Very upscale, intimate spot for delightful cocktails and dinner. Truffle arancini made me rethink this dish; so much more special than usual. Lobster bisque was rich and full of lobster for a change. Best steak frites I've ever had, friends had salmon & garganelli and loved both. Millionaire chocolate cake was my birthday treat with a side of chocolate truffles; I'd go back just for the cake. Aramis our server was charming and attentive, if a bit leisurely, and we made it to our show just in the nick of time. Will be back.

This restaurant is located on the 21st floor on top of the JW Marriot which happens to be the entrance of the Autograph Marriott Hotel. The doorman greeted me, then escorted me to the tables. He kindly toured the restaurant and proceeded to let me know. All of the items that on the menu were curated and service was impeccable. I was only there for happy hour. I ended up going with the crab cake and a glass of wine. I was very impressed with the service the bartender gave me along with great tips for places to go in Chicago. I definitely highly recommend this place.

Jeanine was our server and she did a fantastic job. She was kind, attentive, and helped us pick a great selection of drinks. We ordered the filets, side broccoli, macaroni & cheese, & Brussels sprouts. Everything was absolutely delicious and to die for. We left happy campers. The experience here was flawless. We will certainly return.

Most hotel restaurants are generic and provide food simply for convenience. This is not one of them. The sitting area, bar and dining area are nicely decorated and furnished, a slight notch below higher end steak houses (like STK, Capitol Grill). Most patrons, like myself, were dressed business casual. Hostess was welcoming and friendly, and water order taken and filled immediately. The server was eager to answer any questions and offer suggestions. When I couldn't decide between two soups, he offered a taste of one, without prompting. I ordered the lobster bisque - on the saltier side but delicious flavor. Not too much sherry, and the lobster pieces were the perfect size for multiple spoonfuls. Just wish there were more. Wedge salad with grilled shrimp added - crisp lettuce and generous tangy blue cheese, creamy dressing and smoky bacon pieces. The grape tomatoes had a burst of sweetness and the shrimp was grilled perfectly. My favorite part of the meal came in the complimentary bread basket: a pop over. Light, crusty with a thin chewiness inside. I could've eaten a whole basket of those as a meal.

Thanksgiving buffet

Came for the thanksgiving day buffet dinner. Was a very cute and classy venue in the La Salle Hotel. Attentive black tie service. The buffet had a carving table, seafood cart, and tons of sides and desserts. It was delicious. The drinks were tasty. Kid friendly options too. Very nice time w the family.

Service was amazing. We came for a graduation celebration with ~10ppl. The room is gorgeous and our server was phenomenal. The food was ok but has gotten noticeably lower quality for many of the dishes that were on the menu previously. Like lobster thermidor? But with gnocchi? No, terrible, flavorless and not lobster thermidor. There was little flavor, none of the traditional fixings that come with lobster thermidor, and the little tiny chopped pieces of lobster was definitely not what I received the last time I ordered this at this restaurant.

Steak Frites Dinner Potato Puree
Tamia L.

Our waitress, April was attentive just a little standoffish and in a hurry. My meal, wedge salad was pretty good, crumbles a bit sharp/puckering. Steak frites was set on mashed potatoes and outside the sauce the steak was bland. My dinner companion ordered shrimp de jonghe and twice baked potatoe.Which upon eating the potato discovered it had an off flavor and discovered corner of it was black. Our waitress and the manager excused it away first indicating it was burned but that's not what it was. In the end an apology was given and the meal was simply comped. Didn't take a picture of that

Mac and cheese. Delicious, but about the same as other places.
Jaron R.

Everything here was delicious from the bread selection to the New York Steak, to the potatoes and the Mac & cheese. All very good. The only problem was the steak came not cooked enough. Ordered medium but got medium rare. But I sent it back to cook a little more and it came back perfect. The service was great. Lots of people making sure you have a great experience. I would eat here again.

Chicken

Irene at the host stand was so welcoming and warm. She made me and my service dog feel right at home. She even made sure we BOTH had water. Nate at the bar made great recommendations. The Caesar salad is delicious - very light and citrus-forward. The wine selection is amazing. Prisoner company - the famous blend and the zin (Saldo). If you prefer heavier Pinots, they have Lyric by Etude by the bottle. Roasted chicken was like Thanksgiving on a plate. Two thumbs up!

I have to give it up to the hotels that serve food and do it perfectly. Grill on 21 did not disappoint my friend and I during a nice lunch for restaurant week. (Missing cocktail photos) We arrived super early before the lunch rush and thank God we did. The staff - a thousand hand claps - they were quick, attentive, assertive and knowledgeable. They paid attention and kept an eye on us. Each time I finished a dish, there was someone nearby to grab it. The food was great. The lobster bisque had actual pieces of lobster and lemme tell ya ,.. they weren't stingy. The pieces were so large I cut them to even them out as I ate. The bisque was thick and creamy. The flavors were there. Oh! My friend and I didn't need the salt or pepper the entire visit. That's a first for me Poke bowl- fresh raw tuna and salmon. Couldn't miss it. It was on the sweet side for me but I appreciated the portion size. I was able to finish it and still feel energetic and not weighed down. The salmon was a large portion. Usually restaurants give thin or skinny slices of salmon and attempt to ration you out with starches or veggies. Not here. They also gave butternut squash and sweet potatoes. I loved the variety of veggies given to elevate the flavor of the perfectly crisped salmon. My heavens honey pannacotta did what it needed to do! Mmmkay! Very rich and didn't taste like gelatin. They even sprinkled pistachio on top and that's a winner for me. I will be returning. Now I know my money won't be spent in vain.

