I didn't particularly love the truffle fries, next time I'd probably get sweet potato fries. My fiancé got the beer burger and she said it was good as well, and the beer cheese is apparently made in house. She also upgraded to truffle fries. My family and I visited Grill Marks on a Saturday around 1 PM. We had about a 20 minute wait to be seated. Our food was hot and service was good, but I likely wouldn't rush to come back. The restaurant wasn't incredibly busy for a Saturday, but there was still a 20 minute wait for our group of 6. We had four adults and two children in our group. We did note that while we waited, the table that we eventually sat at was never occupied. I'm not exactly sure how the restaurant handles their wait and seating, but we did observe it to be confusing. We were third in line with two parties of two in front of us on the wait list, but noted that a party of three that hadn't yet checked in was immediately seated. It didn't appear to be "first come first served". Our party ordered drinks, milkshakes, two kid's meals, and entrees. Among our entrees were sliders, a burger, wings, and the hot honey chick plate. Everyone was fine with their food and there was absolutely nothing wrong with anything, but nothing was incredibly impressive either. It was just "regular" food. Service was excellent. Our server was prompt, checked on us frequently, and was very personable. He was the best part of our meal. Overall, while we weren't overly impressed, we weren't disappointed either. Grill Marks was nothing special but it also wasn't a bad experience either. It was very "middle of the road" for our group. We got the loaded fries for an appetizer, I got the beer essential burger with sweet potato fries and my husband got the firehouse burger. Appetizer was delicious, my husband really enjoyed his burger. I took a bite and it was definitely firehouse, very spicy. I was kind of disappointed with my burger, it was very bland at every layer. I had to add salt, pepper and mayo for it to have any flavor. I ended up dipping it in ranch just to power through eating it. The star of the show was definitely the sweet potato fries and the orange cinnamon dipping sauce, I want to put that sauce on everything it was so good. This placed was set up nicely with a large area for outdoor seating and plenty of seating inside. I had reserved a table through Yelp while my friend and I found parking. When we arrived there was a decent crowd outside on the patio. The hostee said that she had to clean up a table and then proceeded to just wipe the stuff from the table onto the floor but we immediately got a table. I was confused because it definitely wasn't crowded enough to not have clean tabl. The menu had decent options, not as many as I'd expect for a burger joint. I decided to order the buffalo chicken sandwich with a side of onion rings. It came out on an oily brioche bun and fries. The waitress quickly corrected my order and brought out onion rings. My onion rings were nothing but thin strips on onion with an unseasoned, oily batter. It did however come with a nice sauce for sipping. The chicken strips had absolutely no flavor even though it was covered in buffalo sauce. The part that got me was the fact that they charge $2 to make your burger/sandwich a meal but then charge almost another $2 for onion rights.... I'm giving this place 3 stars due to the fact that the speed of service was great and the waitress did a great job. If I were to return I would probably just stick to the burger selection. First time here. Ordered a basic cheeseburger, supposedly kind of their thing. Opened it to add ketchup and this is what the burger looked like 1/2" of empty bun all the way around. And no, this isn't a huge bun, it is just a slider sized patty, maybe a little over 2", on a regular hamburger bun. I asked the server if this was typical as I hadn't been here before. He said that they do not make their patties (this place advertised as a burger place), this is the way that they get them in and they are all the same. He said I could remake it but it would look the same. So, I went with it, and the patty was also lacking in taste, really could have used some kind of seasoning. I went to Grill Marks with some work mates on a limited time restraint, however was looking forward to it because I am a bit of a hamburger connoisseur. We were, however running out of time (our own fault) so asked for to go boxes and would take the food back to the office with us. We also asked for drink refills as we were all empty and hadn't seen the waitress since she took our order. It took about 15 minutes before the waitress returned to check on us, without drink refills or to go boxes. We told her to nix the boxes as we had already eaten, but would like the check and some drink refills. We waited another 15 minutes, while watching the waitress never make it back to our area. Finally, because we were already ten mins late back to work, we walked up to the cashier area to pay our checks. We thought this would help speed up the process and help the waitress from having to move back and forth to the check out station and the table. Unfortunately, while checking out, we heard the manager (or who we assumed was the manager) come up and tell the waitress that "it was ok, we were just being rude by coming up to the station and not waiting at the table". I give this restaurant a one star and will most definitely NOT be going back. Service was non existent and borderline horrendous, the prices were exorbitant, and the burger was really not as good as it should have been based on the price. read more

We showed up at about 7:45-:7:50 on a Sunday thinking that the restaurant was open until 9. The hours are not correct on Yelp or google. They close at 8 on Sundays. However the manager seeing us waiting for a table kindly offered us the full menu and gave us 10% off the bill for having to wait and the closing time confusion. Hats off to the manager and the staff at Grill Marks Columbia. They could have easily said we are closed but they stayed open and helped us putting the "whipped cream" on our wonderful weekend. read more

Since they chose to keep the exterior door (a garage door) open, the hot air and humidity came right on it. It was uncomfortable and stuffy. To clarify, we were seated inside-- in the back. My fiancee asked our server "how big are you hamburger patties?" Our server answered: "Well the picture is realistic." So she tried to clarify, "is it 1/4 or 1/3 or 1/2 lb?" He told us, "I'm not sure. I wasn't given that information" Later, because I was hot and sweating (literally), I asked for a Diet Coke. He said "We have Diet Pepsi, but it's been running flat lately. People have complained. Can I get you something else?" So I asked for anything diet. So he clarified, that the restaurant didn't have ANY diet drinks. ..... Okay. I don't blame the server for the issues. And I tipped him accordingly because he worked hard to keep us happy. Bison burger was $13.99 and the freak shake is $10.00, they do have a happy hour but these items are not included. You only need 1 order of the chowder fries for 2 people, portion size is huge. I was super excited about my holiday shake, so sinfully sweet, nope I couldnt eat it all!! Its the indulging holidays right, I wont be having another one anytime soon, Lol... I have come here for a while. But this time is embarrassing for this place. Not only did the manager argue with us over the service, but also told us we were incorrect in multiple things. So where to start. Called in a reservation. 12 people. Show up on time. Table isn't ready. They just threw the menus on the table in a stack with the silverware in a stack as well. We sat down. Order some drinks, alcohol and regular. Regular drinks took 7 or so minutes to come out. The alcohol took over 25 minutes to get. 2 beers(can and a bottle), a Bloody Mary, and an Old Fashion. We ordered in the mean while. 30 minutes later food started to come out. Key word started to come out. Over the next 20 minutes the rest of our food came out with the exception of the a salad and burger. But wait it gets better. One of our burgers was supposed to be a lettuce wrapped burger. Burger is brought out, and we are then advised that they are out of lettuce. All the burgers were over cooked. I really have no words for this. It's truly sad such a great place has gone down hill. The Columbia location has disappointed us the last several times we have come. The quality is nowhere close to the Greenville location. Our fried pickles were lukewarm and soggy. We sent them back. The replacements were much better, but we shouldn't need replacements. Our entrees we similarly lukewarm. My burger was also flavorless and could not be rescued by adding salt or other condiments. I was craving a good burger and was recommended Grill Marks. I went early and it was not busy at all. The bartender was very attentive. I ordered the chowderhead fries and was highly disappointed- the corn chowder that was on top was just flavorful and had quite a bit of potatoes in it. So I basically got potatoes on top of my fries. I ordered a medium burger with bacon and pulled pork on top - I get it it's my fault it's really hard to find good pulled pork unless you go to a bbq joint. The bacon was on point but the burger was cooked to well and the pork had little flavor. Again the service was very good and the milkshake was on point.
