We recently came to eat lunch at Grinders and had the best experience. After feeling really discouraged for taking our baby twins out to eat and being treated like an inconvenience other places, the staff at Grinders was amazingly friendly and accommodating. On top of that the food was delicious! My husband had the philly cheese steak (best we've ever had) and I had the pizza which was awesome too! We'll definitely be back. I went here recently with some friends of mine, and the place couldn't have been better! Great selection of beers on tap, and their food is some of the best bar food I've ever had! We shared orders of their Big Ass Fries, topped with chili and cheese, and some of their Molten Chicken Wings; both were excellent, but I had my eyes on the prize... A full-sized South Philly Cheesesteak w/ onions, peppers, mushrooms and two kinds of cheese! Not one of us left that place hungry, but we still wanted more! They charged me 25 cents when I asked for extra dressing on my house salad with chicken on it. Do you think the server even told me there would be an extra charge, NO! I've NEVER been charged extra for salad dressing. The other reasons for the two star rating is that it took us 45 minutes to get our food and when I asked for extra limes upon ordering my vodka club soda, not only did our server forget them the first time but she forgot them the second time and then I had to ask another restaurant worker for extra limes with my drink. I can't believe there wasn't an extra charge for those too The restaurant is loud! We had a group of 10 people and all but a few of our party were disappointed from the experience. Updating my review ... the service here is HORRIBLE! We feel like it gradually keeps getting worse and to be honest I don't know why we keep returning thinking it will change. I went in with my two children, nobody was at the hostess stand so I headed back to the patio. There was quite a few free benches so I sat at the one closest to the door, wiped it off myself and sat there with my kids hoping someone would acknowledge us. NOPE! There was at least THREE servers that kept going in and out, walked past us for 10 minutes and not one hello, have you been helped, can I get you a menu. Not a single dAmn word. So then I proceeded to take my children inside and I had to order at the bar. Then after I order I had to carry my food plus four drinks out by myself while my kids tried to hold the back door open. At this point we will never go back and I will make sure to tell all of my friends about the lack of service here. read more

This place is overpriced, underwhelming, and just bad. The first time I went, I thought maybe we just had an inexperienced waiter- our chips and guacamole came out late and was brown, and my drink order was taken but never delivered and it took us 45 minutes to track our waiter down to re-order it. The second time, there was a mushroom on my slice of cheese pizza, barely a splash of vodka in my "double" vodka soda, and the slices of cheesecake we were given were still frozen. Love this place! The Stonewall location is very cool - you would never know it's a great little restaurant from the outside (it looks like a house). The menu has a lot of humor incorporated (see: "Big Ass Fries" etc) and the atmosphere and decor is weird and fun. We've been here twice and the food and service have been great both times. The first time, we sat at a bar top table right next to the kitchen. We shared some Funky Dough and I had the Veggie Philly - both were terrific. The sandwich was really delicious and a pleasant surprise on the menu for a vegetarian. The second time, we were seated at a table in the corner (which was nice because our baby was loud) and there was some great live music playing. We had more funky dough and I ordered The Veggie sandwich. Wonderful again! Can't wait to go back and try some pizza! read more

Heard lots of good reviews from people I know about Grinders. My experience was ok. It wasn't great, but not bad. Just not my vibe. Feels a little bit hipster there. The food is alright but didn't catch my attention the way I thought it would. The atmosphere is pretty crowded, staff was alright, but not great. I give it 3 stars. I think its one of those places where if it is your niche, you will think its one of the greatest places on earth, but if its not, you may be like me and just see it as average at best. read more

I was excited to hear that Grinders was opening a location out my way as I love the downtown branch. This was my third trip back to this location, and the worst. To start off the day, they had ran out of champagne for their $2 mimosa special by 12:30. Ended up having to go with $5 Bloody Mary's which were just average and had only a lime for garnish. Strike one. Next, up was the food. I tried their omelette with hash browns. The omelette came with a choice of 3 ingredients, so I opted for shrimp, mushrooms and onions. The flavor was good but skimpy on shrimp. I think I came across a few baby shrimp pieces, that's all. Plenty of mushrooms and onions though (onions could have been chopped up instead of whole rings). Strike two. On to the worst part. Service. I'll will preface this part. We did arrive in waves, but when the new arrivals sat down, it was at the end of the table so there was no real shifting around of seating positions. Food and drink orders were slow to arrive or missed altogether. I think our server should have been writing down his orders and who ordered what as he received them. This would have helped with the massive bill debacle. When we all got our checks, they were completely off and we had to have them sent back 5 or 6 times to have food and drink properly assigned to each party. After a few times sending the server back inside he was frustrated and dropped the F bomb while saying it was because we kept adding more people. This is your job, deal with it in a professional manner. Instead of taking one check in at a time to correct it, he should have stayed there, wrote down who had what and went to fix it all at once. This would have cut down the 20 or so minutes we waited on checks. This one debacle will not shy my away from returning as this is not the normal service I've had, but it did put a bad taste in my mouth. read more

