Visited Grotto downtown for a group lunch and majority were satisfied. Cabin-like classy vibe. Service was not the best but the food was good. I would return! What we ordered: Grouper Meatzza pizza Chicken pizza Ham pizza Salmon

While in Houston at a convention, I stepped out from the event and only had to walk a few feet to Grotto. What a delight! The interior is artsy and fun, with dark wood and unique lighting. I got there before the rush, so I had most of the restaurant to myself, and that was very pleasant. The service was impeccable. I was sat quickly, greeted professionally, my server came over immediately. He offered suggestion (and they were spot on for my taste), I had my water and a drink within minutes, and within 10 minutes I had my food. It was delicious. I are alone, and enjoyed every minute - thats not something I normally say. I hate eating alone. But I felt welcomed there. And when I asked for if the waiter know where the hotel was from the restaurant, he quickly pulled out his phone and looked it up for me and then made sure I understood the directions. Now... thats service!

Had a business dinner at Grotto Downtown and it all was pretty good! We had pizza's, pastas and some appetizers that all were very tasty. I would like to start out by giving a big shoutout to Ari who was the best server anyone could ask for. She should be promoted or given a bonus or something! Thanks, Ari! The ambiance was nice. Outdoor and indoor seating and private dining for parties with a nice bar. I am a bit of a pizza snob, and while it was good I'm reserving my 5 stars for my top fav pizza's and this didn't make that cut. The pasta's were awesome though, and the appetizers were great. I'd definitely pop back in, especially if you are at the convention center or headed to a ball game. Thanks!

This is a nice bistro connected to the downtown convention center. A short walk from the baseball park and across the street from the Marriott Marquee. Which puts it as an excellent meeting place during a conference or before a game. The food is excellent, the noise level down enough to hear your friends and the ambiance is warm and cozy. What more can one ask for?

We had such a wonderful night at grotto. We had a large group and had an individual room with the sliding door that closed off. You were able to control the music independently here which was very nice. The food was very amazing and the service was impeccable.

I went in for lunch last week opening day of Astros. I ordered the Frito Miso and the pepperoni pizza. Oh my God delicious. The service was great. I said at the bar the ambience was wonderful. Lots of people friendly people.

Omg this place was amazing!! We got a pizza and the shrimp pasta and both were delicious. The vibe is super cute and the staff was super friendly. For how busy it was, service was great and the food came out quick! Definitely would come back here when in Houston.

My co-worker and I asked for a recommendation at the hotel across the street where we were staying. They recommended Grotto. From the moment we entered we felt like this was a great decision. The host offered us a lovely table by the window. We were there during happy hour and they had excellent selection of cocktails. 3-7 pm for happy hour is amazing! We chose 3 selections. We started with the rosemary focaccia bread with honey ricotta and olives. The bread was simply delicious and a very large portion. It was soft with the perfect amount of rosemary. Then we selected the kale salad that had a variety of veggies and meat with a delicious vinaigrette dressing. Our entree was a pasta dish with wild mushrooms, pancetta, and fried egg on top. It was unique and delicious. I wish we had a place like this back home because this would enter my rotation. If you're here for business of fun, I suggest you check it out. Our server was Ella and she was attentive and offered great suggestions.

This restaurant is attached to the convention centre in Downtown Houston. The order consisted of Chilled Cucumber- garnished with almonds, and drizzled with a vinaigrette, it was the best cucumber salad. Roasted Butternut Squash soup - my fav soup, and I was not disappointed, it was really yummy. Pasta Verdure- the vegetarian pasta looked great , tasted even greater. The simple dish was just the right balance between pasta and salad, perfect to my liking. Next came the dessert, the Thiramisu ! If was too huge to finish so got it to-go. It had all the flavors of coffee, cream and so much more. Ambience is very welcoming . Great place, must visit.

My husband and I stopped in for a quick bite before the Rockets game. Super close to the Toyota Center so a great place to go to before an event or game. The restaurant is super cozy on the inside and they had a ton of indoor and outdoor seating! We split a bunch of appetizers which were all good. They have a happy hour M-F, 4pm-7pm. Our waiter was super attentive and we will definitely be back to eat dinner soon!

