I would have given this a 5 star rating but the price was almost twice of what I expected to pay. I looked up on Angie's list and others what it generally costs to replace a 50 amp breaker. Without any issues (which mine did not have) it said it is generally $200-$400. My cost even with a discount was $687. However, Benny came out and inspected my breaker for the hot tub and it was bad. He did a great job checking the breaker, the main electrical box and even after replacement made sure the hot tub was back to good working order. He called when he was on his way and gave me an ETA. He was very friendly and professional. Left me with some recommendations for the future and advised me of a new code in place which my panel does not have. I needed a light switch replaced. Gubruds showed up and insisted on doing a full inspection of my electrical boxes, even though my house was built only three years ago. When they couldn't find anything that needed fixing, not surprisingly, they recommended installing a surge protector on my main panel. When I said I only wanted the switch replaced, they gave me a quote of $650. You're reading that right. $650. I sent them packing. Took off his shoes outside, and brought slippers to wear inside our house. He was very thorough and checked all of our smoke alarms and then replaced the mail one which was electrically wired. I had Gubruds install a 240 electrical outlet in my garage to charge my electric vehicles in June of this yr 2025. Over weekend mobile charger reduced speed and said something was wrong with electrical outlet. I called them Monday morning on 12/29 and they said they would have someone out there next day between 8am-10am and I would receive a call 20 min prior to let me know electrician was on the way. I got a call at 7:40 am and recieved a text with the name, picture and experience of the electrician who was on the way. Never had that done before. Marcus showed up before 8 am followed by another electrician behind him. They tested outlet changed out the breaker and fixed the problem in under 30 min. I then asked how much did I owe and he said nothing, because it was still under warranty. WHAT!!! They put it in over 6 months ago .I was shocked. We have an old Craftsman built in 1925 that was in serious need of a new electrical system. Gubruds came out and did a free walk-through with photos to give us clear quotes on the different options for a whole-house rewire. They were considerably below other quotes and much more thorough so we went with them. The electricians, Marcus and Bud, were extremely competent, polite and careful with the lathe and plaster walls, old fixtures and furniture. They provided excellent labeling on the new box, super clean wiring and fixtures/receptacles. Communication was prompt and clear, costs were laid out upfront and they checked in with us throughout to make sure the work was up to our expectations. Marcus and Bud did an amazing job, the price was very reasonable, and although the overall project took a bit longer than we anticipated (due to also getting a new roof and solar panels which Gubruds also coordinated for us), we are very happy with how everything turned out. I needed an ethernet cable drop from one room to another in a single story house. The technician showed up prompt and was professional. Unfortunately, I didn't go through with the service. He wanted to charge me $2100 for the job. If he wanted to run cable throughout the entire house and all 5 rooms, that would be acceptable but a single room for $2100? Really??? If you're looking for a similar job I recommend using the "Thumbtack" app. After I posted the job I got several hits. Maybe not as professional as the owner describes. A Grubruds' Rep came by to look at Service Panel replacement and provide an estimate for replacement. The Grubruds' Rep did provide an estimate, but the details (Important Stuff - Panel size, breakers, etc.. ) were incorrect. I recontacted the Rep, and asked him to fix the estimate, and he agreed. The Rep never got back to me. I called Gubruds on multiple occasions (phone and emails) and asked to speak to management. Besides going to the Gubruds general email, my last email went to the owner, Jay, and son-n-law, Tyler (manager). No one from Gubruds called me back. I guess they don't need my business (roughly $10K). If you do call Gubruds, beware! read more

I was happy with your service, but not at all with the cost. The first visit was $474 minus the $149 ($325) for same day service. The repair consisted of replacing the belt, which I provided. At that time I was told the ceiling grate needed to be replaced because a slat had been sucked up into the fan and it would be replaced for the cost of $368 with no installation charge, due to possible repair persons fault. The total for both jobs came to $693 (plus $149 for same day service) to replace a belt, which, again, I supplied. Seems like I could have a whole new fan for that price. I don't appreciate price gouging and being taken advantage of. P.S. I didn't mention the first quote was $525 and when I questioned it he lowered it to $474. read more

I scheduled an electrician because I installed a new light fixture in my son's room but the fixture was not turning off with a newly installed light switch. I was told that it would cost $79 for an electrician to come out. When the electrician arrived for the appointment, the fee to actually diagnose the problem jumped up to $179. Then what was the $79 fee for? To have them ring the doorbell? Upon examination by the electrician, the light switch receptacle wasn't controlling the light fixture at all and a new leg had to be run down from the fixture to the tune of $400+. I felt like I was deceived by the initial charge. Just let your customers know that the starting cost for diagnosis at the home is at the very least $179. That would have changed my mind from the very onset. Even the electrician said the way the dispatch operators explain the price is confusing. If your own people know it's a problem, how do you expect your customers to react??? read more

