We have been coming to to the Sarasota Grillsmith regularly for several years The food and service are always excellent. We particularly love the Spicy Thai shrimp appetizer, crab and shrimp cakes, Lemon Feta Chicken, Cajon chicken and sausage pasta, meatloaf and the steak dinners. Decided to try Grillsmiths for lunch on Mother's Day. This was just after them allowing indoor dining for Covid-19. They did a great job following the new guidelines. The restaurant is nicely decorated and clean. Very friendly staff. The food was delicious! My mom and I were splitting a meal and I asked for a second plate. They brought the meal already separated out for us on two plates without asking. I thought that was nice. Lots of good food choices on the menu. Definitely will go again. read more

Rating the restaurant is a real challenge for me. We've been there twice in the past month. Going for us from a 4.5 down to a two and how can that be. The food and service was excellent when we arrived right when they opened. I had a delicious pork chop dinner with asparagus and my wife enjoyed it well prepared Grouper dinner The portions were generous and the quality of the food was excellent. When we departed it was a bit of a challenge to get our check and leave because the line was out the door and the waitresses were swamped. We returned early this week on Monday when they had specials and I ordered the meatloaf and spinach and my wife ordered the chicken marsala.. I think my expectations were a little too high on the meatloaf as I was not expecting a bread loaf which is how I would characterize the entrée. I Must add however th the chicken Marsala was very good. So why the two?? I know that it is very difficult to get staff to support a good restaurant, however I consider it a managers responsibility to match the customer load to the staff that is available. Our waitress was excellent but had to run around like a crazy person to try to serve everyone and handle all of the waitresses responsibilities. And recommending a 5/2 rating I would absolutely encourage early as possible arrival and eat promptly and don't plan to linger because the service drops off exponentially as the evening moves on an the house is packed. read more

On a downward trend. We've been regular patrons of the Sarasota location since it first opened in August of 2019. Our initial visit was absolutely wonderful with exceptional service and scrumptious food and drink. With each return visit, service has decreased. Additional tables have been added to the point of resembling flying on a low-cost airline. You have to walk sideways to get in or out of your table. Our server had tables spread throughout. We never had the server or manager return to ask about our food- they probably dared not maneuver the obstacle course to get back to us. This is NOT a place to come and enjoy a relaxing meal with family and friends. But if you enjoy Disney lines and crowds, jump in! read more

I didn't complain to our server as I have found that others at your table feel guilty enjoying their meal when someone is unhappy. Others that were with me felt their food was good , not great. I came in for their soft opening. Wow, was I blown away by the food and service! The atmosphere allows for anyone to enjoy themselves, from someone in a suit or dress, to those in a t-shirt and sandals. Great modern decor, incredible artwork, and lots of TVs. The staff went above and beyond, especially our bartender Diana! She made us feel so welcome and had an extensive knowledge of the menu and drinks. We had the Mussels and Spicy Thai Shrimp as appetizers. I could have ate an entire bowl of the shrimp, for dinner. They were perfectly fried and sauced, with just the right amount of kick. The mussels came out in a white wine sauce, that we started taking spoons to it, since it was so good! The mussels were cooked perfectly, but were a bit on the smaller side. They are also accompanied by a couple of pieces of lightly grilled bread, which is perfect for dipping in the sauce! For dinner, I had the wet-aged filet mignon with sautéed Zucchini and the jalapeño Mac-n-cheese. My plate was licked clean it was all so good. The steak was grilled perfectly and was very juicy. The zucchini, sautéed to keep a nice crispness to it, which can be hard to do. The jalapeño Mac-n-cheese, yum! It was presented in a small cast iron bowl. This is another side that could easily be an amazing entree! For dessert, I ended with the Bananas Foster. If the food so far, wasn't incredible enough, the dessert was the creme de la creme! It came out presented perfectly with the ice cream in a nice waffle bowl. The plate was lightly powdered with cinnamon and a nice caramel swirl. The bananas and sauce came in a gravy dish, so it would not melt the ice cream. The flavors were like fireworks in my mouth! This was a perfect end of the meal. Lastly, the drinks. The Smoked Old Fashion was out of this world. They light a block of cedar and then put your glass over it to smoke up. The drink is then poured in perfectly after the glass is smoked just right! Very very tasty. I also had the Moscow Mule, made with St. Augustine Vodka. It came out in a very cool, leaning glass. It was so refreshing! This is a must go to spot if you're in the Siesta Key/Sarasota area. The food is out of this world and you will come out extremely satisfied with the whole experience! It's a great spot for anyone, locals, snowbirds, or vacationers. read more

Pad Thai with pork...tenderloin.....u never guess it was tenderloin.....it was some kind of pork"nuggets"....when u hear pork tenderloin on top of the dish you will thinking nicely sliced pork tenderloin..... The rice was overcooked, was mush.... Appetizer blackened wings.....oh my gosh....had way too much feather on it!!! I visited this place for the first time with 2 of my friends who were visiting from out of town. To be honest, the food was nothing impressive. It wasn't bad by any means, I enjoyed the Grillsmith burger. I just felt it was average, but the price was good so can't really complain. I vacation in Sarasota often and have been to Grillsmith 3X. Boy do I need to come back more often. They have a great diverse menu and everything on the menu is amazing! Another great find here in Sarasota! Went with family and friends here for New Years Eve dinner. Quick service by our waiter who's name escapes me right now, but he was excellent. He quickly got us drinks and in no time our apps arrived. Get the crab shrimp cakes! Divine! We ordered our meals which arrived quickly and everyone enjoyed their meals. This place has potential but currently is just average for me. The service was ok but I do understand staffing shortages everywhere. The real fault was the food. While the wings were outstanding the pumpkin crab soup was lacking, there was pumpkin spice present but not the taste of pumpkin. This was my first and last visit to Grillsmith-Sarasota.Our friends who had visited once before, invited us to experience Grillsmith with them.I will not even elaborate on the snail paced unappetizingly presented beverages . Our friend said, try the pumpkin crab soup, yummy! NOT! Three of us ordered pumpkin crab soup....not one piece of crab meat amongst the three of us! Brought to attention of the server, we were offered tomato basil soup. The "crab" cakes were HARD fried and 90% filler.The side salad limped to the table and died on my plate.
