The appetizers (salad caprese lacked much flavor, the bruschetta was missing any hint of salt and was flavorless and the grilled squid was lacking) were okay. The pasta and pizza were the highlights. Problem here is, in addition to the underwhelming apps, whoever designed this restaurant interior did not take into account noise. The noise is the loudest I have experienced at a restaurant. And, they could likely dampen the noise with some inexpensive sound proofing on the ceiling. Instead, this is a restaurant with cement walls and cement/metal ceilings leaving nowhere for the customers voices to go. Came here for my wife's birthday and I'm so glad I did. The grilled calamari was incredible and the eggplant fries were awesome in the dipping sauce. I ordered the board chops and my wife ordered the spaghetti with clams and shrimp and our son ordered a classic Margherita brick oven pizza. Everything was incredible. Wow! This place is awesome. I had the bone marrow appetizer. It's not for everybody, but for the adventurous foodie it was a rich and savory treat that you spread on bread like a pate. My wife had the seafood soup appetizer, she loved it because it had lots of fresh seafood in a light tomato broth. For my main dish I had the wild boar chops served with root veggies and a creamy potato puree. It was a big double cut chop that was perfectly cooked and simply prepared for the serious swine lover. My wife had the sword fish with eggplant caponata and lentils with wild mushrooms. The combinations really complimented each other. Food was great. Everything was presented beautifully on unique dishes with striking layouts that make you pause to check out the dish before digging in. The bone marrow appetizer was my favorite. It was packed with so much flavor I wanted to pickup the bones and go to town after the marrow was finished. The Beet and fennel salad was very nicely done on a piece of slate. Drinks were also quite nice; we got the tomato and jalapeno tequila cocktail which had a surprising kick balanced with a salty sugary mix on the rim of the glass. The food was delicious and piping hot. We ordered the Polenta Fries and Bruschetta for appetizers. The Polenta Fries were really well fried-- crunchy on the outside and soft on this inside, not too greasy. The spicy aioli on the side was delicious. The Bruschetta was a nice cool companion to the fries. For entrees we got the pork sauce campanelle and the lemon gnocchi. The campanelle was sweet, spicy, and had great pork flavor. The gnocchi was delicious, green, and refreshing-- the tomatoes were a great touch, and super fresh as well. We wish we could have stayed for desert, but we were too full, because the portions were on the generous side! Aside from the food being great, the service was quick and friendly. The host, waitress, and buss-staff were all great. The interior is nice and clean. We loved how the decor actually matched the name-- Grotta di Fuoco meaning Cave of Fire-- the decor was metal and wood with digital lanterns to provide a warm comfortable feeling. There is a pretty awesome photo of a cave with stalagmites. We didn't get a chance to check out the bathroom, but, if the trend holds, I'm sure it is clean and comfortable. Went here with husband for a casual 'let's celebrate our one year anniversary' and 'hooray! We're pregnant dinner'. We made reservations, of course. Upon walking in, you'll encounter staff but they will not address you because the host is just down the stairs...? We were seated at the last couple table, which is closest to the restrooms. Probably THE WORST table to sit at. I was freezing and extremely uncomfortable throughout the dinner and rather than stay and finish our drinks, have a dessert and coffee/tea, we left to go somewhere else. I did tell our waitress. She agreed that everyone who sits at the table complains about it being cold but was told that the manager told her that nothing could be done about the direction of the air from the massive AC unit close-by. Just kind of surprised that the manager would not think of another option to make his patrons comfortable like: moving us to another table when it became available or lowering the AC's temperature? Nope. Instead, I shivered throughout dinner. Aside from this, the waitress was quite nice and came to the table frequently to check in. To order, we got the meatballs for an appetizer, which were great! I got the gnocchi, which was extremely pungent and I would not order nor recommend. My husband got the fettuccine which was just okay and certain strands were much less than cooked al dente. I really wished we had gone somewhere else for our celebration or at least sat outside. My 3 stars are for the waitress, meatballs and decor. I'd recommend this place for a small bite and drinks outside... not so much a full meal, based on our experience. read more

