I come here every few years because I love German food, when I am in the mood. I've always liked it ... this time it was so-so. The food was a 3 star affair, at the most. Staff was 5 star. Atmosphere, 4 stars. The menu here is almost exactly same as the famous Student Prince restaurant in Springfield. Parking is much easier but I prefer the Student Prince's old school 1940's decor. The prices are similar ... high. 3 p.m. dinner only menu. Seriously?? The prices are double vs. lunch. Who eats dinner at 3 p.m. Those 10 minutes in between 2:50 pm and 3:00 pm cost me about $25 extra. The worst part of my meal ... Apple Strudel dessert. This isn't apple strudel. It's a weird thin-skinned apple pie with a lot of almost creamy chopped apple filling. The filling seems to contain cream of some sort and tasted a bit sour/spoiled. There is no satisfying crispiness or crunch ... it's a sloppy mess. Definitely recommend not getting this. Jager Schnitzel ... The brown gravy sauce with mushrooms was fantastic. However, there wasn't enough of it and the pork was dry and pounded way too thin, so it felt a little like eating a piece of cardboard with panko breading. Spaetzel ... Great. On the small side but perfectly buttered and tasted great. Red cabbage was also very good. Salad ... Came with the meal but I was charged $3 more for Roquefort cheese dressing. Wasn't told about the upcharge ... but the other options for dressing weren't very exciting. The Roquefort is a few crumbles of cheese mixed into sweet Russian dressing. Probably would just go with a regular dressing. The staff was great and the waitress was so perky and helpful. The host was extremely nice and accommodating. Nothing bad to say about the staff here ... they are probably the only reason I am giving 4 vs. 3 stars. The prices seem very high ... $19 for 2 sausages ... $26 for Schnitzel ... $14 - $19 for appetizers. $13 pretzel. It's all high quality stuff for sure. But, after tip, my bill was $60 for Schnitzel, a beer and a so-called Struedel. I guess that's kind of everywhere these days though. If you like German food, which is hard to find, they've been doing it for a long time. It's good ... but nothing amazing. Taking a trip to the area for work, or on the way back from the Berkshires, I try to stop by Munich Haus. I first came here years ago when I wanted needed somewhere interesting for dinner after a work trip. With Boston having a dearth of German restaurants (or New England in general), you might have to find the best German food in the state in this area (I should try Student Prince sometime). I typically get the Bavarian platter or the Jager Schnitzel. The platter is traditional German food's greatest hits. The various sausages are flavorful and have a nice bite. The schnitzels are fried nicely and definitely recommended. The mushroom sauce with the Jager schnitzel is savory and rich. The beef goulash is hearty with a zesty tomato flavor. Really nice touch that homemade potato chips come included with meals. The portions for everything are rather large and prices here are quite good, especially in comparison with Boston prices. Service is generally attentive and polite. During the Christmas season, the restaurant is decorated appropriately for the time. read more

Seems the service has fallen off at this spot. The last two times we've came it hasn't been the same it was in the past. Service is slow, and the aim to cram as many people in the place as they can. I shouldn't be touching people at other tables when sitting at my table, should I? This last time we were sat in a room where a party was taking place, 40 lid and obnoxious people there for some event. Hardly an enjoyable meal. Had a delicious dinner for a birthday celebration here last night. I really enjoyed my dinner. I considered ordering the venerzel , but last second decided to order the pork chops with apple glaze on top. I'm really glad that I did came with two large boneless pork chops with an apple glaze and apple slices on top. My sides were the spatzle and red cabbage. After munching on the chips with dip to start and a nice large german salad , I was stuffed after eating half of my dinner. I don't understand why they allow people to sit at other parts of the restaurant that are more comfortable. Host was arguing with someone and it was awkward to overhear it as I was using the restroom. Waitress was sweet. Food wasn't anything to brag about for the price. Everything was absolutely phenomenal. From the spotless seating area and windows overlooking two clock towers. The restaurant makes you feel like they already thought of everything. Be prepared to walk into Germany right off the side of the street. We had the shnitzel sampler and a sampler off the appetizers to get a taste of their items. From the moment the chips and herb aioli were served, we knew we were in for a treat. I never have ordered wine in my life. I tried a pinot noir and have since been searching for this and will have to come back. The food was all extremely delicious and moist. We recently had lunch at Munich Haus while passing through the area. Great service. They served fresh chips and onion dip after we were seated. One of my sons ordered a chicken schnitzel (wiener style) with spaetzle. My other son ordered a giant pretzel, nurnberger sausages, and a bottle of rootbeer. Having grown up on German fare, it makes me sad that we have none near our home, a couple hours from here. So, whenever we find ourselves out in this area, we try to stop for a delicious Bavarian meal. We were promptly greeted & seated by friendly staff dressed in traditional drindl dresses. The decor here feels like it's right out of the Bavarian Alps - perfect! As soon as seated, we were greeted with a comp bowl of house made chips and dip. Delicious! The Weihenstephaner Hefeweiss Dunkel was remarkedly fresh - as good as we'd expect in Germany. We ordered a Bavarian Platter and the Pretzel Crusted Chicken. The platter was massive! A taste of everything traditional and more than half the platter came home with us. Such a fantastic bargain! The chicken was a fun surprise - tasted just like a Bavarian pretzel with a delicious mustard sauce. We didn't get to check out the beer garden, but it looked interesting . Felt like I was back in the Cologne area having a wonderful schnitzel dinner. Spaetzels were a little on the smaller side as to what I am used to and were quite tasty. I had schnitzel a Holstein with an egg on it and I thought the dish compared favorably to the Anniston Inn's version (Anniston AL) where u would occasionally visit that area for work. read more

