While we did enjoy Chat-N-Chew and Safita at this location, but now, this is exactly what this stretch of the Post Road needs right up against Southport! A bit of the UK just steps away, and then down the road there's the well established French bakery/cafe. Wow, Fairfield is kicking butt with such diverse food options! Ok, who's gonna open a Belgian waffle place? The egg sandwich, avocado toast and salmon toast were all perfectly prepared and delicious. Excellent latte and americano - the beans are obviously roasted just right bringing the rich coffee flavor without any bitterness, unlike the overly roasted beans at S'buck's. The environment is warm and comfortable with enough tables to go around on Saturday morning, with the parking lot almost full. The staff is young and friendly, bringing your food to the table after you order, so they're not shouting out your name to come and get it. Next time we go, will order the full English breakfast (available only on weekends) - hadn't had one of those since we were in London many years ago - that breakfast I shared with my 2 kids and we were full, so looking forward to trying that here! read more

This a great new hot spot in Fairfield just on the border of Southport. Dine in or take out. Stopped in for a late and breakfast sandwich. Was wowed by the presentation. Ceramic cups and served with seltzer. True European , to have with my espresso. Ordered a egg sandwich and it was on a beautiful brioche bun buttered, again presented a an English plate, liked all the details. Had delicious coffee that the owner's son is purveyor of. Of course bought some to bring home. Beautiful cakes can be ordered, catering offered, and prepared meals for home. Like stuffed mushrooms, shepherd's pie, soups to name a few. I also ordered a baked good. Lemon gluten free cake. Service was friendly, effecient. Clean space. Will definitely tell friends and go back. read more

Yet another amazing restaurant in fairfield but in a breakfast capacity. If you want a proper English breakfast look no further. Well unless you want to go to New York. The loaded scone is my wife all time favorite; always amazing. For me anything paired with bangers is a sure win. It's always a good start to a day having breakfast here. Just a word of caution, the place is small and cannot accommodate a lot of people, so grab a English flag by the door and anxiously wait your turn. Definitely worth the wait. read more

This place usually gets five stars from me but the recent visit was somewhat disappointing. The food was great as usual and their coffee is top notch. Light roast and well-balanced. I sat outside under the tree and it was not so busy. The staff kept coming to my table asking if I needed anything or if I needed more food. Several staff several times in about 25 minutes. It ruined a relaxing cup of coffee and breakfast. either they were disorganized or wanted to hustle me out. advice is to go there when it's not the weekend. read more

I love this little cafe! I've come here for brunch twice now. I was a bit confused at first but the staff said that you purchase your food and then sit down. The second time I think they changed to table service. It's quite small so if you come at lunch time you may have to wait for a table. The food is very tasty! The best thing I've had so far is their loaded scone. The scone itself has a sugared topping and it's filled with clotted cream, strawberry jam and fresh strawberries. The chicken sandwich was very flavorful as well. I wasn't a huge fan of the GB egg sandwich as the brioche bun didn't seem to pair well with the egg/sausage/onion/aged cheddar filling. My husband really enjoyed the full English breakfast which came with eggs, buttered toast, beans and bangers. read more

This was our first time visiting GB, it was amazing. My husband had the Shepherds Pie, my daughter had the Lobster Tacos and I had a chicken dish special. Went here for dinner since I really wanted to try some British food and it was a good choice! The service is really great and they have some cool classic British dishes too. We had to wait about 15 minutes before getting a table since the place is very small, but they offered us a round of drinks to make up for it! We got the fish chowder and burrata plate and both were pretty good. The wait was my main issue, it took almost 20 minutes for our appetizers and another 25 for the mains. They only had 1 Shepard's Pie left but they offered a discount on the rack of lamb to make up for it, again just really nice service. We also got the Fish n Chips, also good and not too greasy. For dessert, they ran out of the Sticky Toffee Pudding which was a bummer, but the Housemade Pavlova was amazing! So light and fruity, it's a must if you come here! If you come here, make sure you get in early so you won't have to wait for a table or worry about food running out. Other than that, the service was really nice and generous! Great service, food and atmosphere. This a unique spot with traditional English foods and some fun twists. The breakfast burrito with bangers and back bacon is great. The tarragon chicken sandwich is another crowd pleaser. The lobster cob salad is huge. The hibiscus iced tea is refreshing. Finally, the desserts are incredible. Our server was so friendly and even offered us an additional dessert at no cost because the topping was not exactly uniform so they would not be selling it. It was a delicious mini lemon tart. I'll start with the positives. Warm and cozy...though a little too cozy for my pandemic sensibility...we were sat in a far corner which put me more at ease. Our server was excellent. Informative, attentive, welcoming (and appropriately apologetic when the time came). She suggested a wine as an alternative to what we requested, gave us a taste and it was perfect. After waiting for over half hour for our 3 meals, I was more than disappointed and quite hungry. The green beans and salad that came with my meal were delightful, though could have use a tad more dressing. I ordered Shepherds pie. I love lamb, and thought it would be the perfect choice in an authentic British establishment. Huge disappointment. 2 inch thick mashed potatoes plopped on top, not finished at all with the wonderful crust one expects ( or saw in photos). The potato mash was adequately flavored. Under the potato was a meager liquid with a few granules of ground lamb and no discernible veggies. Our server was kind, apologetic and was also surprised how sparse the "meat" of the dish was. I changed my order to the meatloaf wrapped in bacon. Flavorful, though the bacon was very underdone and the meat warmed not piping hot. Icing on the cake was being confronted by the chef/owner who wanted to convince me that the shepherds pie is well loved and is exactly how it's always done, with lots of au jus. The only thing there was lots of was mashed potatoes. It's hard to fathom that she would proudly serve that to company in her own home. She persisted until I told her I looked forward to trying her meatloaf and that I wanted to spend my time with my friends. Honestly, if she didn't have the ingredients to make the shepherds pie, it should have been taken off the menu, because it reflected perfectly the restaurant's name...Gruel Britania. read more

I have consistently visited this place and brought family and friends to eat here. The food is great. The ambience and the owner is not. The first time I visited with my newborn baby I was asked to move TWICE. To make space for other people. Fair enough. I don't mind at all helping people squeeze in. This restaurant is extremely tight and small. The second time I visited with my baby, I reiterated that I'd be happy to move and double checked with 2 servers it was ok for me to sit there. Half way between my meal I was interrupted by the owner telling us that this isn't really the place to bring babies, it's small and there's people waiting. I am from England and absolutely love visiting. But I will no longer be eating here because of the owners complete disregard for anyone. read more
