I called for a to-go order and ordered the elk medallions, the cioppino, and for appetizer the cast iron red thai curry. I have nothing to complain about! My boyfriend advocates for you guys to oder the Elk as it was the softest and most delicious meat he has had! And I vouge for the iron red thai curry as an entre rather than an appatizer, it was rich and creamy while the mussles were cooked to perfection. The thai platter also came with the perfect amount of bread to soak up the excess sauce after your done eating the mussles. I definely recommend eating here. Also, all three of these dishes combined was about 80$. Its surprised me, but the taste made it all worth it! read more

This is the second time I've rated Grounds 3 stars. My girlfriends and I decided to go to grounds for a late lunch. After we were sat our server did it come for a solid 15 mins. Then we ordered drinks and food. The meal was delicious and couldn't have been better but the service was a little off. Our server wasn't too friendly and seemed very shy. I also didn't see her smile at us once. When we wanted a refill of a drink or needed something else we were constantly asking other servers because we couldn't find our server. read more

The food was good, but sadly our experience was really ruined by the rudeness of our server, who is also apparently the manager, Ashley. Maybe she was overwhelmed and unaccustomed to dealing with crowds, but she was really inappropriate in front of my young daughters, and seemed annoyed when our order was prepared incorrectly. Among other things, she said something to the effect of "well you should have just eaten it so it didn't have to get wasted." She really ruined our family breakfast and upset my kids. Our whole family was really shocked but her repeated rude comments-I've never experienced anything like that before. She mentioned she was frustrated with another table, whose order she had also gotten wrong, but I don't think it excuses how she treated us and her snide comments. What a gem! A large group of us came in on Saturday morning for brunch. The size of the restaurant is very deceiving. They have a huge area in the back as well as outdoor seating. I ordered a hodgepodge of sides and really enjoyed the bacon which was a thick cut and cooked perfectly. The side of fruit was fresh and very large for a fruit portion. We all thought the service was great and they were really attentive. The breakfast burrito was also a hit as well as the super thick cut french toast. The slices were huge! This quaint little restaurant is simply awesome. The food and service are awesome and the ambiance is fantastic - whether you're indoors or outdoors on their beautiful patio. As a party of four, we sat outside on their patio for lunch. They have vines and flowers all over, and a wonderful sun cover above. The tables are spread out nicely, and there's views of the patio next door as well as other vine covered buildings and stone path alleyways leading back to the main street. They also allow dogs on their patio which is nice. We ordered many things, and everything was delicious. I had the chicken tostada grande with a latte. Both were fantastic. The tostada was probably the best I have ever had - with fresh crisp greens, plentiful chicken and veggies and a smoky tomatillo sauce to the side. Lots of olives and cheese as well. The cumin dressing - which I thought might be overpowering was a light noted accompaniment and was not too overpowering but made a light statement. The coffee was excellent as well, with nice balance - and not bitter which I liked. Five stars for great food, ambiance and service - this is a really fantastic place to eat lunch. read more

