On arrival they told us it would be over an hour for a group of 9. We were okay with that since we had a large group. An hour and a half later a group of 15 was sat. I asked the hostess about our status. Our reservation "was missing". The girls knew this was a big mistake and promised a table right away. Fifteen more minutes go by... we are getting hangrier as we watched tables sit empty and slowly be cleaned. Another 25 minutes went by before we sat down. No urgency to right their mistake. We were so nice and understanding to the first mistake only for them to take forever to do anything at all. Drink refills, taking our orders, and the check. By the time we were done we didn't spend less than three hours there. The upside is the bartenders are so friendly as we kept coming inside for drinks. They were busting their backs trying to keep a full restaurant hydrated with tasty cocktails. Those bartenders' service and professional demeanor is what earned this restaurant two stars instead of one. The food was okay. Nothing mind-blowing. Would I wait an hour and a half again? No. Would I come eat here if there was no wait? Yes. I truly think this was a series of unfortunate events that would not make me tell others to avoid this restaurant, just be prepared just in case. read more

UPDATE! I would like to thank management for reaching out and extending an opportunity to correct the first experience (we had a long wait and never received a text for our table being ready) so they invited us back. My wife and I came back and our table was ready, the atmosphere was very calm and family friendly. The place always have an audience so that's a good sign, so when seated we were met immediately with chips and salsa and it was really really good. I didn't even try the red salsa because I was eating up all the green salsa which is good! The drink that I HIGHLY recommend is this orange juice mixed with lime and it is so GOOD!! I had like 4 rounds of it, it's NON-Alcoholic, then we ordered a Queso dip, this was another great choice! I love cheese so this was good! My meal was the steak, rice and cheese Encilida, everything was good and seasoned, even the side of guacamole was tasty and I'm not an avocado fan but it was tasty. I had lunch with my aunt and daughter on Saturday afternoon. We were sat immediately in a nice roomy booth. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. When our tea ran out of ice, he brought a cup of ice. Chips were served with complementary red salsa and creamy green salsa. The red wasn't that great - it had a tomato sauce taste to it. The green salsa was very good, not spicy though. We started with queso and the guacamole salad. The guacamole came with chicharrones which was cool. Some of them were a bit hard, though. The queso came with both pickled and fresh jalapeño slices. I got a cup of tortilla soup. It's a big portion. The chicken was tender and the broth flavorful. It had a nice chunk of corn and pieces of calabaza in it. The corn was sooo good. I ordered it with optional avocado and cheese which came on the side. My daughter liked her chicken quesadilla. It came with a little cup of queso and of course she poured it all over the top. The waiter asked if the rice and beans would be fine as her sides and offered fruit or fries. I asked if she could get rice and fruit and he delivered. My aunt and I also split El Capitan. We ordered it with both chicken and beef fajita. It came topped with a seafood sauce with shrimp and crawfish in it. Very good! Also served with 4 shrimp brochette. Our server also brought us both corn (my preference) and flour (my Aunt's preference) tortillas. They have free self serve soft serve ice cream available as well. read more