Munich Haus is a gem! My partner and I stumbled on this last year on our way up the coast and this year decided to stop here just so we could eat at Munich Haus again! I loved the atmosphere, the food is incredible and the cost is way too reasonable for that quality. The entire experience is a pleasure; they're super friendly here. The schnitzel was absolutely perfect and I loved how the salad dressing with Roquefort blue cheese was mixed right at the bar, where I was dining. Haven't been here in years so felt that it was time to revisit only because I got a gift card. The seasonal vegetables pictured were barely cooked. Their mashed potatoes were good but the French fries didn't taste as fresh as they should be. The red cabbage had a bit too much vinegar. Their baked haddock (in both pictures) was also good but wished they were at least a little crispy and not as soggy. The haddock comes with this thick lemon sauce that I asked to put on the side since I personally don't really like lemon but it was good to dip into. The entrees came with a choice of soup or salad. The Caesar salad came out warm which I think salad should be either room temperature or cold so it was a weird feeling to eat. The beef goulash soup was tasty and just a little spicy. But nothing bad to say about it. There was 3 of us that went. We ordered the pretzel scallops appetizer which I forgot to take a picture of. Even though they did taste good with the cream sauce on top, for $16 we only got 3.... Which is frankly pretty ridiculous for the price. Not sure if they only gave us 3 because there were just 3 of us and they give one scallop a person or what. They weren't big either one scallop is smaller than the palm of your hand. The atmosphere of the restaurant was nice, not too hot or cold and the waitresses wore German clothing which really brings it all together since it's a German restaurant. Some of the employees didn't seem too eager to be there and didn't smile a lot. I used to love the Munich Haus however this time I was very disappointed in my meal. The lamb on the shanks should have fallen right off the bone, but that was not the case. The meat felt like it had been left on a counter or in the open air all night as it had a hard outer skin and I had to fight to get it off the bone. This is an excellent German Restaurant. Not that I'm an expert or anything, it's been a couple decades since we lived in Germany and time changes memory. Parking can be a bit tough. They do have spots in two lots behind the restaurant and there is a public lot nearby as well as on street parking. Just be aware you may get lucky and you may need to walk a bit. There are two entrances accessed from the front deck. On the right is the Biergarten, on the left is the restaurant. I have never been in the Biergarten. The restaurant has a large bar area that is surrounded by booth seating. The booths have high backs so you are in your own little space when seated. Very cozy. Across the way is a good sized dining area at the front of the building with seating in the window overlooking the deck as well as several other tables. Behind this is another dining area of about the same size, and further back in the restaurant is a third dining area. All areas are dark wood table and seating, German inspired décor includes photographs and cow bells. It's very nicely done. The female staff were wearing Dirndls which is a nice touch. The hostess seats you with your menus. The waitress came over with waters, chips and a vegie dip to snack on while we decide what to eat and takes our drink order. The menu offers a variety of German wursts, schnitzels as well as entrees that are not specifically German in origin in case you like other fare. Every dish we have had at this restaurant has been very good quality. At our last visit, the schnitzel was very well cooked, the breading light and the Jager sauce rich and loaded with mushrooms. The spaetzle here is more traditional than another restaurant we recently visited; small 'dumpling' style bits of dough, boiled as usual, then finished in a pan of butter to give them a bit of a crisp. The red cabbage is also better here; less sweet, crisp and tart. This is definitely my preferred spot for authentic German fare based on the foods I have tasted. The staff have always been friendly and the restaurant clean, which in my mind is very important. The ambiance is quite good for both family and date night, especially as they have a variety of dining areas. And heads up, the bathroom can be a bit of a puzzle to find. It's down a long hallway, all the way to the back of the restaurant. You will hit the waitress stand and think 'I've gone too far', but no, you have not. Keep going, you're on the right track. read more

The menu is pretty limited for a vegetarian or really for anyone that wants to have vegetables with their dinner, but I was impressed with the assortment I ordered! The cheese and potato pierogies were delicious and fresh! The pretzel was way bigger than I expected. I think the highlight was the dipping sauces that were provided; it offered a lot more flavor onto the blandness of a pretzel and pierogies. They also threw in some chips with my order, which was unexpected! I can't speak to the service or ambiance since I ordered delivery. Excellent Easter dinner here today!!! A little bit of a ride for us, but definitely worth the ride for some excellent German (and Polish) food!!! The restaurant was much bigger than I was expecting with lots of different rooms. The servers were dressed in traditional German attire too! We both really enjoyed our meals. My partner got a Polish platter full of pierogies, glompkie, kielbasa, spatzele and sauerkraut. I had a traditional weiner schnitzel (pork chops) and spatzele with red cabbage. We both loved our dinners and tried everything. We ended with each of us getting a piece of German chocolate cake which was excellent! Manager Scott was rude and disrespectful. Service was interesting, the girl seemed like she was on something. We sat at a bar booth and could overhear the manager being extremely disrespectful to one of the waitresses. We were sooo excited to find this place on our way to Boston as we are big fans of German beer and food. First impression walking up to the restaurant, we were sold. Tons of Bavarian decor, beir garden, and amazing beers on tap! We were warmly greeted by waitress dressed in tradition outfit and opted to sit in the Bier garden. Our waitress was attentive and we were served with our beer and complimentary chips with creamy dip right away. These were delicious, the sauce had a bit of kick to it and I wished there were more! I got the braised lamb shank with sides of spetzel and red cabbage. Hubby had the schnitzel platter which was HUGE! The portion was amazing for the price but unfortunately the food were a bit bland. With a bit of added salt, it tasted much better. My lamb was tender, spetzel were a bit mooshy and hubby's schnitzels could be crispier. Based on beer, totally 5 Stars, food would be 3.5 Stars.