This review is for a weekend breakfast enjoyed by a party of 8; four kids, four adults. Let me say immediately that the service we got was excellent, and not once did we get the judgy-wudgy stares from staff (or other customers, which is also cool) when one or more of the kids decided to melt down. Great coffee, hot chocolate, and a nice selection of hot breakfast items. Our table ordered a bit of everything: loads of french toast, omelettes any way you like 'em, two-egg breakfast, granola with honey and yogurt, and all the sides of toast and home fries we could eat. Clean plates, even by the kids, and it was a great way to start the day. We expected a good meal from the same management who runs Firewood, and our expectations were definitely met. Cute restaurant with friendly staff , great descriptions for the food, but the flavors just aren't there. Every person was so excited by what the menu offered, but upon digging into their dish, felt disappointed. I ordered the vegetarian tostada salad, expecting to be taken on a taste bud adventure. Each bite made me think, "Maybe I need to mix this more. Maybe there's flavor in the next bite," but this kept going until I threw in the towel, folded my napkin, and covered the remaining 2/3rds of the salad in defeat. Same went for a friend who ordered their special turkey burger (that At $15, felt like a rip off) as well as another who ordered the blt. On the other hand, the sweet potato fries were GREAT. I would go back again for those and the creamy dressing to dip them in. Restrooms were tidy and the staff was nice. Our original waitress handed us off to another gal... Grounds has the potential to be a great brunch/lunch joint for both locals and tourists in Murphys. It is cute, clean, has a very fresh, low key ambiance, good food, and good prices. Sounds like 4 stars, right? The problem is the execution. On a recent weekend trip to Murphys I visited twice. Saturday lunch: I ordered a salad with no olives and selected rice (instead of beans) and tomatillo dressing (instead of a roasted red pepper dressing). Both of these options were listed on the menu. Out comes my salad, covered in minced olives. I just couldn't do it, so I asked to have them removed. Out comes salad number two, with beans and red pepper dressing. By the time my salad was prepared as originally ordered, my three dining companions were pretty much done with their meals. Monday Brunch: We stroll in to no wait and think things are looking up. We get our menus and waitress comes by 30 seconds later to take our order. I hadn't even located a place to set my purse yet. We ask for some and, no kidding, she's back a minute later. We ask for five minutes and after about 10 we flag her down. Our food then takes thirty minutes to arrive - no apology from the staff, just a "The cook's backed up and made you an omelet instead of a scramble, it'll be a few more minutes." They did comp us our coffee, which was nice. Overall, if this had happened in the city I would give 1 to 2 stars, but for a town like Murphys, this is still a 3-star establishment. read more

We spent several days in Murphys with our boys (big retrievers). Why go to Murphys? Wine, wine and more wine! There are approximately 14 wine tasting rooms in downtown Murphys and our dogs are allowed in every one of them! Also, our dogs are allowed to eat with us on the patios of most of the restaurants. I say "most" because there are a couple we haven't tried as yet. We went to Grounds for lunch with the boys and sat out on the patio. It was wonderful. The wait staff brought out water for them. It was really a hot day, so the quick thoughtfulness was appreciated. We had the BLTA (avocado) sandwiches and ice tea. Excellent sandwiches. The next morning I walked over at 7am and got 2 of their breakfast burritos. Lesson learned, order one and split it with my husband. They were huge, but delicious. We will return! read more

It was rather busy as well. The waitress was adequate but no personality. No specials I guess to report. The Cioppino had little to no flavor with very little seafood. Very disappointing to say the least. The Ribeye was cooked medium rare and was extremely tough. Again, very surprised and disappointed. Perhaps an off night for Grounds. Our first impression was "great" because we started with the Red Curry Thai Mussels appetizer, but it kind of went downhill from there. The service was perfect, no complaints at all there, but food was not as good as the prices are high. My wife had the Ciopino and as others stated it is a bit of an off flavor (not much tomato or fish stock flavor) and lite on seafood. I had the boneless pork ribs, which were OK if a bit fatty - but the wedge fries were inedible - reeking of burnt garlic or something that stuck with me for hours. We went back for breakfast (staying very nearby) and both got the "basil and tomato omelet". Well, pesto stirred into eggs is NOT basil like I expected, and the mixture came off too strongly flavored to be for breakfast. It is still probably one of the best bets on the Main street but you need to be pretty careful about your selections, and again I think it was more $$ than the food was worth. read more

While staying in town at the Victoria Inn, we enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Grounds. My husband and I shared the delicious bacon wrapped shrimp as an appetizer and I had an excellent cioppino that I would highly recommend. I'm impressed that grounds does not charge a corkage fee if you bring in wine from a local winery! I recommend going to Zucca's tasting room in town, all their wines are delicious, but Tesoro has been my favorite for several years now. read more