I frequent this location at least 3 times a year. I love Gringos. It's my favorite spot for tex-mex. I mentioned this to my boyfriend so he decided to take me for my bday. The young lady that sat us was really nice. Aimee (the server) approached the table and said "I'm not sure how long y'all were waiting but I was in the bathroom." I told her it wasn't that long and not to worry. She didn't seem very welcoming so my boyfriend did his best to lighten her mood by thanking her and being gentle. Who knows what people are going through these days. We believe in treating people with kindness. When she asked if we were ready to order, I carefully and throughly explained to her what I wanted. I asked the Marisco plate with everything separated, not the bowl. I even went to the point of saying that it comes with the chicken and shrimp separated from the rice and beans. When she told me beans didn't come with it but she would have them throw some in there, that seemed odd but I figured she understood what I was ordering. When the food came to the table it was the marisco bowl. When ordering I was sure to state that I did not want the bowl. When she came back to the table i politely told her that my order was incorrect. I explained to her (as I did when initially ordering) what I wanted. Her response was "you should've clarified that babes" in a very condescending nice nasty tone. Taken aback, I told her no worries and decided to keep the food. She asked if I wanted them to make it over, I said no worries. In an apathetic tone she he then said "Clearly you're upset, was because I called you babes? Was it my tone?" I was not upset I just wanted move on from the situation. After I kept telling her everything was fine and she kept talking and quite frankly annoying the both of us, I told her to send the food I ordered back because I no longer had an appetite. She ended with " wow you are a very strong woman." Not sure with me being a strong woman had to do with anything. She never returned to the table which was fine with me. I'm assuming she went to tell her side of the story to a manager (pink shirt) and a few employees because the manager approached the table and other employees kept looking over. I'm sure whatever she said was in favor of her. The manager came over and asked if there was anything he could do for us. We told him that we wanted to go boxes and the check. My boyfriend lost his appetite as well and decided to take his food to go. Just out of curiosity, I explained to the manager what i ordered and he immediately stated that I want the pollo marisco. I said thank you and he told us that he took care of our appetizer and we left. Although I did not state that I wanted the pollo marisco (because I couldn't identify it on the menu) I carefully explained to Aimee what I was trying to order. I stated multiple times that It was typically served on a plate with chicken and not in a bowl. As a server, don't assume you know what your customer wants if you're not for sure. Her tone was what ultimately made us leave. I don't like confrontation or conflict. Her tone was callous. Her body language was off and very accusatory. Aimee needs more training. Telling a customer " you should've clarified that babes" is inappropriate. Especially when I gave a very thorough description of what I wanted. Terms of endearment don't bother me as I'm a southern woman, it was the sarcasm behind it and the tone in which it was said accompanied by an eye roll. Gringos is my fave. Easy to access from the I-45 on a trip with the kids to Johnson Space Center. Got our Tex-Mex fix with quick seating and good service. The food was fresh and tasty. We liked the combo fajitas and the portion was generous! The chips were good and did not break easily while scooping up our yummy queso! Plenty of seating for larger family groups. After a two and a half hour flight from Chicago, my fiance and I decided to have Tex-Mex food as our first meal together in Texas. The flashy iconic sign piqued our interest and luckily, Gringo's Mexican Kitchen did not disappoint. Our meal started with complimentary nachos with salsa and a creamy sauce (I am not sure what the name of this sauce is, but it is delicious)! We then ordered combination plates; I chose the Presidente and my fiance chose the Mariachi 2.0. I was floored by the amount of food we received. My order came with two beef tacos, guacamole, queso chip, Mexican fried rice, two enchiladas, and refried beans. My fiance's order was also very very large compared to the amount we paid. Overall, I highly recommend this place because you will definitely get a lot for your buck. The food is also very appetizing as well. read more