I never know what I'm going to get when I go to restaurants by tourist attractions and hotels... however I was extremely surprised by how great this place was... came in around 5pm on Friday.. decently busy but I was able to sit at the bar on the chairs without backs (which upset me at first but ended up being very comfortable). I was alone but didn't feel judged or anything which was nice. I got the sangria and the francese dish. Everything came out fast. I don't love red sangrias but this one was excellent... and the food... I would've drank the sauce if they gave me a glass.. so so good I was obsessed and almost at all of it and it was a nice big portion. Ambience is warm and friendly.. if I'm ever back in the area I'll have to come again!

Great place to grab food before an Astros game. We like ordering a pizza and other appetizers before heading to the stadium.

Crème brûlée was awesome

Really lovely evening dining at Grotto while in town for a conference. They are serving up fantastic food and outstanding drinks in an elegant yet inviting atmosphere. Stand outs were the short rib gnocchi, espresso martini and crème brûlée. Would absolutely return here if I'm ever in Houston again.

This is not like the Grotto Galleria. This one is lower end, smaller menu that caters to out of towners or those going to a downtown event.

Is this place still doing Happy Hour? I don't see a menu on their website, nor a lunch menu.

Hello, yes, we are still providing Happy Hour, Mon - Fri 3PM - 7PM. Thank you.

How is the atmosphere for a Friday night dinner date?

Overall it's a nice feel, but petty casual especially if Astros are playing. May be some fans before / after. Caveat: it can be hit or miss though....been there when its packed on Friday night and been there when its pretty slow.

Is there a happy hour and if so whats on the menu?

We have happy hour from Monday to Friday, 3pm to 7pm. Please visit our website to view the menu: grottorestaurants.com.

The cheese board plates like delicious! For a party of 6, what would you recommend?

Please visit our website to view the menu: http://www.grottorestaurants.com/. Our dessert and cheese plates are perfect to share for a large party.

Do they have any vegan dishes?

Not sure if they had any on the regular menu, but our server offered a couple times that the kitchen is more than happy to make things not on the menu to accommodate.

Is it difficult to find parking?

Go to Avenida South garage. Grotto will validate your parking ticket for free till 3 hours.

Our server was checking in on us very frequently and she explained the menu to us when we told her we hadn't been before. The manager on duty also had stopped by and introduced herself. They told us up front that tapas would be able to be out quickly with only up to a 10 minute wait but that larger plates could be up to a 45 minute wait. We ordered several tapas and one large plate half order. I don't know much about wine, personally, but the drinks we did get were amazing. The restaurant itself was very pretty as well, lots of natural lighting and then low lighting as the sun went down. The music was low and we were able to hear each other well, apart from one group across the room that would get rowdy but I can't blame them for having a good time. Our food was all delicious and I forgot to take pics of some of them because we devoured them so quickly. Not pictured, we ordered the grilled asparagus and focaccia. I highly recommend all of what we ordered.

You can choose between 3 or 6oz pours, or a bottle. We also decided to share a cheese board with the Willoughby cheese which was soft and delicious! The décor, wine list, menu, comfortable seating, and cozy atmosphere make it such a special spot. They offer wines for every taste and budget, and the staff is knowledgeable when asked for recommendations. That's why this is difficult for me to write. Despite visiting frequently, I've consistently found the customer service to be unwelcoming. The service has a strange tone, and it isn't limited to one employee they all seem to share the same indifferent, slightly annoyed demeanor. The experience feels less like genuine hospitality and more like, "You're here what can I get you?" On my most recent visit, others in my group noticed and commented on the same thing without any prompting from me. Since they had never been before, it confirmed that it wasn't just my perception. One small interaction captured the overall tone. We asked whether they happened to have a birthday candle, and an employee responded in an annoyed tone by pointing to the candle on our table which, realistically, no one would put on a birthday dessert. We completely understood that they might not have one; it wasn't an unreasonable expectation or request. A simple, friendly response like, "Unfortunately, we don't, but we do have some delicious desserts," would have been perfectly fine. It wasn't the answer that bothered us. it was the way we were made to feel for asking. It may seem like a small interaction, but great hospitality is built on small moments. The atmosphere is warm, cozy, and inviting, but unfortunately, the service doesn't reflect that same feeling. People return to places where they feel welcomed and appreciated, especially in a city like Houston with so many wonderful food and wine options. I genuinely want The Library to thrive because it has everything else it needs to remain a true neighborhood favorite.

