Very cute little place my friend and I discovered from Yelp looking for something small on a Saturday morning. They allow dogs in here which is nice because while sitting outside, we noticed a lot of people were walking their dogs and stopped in here. I had the Greenwich sandwich which consisted of avocado, tomato, lettuce, spinach, hummus and cucumber. Hummus and avocado!? Must get! A little disappointed though since I didn't taste any hummus. I also had the hot chocolate which had too much milk or cream and no chocolate taste. The atmosphere was nice and sitting outside under a tree and a kind of quiet little neighborhood was nice. They also have more seating indoors but we only peeked inside. Not sure there is a point to their website. We came here with friends on a Saturday morning. The friends were passing through town and we wanted some vegan food that consisted of hot drinks and tasty breakfast. This place was wonderful. We ordered online and our food and drinks are ready to go when we got there. And because of Covid we are able to get outside in the nearby neighborhood park. I got the BLAT sandwich. It was both tasty and refreshing and I also got the turmeric golden latte was so milk and it was warm and delicious as well. I had ginger in it but it's definitely stood out to me as someone else is trying to like ginger but thinks it is spicy. I can't wait to come back here next time. I absolutely love this place in and out. Currently it offers take out/curbside pick up with a large variety of options to order online, from coffee drinks, with probably one of the largest milk choices I have seen, baked goods, amazing sandwiches, cakes to bulk purchases. This is a staple of good coffee, the tastiest vegan baked treats, and really healthy sandwiches; and you get the amount of ingredients you are supposed to get, never shortchanged. I stopped in this weekend to get a quick treat to enjoy in Dickinson Park since the weather is still so nice out. I had the Golden Latte with Oatmilk and a Philly Muffin with jam. I have heard great things about all their food but I just wanted something simple. The Golden Latte is superb, it has a nice spicyness that I couldn't get enough of. Currently everything is order on the web and pick up at the pickup window. Great staff with delicious, quality food and beverages. Im so happy they have been open for over ten years now and were able to survive the Covid pandemic. Ten years ago they were one of the only coffee shops in the neighborhood and never over charged for the nondairy (which are all of them) milk options. Some places used to charge .75 extra for a table spoon of soy milk in your coffee, or tea, or whatever your beverage of choice is. I highly recommend supporting this local business and support some of the causes they are involved in. read more

Came here with a friend yesterday and we got a bagel with "cream cheese" and zucchini bread to share. For drinks, she got a cinnamon almond chai latte with hazelnut syrup while I got a coconut chai latte with marshmallow syrup. Both were DELICIOUS! Grindcore has a very interesting ambience. Very pro-activist and heavy metal. Personally find it to be a better place for conversation than studying (unless you can concentrate with heavy metal playing in the background) but this place has a good amount of seating. The best! Before we moved to Philly, we used to stop at Grindcore on tour with our band even if we didn't have a show booked in town. Love this place and we're fortunate to have bought a rowhouse nearby. It's our Cheers. Here are the main great things: * The staff -- all so friendly. They'd give a treat to our (late) senior dog whenever we stopped by and are always kind. * The food! I love the selection of baked goods like cakes, cookies, Dottie's donuts, and cannolis. Friendly staff good coffee and I like the selection of creamers and agave On my first visit the kropotkin is what I was told may have been the most popular. While it was good as a carnivore it definitely had me wanting for meat lol I've been here maybe a dozen times plus since I've moved to south Philly. The main reason is cos it's such a close walk but also cos the the friendly staff and the coffee is good. Only had the everything bagel once with the jalapeño cream cheese. I wish I got the ghost pepper cream cheese when it was available since I love spicy foods but didn't know it was seasonal so I guess I'll wait for it next season lol. Guess early morning I just against my nerm didn't have the balls to just go with the ghost pepper. Emma's delight with the tofurkey slices is good and Better with added avocado but the best of the lot is