We dropped into the Grizzly Grill upon their Saturday night opening at 5pm. We each opted for the early bird special although we're not retired, walker-enabled, old folks in an ancient El Dorado Cadillac. Our dinners included a minuscule minestrone soup (just put in a cup!), salad, bread, and dessert (one scoop of vanilla ice cream with or without chocolate syrup). My steak was very acceptably good, not fantastic, and my wife's mushroom pasta was also good, not fantastic. That being said, it was still a solidly good meal. We give them props for fresh ingredients, a pleasant wait staff and a nice knotty pine dining room. Not a bad place to get a meal on a nice summer evening. Go have a try yourself. This review is not about the food. The food here is always GOOD!!! We had 5:30pm reservations on a Monday night. Arrived about 5:15pm and were seated with menus. After looking at the menu and just before we were ready to order the table next to us, and apparently locals were seated and asked for the early bird menu. We asked our waitress what is an early bird menu?? She said that it was a special menu for meals before 6:00pm and asked if we would like to see it. I watched as several tables were seated before 6:00pm and NONE were given the special menu!! I find this VERY RUDE!! If you offer a special it should be offered to ALL not just those in the know!!! In our opinion, having lived in Clio for 5 years, this is the BEST food and service in our Hidden Sierras! The owners are wonderful people, down to earth, and we love them and their food! EVERY meal we have ever had here has been served with excellent service, friendly and professional servers but, the BEST review is of the out of this world, and absolutely delicious food! OK... So have only been here 3 times. I am a big prime rib fan, which is what I have had all 3 visits and is AMAZING! I will of course return, and as soon as the waiter mentions they have prime rib he can take the menu and just throw it away... If your disappointed, you did not like good prime rib! read more

This Grizzly is by far one of the best, most consistent, restaurants in the area. Not just the food is amazing but the service is awesome. There isn't one thing on the menu I can say is my favorite because everything is amazing. If you happen to go on a Friday, the clam chowder is a must try. read more

We came Blairsden to get away from the fires in Sonoma county, stayed down the road and wanted a good dinner, reviews looked good so we tried grizzly. We are fortunate to live in an area that has a lot of great restaurants and grizzly grill is right up there with the best of Sonoma County, my wife and I were blown away by how good the food was, and the service was amazing and very friendly, I had the chicken parm and my wife got the seafood pasta, I thought mine was the best chicken parm I have had and she said her food was the best she had had haha so we highly reccomend going here if your in the area. Myself and two friends are from a few hours away and are on a weekend trip here in the area and this restaurant was suggested to us. I cannot say enough amazing things about the service and dinner experience we had here. We are here on off season and didn't realize 8 pm was closing time for every restaurant but this place came highly recommended by our hotel concierge (stayed at The Chalet Lodge). They were closed when we arrived and Randy, the amazing owner called so many other local places to ask for us, who was open and still running their kitchen. She also offered before that to serve us their soup, make salads and fresh bread and drinks. We didn't want to intrude but ultimately decided to stay. We are so happy we did. We had the almost amazing soup (I had two bowls), a delicious Caesar salad, followed by apple crisp, cheesecake, and cocktails. Incredible service is something I cannot rave enough about. Randy was an absolute joy to be served by. She and her husband were so gracious to stay open for us, make us a delicious dinner and then truly befriend us and socialize with us. I can't say enough good things about this really lovely restaurant (beautiful inside) and the amazing food, and the owners but I will absolutely be back to this sweet little area and eat here every single time. Grizzly Grill gets a 3 1/2 + . . . and with rounding up to 4 stars! Grizzly Grill was the very first restaurant that I ever visited in the Graeagle-Blairsden-Plumas Pines area. That first visit back in 2006 was very memorable, and left me with a pleasantly surprised reaction to just how nice dining in this 'Mountain Village' area could be. That first visit to Grizzly Grill was a solid 4 star overall dining experience. However, as I have been coming back to the area very regularly since 2006, this has provided the opportunity to check out pretty much all of the other dining alternatives in the Graeagle-Blairsden-Plumas Pines area, as well as to make several return visits to the Grizzly Grill. Some subsequent visits have been a little inconsistent, which is primarily why I've scaled back this rating to a 3 1/2, but with the benefit of the doubt rounded back to a 4. There has been some inconsistency over the past several years both with the quality and taste of the menu selections, as well as a couple of visits when the service left a bit to be desired. Nonetheless, I will continue to return to Grizzly Grill even though it may no longer be my first choice of restaurants in the area. I do enjoy variety, however, and like to frequent and support all of the local family-owned and operated establishments. I want to keep giving Grizzly Grill the chance to continue to try to live up to the memory of that first visit back in 2006. Grizzly Grill has 2 main dining rooms, with a smaller 3rd room in between the 2 main rooms. This middle room also has a small bar (with TV?, I think, at least that's my recollection). I usually choose to ask for seating in one of the main dining rooms rather than the bar as these rooms are more roomy and more comfortable. I've enjoyed some nice Seafood (Halibut), as well as some very well prepared Chicken and Pasta dishes. I've found the Beef selections to be somewhat inconsistent. The Wine List Is not what I would describe as extensive, but I have always been able to find a satisfactory selection. Service has generally been fine, except on 1 or 2 occasions. read more

