Classic Vancouver cafe! Walls full of local art, cozy corners and tasty treats! Tried out the baked blueberry fritter and it was soooo tasty! Not too sweet, just the way I like it! Service was speedy and friendly even though it was packed inside.

Just a little treat on a holiday for me. These cinnamon buns are worth the trip here. I used to visit the Alma location but now live near the drive so this is more convenient.

Grounds For Coffee is my go-to spot whenever I'm craving a cinnamon bun--no one does them better, and I'll die on that hill. This time, though, I decided to try something new and ordered the espresso chocolate banana muffin. It was fantastic! Honestly, everything I've tried here has been delicious, so you really can't go wrong with any choice. The space itself offers a good amount of indoor and outdoor seating, making it perfect for catching up with friends or getting some work done on your laptop while enjoying your coffee and pastry.

Spacious, bright, community-oriented coffee house with some great-looking baked goods. I stopped in here for a cold drink and opted for one of their summer specials: a blended berry lemonade. I got to pick what berry I wanted - blueberries - and they actually used real fruit. The drink was refreshing and delicious. I sat around for a while to savour it and charge my phone.

It was blueberry season, and I lucked out and went on the last day they offered the blueberry cinnamon bun. Absolutely delicious that I went back for seconds.

It was super easy to order online through their app ahead of time and go into the store to pick-up! The staff are friendly and efficient, and it was vibrant and bustling on a weekday afternoon. I ordered a cinnamon bun and it is SO delicious. It's fluffy, soft, chewy at the same time, full of cinnamon flavour, and slathered with that delectable cream cheese. A perfect treat to share. Or eat by yourself. Yum!!

You can never go wrong with a cinnamon roll from Grounds. This has to be the best cinnamon roll in Vancouver. Perfectly soft, chewy, right amount of sweetness, warm if you have it in the cafe and you just want to lick the plate clean. The cafe itself is always a cozy place to catch up with a friend, do some laptop work or read a book. The staff at the counter are always friendly and great service all around.

As soon as I went into the cafe, I was instantly enveloped by the irresistible aroma of freshly baked cinnamon buns. Because I was in a hurry for some nearby volunteer work, I only grabbed a cup of flat white and decided to save the cinnamon bun for post-task indulgence . The flat white was robust and blended with creamy milk. The cinnamon bun was a soft and fluffy delight, although a touch more frosting could have enhanced its flavor. The staff was exceptionally nice. I was having trouble with the app, and he was so patient trying to resolve the problem for me. Really appreciate his help !

These cinnamon buns are the best! The consistency and ratio to the ooey gooey center is perfect with the icing !

Smells like cinnamon goodness when you walk in. So sweet and perfect. The cinnamon buns are so good here - love the icing and texture. Definitely stop by if you're on commercial drive!

Cinnamon bun had good cinnamon, would've like a wee bit more icing. Service was good as a cafe should be. The ambiance was also that of a cafe.

I was meeting a friend here yesterday who's visiting from California, and when deciding on a meeting place, we realized a bunch of the Gastown coffee roaster places were closed on Sunday, so I mentioned Breka , knowing it was opened 24/7. (LOVE this!). Plus, this site is close to Waterfront Station, and my friend had a busy day planned, taking the Seabus to N.Van and doing a lot of sightseeing. So this Breka was perfect. I was there early at 10 am-ish, and from the outset, I was impressed: exposed brick wall, long counter and display case, fully stocked with the most beautiful pastries and tarts and cakes, and lovely looking sandwiches, too....Just lovely. I ordered a tea from the guy taking the orders. At the check-out, the woman working the cashier was the most unfriendly, aloof person I have ever encountered at a Breka. She was downright dour. Never looked up, never smiled, said I owed X for the tea I ordered, gave me a receipt and said I was "number 3", no "thank you" (despite my saying thanks!), nothing. She looked really unhappy and bothered to be there. (I sat at a nearby table, waiting for my number to be called. I saw her interactions with all the people behind me - and there were quite a few, as it got suddenly busy in the cafe. She was cold and unfriendly to everyone in line as she rang them all up. These are mostly tourists! Why have a dour, borderline-hostile woman at the check-out counter of a busy cafe in a touristy part of our city? I just don't get it). Anyhow, I waited 10 minutes to hear my number called, but I never heard it. I walked up to the take-out area and there was my tea, on a receipt that said "number 3". Did they call out my number? I honestly don't know. I was seated at a table a few feet from the area and listening for my number and I didn't hear it called. I was not impressed with this set-up. Not at all. My friend arrived and got a chocolate concoction which looked amazing, and he loved it, so there's that. I still love Brekas but I probably won't return to this site. Between the cold experience at the cash and the prolonged waiting for my order (a cup of tea!), and not being sure if my order number was ever called, it just all left me with a bitter taste in my mouth.

Unfortunately, this one was a bit disappointing. The interior was overly moist, the caramelized crust lacked the crispness I was hoping for, and the honeycomb structure wasn't very well developed. Overall, it was just average. We also ordered the Strawberry Pistachio Tart. The strawberries were fresh with a nice balance of sweetness, and there was a good amount of pistachio chunks. However, it lacked the layers of flavor that make a tart memorable. On the bright side, the coffee was excellent and easily my favorite part of the visit. I'd happily come back for a coffee, but I'd probably try different pastries next time.

Gary's only allows to order the fresh mango cakes up to one week ahead to ensure they have enough ripe mangos, which I admire their dedication. We ordered the 6 inch cake for 9 people (7 adults and 2 kids) and everyone got a thin to average slice. The cake is definitely prettier than the other fresh mango cakes on the market, has a lot more mangos that are perfectly ripe and sweet, there is less wipped cream, and the sponge cake is softer. The family agreed that Gary's has the best fresh mango cake but at $69 for a 6 inch cake, versus $43 for a 6 inch mango cake from Saint Germaine, a cake from Gary's is definitely a treat and for special occasions. Is Gary's worth the premium price? I think so but not everyone in my family agreed. One thing to note: Gary's do offer cake in a jar that's $8.50 each. When we went, they had a BOGO deal with the mango cake jars. My nephew asked my sister to buy the BOGO deal knowing that the 6 inch cake was not going to be enough, as the kids like having a second slice of cake.