easily the seitan sandwich with the pickles and mustard. Got a soy latte. Barista seems very experienced and knows her craft. They have additional seating in the back. The front of the café has a very hipster vibe to it, but does not really create the most comfortable atmosphere to relax in for longer than an hour. There seems to be a steady flow of neighborhood regulars. At the same time, I felt like they don't really put in much effort to make new guests feel at home- tried to make small talk without much reception. Perfect coffee house because it's 100% VEGAN. Great setup for seating individuals taking breakfast or brunch alone, with friends, or even a family with a bunch of children like mine. The most metal of coffee shops. I've been hearing about this place for years, and finally came to Philadelphia to try it. I saw that you should place orders online, but the employees can take orders on the spot as well. No more indoor seating, but enough tables to sit outside. I'm not a vegan, but I loved the Costmo sandwich, with jalapeño, avocado, garlic aioli, and crispy "bacon". Coffee hit the spot, and I got a canned seltzer to go. During my weekend stay in Philly I ate at Grindcore House 2 times. In the morning I enjoyed a breakfast sandwich that was amazing. Both the jalepeño sandwich for breakfast and the baked good were amazing. The blueberry danish was out of this world. It was more cinnamon roll than danish but either way it was unreal. For lunch I had the Italian style seitan sandwich. If was a bit messy and overdressed but it's key parts were firing on all cylinders. The peppered seitan was amazing and tasted homemade and the veggies were fresh as well. Would recommend a visit here anytime of day to get fresh, homemade ingredients served by a nice staff! read more

Very good coffee. Plenty of vegan choices if you're into that. Gluten free options as well. The staff is very friendly and polite. I come here often on my walks for exercise (I've had 2 major back surgeries, disabled). Having Dickenson Park right down the block is great as well. They do have couches and table and chair setups in the back, and window seating upfront. They have 5 outdoor tables, 4 on the northern side, so shade! My only complaint is the music they play (Grindcore, duh), as it isn't a relaxing style of music. Easily fixed with IEMs and my own song list. Food is very good. Two and a half stars. Here's the reality: I'm not the target audience. Efficient staff, dog-friendly, lots of street parking in the area, some comfy seating in the back, and a couple tables in front and out front. Pretty latte art on my chai latte, which defaulted to soy milk (definitely would recommend any other milk substitute in this beverage). I've tasted better soy lattes elsewhere, and had to force myself to finish it during our long drive home. Baked goods were hedonistically oversized enough to share, but we were pretty disappointed at the lackluster flavor of the glazed horchata donut. Came up to Philly to visit a friend and left with the single best vegan breakfast I've ever had. I got the Costmo Breakfast Sandwich for the road back home. I devoured one half and found myself trying to savor the other. A sandwich so good I didn't want it to end. The perfectly seasoned tofu and "bacon" were the stars of the show, but everything on the sandwich was delicious. Grindcore House is not exactly around the corner for me, but I am absolutely down to ride my bike over for breakfast on a weekend. The staff is friendly, patient, and the atmosphere is just great. I've had dreams over the everything bagel with hummus, tomato, cucumber, and a little bit of onion... The coffee is delicious too, I usually get the iced coffee(small) and they have 5 milks/creamer if memory serves me correctly. Soy, Soy cream, coconut, almond, and oat I remember seeing. I came to Grindcore House at around 6:30pm yesterday in search of the best vegan cake in Philly. Now since I haven't tried all of the vegan cake in Philly I can't claim with 100% certainty that Grindcore has the win (or whichever other establishments also stock cake by Vegan Treats bakery) BUT I'm definitely leaning hard towards giving them the win. Grindcore gets their shipments from Vegan Treats on Thursdays, so I was really excited that they still had options when I came on a Tuesday. I got the banana caramel cheesecake, a s'mores s bar, and (the last) chocolate cake (slice). They also had cookies and cream cake slices, muffins, cookies/cookie sandwich type things, and peanut butter bites. The chocolate cake was awesome. A little dry on the cake portions, but the frosting, which was incredibly creamy/buttery, more than made up for any dryness in the cake. The cheesecake was also incredible, and had I not known better I'd suspect it wasn't vegan. The flavor and texture were both spot on. The s'mores bar I found less appealing, as the graham cracker portion was very dry, and the marshmallow/chocolate layers weren't gooey enough to balance it out. All in all I was really impressed with options and flavors, and if I lived even a bit closer I'd come often! read more

