It is very hard to find this place it is right off the 405 Freeway diagonally across the street from Costco. You can't see the place from the street. Look for the Giant Old World Village Neon Sign. You pull into that parking lot. Then proceed to the end & you will see Grinderz in the Back at the very end. The Parking here is Free. The Interior is something a Skateboarder would love & be in Heaven. Be sure to scope out the whole place. There are tables & Chairs Inside, a Flat Screen TV & an Outdoor Patio Area as well. Remember to take a picture of the Giant Skateboarder Sneaker. They have a book with pictures of their Menu items. There is also a Menu on the back wall. The Staff here is Super Friendly. I got the Classic Cheeseburger with Pepper Jack Cheese. The Burger was Good. But The Fries are The Standout Here. They are EXCELLENT! It is hard to Find Excellent Fries. It's been awhile since I came here, but for some strange reason I was craving a turkey burger. I've never had a turkey burger quite as good as this one. Let me tell you, that patty was definitely not dry. As I ate, the juices from the patty were dripping onto the wrapper and into my mouth because I couldn't get to a napkin fast enough. With a massive amount of bacon, thousand island, and avocado atop beer battered fries, these put In n Out's animal fries to shame. Totally worth the combo upgrade since you would probably share it considering the size (and calories). My cheeseburger was great and I Ioved the crunchy bun. It was a little saltier than usual but the party was grilled to perfection. I could have ordered the burger with Chipotle Mayo Sauce and pepper jack cheese but I was good with cheddar and thousand island sauce. The Cashier was awesome - super knowledgable and very sweet! She noticed it was our first time here and gave us a rundown of the menu while also revealing some items on the secret menu (pigsy fries!!!). This place is a hidden gem, literally! It's a bit hard to find since the signage at night isn't all that bright. When you Waze or Map it, it doesn't take you directly to it either. I'm not a big fan of burgers but I surprisingly loved this spot! Their burgers are just the right size and cooked to perfection. I also would've preferred more lettuce in the burgers as we were only given one leaf of lettuce each. Having more lettuce would provide the burger with an additional crunch to balance out the softer texture from the patty and buns. Because of this, the burger was quite mushy. Um beer battered smothered fries?! YES PLEASE! I came here for dinner with three other people after learning that our favorite place for Taco Tuesday had an hour wait. Once we got there we were greeted by the friendly guy at the cashier. He gave us great recommendations and talked about what was popular there. I went with their cheese burger with pepper jack cheese and no pickles. We also shared their off menu Pig Sty Fries. I liked that my cheese burger had the option of either pepper jack or american cheese and came with 1000 island dressing ($5). I also liked that you can op to add avocado or bacon for an additonal $1. I just had it by itself and I enjoyed it. The bun was more dense than other burger joints. The meat was a tad dry but overall delicious. The Pig Sty Fries though was the super star of the night. We shared it with four people and still couldn't finish it. I was amazing. It was delicious beer battered crispy fries, topped with lots of cheese, bacon, thousand island, grilled onions, and avocado. It was better than any smoothered fries I've had. And the damn thing was only $9. So cheap and so good. My sister who went with their protein style turkey burger said the meat was too salty. But overall, still a good experience. Pricing here is cheap and I like that they don't really charge more if you make alterations. For example, if you get a combo meal, which is normally about $10, you can change the fries out for onion rings without an additional charge. You can even swap out your soft drink for an option of a cup of beer without any extra charges. I like that their menu is pretty basic but you can ask them to do anything really. The guys working here are so nice and the food came out quick. The inside has a skater vibe to it. It's casual and cute. My five star review here is when comparing this place to other types of restaurants in the same category. Cheap burger joints such as Tommy's, Harry's, Jim's, and other eateries with male first names. I'm not comparing this to sit down restaurants like Umami or Slater's. This restaurant opened up a month or two ago in Old World Village and is right next to the parking lot closest to Gothard. A brand new Van's skate park just opened up between Old World and the Bus Depot and this new burger joint has a Skater theme to it. They have one single thing they serve here. Hamburgers. You can get that as a beef patty, veggie patty, turkey patty, or chicken patty. Single, double, with cheese, without cheese, with bacon, and with avocado. The End. Sides are French Fries, onion rings, or sweet potato fries. They also sell beer by the glass and pitcher. I didn't bother to see what type of beer they carry. My wife and I walk in the door and are greeted by the friendliest group of employees I've encountered in a long time. They truly seemed happy we walked in the door and were welcoming us to their business. The tiny eatery has both indoor and outdoor seating and as been fully renovated to a hip skater dude vibe. Moto-cross playing on the tv, pictures of skaters, and skateboards all over the walls. All the customers were skater dudes and dudettes. My wife and I both had the cheeseburger combo. For $6.00 you get a cheeseburger, fries, and a drink. I was really surprised when the burger was brought out and it was on a nice brioche bun with a wonderful beef aroma wafting into my nostrils. So, hubby and sonny boy wanted hamburgers for lunch and I wanted onion rings. So, off we went to Grinderz which is located at the Old World Village across the street from the H.B. Costco. We were warmly greeted at the order at the counter restaurant which is really casual and has a skateboarder vibe. We ordered: (1) Cheeseburger w/ Onion Rings My cheeseburger was juicy, seasoned very well and was very delish. My onion rings looked perfectly battered and prepared but lacked some