it too. read more

I stumbled upon this place around 1pm on a Saturday and the line was quite long. It moved a bit slowly, but it's worth it if you're looking for some grilled goodness. Thought about buying food at the Streetfood section of Grill City. I picked up some supplies first from the grocery store. I saw my husband with a smirk and shaking his head. The person manning the booth was in the restroom urinal with his food handling gloves on. Finished his business and left - WITHOUT WASHING HIS HANDS AND WAS STILL WEARING THE SAME GLOVES. He got back at the station wearing the same gloves while he used the restroom. A fresh tray of food came and he used the same gloves to peel the plastic wrap from the tray and set it on the steamer. This guy never took off his apron and gloves while he peed. Did not wash his hands and works at a food station???!!! He needs to just be a janitor so he doesnt handle food! Came here with my parents and I got excited cuz they had silog but that excitement was cut short when I found out that they're out of majority of the breakfast items. They were out of garlic rice and tocino so I decided to get tapa and luncheon meat. Both of the meats were way too dry, the grilled squid we ordered was cold and it wasn't chopped up in pieces all the way. The mango juice was okay but the kalamansi juice that my Dad ordered was fresh and he said it was good. The grilled Salmon steak was the most decent item out of everything we ordered. The customer service was okay, a bit slow and even when my mom was speaking Tagalog, they still couldn't understand and had to repeat it when she was ordering extra food items and just kept telling us that it's an extra charge. Umm, yes, we know it's extra and yes, we are willing to pay so add it to our orders please. Most of our food were cold and they had no way of heating it up. Their food is good but their customer service needs needs a lot of work. Not only are they unable to explain what their food is their non-Tagalog speaking customers, their order accuracy leaves much to be desired. They got my dad's order wrong and he speaks perfect Tagalog. The menu also seems to be overwhelming. There's too much stuff on it that it's hard to make a choice. The order taking process is also confusing. (Like what qualifies as a meal, what's a separate order? Which one comes with soup?) Grill City is reminiscent of a turo-turo (literal English translation: point-point), which is the Philippines' original version of fast food. Turo-turos have an array of home-cooked meals which the customer then point to (hence the name), and this is the system that Grill City chose to employ. I love them for this! Their food is pretty close to what I would expect from a Filipino household and their offerings are pretty great (hello, laing!). I am also glad that their price is pretty reasonable and they serve you a lot of food (which is kind of rare for a Filipino restaurant) - a meal comes with your choice of Filipino-style barbecue, another side dish, soup (sinigang, which I highly recommend to anyone just starting Filipino food and want to go beyond the staple of adobo, lumpia, or pancit) and rice. The staff are also very pleasant and helpful. My only criticism is that their menu is a bit confusing, but this is something I can deal with. I will be a regular. read more

Sadly I didn't enjoy the food. I understand Filipino food consist of a lot of oils or fat but I didn't expect everything in it was actually Fat. My parents cook Dinuguan ( chocolate meat) all the time and I understand there are some fat in it, but literally the whole bowl was made out of fat. Some of the things on the menu was okay. The assembly line was a hassle you have to keep passing your plate back and forth to different servers who would eventually scoop your choice on to your plate. So overall food was Okay. read more
