Not a bad restaurant. Refills were kinda slow to happen. The servers were mostly good. I thought about giving less stars because I was called a sir twice. The food was good and hot when it came out. The plates were very hot when they arrived. The restaurant was a bit dark but we did go at night. The decor was dark but nice. I think if they added a little more color and light it would be better. We didn't feel like we had to wait for anything, chips and salsas were never empty, and he even brought our tea refills with half sweet and half unsweet w/o us asking when he noticed I had earlier requested a separate cup of unsweetened to mix with. We visited Houston to see my 95 year old mama. Tex Mex is a must for me since nothing like this food exists in Reno, Nevada where we live. We got there early for a dinner with my lifelong friend. Our server was very attentive and understanding that we were early and just wanted to enjoy the experience that Gringo's offers. The Queso Loco w/chicharrones was an amazing choice for an appetizer. We don't eat that much anymore and the serving was so large we were able to share it with our dinner companions when they arrived. The Cadillac Margaritas were wonderful after a full day of travel from Reno. We enjoyed the chicken enchiladas and the sauces they provide with their chips. The service was impeccable. On this day I decided to Dine alone. I had to fast since yesterday. Upon arrival I was seated in a booth (my choice, my Server showed up at my table. I asked for a lunch menu. She replied no that Gringo' doesn't have a lunch menu. Then she said to me that "don't you come here". When my order came she asked me if I wanted anything else. I asked her where was the corn tortillas because I received flour. Then said went to the back to correct it. After a while the manager came back to see if his patrons had what they needed. After a 5k in Pasadena we (7 of us) all stopped by for a late lunch around 1pm. It's been years since I've been to a Gringo's and it's still as yummy as ever. This location is very festive and island like...which i liked. Server, Rebecca was quick and friendly. Food wise...everyone got something different and no one had leftovers. I got the Rosita...fresh and delicious (small side of queso --Yum) The drinks were fabulous...I got the cactus juice ---tasty...loved it. I tasted the Grand Cadiloso...??? very blue and very strong margarita! Wowza! The Gringo's ive been to before (Houston off 59S and in Texas City) have the soft serve ice cream...didn't see it here. I visited this location yesterday. My friends and I had a great time. From the time we walked in, the hostesses greeted us and quickly found us a table. The staff definitely practices the social distancing order - as there were other diners there but all were wearing masks (if they were not eating/drinking) as well as all of the staff. The dining area was clean and our waitress, "Kassy", came by to take our drink orders shortly after we were seated; she was very friendly. However, soon after she came back to advise that one of the drinks was not available and offered wonderful alternatives which we happily accepted. Our drinks were served very quickly and we thoroughly enjoyed them. We had Amaretto and Banana swirl magaritas with sugar on the rim and a Shirley Temple. YUM! We placed our orders for Chicken Enchiladas with spinach. But OH NO! Kassy came back soon after taking our order to advise there was no more spinach. So, I substituted zucchini instead and I was pleasantly surprised that it was good. My other guests order this item as is. Although we did not get what we initially ordered, Kassy was very quick to advise us and was very regretful when doing so. This exemplifies excellent customer service. We don't mind if there are issues - just notify us as soon as you know and we'll happily move forward. She checked on us throughout our meals and we really appreciated this. Gringos made an excellent choice in adding Kassy to their staff. She's awesome and we look forward to dining here again when we can. A little lime flavor, alcohol level appropriate. Chicken quesadilla is very popular here on Yelp and they're right. Good in its own right, but there are so many great options they offer. You can swap refried beans for a delicious black bean soup. For the peppers, you can swap in grilled jalapeños, or grilled serranos. Warning, this is a Texas portion, really big meal easily for 2. Also they think highly of it, it cost the same as my meal did. I dont even remember what I ordered, it was that unmemorable. Pollo something, Pollo Tampico I think. It was an ok Tex-Mex dish. I ordered it with black beans and got two servings, Left one untouched. The zucchini and other veggies on top were good. better than the chicken itself. I ordered it with no tortillas but the waitress instead and said "someone will eat them". I was having dinner with 4 other people. yea, they were untouched as well. Over all my experience wants all that great. It was super loud and They never brought me more chips!! What really made the night bad was the waitress mixing up our checks with another tables. My sister got charged $146 for just her and her two kids! The waitress said "let me see whats going on with that". We know what happened, she mixed the tickets up. We stopped in Houston on our way to Galveston and the local hotel worker recommended this place to eat. There were seven of us - but instead of