Have eaten at Grinders Stonewall twice & both times food was very good. Have had the Marguerita pizza & the Philly steak sandwich & others in my party have had the Rueben & the Breakfast burrito and all have been very good. The service on the first visit on a Friday night was adequate as the place was packed. The second one, Saturday at lunch time, the service was excellent. Stopped in for a bite to eat this afternoon. Unfortunately we did not get to sample the food as we couldn't get any staff to seat us. After waiting ten minutes at the host station (sign outside advised to wait at the host station for seating) we attempted to get the attention of a bar employee and failed, and further tried to flag someone down who appeared to be wait staff and failed. Clearly does not respect guest's time or value customers. Will not be back. read more

I order from here on GrubHub all the time. I order the Large Marge burger and no one has to worry about my burger getting cold during the delivery because I get it so rare that it might as well be raw. That's right! Even though the food isn't oriental, they have the BEST crab rangoons I've ever had. They get my order right and the food is always amazing! Eh? That sums it up. Love watching Stretch on the variety of Food Network shows he's been on and was excited to try the food. Again it was Eh? The food was hit and miss my husband loved his Philly and potato casserole, my daughter's burger was very dry and just sad she had it with potato salad which was ordinary and I had the meatball grinder which lacked sauce and excitement it was just boring in flavor with a side of olive salad which consists of diced up olives with red onion. We also order trash tots which were plain frozen tator tots that you can buy at a grocery store. It's annoying when a menu leads you to believe the food is going to rock and it's plain frozen tots. Outstanding restaurant. I had never heard of Grinders before coming to KC, and honestly the only reason I stopped in was because I had driven by a few times and the parking lot was always full. Walked in, warmly greeted and seated within 5 mins, even in a busy Saturday night. Ordered the Authentic Philly Cheesesteak (pro tip: order with both cheeses) and a local brewed beer and they both were amazing. The menu is extensive along with the beer list, but the two times I've been I just had to go with the cheesesteak and a side of smoked provolone potato casserole and both were so good. Came here on a Friday evening. Expected to wait so we put our name in and went to the bar for a drink. When I ordered another drink our waiter told me they were out of Titos. We asked if we could have a different vodka for the same price. Waiters response - "you get it for whatever I ring in". Nice touch. Nice customer service. This location is a bit hidden, but it's worth a stop. I went in for a quick lunch yesterday during my workbreak. We sat at a hightop table in the bar as the place was pretty packed. I came in wanting shrimp and pineapple on a slice (at 11:40am), but was told they were out of shrimp. I settled on pineapple only and a house salad with ranch on the side. My husband ordered a calzone and the real crabby rangoons. The crabby rangoons came out and were really tasty. Then the salad came out and it was drowned in ranch. I'm not a fan of returning food when I can't see the entire preparation. I'm sure the kitchen staff is trustworthy, but I'm still wary of what might come out with new orders... Anyway, I couldn't eat the salad (as that much ranch would mess my stomach up in a bad way). The pizza slice came out and it was huge and very tasty. Our waitress then let us know that my meal was comped because of the salad. This made a mediocre-poor experience change to a mediocre-good experience. The decor is fun and the beer list seems decent (had I not been on a work break, I would have gotten one of their draft Boulevards). I'll definitely return though I'm going to steer away from salads (or any kind of special order that isn't pizza related). read more

Birthday lunch on Saturday with my mother in law. Matthew is a gem- he had gramma laughing - he had us all laughing!! We all ordered sandwiches- a Rueben, a Cuban, a meatball grinder and two Philly cheesesteaks. The odd one of the bunch ordered chicken tenders and fries. Really impressed with everything! I Have been wanting to try this place for a very long time and finally did! The food was excellent! My husband had the calzone. He had me sample it and it was amazing! The pizza dough was some of the best I have ever tasted. It was also huge!! I had a burger and it was very good as well. We went on Sunday night so getting in was no problem . I have been to this place a few times. The food is good but the service is a joke. The first time I went there our server had an emotional break down because of some issue with a patron on the patio. Our table was neglected for around 30 minutes. Just about the time we were getting ready to walk out a manager came by and comped our meal so we decided to stay and eat. My fourth time there, we sat down ordered drinks, received drinks then no one came back for around 30 minutes. Just about the time we were getting ready to walk out a different server came by and said the other server would not take our order because one person was talking on the phone. Get real? I went to the new Grinders Stonewall for my birthday dinner with my family. Not only was staff and management very accommodating, they were very friendly too! It was so fun to see the old Stonewall Inn up cycled into something more fun and current. Grinders has awesome beer too! Make sure you ask staff about a beer selection outside of domestic. I'm so glad I did! They aren't snobby and will give you a great recommendation... I loved the two different brews they told me to try. Fantastic food! So much to choose from!! Even with a party of 18, the food came out fast and the service was wonderful. Service has always been great. The food has always been extremely disappointing. Most recently I ordered the Large Marge burger. The bun was a nice substantial bun that didn't immediately go soggy and fall apart. That's was the only positive the burger had to offer. I ordered the burger to be cooked medium - it was cooked medium well and dry (maybe why the bun didn't get soggy?) The burger meat had been way over-mixed creating an extremely dense and rubbery patty. The meat was heavily seasoned with garlic. It tasted more like sausage than burger. If you're going to screw with a burger by putting something other than salt and pepper on the meat, warn the customer first. The lettuce/tomato/onion/pickle setup was served to the side of the burger, but that didn't keep the lettuce from being wilted before even touching the burger. The tomato slice was only a 2" diameter slice from near the butt of the tomato. When I pay those kinds of prices for an a la carte burger, I expect an awesome burger. The Large Marge wasn't even sorta-kinda good. The fries I ordered as a side???? Well, if you've ever baked crinkle cut Ore-Ida fries in your oven at home, you've had Grinder's French fries. If food quality doesn't improve, I give this place 12 more months before they close their doors. read more
