I have been to grillsmith several times now and each time I am blown away with the quality of food and service. I could go on and on telling you what i ate and how great it was but i am telling you that you need to try this for yourself. You can taste the freshness and quality in every bite of food. We have been lucky enough to have joe as our server several times now, he is hands down the best server I have ever had at a restaurant. Not only is he very attentive the knowledge he has on the menue is shocking. You can ask him anything and he can go into detail even telling you what cattle company they use and how they have fresh caught short trip fish from the gulf. Our favorite spot in SRQ. Food is unlike any other, every dish is made from scratch and leaves you wanting more. Service is impeccable, Moe was a fantastic waiter, and General Manager Kristine was extremely pleasant and knowledgeable about the companies history and it's menu! Went there 12/1 at 7:45PM. Service was awful. Our gay waiter was really creepy. Food was tasteless. The tomato bisque soup was bland. Two orders of flatbread were both bland and cold. My fish tacos left a lot to be desired. The French fries with them were cold. Waiter never asked if we wanted a second drink. I had high hopes but will not return. read more

My friend and I enjoyed happy hour a bite the other night and we both were very pleased. Our server, Tiffany, was a delight and suggested the half price bottle of wine, being that it was Tuesday. We had the crab and shrimp cakes and they were delicious and plentiful. I also tried the soup that was featured as a fall menu item and it was great. The place is designed well, and not too loud. Last week was our first visit to Grillsmith and we were not disappointed! I selected the salmon, which is probably the best I've had in Sarasota. I do wish there was more than one sauce option, as I don't care for pepper, but it's served on the side so it wasn't a problem. My husband also raved about his ribeye, which was cooked perfectly. I'm rating 4 stars instead of 5 because our dinners came out before we finished our salads and that's a personal pet peeve of mine - not enough to prevent a return visit though! I am only giving this restaurant two stars because we encountered so many issues with our party of six. We were greeted by a very nice group of people upon entering, and immediately seated. Then it seemed to go downhill. My husband's drink came in a cracked glass that was actually splintering on the table and it took quite awhile to get to our drinks. We ordered a pretzel appetizer that arrived burnt, however they immediately replaced it with another well done pretzel. I ordered the pork chop marsala that was extremely tough to cut and eat. The marsala was a piece of melted cheese with cooked mushrooms in it. Another person ordered the chicken dinner, and it too was tough to cut and extremely salty. The other diners with us said their dinners were ok. Our checks were all messed up, and that took a long time resolve. We spent two hours there, most of it spent waiting. With all of that being said, this was their first Friday night after opening, and they were extremely busy so we will probably try it again in a few months after they have had some time to fix the issues. read more

Loved Grillsmith! Was struck by the friendliness and concern of the staff. The smoked salmon appetizer and the filet and side dishes were well prepared. The meat quality was unusually good. Key lime pie was the best ever. Great meal and agree that the atmosphere works for dressy or casual. This new restaurant is definitely worth a try and we will be back! read more

It must have been a bad night. I know the reviews have been good but this evening it wasn't. To begin having a waiter refer to the woman at our table as "Him" is inappropriate. The bread served was not fresh. The pasta dishes were not good. The short rib was not hot and very fatty. One of the dinners ordered at our table was served more than 15 minutes after our other donners. I have had sandwiches on my first visit and they were good. Tonight was a disaster. read more

The only thing worse than the food was the service! 1) every beer we ordered wasn't available (on the menu but not available) given a completely different beer and told it would be taken off the check but to just keep it. Then to add insult to injury was charged for the beer I didn't want AND the beer I didn't get! 2)French fries were half cooked, we saw numerous fries go uneaten around us on other tables too. Surely something this basic can be mastered 3) vegetable of the day - a pile of hacked up carrots reminiscent of school dinners 4) would you like anything else?" Yes please, mayonnaise. It never showed up. 5) ate a burger and ribs with a butter knife even though there were stacks of sharp knives littered around the restaurant. 6) service was just out and out awful from the moment we walked in until the moment we left. We started out this visit with a not to auspicious beginning. They told us that it would be 45 minutes. Ok we expected a wait. We asked if the high tops in the bar area were first come first serve and were told not when they were on a wait. There were 2 parties in front of us, one getting seated as we were signing in. About 10 minutes later we were given a choice of that same high top (one of 3 open in the bar) or a booth. ?? Anyway we sat and they said they'd be right with us. and they were. Drinks came quickly. We ordered a medium rare steak and "well done" plain fries, the appetizer mussels with a side of fries, and the thai noodles (there were 3 of us). The noodles say "spicy" sauce - and it delivered. It was spicy. Loved it! but didn't come with a warning - most places say spicy and its not very. Be warned, this is! The mussels were wonderful with the parmigiana fries. The steak while tasty was more medium well. Probably should have sent it back. The fries were just ok. They were asked to make them crispy but they were not close. We saw most people with "handhelds". While the noodles and mussels were re-order worthy, the steak order will probably be replaced with a hand held so as not to be disappointed again. We will go back when we are back in town but not rush there. read more

Unless some organizational standards change, this restaurant will never make it. Their front of house staff is incompetent at best, and rude. We made a reservation in advance to celebrate a birthday for 8, because the restaurant had just opened and we wanted to give a new local spot a try, opposed to our usual stop of Ruth's Chris just up the road. We will not make that mistake again. Upon arrival we gave our name, and tried to discretely give the cake for our party to the hostess. Firstly, they had NO CLUE, what to do with this cake and made a scene about out, ruining the "birthday special" element. They then proceeded to take us to TWO SEPARATED tables of 6, where we were told we could, ourselves, "push the tables together if we needed." Five minutes after being sat at our separated tables, we were greeted once again by one of the useless staff who said they were unable to store our birthday cake, and left it sitting on the table and walked away without further explanation. Twenty minutes later the manager came over and reconciled the matter, but it was too late for our standards. The waitress took 10-12 minutes to deliver our drinks & left us without water for the majority of the meal, and had zero knowledge of the menu, (I ordered something verbatim from the entrees and she said "I don't know what you mean, we don't offer that"). The food was adequate, and with better service, this establishment could be considered a medium level fast casual eatery. The staff, however is C- level at best. read more
