The space and staff are both great, but the BBQ -- especially the brisket platter -- didn't quite meet expectations. Brisket is one of those meats that really benefits from being smoked low and slow, so clearly the texture was oven-cooked than traditional BBQ. Everything else about the experience was enjoyable, so it may help to adjust the BBQ branding, especially for guests coming in expecting more Texas-style barbecue. read more

The family really enjoyed the French fries, salads & ribs. I had the peri peri chicken salad - was the chicken salad with lettuce, pineapple, pickled red onions, tomato & a vinegarette. I love the tropical bbq concept, I loved the taste of the tropical bbq sauce, the guy I was talking with new his products well. The $6 coconut corn side was novel and flavorful (hot, not good reheated next day). The pulled pork I bought was a mixture of shreds & chunks which I find unappealing. It had large amounts of fatty pieces, unchewable. The sauce took on a different flavor. I had to throw away the entire half pound, a $9 value. The guy said buying it as a combo I got 2 "slices" of banana bread for $1.50 more. They were not slices. They were like French toast stix and had no banana flavor. So for my $20 I had one section of the tray of the corn. Very disappointing, would not try again. read more

The restaurant is in a solid location on the north end of the island. I went with a large group, and for the price, the food didn't really stand out. Having eaten BBQ in a lot of places, I'd personally hold out for something more authentic, even if that means heading to the mainland. The staff was friendly, but the setup is order-at-the-counter and seat-yourself, so being prompted for a full-service tip felt a bit odd to me. read more

My wife and I were staying on Anna Maria Island and it was the day the island was evacuated before a hurricane. We did get out for lunch though before we evacuated to Sarasota. I ordered two IPAs and the mojo pork. Oh my gosh, the citrus sauce melds perfectly with the dead pig. Super juicy and delicious. The cucumber salad wasn't greasy at all and really refreshing! Banana bread isn't really my thing, but I could see spreading cream cheese or butter on it and making it delicious. It is counter service, but she acted as our bartender as well. She was super nice and wasn't too worried about the hurricane. Great ambiance inside, I liked the bar off to the side. Good beer selection as well. I tried a couple new IPAs, which is always a plus! My wife and I were visiting AMI for the first time from Ohio, and we had dinner at gRUB on the evening of October 2nd, 2025.....all we can say is,..... WOW!! The food was delicious, the drinks were cold and refreshing, the restaurant was clean with a unique atmosphere/vibe, and the service was top notch,....we couldn't have asked for a better experience. The young man who waited on us was friendly, helpful, and extremely attentive. We didn't get his name but he was definitely an asset to the business! Finally got a chance to try this place out and was so happy we did! They have a mall outside seating area where I was able to have my pup. The place is new, clean and has great service! We all had the empanadas and loved them! And enjoyed the potato salad as well. But the banana bread is by far the most amazing I have ever had!! Try it!! The Frose was also amazing! Excellent food and friendly service. Be sure to try ANYTHING with pineapple. I was skeptical of my chicken salad with pineapple, but it was delicious! The mashed plantains are a must try too. Looks like they have a great bar for some friendly meet ups too. read more

Brisket platter was dry and grey. Plastic silverware made it difficult to cut & eat. Too expensive for value. Bartender/Waitress at bar was very rude & condescending. Three sauces: Ketchup, Hot Sauce & some semi sweet liquidy bbq sauce that tasted like sugar water. No thickness at all. Tasted bland. We actually aren't tourists. We live close by. Ben and Yolanda were amazing hosts in welcoming in our large group. We had a diverse group of people with dairy and gluten free allergies, and Ben graciously went through each menu item for each person to verify the sides and sandwiches. You cannot go wrong with anything here. Yolanda was even kind enough to remember each of our names even as we walked out the door. Can't speak for the food, but we enjoyed the coffee shop in here so much! We stumbled upon this place because North Shore Cafe was closed. But honestly, the latte's are way better here! Excellent espresso (if you're an espresso snob like me). We came back twice while staying on the island. Got an iced vanilla latte one day and a hot one the next day. The owner is very knowledgeable when it comes to the art of coffee/espresso. Great service and great espresso. read more

Buyer beware -- You can get an affordable drink on either end of pine but the the prices here are ridiculous $9for a draft beer. $8.50 high noons and $8 for non alcoholic beer. And to make it worse the bartender was a b$c@"h. Not sure what the issue was since others said great staff. Not my vibe at all. Paid the bill but will not be back. Went here on vacation and the staff were great but unfortunately two of us got horrific food poisoning. The burger has "bacon jam" on it which was a pile a gray pork on top of the sandwich. I have to say that gRUB was so good, my husband said he wouldn't mind a second visit for their Bahn Mi. The staff were so nice and welcoming and were glad to offer suggestions. This place is excellent. I had a Cuban sandwich with cucumber salad. It was perfect. Everyone raved about the plantain mash. It is a must. The service is excellent. Charlie greeted us with a smile. She was very knowledgeable about the menu. She gave me good advice on what to eat and she DID NOT DISAPPOINTE! The owner came to greet us. He was very nice. Shaved brisket was grey, tough, and primarily fat. The pulled chicken didn't even look like pieces of chicken and was topped with only hot sauce. Wings were OK and ribs were OK! If you are looking for a place with more than one barbecue sauce, then don't eat here. There are no side selections for kids! Whoever heard of having a barbecue place with no mac & cheese! Nothing makes sense at this place! Prices are outrageous and food is horrible. I don't like writing negative reviews, but people need to know before they think about eating at this place! read more

We wanted to try a new place. The ribs sounded so tasty. My husband and I both ordered the ribs. My husbands were an inch thick, where as mine were more like a quarter of an inch. I ordered a Cuban sandwich, the pork was DRY and unseasoned and the cheese was the only thing with flavor it seemed like. You. Can barely taste the mustard and pickle, and it was dripping in grease, how can something be so dry and greasy at the same time! Next, we ordered a Caesar salad with a side of chicken, the salad was like the only edible thing out of all the food we ordered. The side of chicken was okay...not the best (I wouldn't order it) it was quite fatty and overall just not what I expected. The empanada should be classified offensive to the proper culture. Absolutely NO seasoning, and it just tasted sooo bland and dry. I'll stick with my homemade empanadas with the right and PROPER ingredients. Lastly we ordered the banana bread...you can't go wrong with a bit of banana bread...they did! It was more like raisin bread, it was the only moist food item they had. Overall I would NEVER come here again. The area is nice, the searing is nice and the overall restaurant was cute. The service was subpar, the lady taking our food was a bit snappy but I don't blame her because it was so hot out and they didn't have any AC!