This was my second experience at this restaurant. The first time was a blast the waitress was prompt, she was friendly she even happen to know somebody we knew, it was a good time and good laughs. The food was great and the first time everything was cooked perfectly all the ingredients tasted fresh and prepared correctly. It was a little cold the first time I went and they had heaters outside that made it tolerable and we could enjoy their scenery in the back patio there. It was great! So great that I had to go back a week later... Unfortunately the second time was not that great. While the weather was perfect and scenery was beautiful like last time. I felt both my food and the service was very subpar. First off they have great mimosas that are well priced during brunch. But they ran out of champagne. I have experience in the restaurant business and I understand that it does happen sometimes but I have also worked with restaurants that make the effort to do whatever it takes to make the customers happy and usually restock especially when it's liquor or alcohol since it so frequently available. Not a big deal just a little grumpy that I didn't get all the mimosas I was hoping to flush through my liver. So I made do with a bloody Mary. The bloody Mary was not very good it was overly peppered and how we had a line for the garnish which is a little on but overall it was okay. my meal was about the same it was only okay. The hashbrowns weren't fully cooked and were a bit mushy, the eggs that I ordered were a little overcooked and my Sunnyside yolks were not very sunny side at all as the yolks had set when they should be very runny and my toast was soggy not crispy like my first going. Also the biscuits and gravy were very cold and just seemed to lack flavor. Now this was my first time trying those based on all my friends recommendations from the week before. But even they said it didn't taste right this time around. But what made the experience not fun this time around was the service. Our waiter was clueless on how to handle a large table. He never wrote anything down and seem like he took one order at the time ran back and then came back to do another order back-and-forth. Now I will say we did have a couple of friends show up late but it did start off with eight seats so we only gained two more people than anticipated which is not that hard to accommodate for especially when each of them didn't even eat and just ordered one drink. When it came time to get our checks everybody's order was wrong. No exaggeration here, everybody's order was wrong. One of our friends only had a drink and he ended up with three people's orders on his check. The waiter was so lost on who ordered what. He couldn't bother to take one minute to write it all down. He just kept running back n forth and never stopped. I can understand that you can be a little overwhelmed with the larger group but we only had about 10 people. Which isn't that terrible and i also made it very easy for him and took the time to write down my correct order on the back of my incorrect receipt I gave it to him and told him that's exactly what I got and he said okay thank you goes back brings out another receipt and it is completely wrong again. Maybe there was something wrong with the register maybe it was just bad timing but he was frustrated and he certainly seem like he was frustrated with us like it was our fault for having a big group of people. I'm no stranger to the "French" language but when you curse towards your customers for doing nothing but trying to pay for what we actually ate that is just terrible. Overall it was just not a good experience this time around. I will go back and try again in hopes that it will of change by then but this outing left a sour taste in my mouth. Giving them 3 stars based on both my experiences as a whole. The first time was great the second was just awful. If you happen to get the waiter named Nathan just double check your receipt to make sure you didn't get triple charged. Can't fault a restaurant on one waiter but overall this experience for me just wasn't that good. Here's to hoping the 3rd time around is a good one. read more

We have been to the new Stonewall location 3 times now. Each with typically the same group of people. Last time 8 this time 10. Last time our experience was great! The waitress was prompt, nice, and made no mistakes on our bill for a "larger group". This time however our waiter was short with us, and took 20 minutes to bring out one drink for someone who ordered after our food orders were put in and at a slower time. When it came time to get our receipts they were all off. Each one had extra drinks on them and half had the wrong food item. We didn't move spots and most of us ordered the same time. We were all polite in pointing out the error no big deal. But he seemed to get annoyed and started dropping curse words as if it was our fault he didn't write down our orders or place them in the computer correctly. I don't believe a customer should be talked to like that when we were all nice and some wrote down what they had to help our waiter out. I should also mention there were children near by who could hear what he was saying. It was amazing to see the difference one waiter can make on your experience. Nathan was our waiter and he doesn't seem suited for this kind of work. I am sure we will go back but probably ask if he is working and if so for a different waiter. Food was great but service was awful. Ps they ran out of champagne for the mimosa special but that didn't phase us since the food and atmosphere typically make up for it. read more

