(They must save via license plate number). They always answer their phones, are kind and have fast service. I spent my lunch break looking for a place to get my State Inspection done. After being quoted 1.5 hours (maybe), going to a different business, chasing down an employee and being told the "State Inspector isn't there and I don't know when they will be back", I about gave up. Before seeing the "Groovy Lube" sign. I pulled in, was immediately greeted. The staff was extremely friendly, professional, and VERY quick. While I waited (maybe 10-15 mins?) I sat inside Thrive Craft House. Which is connected to The Groovy Lube. I ordered a coffee and was greeted with smiling faces. The coffee at Thrive Craft House was delicious! They offer many types of Draft Beer, Coffee, and food. I cannot wait to go back! The customer service I received at both locations exceeded my expectations. My wife had been using Groovy for fifteen years or more (well before I moved to Austin and met her), and they seemed to be competent and honest. After our last experience, they aren't getting near any vehicle we own. I just spent the better part of my day (and made four trips to AutoZone) to untangle the mess they made of our Expedition the last time they changed its oil, back in July. On our road trip last week, the oil life monitor indicated it was time for an oil change. The day before Thanksgiving, I took it up to the Walmart up the road from us. They took it back, looked at it, and returned it to me along with receipt for $0 with a note on it that said "SERVICE REFUSED" due to the cross-threaded drain plug. This week my wife took it up to Groovy so that they could fix their foul-up. Neither of us even considered they'd do anything less than make it right since they had performed the oil change that led to the cross-threaded drain plug. Alas, that was not to be. They bobbed and weaved like Joe Frazier trying to avoid George Foreman, and essentially told her that Walmart must have messed it up, and it wasn't their fault. Seeing as to how I didn't ride in here on a head of cabbage, and I've done countless oil changes myself, I know good and well that one doesn't cross-thread a drain plug and get it stuck TRYING TO TAKE IT OUT. That happens when you put it in crooked and apply way too much torque rather than stopping to ask yourself "why in the world am I having to work so hard to get this darn thing in?" Okay, maybe the folks at Walmart actually pulled the drain plug and cross-threaded it putting it back on. But if they'd done that, they would have drained the engine and had to refill it. Seemed kind of unlikely that they'd tell me they refused to service it and not charge me. If they were trying to be dishonest, I would expect they would charge me and wouldn't say anything, leaving the problem to drive off the lot (sort of like [ahem] Groovy Lube). Well, I know from reading Groovy Lube's online reviews (spoiler alert: I'm not the first person to have their drain plug cross threaded) that they put green stuff on the drain plug and filler cap so they can see if anybody has messed with things since they serviced it. Well, whaddya know, the green stuff is on the filler cap, showing it hasn't been tampered with. It was clear that Groovy wasn't going to make things right, so I decided to fix things myself. I headed over to AutoZone for the first time to pick up what I needed. After getting the Expedition up on the ramps, I took a look at the oil filter. The date on it matched the Groovy Lube oil change. After a considerable amount of effort involving a breaker bar, a hammer, and a screwdriver, I finally got the drain plug out. The threads closest to the head were totally ruined. I can't imagine that happening without somebody using an impact wrench to tighten things. Once I got the new drain plug in, I moved on to the oil filter. There wasn't enough room to use my band oil filter wrench to get the filter off, so I headed back to AutoZone (the second trip) for an appropriately-sized end cap wrench. Got back under the Expedition again, but something wasn't right. The end cap that I purchased for an STP S2 filter (the correct filter for our Expedition, FYI) was obviously larger than the filter. Hmmm. This filter is a Valvoline VO-88. I wonder if that is the equivalent of an S2? (Spoiler alert - it's not. It's the equivalent of an STP S10060. Let's check Valvoline's application guide. (Spoiler alert [1 of 2]: Nope. The VO-88, which is listed toward the top of the first page, isn't listed as being compatible with ANY Ford products. From this point on things went better. I got everything put together, filled it up with oil, and headed to AutoZone for the fourth time to drop off the used oil. So, in conclusion, if you like to have incompetent folks service your vehicle, use incorrect parts, use waaaaaay too much torque on your drain plug (leaving you with a potentially expensive repair to a critical part of your vehicle), and then lie to you about their foul-up, hoping you don't have the mechanical knowledge to call them on it, hey... Groovy is your place. read more

We purchased Groupon for full synthetic oil change which supposed to be $80 but with Groupon discount we paid $43.99. When we got there, They were quick to put our car in line for oil change service. She offered us to use premium full synthetic oil change which would last longer for our car. We said that's ok but we weren't aware that they won't accept our Groupon discount at all! She said oh we can't accept your Groupon discount for full synthetic oil change. use it next time and charged us a $165 for our oil change! I do understand that we accepted her offer for premium full synthetic oil change, but they should've told us about the price when they offered us different oil ( especially during this pandemic time and we are all financially struggling) We even asked if they can use our discount and we pay the difference by credit card but she said no can't do , use that coupon next time ! Well, then what was the point of us driving down there for 30 min to get our oil change done and pay 2X more for something that they offered us without telling anything about the price or not even accepting our Groupon discount ?! After being a couple thousand miles over my suggested oil change point I finally decided to come into Groovy Lube because of the proximity to my apartment. This was also one of the only places that actually answered the phone and enabled me to come in within the hour with no wait. I originally planned on just getting a basic oil change, but after arriving and getting into the bay I was sold on the highest tier oil change which ended up being $120. While I don't typically don't like the idea of spending this much, Donna made it clear that the was the best option for longevity. Not only did it allow me to go 12,000 miles, but it was also of higher quality. She said that I am also able to come in and get fluids topped and oil checked every couple thousand miles as well. While I was here I also got an air filter replaced which was done very quickly. Overall, I had a good experience and as long as the products work as well as stated then the 5 star review is deserved. John and Donna made this experience better and they both very knowledgeable. read more

