I went here for my birthday dinner Sunday January 21st. Now we arrived 30 minutes prior to closing and offered to leave however they said it was not a problem. To be honest we should've just left. We were the only ones there besides the staff. Now to start off I asked for a coke (coca-cola) and the waitress said they don't serve coke. Ok fine I ordered a regular margarita on the rocks. (I really should have taken pics). One of my friends said what do you have that's like sprite? Oh they have sprite and Pepsi but not coke which makes no sense considering sprite is a coke product and coke and Pepsi are rival companies so make that make sense. My margarita looked like mango juice, I took ONE SIP and it tasted like lime juice!! So of course I told them it's nasty and take it off the bill and I took the pepsi instead. Now margaritas is my go-to and I know exactly how they taste. Now I guess it was the manager who came over asking how things were which I was already annoyed at the experience however he offered to make another one and I declined. Why would I want them to waste alcohol to mess up another one if the first one was terrible. Now the food. One friend got the fish tacos, fried. No flavor at all. Dry and disgusting. My other friend got a bean and cheese burrito. Flavorless. How you mess that up I have no clue. I got one of the combos that came with two cheese enchiladas and 4 flautas. Enchiladas the cheese like was not meant for an enchilada. It was hard and the sauce tasted like it came out a can, not good at all, the flautas looked like egg rolls and tasted like boiled water. Also I told the waitress charros and she still gave me Refried. This place is afraid of seasoning! Like it was terrible. Would have been better off going to taco cabana. That should tell you something. I'm not from Austin but if I ever go back I will not go to this place at all! And I honestly feel like either the employees wrote good reviews or the people that did don't know what Mexican let alone Texmex is. If I could give 0 stars trust me I would. read more

I've been searching for good Tex-Mex in Lakeway for years. This place is delicious. We had the roasted chicken enchiladas with tomatillo sauce and the stuffed fried avocado. We were greeted and sat immediately and our server was knowledgeable about our questions about the menu. It was quiet in here around lunch but the bar looks like a fun area to get happy hour. My wife and I went there tonight we ordered 2 of the #5. Simply beef taco and cheese enchilada rice and beans. The bartender was great working his but off, while employees about 5-6 others stood around the hostess table doing nothing. They should have been helping to bring the food out to tables in a timely manner. 20 minutes the bartender goes back and gets our food. The plate was cold. The enchiladas were cold and tasted like rubber. Couldn't even chew them. The crispy taco was soggy from sitting. Rice and beans ice cold. Very Very disappointed. Been here before and was good. Very sad about the food here. They obviously do not make much of anything from scratch. They are using process products for their enchilada sauce. Me and my husband have to let the world know that Grill On Tex-Mex specifically at the Lakeway, Tx. location right across the street from the Lexis car dealership in a strip center in the corner of center is top notch in Mexican Food and service. The first time we stopped in we ordered chicken fajita nachos and whatever else came on it and was delicious and gorgeously prepared. The second time we went to eat dinner and ordered chicken fajitas and the rest that came with the meal and it too was delicious and gorgeously presented. The meals are priced well and you get good portion size. The owner and staff are so friendly and always have a welcoming smile to await their customers. This restaurant has the healthiest prepared fresh non greasy food we've ever seen or eaten and salsas are beautifully prepared and hot and steaming when it is served to you. No limp or soggy fixings here! Everything fresh and crispy in texture that is suppose to be like that. (Example) Lettuce etc. They make their own fresh corn and flour tortillas. They do order their chips from somewhere else. The dinnerware is colorful and inviting to the eye and makes the food beautifully presented to the customer. The wait time for drinks was immediately and after ordering our food, the wait time was reasonable and perfectly spot on with what a customer would expect is the right amount of time to receive your food after ordering. This restaurant has plenty of seating and the noise level is normal and comfortable to where you can still have conversation with the waiters and with the people you come with to enjoy your meal. You will truly totally enjoy your dining experience with the beautiful art work which is displayed on the walls of the restaurant too! The restaurant and bar area are a contemporary modern feel with a TV in the bar area. Also a decorative garden viewing area outside the window while you dine towards the back of the restaurant. They also have a banquet room upstairs that seats 50 people for occasions and also an outdoor covered eating area at the outside front of the restaurant before coming into the restaurant. Also, should ever it be so crowded that you have to wait outside due to rain or heat there is plenty of covered places you can stand to wait due to this place being in a strip center with individual businesses and enough parking in lot combined with these businesses to share. Everything is spotless and new at this place. The entire restaurant was torn out when bought and the kitchen is all new and everything else. This restaurant has been here like a little over a year and we have driven past it at least a thousand times and never knew it was there till that one day my husband noticed it and we gave it a try. So glad we did!!! It's by far the very best Mexican food in Lakeway and surrounding areas. It can't be beat or matched!!! Just letting y'all know we are both Texans and know what good Mexican food is suppose to taste like and it's unmatched flavor and seasoning to the food. We're both picky people that don't settle for anything but the best when it comes to where we eat and dine and we know what it takes to be considered the best. Don't wait another minute to give this place a try! We feel that you won't be disappointed and that it will be your favorite Mexican restaurant too!!! Yesterday, we celebrated my Father-in-Laws 81st birthday at Grill on Tex Mex. The experience was a great one. From the atmosphere to the food, everything was perfect. Jubilea, our waitress, was excellent, she took our order promptly, food came out correctly and timely. We definitely enjoyed her serving us and making this an excellent lunch. Our first time at Grill On Tex Mex was a bit disappointing. Although the service was good, the food was nothing spectacular. I ordered a combination with a chile relleno and a chicken enchilada. The chile relleno was not traditional. They did not use a poblano pepper. It was more like an Anaheim pepper. It was crispy on the outside, which I did not enjoy. The chicken in the enchilada was so dry. I think they just boiled it as it had no seasonings or flavor. They also skimped on the sauce. The refried beans were surprisingly good. The rice was bland. We also ordered a burrito, which had ground beef and a barely noticeable amount of beans. It was just okay. Chips and salsa were pretty good. I probably won't be coming back. read more

This place is so new it doesn't show up on a Google search. Too bad too because it was delicious. I consider myself a bit if a relleno aficionado I had the ground beef relleno , and chicken enchilada with green chili sauce. My wife had the chicken relleno with the deluxe tomatillo sauce and the ground beef enchilada with the ranchero sauce. The relleno's were AWSOME and enchiladas were pretty darn good as well. This restaurant is just a 10 minute walk from our house and is absolutely excellent! We have been about 4 or 5 times now and the service is always top notch. I usually get the cheese enchiladas with rice and refried beans. The top shelf margarita is very good too. read more
