We had to wait a little bit before being seated, which was fine, it was crowded. When sat we were greeted warmly by our server and she gave good recommendations. The place is bright, clean and has a jovial feel to it. We loved the wings a lot 10/10! But, the catfish: 100/10, they seasoned them perfectly and fried them nice and hard. Ohhhh the Gritz were good too... It called the Gritz Cafe for a reason. My husband had catfish's poor boy with french fries. The fries are kind of thick and seemed undercooked. My husband love fries and it was the first time he said he didn't like them. He finished his poor boy but he didn't love the food like I did. I had a sweet potato waffle with shrimp and grits. It was so delicious. I knew I wouldn't be able to finish both things so I wrapped them to go. As I'm sitting in my hotel waiting for a microwave. I opened up my leftovers and they're just as good cold. I never had cold grits before but babeeeeee. It is still bomb. The sweet potato waffle don't even need syrup. Those chunks of sweet potatoes in there. Why! Why y'all doing me like this? I got the Holy Trinity for pick up. The goal was to eat it at home but I wanted to taste it straight out of the oven. I took a few bites in the car and ended up eating the majority of it. 1. But I went back to try. I ordered the combination plate with two catfish, two wings, grits and eggs and a waffle. The catfish was okay (lacked flavor and a little small) and the wings were okay and small but far better than Wing It wings. The waffle was okay (nothing like Roscoes or Glady's Knight). Went there on 3/19/26 during my vist from Queens NY and there was a 45min-1hr wait for a table indoors, however the waitress suggested to order to-go plates and utilize one of the four tables outside, Which we did. I ordered the catfish/chicken and grits combo with a sweet tea. This came with toast, a waffle and eggs of your choice. This was possibly the BEST catfish I've had seasoned and fried to perfection not greasy nor fishy just delightful. The waffle was fluffy and paired well with both the fried chicken and catfish. The grits were both cheesy and satisfying. I would rate everything a 10/10. We even wanted to revisit Sun before our return back to NY but was disappointed to learn they are closed on Sunday. I ordered the chicken and waffle meal and upgraded to the pecan waffle. While my meal was good, it wasn't all that I expected. The pecan waffle was just okay, i feel like a great waffle shouldn't need syrup on them, that it should already have a nice flavor, that was not the case for me. The potatoes that I had on the sides lack seasoning and I was unable to finish them. I had specifically asked for my daughter's food to be served first, but she was actually the last to be served, which was disappointing. Additionally, after the long wait to be seated, we waited about another hour for our food to arrive. The prices were reasonable, and the food was okay. However, the customer service was excellent. I even left my bag behind and had to return later--everything was still intact, which I really appreciated. It's a small, quaint place, and given that it was a holiday weekend, I assume the longer wait times were due to the high volume of guests. That being said, if people are willing to wait over an hour to eat here, that says a lot about the food. I'd definitely recommend checking it out for yourself. I went to Gritz Cafe on a Saturday afternoon. The restaurant is nestled in an affluent area of the historic Westside of Las Vegas. There is parking on both sides of the street. I went inside, and the hostess took my number and said I would receive a text once a table opened. I returned to my car until I received a text stating my table was ready and I had 8 minutes to arrive. The inside of the restaurant had Afrocentric paintings on the wall and classic R&B, like " Nobody" by Keith Sweat, featuring Athena Cage playing. An attentive, pleasant, and no-nonsense server named Angel took my order. I wanted a waffle, so I asked Angel, " What's popular?" She said the classic waffles are popular but recommended the sweet potato waffles as the most popular--an excellent call! I ordered the sweet potato waffles, cheese eggs, four catfish fillets, grits, peach cobbler, and sweet tea! It took a while to get my order, and I saw a family who sat after me get served before me. However, I had time to spare, so I waited patiently to receive my food. My server Angel approached my table and asked, " Did you eat?" I was in thd middle of slurping my sweet tea and said, " Ummm mmmm." Angel frowned up and snapped, " Ummm mmmm" making a face that showed she felt my wait was unacceptable; she seemed to take my wait personally and immediately walked to the back to I presume tell the cook to put some pep in their step because I have a customer who's been waiting too long. It was a funny moment but I appreciated Angel ensuring that I got taken care of promptly; it shows that she values her customers! When I got my food it was worth the wait, especially the sweet potato waffle! The waffle was soft and golden, and it contained chunks of sweet potato inside! It tasted so delicious that I can't return to eating regular waffles again! I enjoyed all of my food, including the scrumptious peach cobbler, and the hostess gave me several refills of sweet tea! When I got a to-go plate for my catfish and peach cobbler; the friendly hostess brought me a box and a small Styrofoam cup full of sweet tea to take! Another friendly female employee or possibly the owner bid me farewell as I exited the door! The food was mouthwatering, and Gritz Cafe is one of my favorite restaurants! They treated me like I was a VIP, and the free refills and huge portions provided excellent value! I highly recommend Gritz Cafe, if only they were open longer than 7 am to 3 pm daily! read more

I went there around 10 am on a Thursday, and I was prepared to wait because I had heard it gets busy. To our surprise, there was no wait for two people. We walked in and were seated immediately, and our drink orders were taken right away. The waitress came over and was very friendly and informative about the menu. We tried the fried chicken wings, catfish, fried shrimp, grits, yams, collard greens, hot link, and cornbread. The food came out quickly. Everything was delicious. Not everywhere can make grits, but these were spot on. My favorites were the fried chicken, yams, and grits. I was too full for dessert, but check it out for yourself. The food is affordable for two people; the bill was $60. I will definitely be back in the future midweek because I know they can get very busy on weekends. Only good things to say about this place.