Thanks for destroying my car, Groovy. A total loss. Folks, I've lived in Austin for many years, sometimes living in other parts of the world, yet finding myself coming back to "my city". I started going to Groovy back in 1993. Long time fan. Recently, I took my truck in for a simple oil and filter change. They forgot to put oil back in. Not 3 miles down the road, my engine had a total explosion break down. I had it towed back to the shop where they tried to convince me I must have "hit a pothole" which caused the....wait for it...wait for it....hole in the bottom of the oil pan which caused the engine to internally break apart. What?! Why are all the parts around the oil pan intact then? That oil pan is up in there! And what kind of pothole is this?! Then to add more insults to my intelligence, I was told, "Yeah, you can replace the entire engine for $9,500. Or, just sell the car for scrap metal. It's worth about $250." WHAT?! Let me pull out the $9,500 I've got in loose change here. HEY! How about "Sorry! We'll make this right!" Utter b*#%sh*t. I used to be such a huge fan that I would not take my car anywhere else. I return from being away for a while, and this is how much has changed. You destroy my car, I lose work (I'm outside sales), dealing with the insurance who says, "we don't cover that", and what? Second visit. Precious was just fine. This rime as soon as I left my car began to smell like burning oil. Immediately. Took it back the next day and the manager tried to tell me the (clearly) oil on the engine was "probably freon". Then referred me to the "Groovy" automotive repair shop. Now I need to take my car for repairs aftWe paying $145 for the highest end oil change offered, and having them manage to damage a gasket, or something to that effect. If you come here, get ready for the shake-down. I didn't believe other reviews and paid the price. The other day I went in for a state vehicle inspection. While I was waiting, a mechanic came out and asked the customer next to me if he wanted a "air filter replacement" for an additional $20 along with his inspection. The guy agreed, and the mechanic went into the shop, and came back out five minutes later and handed the guy a passing report. A short while later, the mechanic on my car came out and repeated the same question. I didn't think I needed it, so I politely declined. Two minutes later I received a "failed inspection" on the basis my "gas cap wasn't holding pressure." I was told I could come back and retest "for free" within fifteen days. Not believing the gas cap nonsense, I took my truck to AutoTek down south without replacing the gas cap. There, with no funny business, I passed the test with flying colors. Now, I don't know for sure what would've happened if I bought a filter, but it's certainly a suspicious turn of events. And to be fair, the inspection was pretty quick considering. If you don't mind shilling out a little extra coin, you'd have no issue here. But, I wouldn't come back here, even if it is free. read more

I have had services done at this place and it was alright. But today I went there only to ask how much it would be to switch my timing belt of my accent 2011. The employee without even check the price in the computer told me that would be around $800 to $1300. I truly felt so bad. Bc another mechanic 1 mile away from the store had told me that would be around 400. I can't deal with such lack of honesty. Another friend told me I could even switch my whole engine for 1300. I got here early because I called the Friday prior and was told that this location accepts walk ins only (and I kinda already went to the wrong one a few minutes prior) luckily it was just down the road. James asked to at least see the barcode, he promptly gave me a 30-35 minute ETA and recommended the coffee shop connected to it. Coffee was great, oil change was done within 15 minutes. That is the type of way I like to handle my mornings. In and out. I try as much as I can to support local businesses. Of course, Groovy Lube came to mind when I realized I was due for an oil change. Going to Groovy Lube is a better option than going to any corporate store. Besides I've heard bad things about certain oil change places such as not honoring coupons, etc. No way I was going to go to the dealership because I was given an attitude and they were trying to rip me off. It was my first time at Groovy Lube so I wasn't sure what to do. I drove up to the lane and I had to stay there until they saw me. Then I went to their waiting room. Just an FYI, there's no wifi available but there is wifi next door to the coffee place. So you are better off bringing a book. They seemed a bit understaffed. I went into the waiting room and there was no staff around. My pickup didn't take long for an oil change and it was nice they check the tires and vacuumed the interior which hasn't been vacuumed in ages. My experience at Groovy Lube was decent. Initially my loyalty was contingent upon several very cheap Groupon coupons but I just kept coming back since it was on the way to work. There's not much to say about the service since I only got oil changes. The staff is best described as amicable. They always offer to fix the impact crater on my windshield (sorry, no) or replace my cabin air filter (sorry, I can do that myself with a $10 Amazon order). I've definitely seen them be much pushier about the extra services with other patrons though. I'd say the average oil change takes about 20 minutes from drop-off to checkout. There is a coffee shop next door, so I like to pop in and get a coffee while I'm waiting. Groovy Lube is also dog friendly. Being a woman, I always get hassled when I'm having work done on my car. Trying to sell this, convince me I need that, etc. I've gotten pretty good at sternly responding with, "I'll have my husband call you later" or "I can't have anything done without speaking with my husband". Ha! That usually shuts them up. I don't know if they have a restroom, and there is very limited seating (unless you go to the coffee shop next door). Man, I love this place. There are few things I despise as much as sitting around waiting on an oil change. To have the option to get my oil changed here and walk next door and have lunch is such a godsend for me. And as a bonus, everyone is always super duper nice, they're faster than anywhere else I've taken my car, and they're always giving me coupons or rebates to save money.