seasoning. I was still happy with my scrumptious lunch. (2) Cheeseburger w/ French Fries Hubby really enjoyed his lunch selection. I tried the fries and they were scrumptious. (3) Double Bacon Cheeseburger w/ Onion Rings Sonny boy luved his burger but had the same thoughts about the onion rings as I. They needed some zest! As the old adage goes, if it wasn't for bad luck I wouldn't have no luck at all. After two failed attempts at finding something to eat on the way home from work, I began to lose hope. Things were looking bleak and it was starting to feel like a fast food type day which I really didn't want. Just as I was about to give up hope my lovely wife remembered Grinderz and the positive reviews we have read since their opening 6 months ago. All was no longer lost and in the words of Mighty Mouse "here they came to save the day". Grinderz is a fantastic little gem of a burger place tucked away in the corner of Old World Village in Huntington Beach off Center Drive. Despite it's small stature this place really packs the punch and the service is hard to beat. Immediately upon walking through the door we were greeted by the staff (owner) and immediately brought up to speed on the conversation they were having upon our arrival. Apparently one of the staff decided to cut a burger patty in half and stuff it into a taco shell and give it all the trimmings of a standard taco. Burger Taco Tuesday anyway.... we can all hold out hope. We were asked by if this was our first time eating with them and they were there to answer any questions. The menu is simple in nature, hamburger, cheeseburger, turkey burger, veggie burger or chicken burger. Each burger is cooked fresh on a grill and topped with 1000 island dressing, lettuce, tomato, pickle and red onion. My wife went with the cheeseburger combo and I went with the hamburger combo (minus tomato and pickle) but I opted to add bacon to mine as well for $1 more. The prices here are very reasonable at around $6.50 for a combo with fries and a drink. The burgers came out quickly and were cooked to perfection. You can taste the quality and freshness in the ingredients used and meat had great grilled flavor and they even came on a delicious brioche style bun. Today marked the first day in their new stamp card program as well so we became the official first card holders. Buy 9 combos and your 10th is free but you also save $1 on your 5th combo and $1 off your 7th which is very cool. Besides the burger the fries were seasoned nicely and tasted great with or without the use of ketchup. These fries are the real deal and I typically am not a huge fan of the thinner cut fries but these were good. Each staff member including the cook stopped by our table to see how everything was and ensure that we were having a quality experience. The owner chatted us up a bit and made small talk about them being a bit tucked away and hidden from street view but as he said "find them once and you never have to find them again" and how right he is. This place is everything a great burger place should be and the staff generally enjoys what they do and strives for quality. The place is small with around 6 inside table and a small bar area as well as a few patio tables outside. The entire decor is done in a skateboarding motif which is cool and the wooden sign hanging out front is even a skateboard deck which is very cool. They have a television both inside and out on the patio with various events on it and the place is very clean throughout. I really hope that the place has a long and successful road ahead and that people will go the extra step to seek them out because I assure you it is well worth the trip. We will be back soon that much I can guarantee. A great suggestion by my wife for a business I had forgotten about but I will definitely remember them strongly from here on out. They really do make a good burger packed with all sorts of goodies, so do yourself a favor and get a pigsty or burger! And it doesn't hurt to add some pigsty fries either, you won't regret it! The size of the burger is substantial and great for the price! And the fries are large enough to split between two if you feel like sharing. This place is pretty small so we called in our order and just picked it up. But if you want to eat there, there is a small eating area both inside and outside. I'd go as far as saying that this establishment makes better tasting burgers than the beastly burger chain, In-N-Out. ----The Food---- Cheeseburger Combo ($6.99)- A solid burger with depth in taste, thanks to their thick, well seasoned, griddled patty. A masterpiece that is big in taste and size. 50/50 Basket ($5.00)- Great onion rings! ---- Conclusion: 4.5 Stars. Tucked at the side of Old World HB next to the skate park, Grinderz is revealing a new standard for burgermakers in SoCal. I do wish the burgers themselves were bigger in size and that the combo prices could be cheaper, but between Pocket Burger and Grinderz, they have the best burgers in OC. I went to Grinderz on Saturday night with my sister and her bf. It was us being indecisive and we ended up here. Grinderz is located inside the Old Village. Upon entering you understand why it's called Grinderz. It's definitely owned by a skateboarder. Skateboard photos all over the place and even the counter has a half pipe looking ramp. The service was extra friendly. It wasn't packed. The menu is simple and fairly cheap. A burger combo is $6 for a burger, fries, and a fountain drink. The burgers here are cooked fresh. The buns are really soft. It has pickles lettuce tomatoes onions and thousand island. At this price you can't go wrong with the quality. Great work. The fries were nice and crispy. The onion rings cooked to perfection. So good. I would definitely come here again when I don't feel like spending all my money on a fancy burger. The moment I walked in I was greeted by the front counter employee (later learning his name is Dan). When I went to place my order with him, he gave some helpful pointers from the menu. I went with one of their burgers and added the egg and bacon. I would say the burger was close to perfect. My only complaint is I feel the patties are a bit thin. Otherwise, the taste was great, and the side of fries completes the meal! The restaurant is kind of small, but can still host small or larger parties.