giving us a table they put us in a circle booth -- felt very cramped but they brought a chair so one party member could sit in that freeing up a little room. Chips and salsa came out. They have a avocado bases dipping sauce that it really good! Tried the pineapple margarita - was good. They came and took our order but by the tome we actually got it we were filled up in chips ... luckily hotel had fridge. Our waiter was really nice ... but had deer in the headlight look on him when someone spilled water at the table --- napkins my man ... that's all we needed ;) It was hatch chilies time so we got some dishes on the specials menu and have to say ... none of them disappointed us. Went for a late lunch on a Friday and was pleasantly surprised since I have not been in awhile. There was only two of us and we were seated right away. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. They seemed to have a wonderful happy hour and cocktail menu and also new drink I had never seen. They have also changed their menu to include a lunch that was served on fridays. I had the southwestern eggrolls. Which were good but dry. They really needed the sauce which mayo based and very fatty tasting. Not worth ordering again. My date had shrimp and avocado salad and substituted the shrimp for chicken. The only problem with her salad was that there was very minimal avocado. Decided to give this place a try because of reviews I previously read. Since moving to Texas I have grown a love for TEX MEX. One thing I liked about this place is the fact you can add yourself on the waiting list before you get there. I was under the impression when you did that that it would be a quicker process. When I arrived the hostess told me I would still have to wait 20-30 minutes. No big deal I guess since it was a Saturday but I was still hoping I would get seated sooner. I'm not a fan of the parking. I ended up parking in front of another business that was not a part of the restaurant. With this place being popular there needs to be more parking available. The restaurant was a nice size. When you walk in there were people eating ice cream to the left side of the building. I ended up ordering a few drinks. The first drink was the Texas Tango. It was OK ... wasn't a bug fan because it had too much ice and water down quickly. I also got the THE SPARKLE which was delicious and then I got a watermelon margarita (I think) those last two drinks were strong and I left the restaurant feeling REALLY good. Since didn't have a huge appetite I ended up eating chicken quesadillas. The cheese was melted over the chicken perfectly. There were about 6-8 on my plate. The service was also good. For a place called "Gringo's" my expectations were certainly not high. For crying out loud, the sign is an altered "Welcome to Las Vegas" which made it extra cheesy, but probably more approachable for the average gringo who is intimidated by the more dive like places. But by the time I had left the door, I was instantly floored by an amazing experience that was not soon to be forgotten. While it may seem like Olive Garden's equivalent corporate chain to Mexican food, its certainly not on par with the El Torito's brand or even Chevy's. This particular location had it all: spacious seating, solid ambiance/decor, great for groups, extensive menu, good prices, free ice cream dessert (yes, I know), a full service bar, clean bathrooms, excellent service, and most importantly, superb food. I was so hungry that I wanted to try just about everything on the menu and being that I live in a city where affordable dining is $15 a person, this place was an absolute steal. The complimentary chips with salsa was a nice touch, as the chips seemed fresh out and not greasy but almost tasted as if they were baked. The various salsas provided were also good, though the salsa verde was a little too creamy but still really good. For an appetizer, I decided to order a border sampler that essentially included everything. What was slightly amusing was that shortly after the appetizer came, literally within 10 minutes our other 3 entrees came out and sprawled across our table like one big Mexican feast. The chicken quesadillas and southwest eggrolls were insanely good, as were the greasy chicken taquitos that were crisp and delicious. The family style fest was to the tune of 3 entrees which were El Presidente (Two cheese enchiladas, chile con queso, bean chalupa, taco with ground beef, and beans and rice), fajita combinacion, and the tamales platter with 3 tamales. Each of them were great, but the tamales were almost perfect and tasted almost like it melted in my mouth. All in all the food left me unbelievably stuffed (and incredibly satisfied) to the point where I was walking funny out the door. Things got interesting as I was taking pictures and the manager noticed I was very involved with the food. After some questions he concluded that I might have been "in the (restaurant) industry" and provided me a card with a discount for my next meal while offering to show me the kitchen. He shook my hand and proceeded to tell me that their ingredients were always fresh and they that they take their food seriously here to the point of attempting to keep the prices low enough so that people can continue to come back. The service was already excellent to begin with (we had a very witty and charming waiter who was extremely attentive), this was really just the icing on the cake. read more