Hands down the best service I have ever received!!!!! The hosts are cute, the waiters are super friendly, the bartenders are hilarious, and the management make you feel like you're apart of the family. The place is small and loud but honestly who cares???? This isn't a fine dining fancy table cloth sipping wine by candlelight wear a sports coat kind of place, its like a rowdy fun backyard party. Immediately greeted (and kind of spooked since we didn't expect the host stand to be where it was at) by a couple of beautiful goofy hosts who were obviously loving and having a great time at their job. Which I honestly loved seeing. When you immediately walk in and are greeted with a smile and a laugh it makes you feel right at home. I took a couple of coworkers out for lunch the other day and the hostesses were putting stickers on the wall, I saw the hosts ask a couple of children if they wanted to help her out which I thought was adorable to have the children be a part of the restaurant. I even got a sticker to put on there myself. The wait for dinner was a little long but it was completely worth it. The best part about this place is you can sip on an iced cold boulevard wheat and play the yard games outside on the big cozy lawn. It makes it feel like a neighborhood get together. My wife ordered the blt with a side Caesar salad, had a bite and it was delicious!! The candied bacon was a perfect touch it was so flavorful I almost stole it from her. I ordered the Philly cheesesteak (duh) and it was better than I could've ever imagined it to be. So cheesy and delicious. Good job chefs! The waitress was adorable and brought us everything very quickly. I thought since it was so packed it would take a while to get our food but it came out super fast. The manager went around and asked if everything was good and we had a nice chat. He made it feel like we were long lost friends! Most welcoming friendliest staff I have ever encountered in my 30 years. Ever. The décor is awesome and getting a little bit more 'grinders-y' everyday. It may look like a cute cottage on the outside but it is definitely a hipster rowdy place. The signs on the ceiling in the bar were awesome, and all of stretches artwork everywhere had a nice touch to the place. The hostess even told us a little bit about the chandelier piece above the doorway like we were in an art gallery. It seems like everyone who works there loves working there and absolutely enjoys being apart of their grinders stonewall family. At 9 o'clock they do a "Toast to the Ghost" which I thought was unique to any other place I have ever been to, since the place is supposedly haunted. The bartender got on a megaphone and said a little poem and everyone in the restaurant cheered and took a drink to the ghost. The atmosphere, the staff, and the location is perfect and couldn't be better. If you like amazing food and a good time I highly recommend this place. I have eaten at the Grinders in the Crossroads several times and the service and food has always been great. This location was a whole different experience! We went here thinking it would be the same. It was not and we were really disappointed we brought our friend from out of town. What a waste. We arrived on a Saturday night around 8pm. I'm not sure where the hostess was or what she was doing...but we had to wait10mins for her to come back and put our name on the list. Then we asked her the wait time, she said 40mins. Then she sat us 15mins later and there was plenty of tables open! the place she sat us (party of 6) was cramped full of people. Being a 7month pregnant women I didn't appreciate being squeezed into the back corner booth where I had to slide in and out. We asked for another table that was open and she said if we sat there the service would be too slow...but it was really slow where we sat anyway! It took over 40mins to get our food and we ordered mostly salads. My chicken fajita salad was a C at best. The chicken was burnt and dry. My mom was on a special diet and could only eat lettuce and they charged her $5.50ish was a small bowl of lettuce! Don't waste your money or time going to this location...Just go to the one down town! read more

We got there around 5:30 on a Friday and it was happy hour. We got The Dip and the Dilla. The dip had too much meat and the meat tasted re-heated. The chips were stale. The Dilla also tasted like the meat was re-heated and it was overall bland. The salsa for the Dilla had so much damn cilantro it was disgusting. Will not be going here ever again. read more

Well this place is so disappointing. First off why in the world would you have cheesesteak on your menu and then require people to pay extra for the cheese and on top of that your sandwich doesn't come with anything besides meat and bread unless you specify that you want grilled onions or mushroom or green peppers. So to me I feel like a Philly should come with all of the fixings, you shouldn't have to ask to put them on for extra. Ps the little to go container of sauce wasn't even fill 1/4 the way full. Come on guys how hard is it. My best friend and I both ordered the cheesesteak he knew in advance that you had to select everything. What a unique and interesting establishment! I personally had never been there before, and some friends suggested we meet up there for drinks and dinner and I am so glad we did. Tucked away in what looks like cabin, this bar and grill is so unique. The atmosphere reminds of places in Colorado- that rustic, cozy feel which is not pretentious and a fun vibe. We were seated and immediately greeted by a super friendly waitress (I feel horrible because I forgot her name) and we were told the drink specials which at that time were $3 mimosas---SCORE! Though a little loud in there, we all had a great time chatting and looking over the expansive menu. We decided to get the guacamole as an appetitzer which was delicious and a great way to share among friends. I really applaud our waitress as she informed us that she had a party of 15 and if we were ready to order, she would love to get our stuff in first. That is so considerate and also, being a former waitstaff myself, that is how it should be. I decided on the Cali-BLT which was absolutely delicious with the Tomato and Cucumber salad with feta added (also a suggestion by our fabulous lady) and I could not have been more please. Everyone around the table was incredibly happy with their meals and I would recommend this place in a heart beat. Definitely a Kansas City restaurant people should check out. Happy dining! read more