One of our favorite places to come locally for a quiet and delicious dinner. The ambiance is very cool and romantic. The rigatoni with vegetable "bolognese" is the best ever! They forgot to deliver one of the catered items and before my daughter called them; they called us and made another trip to deliver the missing item! Great ambiance and although the decor of this restaurant suggests young and trendy date spot, there were people of all ages and it's family friendly. The food is beautifully prepared and plated. To start we had pizza and a salad to share for apps. I was dining with two other friends and we each ordered an entree to share so we can sample more items on the menu. My fiancé and I have been coming to Grotta since we moved to Long Beach three years ago. We have never once been disappointed with an entree. Everything is always delicious, creative, and the service is always on point. Andrea at the bar makes a great cocktail. My favorite restaurant on Long Island. We always bring friends to Grotta when they are in from out of town and they always want to come back when they visit. Some of my favorites are the boar bolognese, the gnocchi, the octopus appetizer, the bone marrow, and any of the pizza specials. Well worth every penny. read more

I had the pleasure of dining at the new Long Beach hot spot, Grotta Di Fuoco. The restaurant is warm and comfortable, with its dim lighting and rustic look. The wood burning pizza oven, that can be smelled from blocks away, resonates throughout the restaurant. The hostess was very welcoming and the wait staff attentive. The menu has a great selection of modern, yet still familiar dishes, with a twist. I have already been there 3 times, and have enjoyed the white pizza and bone marrow (a must try!!!) for an appetizer, the homemade pork cheek ravioli, the ricotta gnocchi, and the wild boar scarpariello for dinner. Don't let the names or ingredients scare you... the dishes are innovative and delicious!!! There is something for everyone. You won't be disappointed. SUCH a gem. Walked in and was seated immediately without a reservation after being turned away at a restaurant across the street. Staff is friendly and accommodating (and a number are actors and/or Hollywood doppelgangers so there is great eye-candy of both the male and female variety!). Our server, Melanie, COULD NOT have been more wonderful. Not only did she have a fabulous personality, but she was especially helpful with regards to questions about the menu and suggestions (when asked) about what to order. The food is delicious. We split a rocket salad (which they were easily able to modify to remove an allergy-triggering ingredient) and without prompting they served it in two bowls, which I always appreciate. Our two entrees were scallops (PERFECTLY cooked) and clams & shrimp in a white wine sauce over spaghetti. Both were FABULOUS. The homemade pasta was worth the diet "cheat night." I've got high and some low marks for this new gem for LB. On a week night the atmosphere is cozy romantic and embracing. The design is very new for LB, a chic warm glow. On the weekend the noise level is unbearable. We were told they are looking into resolving the issue. I cannot recommend the pizza it is dry and tough. I love a thin crust pizza light on cheese, but this was without any depth of flavor or texture. I have tried it a few times and with different people and we all felt the same. That being said, the other items on the menu are delicious from the gnocchi to the fish. The salads are fresh and cold. The service is very good, pleasant, no attitude,done in earnest. I never left without hoping that this place stays open because it's a great alternative to the burger beer pizzeria sports bars that we love, but sometimes we need a break and want a sophisticated place for grown ups. I tried the marrow as one reviewer glowingly recommended and i have to say, it is still stuck in my throat. what made it edible was the garnishes that were on it. i in my imagination this was goung to be a pate but i got fried fat, and that's not what marrow tastes like if you have ever tried it. there was a bean and some kind of horse food salad - too much texture, not enough flavor. finally i got spaghetti clams & shrimp. the spaghetti tasted like undercooked cup of noodles. the shrimp were good. that's it. had i been asked to pay for the meal what i thought it was worth i would leave a $20 & not force myself to eat this pretentious or overly ambitious (not sure of the chef's motivations) attempt to make a statement to my palette.
