Good cold brew but the donuts were too dense and not flavorful enough. Granted we tried it a few days after opening but for $3.50 each, I wasn't impressed. Hopefully they work out the recipes as time goes on and next summer we'll see if it's better. read more

Donut choices were different than the average commercial donut place. I had a 'Churro Donut' and the husband had a 'Chocolate Guinness Donut.' They were ok; I thought they would have a filling, but they did not. We each had regular coffee, which were good. We may come back the next time we're out in Sag Harbour. read more

This place is good if you want to take an Instagram picture with your box of overpriced doughnuts but other than that it was pretty mediocre. The doughnuts were really dry and overly citrus flavored Almost like they use too much lemon flavor in the batter. All in all I probably won't go back because the coffee was nothing short of Dunkin, the doughnuts kind of sucked and are way too expensive. Go buy doughnuts from your local bakery. read more

Really cute place. The donuts and drink we got were good!! The girl working overcharged my friend, though. She thought my friend and I were paying together and charged him for my drink in addition to his order. She then charged me separately, but just for my donut and not my drink. I told her she forgot to charge my drink, and she seemed obviously flustered so I had a feeling something was up. She then said she figured it out and charged me the correct amount for my whole order, so I thought it was resolved. Once I got outside I talked to my friend and he noted how expensive it was. It was then we realized she charged him for my drink. We were a little annoyed because I think she realized this once I was paying and I made her aware she forgot to charge me for the drink she had my friend pay for. If she had told me she had charged him by mistake it wouldn't have been a big deal because she knew we knew each other (we were talking in line for a while debating what to order) & him and I could have settled it on our own. He technically paid for 2 drinks and one donut and I paid for 1 drink and 1 donut, but we only received 2 donuts and one drink, which is a little annoying. We should have gone back at resolved this because she seemed nice and probably would have helped, but we had already walked away when we figured out & had a meeting to get to. I really needed a good Donuts. I had high hopes for grindstone, however I found the donuts to be quite disappointing. Enormous quantities of sugar frosting, and the donuts were closer to a loose baked product than a fried donut. They need to focus on the quality of the donut itself before drowning them in frostings and toppings. If you're looking for a pure sugar fix perhaps this is for you but I'm not sure the term donut should be applied in this case read more

Incredible, moist, and delicious apple cider doughnut we've ever eaten! It had this amazing crunch on the outside when we bit into it, though it was still really moist on the inside. It was served warm with a dusting of sugar, and drizzled with an apple reduction sauce. Did I mention that it was amazing? We also got a hot chocolate. It had a deep chocolate flavor, and was just what was needed to warm up. The only thing that would've made it better was a dollop of whipped cream to cool it down just a bit. Grindstone is amazing! I got married a year ago in Montauk and used Grindstone Donuts for our donut wall. Guests are STILL talking about how good they were till this day! Throughout the entire process the staff was awesome and worked with me in regards to different flavors and ideas. Great and fast lattes. The price is appropriate for coffee drinks these days, especially in The Hamptons, but I do believe I was charged $1 for almond milk... I go ballistic for doughnuts so you know I'm hittin this place for desert after lunch. Head over there with the fam and cop a 12 rack of all different flavors. Some where fire others were not. All the doughnuts look elegant, glossy and tasty but once you put back a bunch, you realize that the taste only matches the look for a few of them. However, if you go home and toss um in the nuke for 20 seconds then shred a bong rip mid nuke, you're golden. Just be wary of the doughnuts that have such toppings as jam or anything of the gelatness kind such as the pb&j one as the substance turns to lava. I was lit as a fkin tree and scalded the roof of my mouth then sent the pastry flying across the room where it glued itself against my tiled kitchen wall where my cat continued to lap the glaze off. I provide the 4 star because I like the vibe of the shop and all the goods are fairly tasty as well as insta worthy. So I very very rarely write a review, in fact, I had to re download the Yelp app just because of how strange my recent interaction was at Grindstone. My beautiful bride and I are on our mini honeymoon in Sag Harbor and we walked to town for coffee. We saw grindstone and went right in. My wife ordered her usual ice coffee and I ordered my usual four shots of espresso on ice. My wife paid and I saw the change was only $3 from a $20 bill. I asked the barista how it was $17.50 and she acted as if I cursed her entire family and I was at fault. I simply asked how much the espresso was and replied " let's handle his civilly, you do not have to get hostile". Well after she printed the receipt she realized she double charged us. I said ok, no problem and she finished with, "this could have been handled much differently". So theirs my lame yelp hater story. I'd still go back, but I hope I don't see her behind the counter! Our family stayed in Sag Harbor three days and hit up Grindstone every single day haha! Great donuts and strong coffee (Stumptown) - can't beat that. It's brioche so it's chewy, just dense enough and delicious! Our favs were glazed, lemon poppy and boston creme but my kids loved the cinnamon sugar. read more

What makes great donut? Is Dunkin the layman's standby and measure? Or Donut Planet the "best in cream?" I'm honestly no donut aficionado, but I had some issues with this place. It was late in the day, almost dinner time. So I didn't have an opportunity to try the coffee. The nutella nut donut tickled my fancy, but my date insisted on the S'more. Now, when you have a cookie by a similar name as sold by those cherubic green-vested girls who attack you outside the supermarket, the concoction has toasted coconut adorning the top. And I like that. However, when you make the gooey chocolate, graham, and marshmallow treat over a campfire (or your husband's grill) the main draw is the sweet, sticky, gets-on-everything melted marshmallow. This donut had the chocolate, cake (graham?), And a small amount of white substance on the top. Peeking Into the huge picture window to the prep area, there were 2 huge containers of "Fluff." That's fine if you're rushed to get the sweet potato pie onto the table, when your uncle is stammering to start the Thanksgiving feast, already. But, I'm.sorry, if you are popping out gourmet donuts at a specialty shop in Sag Harbor, then high fructose corn syrup in a hydrogenated form does not cut it! I hesitated to go down to 3 stars. The cake was decent, chocolate was tasty. It was the meager topping that did not cut the mustard, er, marshmallow sweetness that warned a thumbs down on this pastry. But the essence of dough-nut is the quality of the crumb, i.e. the eponymous dough. Gem of Sag Harbor! I visited the hamptons with my husband and daughter this weekend and Grindstone coffee was easily the highlight of our trip. The barista with black hair was soooo friendly and made me the best mocha latte I've ever had, amazing Leaf foam design included! Lemon poppy donut was out of this world too.
