Fantastic! We stopped in for an early dinner and had the BEST burgers we've ever had. The waitress was so sweet and the most attentive I've had in a long long time. I am sad I don't remember her name because I would request her again (blonde pony tail). The Food: I ordered The Farmer and it was so delicious. The sweetness, saltiness, and robust flavors from all ingredients were perfection. My husband ordered The Cowboy and he thoroughly enjoyed the bison burger. The fries were nicely seasoned and even came with gravy which for this relocated California Girl sounded a little odd but it was sooo good. My family and I visited during the week for dinner. We happened to be in Washington and decided to give Grub Brothers a go. I ordered the chicken tenders with French fries. I was going to order a burger but all of them had weird names and it was taking too long to read all of the ingredients for each. When you have two children two and under you just don't have time for that. :) The tenders tasted like they were hand battered in house which I do appreciate. My family and I stopped here while walking through the historic district. Our server was amazing and very attentive! As for the food....ummmmm,lol....since l love a good appetizer, I decided to order two...The "Southern Fried Smiles" which consisted of hot okra fritters and fried green tomatoes...and the "Voodoo Shrimp"...now, when I think of "Southern Fried", I think of something that is flavorful, battered, with a bit of crunch to top it all off...so, let's dissect this dish...the fried green tomatoes were firm and thick which was a plus...however, the flavor was lacking a bit and I wanted that initial crunch you get when you sink your teeth into anything fried...it took away my joy, lol..the sauce that came with it was very mayo-based...not my thing, but it didn't break the dish ...the okra fritters were more like pancakes...no crisp on the edges at all...now, let's talk about the "Voodoo Shrimp"...for the portion size to be so small (I know y'all... it's an appetizer, lol), the flavor should be jumping off the plate...however, it tasted like somebody warmed up some fried shrimp, put it a bowl, and dumped store-bought Thai chili sauce on it..No "Voodoo" here....I'm still confused about the "Voodoo" title, but they used Thai chili sauce...i digress...the dish could have been soooo much better if the shrimp was crispy, fresh, and hot and the Thai sauce was homemade with more spice!!! Or better yet, use a Cajun or Creole type of sauce to make it more "Voodoo"... Overall, the staff was definitely the highlight of this experience. Ordered The Farmer and a Pasta Salad. First of all, I like salt but not as much as was used in this Pasta Salad. Was so salty that I only had one noodle and could not eat any more. The Farmer was two pieces of Texas toast slices with a cheeseburger on top, and from there the fun begins. Hash browns, egg, what looked like onion rings, mayonnaise was on the Texas toast. We stopped in here for a quick Sunday lunch before heading home after a family visit. We were quickly seated and the staff was friendly. I had the Grueben with okra fritters. The sandwich was yummy, but I always forget that toasted marble rye is painful to eat. The fritters were good, I thought they tasted like pancakes with slices of okra mixed in. So amazing I think they're the best fried pickles in town! And the portion was big I could of just ate them as my entree and been satisfied! This is the best burger in Washington! The taste of the burger is very flavorful, well seasoned, hot, thick and juicy. I also enjoyed the seasoned hot fries. I had no disappointments with Grub Brothers. I also asked for a drink from the bar with Kahlua in it and I was pleasantly surprised by a surprise drink that was sweet and delicious. I will be going back soon and I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who is sick of the flavorless flat and bland burgers at the local fast food joints. I ordered carry out at the restaurant today. I picked up my order at the bar which is the normal procedure. I paid the bartender in cash and I placed the cash in her hand. She returned my change to me by putting it on the bar and not putting it in my hand. I think that is very rude. If I place the money in your hand why can't you return my change in my hand? This bartender's name was Cassidy. She needs to be taught some self etiquette when it comes to customer service. read more

Just cruising thru Carolina and found this cool little restaurant/bar in downtown Washington. Jordan, our server in the bar area was very friendly & informative. Good size menu with great pricing. We stopped in for lunch on a Friday around noon. My wife got their hamburger w/fries, (comes with a side of killer gravy). I got the blackened Catfish Sandwich w/honey baked apples, oh yeah, it was that good. They also have a very nice main dining area with a cool off sitting that use to be a store front window. You can also take your food & drinks to an outside area in the rear of the restaurant. That's nice! I'm giving this four stars vs. five only because the rest rooms could use an update, otherwise it be five stars. Downtown offers plenty of parking with cool artist shops close by. This is a nice area in Washington, NC. I highly recommend this place for lunch/dinner, you'll love it and the area. read more

We ate here with our kids. Bloody Mary was incredible. I had the boiled shrimp and the fried green tomatoes and both were incredible. We had the crab dip and that was fantastic too. The shrimp and grits was awful! Nasty, dried out, tough overcooked shrimp covered in a huge mound of nasty gravy that was uncooked flour/tasteless. When asked for a beer list, the waitress responded, "we have over 200 of them", and proceeded to have me come into the servers station to "search" on her computer for what I wanted. worst shrimp and grits I've ever had, bar none. I can't understand all of the positive reviews and 4-5 stars given this place. We always refer to TripAdvisor for restaurant recommendations in cities we aren't familiar with and usually we are never let down but this restaurant was awful. Fried green tomatoes were bland and we didn't care for the special dipping sauce. The okra fritters should be called okra pancakes. No good. The shrimp raging Cajun pasta was drowned in thick cheese queso. Bleckkk! Our waitress and the service was good but the food was so bad we would never go back. read more