Steak and Eggs Brunch
Joneice B.

Grill on 21 is a beautiful restaurant located on the 21st floor of the La Salle hotel. Location is right on the edge of the financial district. We decided to come here for our last meal of restaurant week because we wanted to try something different. I wish we would've looked at coming here for dinner because the menu seems divine. For starters we got the lobster bisque, which came with old Bay season croutons. The lobster bisque was really good and you could actually see chunks of lobster included in the soup. For brunch we got the steak and eggs, which is included potatoes and toast. The steak was good and was served with a delicious chimchuiri sauce. The last item in our brunch for restaurant week was cheesecake. Overall just a really nice set up and well worth the money spent. I really like this restaurant and would come back for dinner for sure or even to bring people for drinks that are from out of town. I like that not only was the restaurant located up high with a view but there were several seating areas there was a library, area a full bar, and a big party area. Our server was also very nice I believe his name was Rory.

Grilled Octopus. Best dish!
Jonathan U.

Went here on a friday night and this place was amazing. When we first walked in, it was quite empty at 8pm so we had some iffy thoughts but this place turned out to be a hidden gem. It was also very quiet when we walked in but thankfully music started playing around 8:30pm. About the food, the grilled Octopus was absolutely amazing. The char, salt was perfect and it was very comparable to some of the best ones we've ate in Greece etc. The lamb chops and ribs were also great on top of the drinks, making this dinner one to remember. Our server was really nice too. Highly recommend!

Wow! So happy I finally got to come here. They have recently started accepting some reservations…read moreand I was lucky enough to get one. I understand why they are famous for their burgers. I had the single cheeseburger and it lived up to the hype. I learned that the single burger is actually a double and the double is actually a triple. I was recommended to add an egg and bacon to the burger and I'm glad I did. Each bite was a glorious burst of flavor. The bacon is epic. Thick juicy slices. The cheeseburger was perfect. I didn't need additional condiments and that never happens for me. The fries were good too and came with a delicious aioli. For beverages, I loved my Arnold Palmer. I also tried a cocktail--the Long Island Iced Coffee. It was pretty strong. I added a shot of bourbon cream to it and that sweetened it up and made it perfect for me. Unfortunately, I didn't have room for dessert. Cute restaurant. Cozy inside. They have an outdoor patio as well. If you don't have a reservation, be prepared to wait. Excellent food. Excellent service. Jennifer took great care of me and made great suggestions. It's pricy but it's worth it.

The process of getting seated through a busy period, and the service throughout was excellent. But as often happens with me, the food didn't live up to the hype. My wife and I were picking up my brother and his son from O'Hare at around 10 am on a Saturday. We had dinner plans with our uncle, but had not planned anything in between. The flight came in on time, and once confirmed we all had the time, my brother suggested going to Chicago to try Au Cheval. He knew about their location LV, but none of us had tried their original location in Chicago. So we drove into Chicago, arriving at the restaurant at 11 (it opens at 10am). There was a check-in stand set-up outside, where someone was taking names/phone numbers to put on the waiting list. We were quoted a 45 minute wait, and got the text to hurry back after about 30 minutes. There was a line to put your name down on the list, so we skipped that by going right in. The friendly hostess seated us in a booth, with a nice view of the kitchen where they were making the burgers in mass. The waitress explained that a single burger meant two patties (each patty is 4 oz, so basically a half pound burger), and a double meaning three. My brother and his son both ordered a double cheeseburger ($19.99 each), and I got a single with added sunny side up egg ($21.48). I wanted my wife to be able to take a bite, so asked for everything to be on the side (sauce, dill pickle slices, and grilled onion bits). We also ordered french fries ($8.99), cooked in duck fat. In the meanwhile, followed a fellow yelpers suggestion and got two Allagash Whites ($9 each) for me and my nephew. It's a really good beer that I've had many times during happy hour, and goes great with rich, greasy food. My wife got something else: the General Janes Chicken, which is their version of Korean Fried Chicken ($24.98). She enjoyed it (the coating was still crispy, and the sauce had that pronounced kochujang flavor that we like). Everything is a la carte here (except for the complementary pickle spear with burgers), so she shared in the ordered fries. Food came out together and was served hot. There is a mandatory 3.25% surcharge, and payment is taken at the table. As mentioned, service was excellent throughout. To be honest, I'm not the right person to judge a burger like this (I like it backyard style, with a lot of lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles...and mayo/ketchup). But my brother and nephew are (they have tried many, many burgers all across the world, and don't like too much toppings on their burger), and they said the burger was just OK for them. I liked the frites (cooked in duck fat)...very light in color, but still crispy on the outside. However, nobody else really ate them, saying they weren't great. It's unusual for me to be the least critical after dining, but I'm sure it had something to do with the observation that I didn't have to pay for it (since it was my brother's treat).

