This turned into the "Cronuts" of the Hamptons this summer. I mean it was ridiculous -- the lines, the clamoring, who was going to be the first to bring to someone's house for brunch or dinner and on and on. Definitely amusing. Yes it is Michael Symon's son. And they had a an additional advantage: a Major PR push. I love that the place is uber successful. The donuts are tasty, and the the staff are very nice. I still have a soft spot for Dreesen's donuts though so maybe that is my issue for my 3 stars. read more

Great fresh donuts, highly recommend the glazed jelly donut, glazed and blueberry! The Latte was a little weak, the ice latte was good. Be prepared for slow service. But it was well worth it. I can already tell you I need to come back to get a fair eval on this place. I stopped in hoping to 1) get donuts and 2) get coffee/ use a restroom after a fun little North Fork and Ferry-crossing adventure. I only got donuts. No bathrooms here, even for customers. As an avid coffee-drinker, no bathrooms is kind of a no-no. So I just opted for donuts. They had a fair selection, maybe 8 types to choose from. They looked somewhat fresh, probably from the morning (it was afternoon at this point). They were brioche based donuts, no "cake" or "yeast" options I'd read about about. Oh well. Maybe those only go out on the weekends? Anyway, these donuts were around 3$ each, and were definitely more special than your donut chain variety. My favorite was the plain glazed donut, great flavor, solid and filling. The one that really blew my self and my guest away was the Boston creme donut... I'd never had a custard cream like that, but instantly knew it was the way the universe has always intended it to be! SO DELICIOUS. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. We also got the mocha chocolate coffee-something donut (points for anything coffee related and different!!) and the lemon poppy donut, which, while delicious, was too sweet/powerful in flavor for my taste. Was I blown away? No. Will I be back to try for those cake/yeast donuts or if I'm in the 'hood? Yup. Thank goodness I'm not too far away . read more

The donuts were great but the service was out of this world. I spilled coffee all over the place and they were so kind about it offered me another one. I'm not sure when I will be back to Long Island but I'm going to make sure to go back and give them a huge tip next year for their outstanding service. Another overpriced and unfriendly place. Went in to buy iced coffee for a friend and was told they didn't have any as their delivery of iced coffee didn't come in. They did however have hot coffee. I had the sheer pleasure of being in Sag Harbor for a retreat for two days. Typically towns like Sag Harbor in the off-season suffer from bad customer service. Not true for Grindstone coffee and donuts. The one reason that their service is stellar is because of Brett. Brett is the smiling face that greets you from behind the counter. He cheerily makes you a spicy mocha latte that will change your life. He's so happy to Guide you through the heavenly morsels of dough, lovingly prepared by the donut craftsman at Grindstone. Simply looking at their delicious fresh daily selection gave me a sugar rush.:-) From a Boston cream doughnut stuffed with Nutella to a warm apple cider cake donut that will literally make you see stars this location is not to miss. And the one who makes this experience over the top is the charming soul who oozes with mid-western charm. Although we only interacted for at most 15 minutes Brett made an immediate and lasting positive impression on me. You will not be sorry. Go to grind stone now. read more

Very disappointed with our visit. The donut was stale and when I spoke to the person behind the counter, I was told they baked them that morning. It was now 3:30 in the afternoon. Instead of saying let me get you a different one, the person just argued with me. Horrible customer service! Just because you are in the Hamptons doesn't mean you shouldn't offer quality to customers, with a smile. I live here full time and did visit frequently with family, but not anymore. read more

Wow, AMAZING coffee, and I didn't get a doughnut but they looked (and smelled!) incredible! Also, there was a woman doing tarot readings at table inside- she was super nice, crazy intuitive, and either way, what a cool fun thing to have in a coffee shop! Have had a family beach house out in Sag Harbor for years and tried Grindstone for the first time this summer....OMG!!! The donuts were delicious!!!!! Loved the Iced coffee as well!! A must try when out in Sag Harbor for sure!! Can't wait to get back there this summer!!! read more

The gelato was amazing, and at $5 for two scoops it comes at a pretty unbeatable price for the hamptons. I've paid a lot more for trendy gelato that tasted good but no better than the average ice cream. I ordered a scoop of dark chocolate (nice and rich) and a scoop of blackberry (the fruit flavor stood out). The iced chai latte was a hit as well. I'm used to chai lattes tasting saccharine, but this one was flavorful and just sweet enough. I haven't tried the donuts yet but I'll be going back soon to do so! read more

The donuts are incredible! The toppings and fillings are delicious with many unique choices but the actual donut blows every other I have ever had away! The maple is ridiculously good! If I'm anywhere near by, I go and bring lots home for friends and sometimes I'll go on a whim, an hour long drive whim! The lattes are perfect I've had the honey cinnamon and maple. The good news is that they are open late on weekends, when every other coffee cafe is closed. However, $3.00 for a small cinnamon sugar donut is outrageous. Granted it's as good as a Dreesens, but those are $1.25. Their cronuts might be worth $3.00, but not their small cinnamon donuts. I so want to like this place, but the competition up the block offers a way bigger selection of baked goods at reasonable prices. read more

Was really excited to try this place after I saw it featured on a TV show for their amazing donuts. Was really disappointed. The donut just simply was not good. The cake barely had any flavor. We decided to try this cute doughnut shop because we were staying close by. There were lots of doughnuts to choose from with some fun toppings and fillings. We ordered about 6 doughnuts, all different flavors. They were pretty good, but a little bit dry. We came late-morning, so maybe they had been out for awhile. The cashier was very friendly and there was convenient parking. They are a little bit pricey for doughnuts. read more

UM....THIS PLACE. It's a humble little venue tucked away in Sag Harbor. Small and nothing special to look at it, but some of the best coffee and ice cream I've had anywhere, ever. Try a cappuccino or signature maple latte...made way faster than at Starbucks and about a hundred times more delicious. The coffee was so amazing we bought several bags to take home for ourselves and as gifts. Then there's the ice cream. There's a larger ice cream shop a couple of blocks away (which I haven't tried), but despite the smaller selection at Grindstone, YOU HAVE TO TRY SOME. Each flavor is as unique (Nutella, Rosewater, Turkish Coffee infused with cardamom) as it is perfectly creamy and delicious. Was looking forward to finally having a decent donut place nearby. Had high hopes as it was distantly related to famed chef Michael Symon. My kids an I bought an assortment of six flavors. We didn't finish any one of them, which is unprecedented because we all love donuts. I was hoping it was going to be more like, say, Stan's in Chicago. That place has a delicious, traditional cake donut with a million toppings, glazes and filling. At the same time, you can get a simple powdered sugar or chocolate frosted. I really want this place to be successful, but I'm afraid it would take a complete overhaul of their donut formula. Start with something like Dreesens! If you plan to only sell to the other angsty suburban skate punks in Sag Harbor...you are all set, but if you are selling to the general public you better teach your staff to smile and deliver friendlier customer service.