Not sure why it took us so long to come here for dinner. We had an amazing night! From the hostess, waitress, service and omg the food was delicious. We started with the bacon wrapped prawns & ordered a second because they were so good. I had the chicken cordon bleu & it was one of the best I've ever had. Can't say enough about this place! Amazing! Amazing service, amazing food! We had a party of 8 and they accommodated us very quickly. We ordered appetizers: mussels, calamari and bruschetta! All of it was really really good! The mussels were in a sauce that was to die for! The calamari came as strips which I had never had t that way before but it was amazing, and the bruschetta was a build your own, which was awesome. It came on a very nice platter and you picked how much and what you put on your bread! They had a really nice selection of wine to choose from and beer. I ordered the ribeye for dinner with a potato and it was cooked to perfection. Everyone at our table said that they really enjoyed their meal and they would all come back again! All the starters looked so good we ordered 4 of them. Delicious Thai mussels, and best crispy calamari strips we have had - crispy panco? I have had dipping sauces I like better but the way they were cooked was great. We are those people who try the Brussels sprouts wherever we go. These were good but a little too done for my liking. The bread and butter was delicious! We would have gone back again but there are so many dining experiences to choose from in Murphys! Lucky Penny was great the second night. I'm just reviewing the breakfast - and Grounds has an amazing breakfast! Overall I love the atmosphere of this place and the food is consistently great. BUT the only reason I don't give it 5 stars is that there are no vegan options other than just getting fruit or potatoes, which gets boring after a while. If there was an option to sub tofu instead of eggs in the scrambles it would be so wonderful. Or maybe a breakfast burrito option with potatoes and beans instead of eggs and cheese. I used to get breakfast here a couple times a week but have stopped after going vegan. ALSO I think it's a real shame that there is no weekend brunch at Grounds! I'm sure that would do so well. Went in shortly past 8:00 on a Sunday morning with the locals, figure the out of towners where sleeping off the previous days wine tasting. Was seated and waited on immediately. Our food was at the table in no time. I had the Braised chicken omelet with potatoe pancakes. The omelet was packed full of chicken and Gouda cheese, everything was very good. My wife had the morning special which was Eggs Benedict served on sour dough baguette, she said it was very good. We ate at a leisurely pace, and was back at out hotel room relaxing by 9:00 am. I suspect this place has changed hands since we were last here. Breakfast was cold, coffee was weak and Luke warm. Wait staff was untrained. There were 4 dogs on the patio dining area. We are disappointed, and done coming here. Update: We were in Murphys and decided to give it another shot. We got in just before breakfast closed, and we were treated pretty well, considering that we more or less held up everyone's day. Well, my wife's egg dish was good, and my omelette would have been good, except it was covered in frozen salsa. Literally had ice chunks in it. So much for second chances. (In reality third chance, because I never said anything when I had dinner and my medium rare steak came out very well done.) We have pretty much written off the entire Murphys scene. This place is amazing!! The breakfast was the best I've had in a really long time. I ordered the two egg breakfast with bacon. The food came out quick and everything was really hot and the bacon was really thick. I especially loved the fresh jam they offered. The service was wonderful! Staci was our server and she was extremely friendly and always there whenever we needed anything. I even had multiple people refill my coffee. We sat outside and the patio was really comfortable and the whole environment was beautiful with plants everywhere. I don't always get to go to Murphy's but this is my new favorite place and will always come back. read more

Reasonably priced cocktails and the special was amazing! We weren't 100% sure that we were going to do dinner here so we got a couple drinks and the chips with bleu cheese appetizer. It was seriously good. The chips were cut a little thicker and not fried hard so they had nice texture and taste. The appetizer convinced us to stay for dinner and man, am I glad we did. My wife got a penne pasta with porcini mushrooms in an indescribably good sauce that had a smoky and savory flavor. I had the special pork-chop over mashed potatoes and a salad. It was cooked to perfection with an amazing glaze. Holy cow one of the best chops in my life! Grounds is definitely a good choice for good eating! Went for breakfast it was so yummy we went back for supper. Prices are average for the area. Portions are generous. Husband and I split the Spanish omelet and potatoe pancake. Awesome! There was no charge to split the order, and we were more than satisfied. Their Ribeye is to "die for" coupled with a delicious wedge salad with lots of crumbled blue cheese and paired with a great wine selection. One of our favorite things about living in murphys is to take a walk downtown and have a drink and appetizer. Last night we wound up having the best cocktail I've ever had in town and it was at grounds. Caroline, our bartender, made a passion fruit margarita and it's something I will talk about for days - I guarantee it. She was personable and fun which made our experience even more awesome. She mentioned that she just came up with that drink today and she absolutely KILLED IT. I'm not normally a huge fan of margaritas but my boyfriend is and we both came to the same conclusion!
