You need to come here for the cinnamon buns! There are also plenty of places to sit and it's quiet if you need to get some work done. I remember looking around and thinking -- wow, someone really put some thought into the design of this place. I wish a took a picture but this just means you need to check it out for yourself! When I lived in Kitsilano, this used to be my weekly treat/haunt. However, since moving away, it's farther to go and the bun itself has diminished in size. Now that it's opened a new location on the Drive, I suppose I'll go on special occasions when they're featuring a seasonal flavour, as otherwise, the wow factor is no longer there. It actually hasn't been too long since I tried their buns from their original location on Alma. This new location is a lot more spacious and bright and I'm sure it's a welcomed addition to the neighbourhood. The cinnamon bun that I tried wasn't as good as the one I had before at their original location. It was more dry/hard on the outside and didn't taste as freshly made. This is a good place to study or catch up with someone for a while. There's definitely times in the day where it's more quiet and mostly just people working away at their laptops, but toward the evening it did become louder and more meeting-like. There is lots of seating and outlets available by the walls. The high ceilings also help make the place look a bit brighter which is nice. Washrooms are clean. The cashiers I have dealt with have always been friendly. We always come here to enjoy their cinnamon buns, yes I do think the ones at the Kitsilano location are better but I still find these satisfying enough to quench the cinnamon bun craving when I'm not in the Kits area. Every time we've come the cinnamon buns have been perfectly soft and the taste is on point. I don't really drink americanos but I got an iced one because they didn't seem to have iced coffee on their menu, so I don't have much to compare the taste to but it seemed pretty average. I ordered an espresso banana chocolate chip muffin before leaving but didn't end up eating it until the next day, so I can't give an honest review for it because it's fair for it to be a little dry. The flavour didn't really impress me though (I was really hoping to taste the espresso which I didn't at all). So I'd probably skip out on the muffin next time I go. The cafe was packed with people but feels spacious and it was still relatively quiet enough to study. Average vancouver coffee prices but the caramel macchiato was worth it. I was craving a cinnamon bun, which for me is scary because NO BUN EVER has been as good as my mom's were. But I decided to give the buns here a try. OH MY GOD!! They are as good as my mom's!!! They aren't too sweet. Strong cinnamon flavour. Soft without being undercooked. Tastes like a bun. Cream cheese icing en pointe. Perfection. PERFECTION!!! And today I go back and buy six more. I love coming here to work for a couple hours or read. It's a generally quite quiet place and the decor feels cozy (especially if you're lucky enough to sit along the wall). The coffee is good and the cinnamon rolls are tasty. That said, I truly think Cinnzeo in Metrotown has better cinnamon rolls! Cinnzeo also makes them all fresh in house (if you're lucky, you can watch them make them fresh there!) and seems to be a family owned franchise so I prefer eating the buns there. I also had the oatmeal cookie at Grounds for Coffee and it was much too sweet so I wouldn't order it again and the sweetness of that cookie put me off of ordering any other baked goods here for a while. If you come here, get a drink and a cinnamon roll and you'll have a good time. read more

I was told they have make the best cinnamon bun in town, drove all the way over to try it. Long line up at front even during COVID season, no street parking available, had to walk a bit distance to get my car parked. They provide the snow topping for the buns separately, but a bit challenging to pour it out from the coffee cup, looked a bit messy afterwards. The bun is a bit too sweet for me, but kids loved it. Best cinnamon buns in the city hands down. No other buns compare when it comes to their thick, gooey, and chewiness. Love their seasonal variations and twists they add. Good spot to get some coffee too. Helps wash down the sweet, cinnamony-ness of the bun. If you're looking for a chill study spot with solid coffee and sweet treats, I'd recommend visiting here. You can get a single bun or in boxes of six. Whichever you prefer! If I didn't have to worry about calories, I'd probably eat these everyday. read more

Like a lot of people, I came here to try the BEST cinnamon buns and was very disappointed. I am keto but will take a day out of every few months to enjoy things I miss or want to try. Today was that day and I regret it. Let's be clear, if someone had these at the office and I was not keto I'd probably have half a bun but that's it. The buns at cinnzeo in the mall are better. Grounds buns are simultaneously flavourless and taste like stale cinnamon hearts. They are moist I will give them that and the icing is okay but its just meh. If you want to try them I say go for it but better off buying a box of cinnazone from save-on-foods for your party. Service was friendly :) read more