The bread was very buttery and nicely toasted. The frank itself was very juicy and I loved how the pico and mustard help cut through the fat. The thing that made this hotdog stand out was the cheese sauce. The cheese sauce was delicious and I could probably have just eaten that alone. One thing though, the hotdogs were a bit on the smaller size, you probably would have to order something else or a second hotdog if you were hungry. Would come back again just for this hotdog! When my friend made the reservation, she received an email encouraging customers to visit the tasting room before or after dinner. We showed up an hour early to visit the tasting room, however the host had no idea what we were talking about. Turns out they weren't doing tastings. Luckily, we didn't have to wait to be seated. We initially had a table that was not near a heat lamp, however an employee came over and let us know that we could switch to a table near the heat lamp which was appreciated because it was chilly. Our server was Laura. She was nice and funny. They had $25 flight specials. I went with the Sayanara Flight which had white wines. I really enjoyed them and they weren't too sweet. My friend had an NA wine which she enjoyed. We ordered the Truffle Fries and Meatballs. Both dishes were tasty. I enjoyed the aioli that came with the fries. They had discounted wines for purchase. Not all bottles were 50% off, however the gentleman that we spoke to went ahead and gave me a 50% discount on both the rosé and pinot grigio that I purchased which was so appreciated! It seems like there are quite a few businesses around town that are closing. I'm sad to see Mutiny go, but I'm glad my friend and I got to dine in on their final night.

"Closing time, you don't have to go home But you can't stay…read morehere." - Semisonic I have lived in the loop for 5 years now, and I'm sad to say that I finally tried Mutiny on their last day. I often pass by it going through a shortcut to I-45 and sometimes going home around the area. It's literally a 5-minute drive. I booked reservations Friday since I saw they opened up the 31st on Resy. It wasn't earlier in the week, but I knew it was the last day, and my friend and I really wanted to try. I'm glad we made reservations because they were at capacity (150 person capacity) and weren't taking any walk ins. We got there early cause Resy suggested checking out the Tasting Room before or after the reservation time. We got there about an hour earlier, and the host said he didn't know anything about that except that the Tasting Room area was used for events. Interesting. We were seated earlier on the patio on this freezing evening. At first, we were at a table that didn't have a heat lamp, but when one freed up, they were so nice to suggest that we move closer to the heat lamp since they saw us shivering. Lol. We were thankful for that. I wore fleece lined jeans and brought gloves and a beanie anyway having been in the below freezing winter in London. Laura was our server and was kind and funny. So was this other guy who checked in every now and then. He made light of their last day situation. The dining area is so beautiful inside. I love the limestone-looking interior and chandeliers. Reminds me of Fredericksburg or something. They had many large groups and a few small groups of friends or couples dining on this last day. Way to go out with a bang. A lot of the wines were selling out or already sold out around 7-8 pm. We tried the truffle fries and Sicilian meatballs with focaccia bread. I like the thick cut of the fries and the black garlic aioli. It reminded me of yuca fries. The Sicilian meatballs were a bit small, peppery and salty. I wish the marinara was a little more tart. The focaccia helped cut through the saltiness. I had 2 glasses of the NA Sauvignon blanc which was light and a little tart. They ran out of the NA red blend. My friend ordered Sayonara, one of their farewell flights which were aptly named for "goodbye". It was a great night on the patio but chilly. My friend purchased a rosé and a Pinot Grigio as part of their Last Sail wines. Actually, the Pinot Grigio wasn't part of the sale, and he was going to take off 20%, but he also made it 50% off. So nice!! I'm glad we got to try them on their last day. Bon voyage, Mutiny.

I got the Bacon covered Dates, the Pizza, and the Sticky Toffee Cake. The Brussels were good - husband liked them more than me. They were good. Had cashews in them. Little spicy. The bacon covered dates. Think this was my favorite bite. Sweet, salty, creamy. Came we three & I had two. The pizza was sweet and salty as well. The crust was so good and fresh. The arugula set it off so well. Def a buy again! The Steak Frites was so good. The chimichurri sauce was perfect. Just the right mount of citrus. Steak was tender and the fries seasoned well. The desserts - don't skip them! The Devils Affogato we had the first time we ate at Sixty Vines. Had to have it again. If you like coffee, chocolate and vanilla ice cream just get it.