My girlfriend and I visited this coffee shop on our two-day trip to Philly earlier this month. Lucky for us it was a 5 minute walk from our Airbnb! My girlfriend is gluten-free and dairy-free and I'm vegan. The first morning we both got bagels with flavored cream cheese. The cream cheese was good, I thought it was good and she thought it was amazing. I got a donut and a vegan cannoli and it was THE best cannoli I've ever had, vegan or otherwise. Over our two visits, I also got a cinnamon sugar donut (good but nothing extraordinary) and a strawberry donut that was a little too sweet for me but very good - it didn't have that artificial strawberry flavor some treats have at other places. We also got iced drinks - a chai for my girlfriend, a toasted marshmallow latte for me. There were a few different milk options, which I like because my girlfriend prefers soy and I usually prefer almond. Very short wait and the baristas were nice. The music wasn't my taste, but wasn't overwhelming or super loud. 10/10 would recommend for the cannoli alone but they also had a lot of other treats and gluten-free options. read more

We also got some of the Dottie's doughnuts we know we love and got the italiano hoagie. This is by far one of my favorite spots, and it's my girlfriend's all-time favorite. First of all it is AFFORDABLE! Second of all, they are clearly run by leftists/progressives as they literally have a whole bookshelf filled with leftist literature. I adore that. Makes me feel very welcome, personally. If you don't like that, well you can still enjoy the food and atmosphere. Not everyone will like the grindcore music they play, but they never have it playing loudly. On to the food. Everything I've had from here has been really great. They have unique teas, unique "cream cheeses", and really yummy sandwiches. Their desserts are delicious as well. The staff is quite friendly. The atmosphere: In the same back room as the bookshelf, they have a really comfy vibe where you can just sip your tea and sit on the couch with a book. Love it. Easily one of the best new coffeehouses to arrive on the scene. from the ample selection of drinks and a diverse selection of music, to an assortment of decadent desserts and one of the best backrooms out there; Grindcore has plenty to keep you coming back for more! On my first visit I just stopped in for a quick cup to go after plans fell through. But I instantly became intrigued and made note of the the milk selection that they had to offer. While some coffeehouses don't even put out soy milk; Grindcore does it right by offering soy, rice, coconut, and almond milk to choose from. and the majority of it is diverse enough to the point that us dairy drinkers won't miss it. on the second visit I made a point to grab one of their decadent desserts and listen to some tunes in the back. between the explosions of peppermint, peanut butter, and then some; it was pretty hard to choose. but the peanut butter brownie that I went with got the job done! with all of the eclectic books, ample seating, and interesting monthly art on display that the back room offers; it easily has something for everybody. And with plenty of outlets and one of the most diverse music selections that you'll here off a non-jukebox, you'll find yourself lounging for hours if you're not careful. LOVE the Grindcore House! It's all vegan, so I didn't have to worry about finding out what I "could" eat. Staff were really nice, the coffee was pretty good, and the selection of milks is great, too (almond, soy, and rice milk plus soy cream). The cake... oh... the cake. I shouldn't come here too often, otherwise I'll need new pants. I had the brownie cheesecake and the German chocolate cake so far. And they are beyond wonderful. I am not a dessert person, but I could easily only live on the cake they sell there. The sandwiches are great, too (I had the Kropotkin - delicious). I loved their iced tea. Expecting some crazy sugary beverage, I was positively surprised as I received an unsweetened tea (which I could have sweetened with the organic, fair trade agave syrup). Good music selection... if that's your thing. No just grindcore, but if you're really not into the louder kind of music, you may just not want to plan your entire afternoon here. read more