This is a cool lively place off IH45 that serve up some amazing Tex-Mex food. We got the grilled chicken enchiladas, Tampico (grilled chicken breast with veggies, rice, beans and tortillas) and Pollo con Queso. They were all delicious and well prepared. I have never, in 3 years, had a bad experience here (off 45). The service is always nice, never a wait (it's HUGE), and the food comes out quickly (but not too quickly). The best part (aside from the drinks) are the free chips and salsas free for the table. The roasted red salsa and the avocado salsa (it's not a quac) are delish and actually blend well together. Love coming here for good food, drinks and atmosphere. On a day like today where the weather's perfect, bathing on their outside patio while kicking back a few drinks is priceless. I've been here several times, tried several different things, and have not been disappointed. The empanadas and marisco bowl are my favorite. The sampler is not bad either since you get a variety of the most popular items. As far as drinks, can't go wrong with the XR Margarita made with blood oranges and passion fruit liquer- so fragranted as well! For me, I like to test a Mexican restaurant starting with their salsas and chips. If this isn't good, I can't expect the rest of the food to be either. Came with friends and had a horrible experience. Our waitress LayLay had an attitude from the get go and was rude the entire time. For some reason it was only our table because she was freaking nice to her other tables and rude to ours. And she only 3 tables. Usually when you come and sit and eat all the chips and salsa then go through a couple of baskets of chips and when we asked for a refill she told us "y'all need to hold on I'm busy it's going to be a minute.At one point my salad dressing didn't come with my salad and we also asked to wait for our kids drinks to come with the food and she said to us "okay well is there anything else yall need from the kitchen because that's a lot of going back and forth for me". Never in my 7 years of coming here have we had a server as bad as we had last night. We usually enjoy a night at gringos but last night was just horrible. We did tip even though our service was less than on par and the manager was apologetic. However apologies doesn't make up for the embarrassment and frustration we had to face with our young children at that! If I could give them half a start I would because that isn't how you treat anyone at any restaurant establishment. Very unhappy with the way my group was treated here. We asked to sit in the patio because I had my service dog, which was not a problem in the beginning. We ordered drinks, appetizer, and placed orders for our meal. The server brought my dog water and as our food was brought out, an employee ( not sure if she was a manager or what as she kept referring to her GM that she could bring it for me to speak to) came out and demanded to see my dogs papers or vest or he needed to wait in the car for me because it is illegal for him to be on their patio. (100 degrees in Houston). Unfortunately I did not have his papers as I am traveling to visit friends and forgot to grab them. I really do not understand why it suddenly became a problem halfway through our dining experience, and am frankly apauled anyone would suggest leaving a dog in a hot car. This human insisted the health department would fine them for allowing a dog on the patio. They obviously are not clear on any laws and were incredibly disrespectful. Gringo's was a monthly (sometimes more) dine out option for the family but after the last two pick up orders I'm not sure we will be back. Last month our order of fajitas had no tortillas. We ended up running to Kroger to get some since that was closer than driving back to Gringos. Monday night my husband called to order and was told about a fajita special for $36- so he ordered it. When I arrived to pick up the meal it was $54. When I asked for that to be checked on the guy was rude and said there is a $13 up charge for half steak. Ok, however, that was never mentioned to my husband when he was ordering it- no willingness to communicate with me or try to resolve the problem- needless to say I left with no food and the lack of communication and poor customer service will put our business elsewhere. read more

If I could give this place zero stars then I would. This review is specifically for the Gringos in Spring Texas. Let me start off by saying that I have been in the restaurant industry as a host, then a server, and ended my career as a bartender. I have NEVER ever experienced such terrible service nor have I GAVE this bad of a service either. My family and I stepped out for what was supposed to be an enjoyable night. We waited about an hour, when we were told 45 mins. Okay, it's understandable, after all it was a friday night. Then, we ordered two of the WORST pineapple margaritas I've ever drank in my life. The gringos in Katy knows what they're doing, so I would advice the bartenders to reach out to them. They really need guidance on how to make a margarita. To make matters worse, after waiting a whole hour, we get a text that our table is ready. As we approach the front, we are not greeted at all. We are standing around, and notice that there is another family standing and waiting as well. We were both not greeted and told that our server would come and get us. No smile, no apology. Nothing. After waiting a solid 10 mins, just standing around, confused as ever... we approach probably the worst seating I've ever experienced. We're brought outside to two tables, and told that we would need to sit here. Now mind you, these tables do not move, so my Father In Law sat at one table, while me and my Mother In Law sat at the other. Pretty bad, but still doable. Then, we are asked for our drinks by someone who wasn't our server. We wait, and wait, and wait, then finally our server, who was NOT apologetic in the slightest, asks us what we ordered to drink. So, she comes back with the drinks and I decide to order my three children food since we are now at an hour and a half. These kids are starving, right? Okay, so we wait for their food and another 10-15 minutes passes by, then we order our food. Well, the night gets even better... they completely forgot to make my kids food, and bring out our food. We're basically done with this whole experience at this point. What made everything really bad was that not a single person apologized to us. My FIL was clearly ticked off and our waitress did nothing to make the night better. There was not a manager informed by all of the mistakes, not a manager coming by the tables to make sure everything was up to par, nothing. As we looked around, we could see the other people were just as unsatisfied as we were. Maybe this was just a bad night, but y'all seriously need to up your customer service game. Start by smiling, greeting, and making sure your customers are happy. We are paying for a service and expect to be treated with some dignity and respect. read more

I just had the BEST lunch ever!!! The food was delicious as always but what stood out was JASON, our server!! He was great!! He was friendly and attentive and on point. This man literally read my mind at the end of our meal, he brought me a cup for my drink, extra chips and salsa for my leftovers and a container for my beans!!!! All without me asking him too!!!