Love it. Best Philly Cheese Steak in town bar none. Not really a TV bar but it has great food. Very quirky and interesting. When the boss is there it is really quirky and interesting. He's a livewire. Hard to get into because of volume of traffic but that is because of the quality of the food. It's really good. Just a little bit pricey but in line with most of their competitors. Unfortunate. Just had the worst birthday meal ever here. After waiting forever to be seated, my family of 6 sat unrecognized for 15 more minutes until I asked the hostess who our server was. The host said our server was too busy (he had two other tables) then she took our drink order for him and we continued to wait another 15 minutes until our server finally took our order. After waiting 30 minutes for the food to arrive, they forgot to put my cheeseburger order in. They rushed it but still charged us. No manager. Happy Birthday to me. Total bust. Sucks because I love the other location but doubt we will be back. In fact, my office was supposed to meet here in two days to celebrate and we will be going somewhere else. read more

Hmm...where to start. Positives: Their pizza was good. Surprisingly good. I really really enjoyed the salmon pie. Margherita was just okay. I will come back for the salmon pizza, but due to other issues, I won't exactly rush back to Grinders. Other positives-- The Philly cheesesteak hit the spot too. Big beer list. Outdoor space. Much needed type of bar-restaurant in the Lenexa area. Would love to grab beers here on a sunny spring day in their patio space. Liked the refurbished house and bowling lane elements. Negatives: 1. It is very loud in this restaurant. Be prepared for that. 2. I found a piece of melted plastic buried in my Philly Cheesesteak. When I brought this to our waitresses attention, I was not impressed with her response. 3. Staff. I've had negative staff experiences at both this Grinders and the original. Staff just never seem that "into" serving. They are kind of gruff and rough around the edges. I don't need TGIF over the top flare stuff, but just general courtesies. Some of the staff at this location were nice, but some, including our waitress, were quite curt and didn't seem to give a damn what questions or concerns we had. At the end of the meal, post paid check, I let her know about the melted plastic in my sandwich. She quickly grabbed it and said "give me that and I'll let the kitchen manager know." No apology or nothing. We stuck around a few more minutes thinking she'd come back to apologize or have manager talk to us, but nothing happened so we just left. Due to these negatives, 3 out of 4 of us were quite put off by Grinders Stonewall. read more

This place has all of the makings to be the best location in Overland Park. The outside seating area, soon to open coffee shop, volleyball court and general ambiance are very unique for the area. The food is just as good if not better than the original Grinders location. The only downfall of my visit (with my family) was that the service was off. Our host was generally confused as to where to seat us, our server had to ask about beer availability twice and when we got an appetizer it got dropped off so quickly we didn't even get the chance to ask for appetizer plates. I want this place to do well as it is in my neighborhood but hope the service is better next time I'm there. read more

We enjoyed some beer on the patio on an absolutely beautiful early evening. The service was great...Caroline was attentive and checked on refills and additional apps as needed. We ordered pizza slices which were crispy like flatbread. The BBQ nachos were good too. Wanted to try the cheesesteak but just got too full with potato slices. Went to this place one day for Lunch while completing assorted errands in Lenexa, and it was worth it. We got a Roast Beef Sandwich and a Reuben, both were quite good. Both sandwiches came with chips and those seemed to be fresh as well. Atmosphere was great and if the weather is nice, they have a good area to sit outside and enjoy your meal. I highly recommend this place and hope to return soon. read more

Excellent, excellent experience. Nice smooth drinks. Perfect friend mushroom appetizer. We are vegetarians.....had the veggie wrap and the veggie "cheesesteak" sandwich (with the banana peppers). Wow. Fresh, fresh, fresh! Homemade chips = 10/10. A friend who came with us had the regular rib-eye Philly cheesesteak - literally overflowing and piping hot. Not sure how it would have looked more delicious! A sign in the front door says "wait for a smiling person to seat you". However ALL their team members were smiling - nothing better than being in a place where the staff is happy. Our waiter David was VERY friendly and attentive. Atmosphere and decor were super cool as well. Got free stickers on our way out the door. Highly recommend. read more