This is a place that you think your dreaming. Its hard to believe this wonderful restaurant is in our part of the world. Portola, California. I love this place. The food shines. No matter what I order it always is great. From Lamb Shanks to the Rib Eye Steak with Gorgonzola butter is my favorite. The only think I did not like is some of the appetizers are way to small for what they charge. But they are so good. We stopped by this restaurant about 20 minutes to closing and were greeted with a smile. Some places in this area are not that nice about late dinners. Boy we were pleasantly surprised! Food is great! The chef, Brenda P. Even came out and asked about food. I had some prawns that were so juicy and tasty, your taste buds just hum. My husbands steak was done to perfection and his potatoes had great flavor. Kudos to Brenda, she's a great cook. Prices are high but good quality usually is. I would suggest some tablecloths or pads for chairs to help soften the atmosphere. Everything is that wood cabin look that kind of clashes with the menu of fine dining. That and the chairs aren't that comfortable. Otherwise recommend for a nice meal out. read more

Stopped by for lunch on NYE, thank god they were open. Was in search for a burger and that's exactly what we got! The burgers came on a house made bun and they're huge! We had the eureka and the chipotle burgers, both were cooked perfectly medium rare and delicious. Soup of the day was clam chowder.. it was good, not great. The decor is adorable and very cozy! Also ordered the locally brewed Ambush IPA, which was amazing. Our server Shannon later told us The Brewery Lair was just up the street.. be sure to stop there - new favorite brewery by far! Completely unprofessional - Guaranteed to Ruin your big event. I ordered from Lynn the owner/chef for our wedding. Warning number one should have been her horrible communication via email or phone, it took her a month to respond (thankfully I called far in advance). I had come to Mountain Cuisine based on our wedding venue owner's referral - who by the way will no longer refer her after our event. It was suggested to us to request to-go entrees because our number of guests was under 50, the venue owner had done this before and offered Lynn as the referral because she was willing to be flexible with a budget. My mother and I communicated our budget and expectations to Lynn over the phone and in person. The two dishes we selected were great in the restaurant, Grizzly Grill (no free tastings by the way, my mother, mother-in-law and I were charged full price for it, after traveling from afar I might add). The entrees we chose were the Grill's specialties so it's a mystery to me how a chef can serve one of their trademark dishes raw upon arrival to an event. After discovering that the fish we ordered was served raw my mother calmly attempted to call Lynn hoping the issue could be remedied somehow. Lynn rudely communicated that she had no time to talk and shortly hung up thereafter - meanwhile our guests who ordered the dish had no meal, nor did I, at my own wedding. A few guests fell briefly sick and Lynn left us no assistance for her ill mistake...we ordered pizza instead to curb our hunger. Post wedding my mother and the owner of our venue attempted to discuss the situation with Lynn, after many unreturned calls she insisted on blaming raw fish on us - which I still don't view as a valid excuse by any means simply because it makes absolutely no sense. We requested that she simply reimburse us for the cost of the pizza and call it even. Her words to my reasonable mother were, amoungst many other nonsensical statements, "If you would have spent more money we could have made things work." Despite the previous conversations about budget that she was previously so glad to accommodate. My apologies but those are not the words of a business professional nor that of someone who titles themselves a chef. Her unwillingness to take any responsibility for her grave mistake is what has lead me to write this review. Might I add that any call made to Lynn has been in a calm manner and with the most truthful account of our experience. At this point we're not upset exclusively about expense (even though most of the wedding party had no meal and the cost of pizza was on us) we are in a head-spin over her immature attitude and lack of care regarding her horrible service. It's very frustrating that she seems to have selective amnesia regarding any pre-event discussions had. Bottom line - Be weary of this moody and unsatisfactory chef. read more

Apparently the Grizzly Grill goes up and down with the chefs who come and go. Right now, the chef is awesome, and we had a terrific meal. We shared a Blue Wedge salad, which could not have been better. It was made with dark green romaine lettuce--a whole half head--crumbled blue cheese, bacon bits, crumbled eggs and tasty tomatoes (amazing in March!). Our main course was the Mahi Mahi special. It came with soup, salad and garlic mashed potatoes, all terrific. The fish was wonderfully grilled on the outside, tasty and moist on the inside. They topped the meal off with a scoop of vanilla ice cream with a drizzle of classic chocolate sauce. This is a marvelous diner, with the woodsy feel of summer camp. The staff was friendly. Food is good as ever here! I'm trying to remember the last time I had a less than fantastic meal here, nothing comes to mind. I had the Australian fish special and the portion, blackening and sauce served with the perfectly prepared meal is so good, I wish I'd ordered a serving for leftovers. It was also prime rib night so my dad and husband both had that and were very delighted with their cuts of meat and the medium rare temp requested was executed flawlessly. We always look forward to eating here starting from back in the 90s and we're pleased the tradition can continue after Lynne sold her business. It's the go to spot to know you'll get a terrific meal and if you go before 6pm there's a complete dinner option including salad and desert if that's your thing. Yum! read more

This restaurant ROCKS!!! My wife and I went there last night for the first time. The braised lamb shank entree and the fettucine carbonara from the full menu were both OFF the CHARTS!! Caeser salad was perfection...a great dressing, balanced garlic with anchovies. Chris and his team in the kitchen are creating some amazing dishes!! And the fabulous service we got from Randi, Sarah and staff was very much appreciated! This will be our "Go To" restaurant whenever we come to the area.