Be sure to make your reservation in advance because you will not be seated without one due to its popularity among both locals and tourists. We come here every time we visit Chicagoat. The food is absolutely amazing. We had the following dishes: 1. Roasted Pig Face Straw fries topped with roasted pork face, a sunny egg, and a collection of magical sauces that somehow transform into pure comfort when mixed together. I don't even know exactly what's in the sauce, but I don't need to know. This dish is divine and an absolute must-order. The crispy fries, rich and tender pork that practically melts apart, silky egg yolk, and savory sauce create a dish that is indulgent, comforting, and ridiculously delicious 2. Green Beans Not featured in the photo because we ate them too fast. Enough said. Get them. 3. Goat Mousse The menu changes periodically, so this was a new dish for us. The goat mousse was creamy, rich, and surprisingly light, served with sweet jam, crumpets, crackers, pickles, and giardiniera. The contrast of sweet, tangy, creamy, crunchy, and savory flavors creates a little flavor party in your mouth. Every bite can be customized differently, which made this dish especially fun to share. 4. Pork Belly & Watermelon Perfectly cooked pork belly with a crisp exterior and rich, savory flavor, balanced beautifully by refreshing watermelon cubes and fresh greens. I don't know how healthy it is, but we aren't here for health. We're here for flavor. We're here for comfort. We're here to be punched in the soul with food that we will never forget! The sweet, juicy watermelon cuts through the richness of the pork belly and creates a combination that sounds unusual but works incredibly well. 5. Halibut with Thai Sprouts A beautifully cooked piece of halibut served with Thai sprouts, miso marcona butter, and blueberry fish sauce. Yes, blueberry fish sauce. And yes, it works. The fish was flaky, buttery, and perfectly cooked. The savory umami from the miso butter paired with the subtle sweetness and acidity from the fish sauce created a combination that was balanced, and memorable yet surprising to me. The restaurant itself has a dark, energetic atmosphere and is always packed. The tables are definitely close together, but given how popular the restaurant is, I understand why they maximize the space. Absolutely recommend coming here. Your tummies won't regret it.

Unfortunately this time the food was not hitting. We ordered: - goat empanada - one of my favorite back in the day but this time, it literally tasted like goat version of a ragu and my friend said it tasted like any other beef empanada out there. Nothing special this time around - string beans - surprisingly my favorite out of the entire meal with the crunch and various flavors and textures - pork shank - I did not like this. The pork was incredibly tender but it seemed like there were too many conflicting flavors and nothing seemed to shine. The pickled onions conflicted against the overly sweet pork. It was better by itself but we were told to make our own "tacos" with the pita or lettuce and combine everything The service was great which is why I gave this place 3* instead of a 2* for the food. Unfortunately I will not be coming back. It now makes sense why this time it was far easier to make a reservation than last time.

Since this was our first time dining here (my son has been here many times), we took a bit of time trying to decide what to order. We decided to try the Smoked Ribs, Pike fish and chips, New England Lobster Roll and the Warm Parker House rolls. Our waitress asked if we wanted the appetizers to come first - since we were sharing we said to bring it out whenever it's ready i.e. no specific order. The ribs and fish and chips entrees were the first to be served. We had also asked for some ice for the table. We waited quite a while before we inquired about the bread and the Lobster roll. Our waitress at this point had not come to check on us - it's about 15-20 minutes since our food arrived. She also forgot about our ice request (We never did get it!). The fish and chips were delicious - crispy on the outside and tender flaky fish on the inside. It was also not greasy and tasted delicious. The chips (fries) were also well done; howeveer, it was a bit on the salty side. None the less it was delicious. Took a while to get some ketchup and "tabasco" (they do not have tabasco but did have crystal hot sauce). The smoked ribs was excellent. Nice smoky flavor and meat was tender. Portions were very generous. As to our missing food order, she was apologetic and informed us that the Lobster roll was made in another kitchen and she had to go and check on it. Not sure what happened there but the rolls turned up really fast. The parkerhouse rolls, on the other hand, did not show up. We inquired again and she was surprised and said "You still want the bread?" and went ahead and placed the order. We surmised that she probably forgot about the order in the first place! The lobster roll was delicious. It came with chips not fries. The chips were also salty. The Parkerhouse rolls finally turned up with the black truffle honey & grass fed butter (5/5). The butter was sooo good - well worth the wait. We were rather stuffed by this time but managed to eat 2 of the 4 rolls! Took the other 2 home. The restaurant manager came over to our table and was very apologetic and informed us that she took care of our table as she felt that the service we received today did not reflect their usual level of service (My son also commented that he's never had poor service here). I appreciated this gesture and feel that restaurants should own up when they fail to provide the service expected at a reputable restaurant. For this reason, I did not ding them any stars. The food was really good and it was unfortunate we had subpar service when we visited. The restaurant was cozy - they have a few outside tables but we sat inside. There are booths as well as tables. The tables are a little closer and the seats are very comfortable. Would definitely come back and try other items on the menu next time we are in Chicago!
