Came in late Sat night with a friend & I loved the vibe of the place! It's not too formal but def not a casual pizzeria so it is a great place for a date or a nice hangout with friends or family. They have a pretty good happy hour deal of a large free cheese pizza with a purchase of any bottle of wine or pitcher of beer. It's been such a long time that I've had thin crust pizza that I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it! I'm excited to try the pizza with toppings. Although I wonder given the thinness of the pizza, if the toppings would overpower the basic ingredients. We haven't had thin crust pizza in a while and thought what better place to stop than Gruppo's?! It's been years since we visited but Gruppo's still got it! As a small group, we ordered the personal pies of Classic Margherita and Salsiccia Dolce. We could not remember the personal size as an option back then and decided to give it a try. The Margherita was saucy and had great flavors with the fresh mozzerella. The salsiccia was sweet and savory with the caramelized onions and sausage. However, we were unable to justify the price of the personal pie. It seems like the price would include at least a small salad or side to accompany the personal pie! The Grandma pie was great but the tomatoes could have been roasted a little on the pie and a little salt would have made a huge difference. The star of the show was the plain pie! They were full of flavor, not greasy and just the right cheese to crust ratio. The restaurant was clean and the server was courteous and friendly. Gruppo what happened!! It truly SADDENS me to write this review. I've been a loyal customer for the longest. I understand COVID has affected many restaurants. However it is no excuse to serve underwhelming pizza with upcharge. We had our usual Formagio Bianco and Shroomtown. It was delivered cold and the flavors were very off. It didn't have the same aroma and bite to the pizza at all. Worst offense was that their thin crust which is usually light crisp that reminds you of crackers when you bite into it, wasn't there. OMG after trying Lombardi's, Pizza, Bleecker St. Pizza, Prince Street, and Artichoke Pizza, Gruppo was a clear winner. We only decided to give Gruppo a try because a friend recommended it and it was convenient to her apt. Otherwise, we would have 100% missed out on such great pizza due to the low reviews compared to the other pizzas mentioned. Ingredients were fresh. Crust was crispy. Cheese was stingy. Sauce was on point. We ordered a personal pizza which is 9" and you can do half half! We did the meat lovers and shroomtown. After we ordered, my friend texted me and told me that I MUST try their plain pizza. The fatties that we were, we had to order it too. Thankfully they had lunch specials. 2 slices of plain for $6 and $5 to add a pint of draft beer = $11. It was already $9 for a pint so for $3 extra, we were sold. The texture and crunchy-ness from the slice was different than the personal pizza. Personal was actually crispier and browner. BF LOVED the mushrooms on his shroomtown with truffle oil. I liked the plain more but the crust on the personal more. We're so glad that we decided to try Gruppo on our last day in NY. Service was great. You can sit inside and don't have to stand while you shove a slice down your throat and deal with tons tourist. read more

This is a tough one because the pizza from Gruppo is easily 5-star. It's really, really, REALLY, good. But overall I wasn't super impressed with anything else about my dinner here. First off, the noise level here is annoying. I'm not usually bothered by loud restaurants but what weirded me out was the music. They were alternating between really loud pop music and normal-volumed Christmas music. I loved the Christmas music, but the loud pop music was off-putting and made the restaurant way loud bc it caused everyone having a conversation to start to basically yell. As far as the food goes, as I said the pizza was amazing. The thin crust was surprisingly crisp and the Meat Lovers pizza was perfectly balanced. However, the lasagna was just ok. All lasagna is good lasagna, but this was nothing special. Tbh I could've made better myself. I was a little disappointed with the limited wine menu as well. There's nothing better than a good glass of wine with Italian food so I was surprised how few options there were. If you're looking for just a good pizza, Gruppo is a solid option; but there are so many good Italian restaurants in the area that offer great food plus a great dining experience that I would go back to before Gruppo. read more

My party of 5 made reservations in advance for Thursday night at 8 PM which wasn't necessary because it was fairly empty. Originally we were all going to order personal pies but we were advised by our waiter that because of the thin crust, we'd probably need more if we were hungry Ultimately we were very grateful we listened to his advice because we got 3 large pies, one personal pie and one chicken salad and the 5 of us ending up eating most of it. The pizza here is insanely crispy (honestly made me wonder how they were able to keep the pizza crispy while loading on the toppings) I got half meat lovers half tres fuegos (spicy marinara with shrimp) I personally love trying unique toppings on my pizza but I wouldn't recommend the tres fuegos to someone who enjoys a more classic style pizza. The meat lovers was amazing and again, cannot emphasize enough how crispy the pizza was. Our waiter was friendly and personable and didn't rush us out the door even when he realized we were finished with our meal but still hanging out and chatting.