We don't get to the eastern part of NC very often, and were very pleasantly surprised by this little gem of a restaurant in tiny Washington, NC. Inventive menu, nice service, food was hot and very good. The only downside is that the dining area that we were in was a little musty smelling. The restaurant is in an older building, and I suspect there's not much that can be done about it. If you're ever in Washington, NC, stop by you won't be disappointed. read more

Just walked out after waiting an hour in a ridiculously hot front room for food that never appeared. An elderly woman and her son were suffering a similar plight next to us. My wife has a mold-meter and it was on TEN there during our stay. If you are sensitive to mold, stay away! We found this place thanks to Yelp while in little Washington for a triathlon. I ordered the smothered pork chops with collard greens and hash brown casserole. The pork chops initially came out without being smothered. They were redone with a light amount of gravy. I'm a southern girl and this was still not smothered in my opinion. Collard greens were sweet which is not how I'm used to my greens. Hash brown casserole was deep fried which was totally unexpected. I consider myself a foodie. Even though I finished all my pork chops due to the fact this was my first real meal all day they weren't what I consider true smothered pork chops. I would recommend them as the food was tasty. Only got two stars because the service was good and the wings were ok, but the blue cheese had heavy onions in it. Who puts raw onions in blue cheese. Everything about my burger tasted old. The meat, the mushrooms, and the roll all tasted old. So disappointed would never eat here again. read more

This is a 5 star eatery but a 4 star physical location. Let's start with the service. We were a party of three and we were seated quickly and served our drinks and an appetizer in a very timely manner. Sweet tea is just sweet enough. Pickle fries are cut in long slices instead of rounds but they were very tasty. Fried green tomato bites were good but early in season green tomato don't have the tangy bite of later season but still very good. The best was the okra fritters. Fresh okra in a more pancake than fritter batter. The okra was perfect and the batter was just sweet enough. My mother in law had chicken fried steak which was very good but not special. My wife and I had the three side plates. The stewed tomatoes and okra was incredibly delicious. Sweet with a touch of heat. I ate it with a spoon to get the pot liqueur. My favorite was the grub brothers gumbo greens. Collards,tomatoes, okra and tasso side meat. I could have eaten a large bowl of these with a slice or two of cornbread and I would have been a very happy man. Which brings me to a comment from my wife that a piece of cornbread should be included with the three side plates and I have to agree. Our server was very nice and attentive giving suggestions and keeping my tea glass full. I would have given four and a half stars except for some of the physical condition of the property. Grub Brothers is in an old building in downtown Washington but it needs to get a fresh coat of paint, bathrooms, while clean, need refurbishing and a number of other smaller items need attention. All in all a very pleasant experience which I intend to do again the next time I visit the original Washington. read more

Been here a couple times while visiting the area, good selection of cold beer menu is southern style food, they offer breakfast lunch and dinner, and have salted peanuts in the shell on the bar. On this visit I ordered the "cajun kitty" the catfish was cooked and seasoned well, the bed of rice it came on was over cooked and mostly pasty and stuck together, the salsa consisted of tomato, black beans, and okra, it had good seasoning to it and was tasty. Two distinct seating areas an eleveate sit down view of Main Street and a bit more casual dining room with high tops and booths. Great menu, appear to be burger focused. Creative apps and soime nice entrees as well. Could have tried a bit of everything. Not overdone but should be able to find something for everyone. This place has great burgers. My favorite is a burger that has pulled pork right on the burger. They put bacon on almost anything. The pimento cheese grits and shrimp has great gravy on it and I highly recommend it. They also have barbecue nachos called possum in the trash. They're pretty big and covered in jalapeños. This is not a restaurant I would have chosen, but I was with a large group, and this is where they decided to eat. There were around 20 of us, and we walked in without a reservation. The staff was not frazzled by the unexpected arrival of such a large party, and they seated us right away. Our server did a good job of handling us, including our request for many separate checks, although it did take a while to get our checks and to pay when we were ready to leave. The menu is basically burgers, and I'm not a burger fan, so I ordered the meatloaf special from the blackboard. It was supposed to come with mashed potatoes, but they were out of those so I got the hash brown casserole instead. The meatloaf was topped with bbq sauce, which I didn't see on the blackboard or I would have asked that it be left off. That said, it was pretty tasty for bbq sauce; nice and spicy, and the meatloaf had a nice crust. The potatoes were pretty bland, even after adding some salt. My husband ordered the seafood chowder, which looked to be mostly potatoes and not much seafood. He said it was ok; I didn't taste it. The other people in the group seemed to enjoy their meals; they all ordered one or another of the various burgers on the menu.