While traveling I was recommended to stop here by @phillyvegans and I'm so glad I did! My husband and I came here for coffee and bagels on a Sunday morning. The case of baked goods was stocked and they offered a wide variety of bagels, vegan cream cheeses and Earth Balance butter. I was very pleasantly surprised! We ordered a couple bagels, donuts and an iced coffee. Everything was great! The bagels were fresh and the chive cream cheese was really, really good! Good vegan donuts are hard to come by, but we thought theirs were great. The girls at the counter were friendly and had our order ready fast. Everything was really reasonably priced, too. The music was loud, but the place is called Grindcore House, so you kind of have to expect it! We like it anyway, so it worked for us. Wow! What a place! Awesome decor and great reading selection if you have a few minutes to hang. A few seats in the front with more seating in the back. We treated ourselves to two Ice coffees and.. well I was very impressed with the dairy products available to guests. Soy, almond, OAT! Fantastic. I love the options! My only gripe is that this wasn't here when I lived around the corner. I would've been here every single morning. Amazing! A vegan paradise! My favorite is the "Tree Hugger" salad mixed greens, cucumbers, tomatoes, red onions, avocado, olives and a yummy, crunchy seed mixture topping. Choose from shiitake mushroom dressing or goddess. The mushroom is my go to! Delicious!! I alternate between that and sometimes a toasted everything bagel with jalapeño cream cheese with spinach, tomato, avocado and cucumbers. Both great choices! Their cakes are bananas! Carrot cake, Speculoos bombs, chocolate covered cannoli. Wowza! Delicious! Not just by vegan standards either! They now carry Dotties Donuts as well! Coffee and teas complete with a fixings bar....almond milk, soy milk, raw sugars, agave. Yea baby! I'm a big fan of their lavender syrup which they make in house from freshly ground lavender and a tad of raw sugar. Iced chai is another favorite! Oh, and They carry my favorite Synergy Kombucha too! . The back room is very cute and relaxing. Small tables and couches. Dog friendly! Many people doing work on their computers too. Just wanted to update to say that every time I come here, I like it more. The staff really puts this place over the top ... how many places would not only NOT scoff at you drinking 5 cups of the bottomless coffee, but be ACTIVE about making sure that I always had a full cup. Really great stuff. I have also now tried the food and it's excellent. While not completely satisfying to me personally (as I need some meat), they are incredibly tasty and quite large. The hummus is fantastic, and I really love the multi-grain bread. The Greenwhich is my current fave. In short, it's really great that my girlfriend lives a block away from this place. read more

Went inside...warm air hit my skin, aromatic smells of fresh coffee brewing invaded my nose, and dogs with their owners caught my eyes (pet friendly). I enjoyed a white chocolate latte with a perfect balance of foam, cream, coffee and sweetness balance. I sat next to the large front window and people watched, occasionally playing with the dogs passing in and out of the shop. Friendly service, great coffee, cozy environment. It was my first time there and the woman taking my order refused to answer any questions and just directed me to the online menu eventually followed by a lecture because I didn't understand the rules of not being able to modify the sandwich. I have always been a fan of Grindcore, the people here are always super polite. I'm not vegan or even vegetarian, I don't even miss the meat or dairy when eating from here. I am really disappointed to see that anyone would give a poor review for an establishment taking precautions due to a PANDEMIC. I would give this 5 stars for friendly service alone! The girl at the counter is the nicest person you will ever meet!! So friendly!! I visited a year ago and thought she was having a good day that morning. When I visited recently, she had that same cheery attitude so it must be for real! I had the vegan cheesesteak, which was more like a vegan roast beef club. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't quite what I was expecting. They were very generous with the portion fixings though. They get their vegan baked goods from Vegan Treats every Thursday any time from 12-3pm. They probably get the largest order besides from Gondivas! Love Vegan treats! So I'm happy they get them!