Let me start by saying that these cinnamon buns, well the ones at the original store on Alma, used to be the cat's ass! They were amazing. Generously covered in a cream cheese icing these big buns had your mouth watering just at the thought of them. Over the years, while the buns themselves have remained great, the icing had declined. I'm not sure if I just remember the icing having been better than it is now or if the recipe has changed to increase the profit margin. We used to drive from East Van to Alma weekly for a dozen. Now the icing amount has lessened to barely cover the bun. We rarely find it tempting enough to make the drive across town. Now in our hood we figure that they may be worth the short walk. What we have found though is that when deciding on where to go the quality of the coffe determines where we will spend our time chatting and people watching. In a household of 8 coffee drinkers no one even wants to go there. The coffee simply cannot compare to other coffees available on the Drive. Continental's cappuccino, Calabria's americano, JJ Bean's mocha, Spade's café de leche... The swill at Grounds? Sorry no. We figured we need to support the local business so picked up a dozen buns to bring home. The icing flavour was lacking and there just wasn't enough of it to balance out that huge bun. I'm sorry guys I just can't imagine you making it on the Drive with the stellar coffee competition of little Italy and failing buns. I wish you well but really think you'll need to step it up a lot of you want to succeed. read more

I dropped my car off to get the tires changed for an 8am appointment and I wanted somewhere to go to pass the time. Grounds for Coffee was the obvious choice. I regularly frequent the Alma St location and I would hasten to assume that anything affiliated with Grounds for Coffee can do no wrong. Grounds for Coffee Commercial Drive was satisfying in every way. The space is larger than that of Alma street's location so it can accommodate more socially distanced folks. I ordered an eggnog latte (yum!), a healthy choice muffin to eat there (yum!), and a cinnamon bun to take home (yum x1000!!) because it was a little too soon following my reluctant extraction from slumber to be hit with such sugar. My plan was to enjoy my healthy choice muffin and latte while doing some textbook reading and waiting for my tires to be changed. However - I received a phone call not too long after getting comfortable informing me that they were not able to put my winter tires on as they are not the right size for my car. I called my dad to ask if I mistakenly grabbed the wrong tires. He informed me that those were "my tires" however they were the wrong size and the last time my dad took my car to a shady garage to have them put on and the place I took them to this time would not do such shady things. The point I'm trying to make here is that Grounds for Coffee is not a bad place to receive annoying news. I had to leave abruptly to collect my all-seasons tired car but my visit to Grounds for Coffee made it so that my morning excursion wasn't a loss! I am familiar with their brand so it was a no brainer to do this location on Commercial Drive. I was craving something sweet and I wanted a signature cinnamon bun. I really loved the hipster music. I hate a basic single shot almond milk latte as well. Seating was limited as they're following Covid protocol, therefore, I had to make it a grab and go situation. I was happy how everyone was ordering and standing in an orderly fashion which is appreciated. The prices are market value with all other coffee shops. Amazing cinnamon buns! And great coffee too. Lots of seating, great for small groups to work / catch up. The chill laid back coffee shop music and general buzz is the perfect white noise for me to work. My favourite spot is to sit by the window and people watch while I go paway. read more

Nice cafe on the drive, lots of seating and clean washrooms. Had a regular drip coffee and I would go back for it again. They have a nice option of $1 refill so if you are in study mode or have long meetings here, it's a nice touch. I came in to try the BEST cinnamon bun in Vancouver. Unfortunately that is not what I received. I ate in so I could have it fresh and it was served luke warm to the point where the icing was not even slightly melted. The base of the bun was very oily and was seeping into my plate. Bun did not taste too fresh as it was crunchy on all the corners. Also ordered a Hazelnut Mocha which was underwhelming and also served luke warm. Hoping this is all because the location just opened but I would have expected better. I will try again in the future and hopefully be able to update my review. I gave this place a second chance, (see my first review to know what happened) first of all, the cinnamon buns were dry as a desert. I had to force myself to finish it since it was so expensive. I could barely swallow it because it left my mouth so dry and the aftertaste was horrible. So, I needed water. They have free water with cups and a dispenser for customers. I took one of their cheap kiddie IKEA cups and I poured myself water. Since I was so thirsty I decided to take a huge gulp. But as soon as I swallowed that, I knew something was wrong. Right after drinking I took a sniff and I smelled the most disgusting odour, it was worse than walking past a bottle return depot. It smelled like water from a sewer, the smell was exactly like poop. It smelled like something was decaying for months. I was so disgusted I threw up right then and there. Employees, if you're reading this, please sniff your cups so you'll know how I felt. And please wash your cups with clean water that wasn't used to clean your floors. PS The curly haired worker must be avoided. read more