I was experiencing an electrical emergency at my home and the Gubrud's team came out within one hour of my phone call. Highly, highly recommend Gubruds. Marco and Geon(?) did an extremely well job with my project. They were very professional and friendly. I called on a Wednesday to have an in home estimate for my project which consisted of installing a new dedicated 20a circuit to my dinning room to provide more power for a very large aquarium. Marco was able to come out two days later on a Friday, did a quick estimate and scheduled the start date that upcoming Thursday. The estimate was fairly reasonable, probably even better than others. Come Thursday, he was able to install the new circuit within 3 hours. He did an amazing job and I'm extremely happy with the job done. I forgot to mention during the estimate that I wanted dual outlets instead of a single, and he was easily able to accommodate my request. I'm glad I decided to go with Gubruds for this project. I was very pleased with my first contact with Gubrud's Electrical. The tech had to birddog a ruined receptacle that my handyman could not find! He found it and had everything working again in just a short time. Very courteous and friendly tech. He was teaching a young man, and their interactions were great! Good teacher. So this time I knew just who to call for some work I wanted. The scheduler was couteous and found me a good time. They followed up with reminder text messages. My tech was Bonnie. She was friendly, petted my dog (who seemed to like her), asked questions about the jobs i wanted done. First, she taught me a bit about GFI's so i can resolve a certain problem myself if it happens again. Then she went to work installing a new exterior receptacle and removing some old sconces. 6/20/23 Hired Gubruds to bring our electrical panel up to code and install a dedicated line to the microwave. Benny started out by showing up 4 hours late and his assistant Mike was even 1 hr. later. This company does not show up on time! They even sold us a "Guardian Membership" which guarantees we will be bumped up in front of others to show up on time. That is a waste of money! Plus you can only use 1 coupon at a time. I tried to combine 5 of the coupons but was denied. After paying them for the work, I asked for a receipt but did not get one. An itemized invoice would have been nice to show how much each item costs and each discount. Breakdown labor & materials would have been nice. Benny told me this company has a computer bid for them. Therefore you never get an itemization of costs. It's just one lump sum. I will not be using this company again or recommend them!!!!! read more

Negative 100 stars. Two of the outlets and light switch in our house were not working all of a sudden. We have an old house so we thought we need to get an electrician. We found this company on Angie's List. We called and we were told they will come to check the problem for free and give us a quote. They came over, didn't look at anything, and told us it would cost $266 for a diagnostic and easy fix. We became suspicious. They looked at our circuit breaker box. We asked them how much to change two outlets with GFCI. They said the whole thing would cost $600+. We became more suspicious and said no. Then they lowered it to $400+. We said no because it felt shady. When they left. After reading things on the Internet, we decided to go to the circuit breaker box and turned off everything and turned it all back on, and then voila, the outlets and light switch that was broken is now working. So these people were gonna charge us hundreds of dollars to turn the switch back off and on? read more

We had several light fixtures, a ceiling fan and exhaust fan installed. Gubrud's had no problem with doing the job since we had purchased our fixtures and did not get them through Gubrud's. We had a slight hiccup when the receptionist did not actually reschedule my appointment. The day of, no one showed up. She apologized and rescheduled for a couple of days later. Benny was so pleasant and went above and beyond when getting my down rod for the ceiling fan to work. I ordered the wrong one. Updated 7/2/19: Another contractor just came out and told me that all that needed to be done was turn on the secondary switch in the attic (which Gubrud's installed in 2006), and when that switch was turned on the whole house fan worked perfectly. So instead of repairing or replacing my whole house fan, which Gubrud's was going to do for between $1500 and $3K, I paid $100 for a service call. Draw your own conclusions. Got an estimate for installation of a whole house fan. Unfortunately the estimate did not break down the cost of the unit from the installation, nor did the invoice give the model number of the unit making comparison shopping impossible. I had to make 3 calls to Gubrud's to get the information I needed. They wanted to charge me $3K for a $1400 whole house fan, meaning that their charge for installation was $1600 or about $200/hour which is outrageous. Their lack of transparency is appalling and I will never use this company again, nor would I recommend them to anyone. read more

Gubrud's hit the mark on a number of things that are very important to me as someone shopping for a contractor. They answered the phone promptly, listened to my description of the work to be done and understood what I was looking for, and they scheduled an estimate appointment that was timely rather than weeks and weeks out. I had a number of projects to get done: updating knob and tube wiring and grounding outlets throughout my 1937 home, adding outlets and switches in a number of rooms, installing new light fixtures, improving wiring in my garage, and modernizing an outdated breaker box. Jeffrey, the electrician who did my estimate, listened to my wish list and proposed a number of different options for what I was looking to accomplish, and explained what the result of each option would be if I chose it. I was confident with what the plan was for all the work when I scheduled the appointment. The work itself took three days, the first day with electricians Bonnie and Marcus and the next two with just Marcus. They showed up promptly and were very courteous in my home, listened to my concerns and consulted with me whenever there was a question about how I wanted things done. When they were done with the work each day, they cleaned up any mess or debris and made sure I had all my questions answered before leaving. Throughout the process I never felt out of the loop or unclear about what was going on. There were a few things on my admittedly long wish list that didn't get communicated correctly from the electrician who drew up the estimate to the ones who completed the work, but we sorted that out right away because they walked through the list with me before beginning work. I never felt like the work wasn't being done properly or safely. I am incredibly relieved to now have safe and modernized electrical components in my home, and I feel confident in the work that Gubrud's electricians did. read more

Do you want emergency or regular" Cluck can't tell me what the emergency will cost. So cluck books appt. Cluck says she has to TRANSFER me to the place that does the emergency stuff. So cluck books appt and I ask when I will get to talk to the emergency place. Cluck says I ....can't....because she booked the appointment. I hired Gubruds Electrical to repair/service/replace my next door neighbor's smoke alarms. Robert Vergara did the job and was by far the most efficient, knowledgeable, and articulate person I've ever had do work for me. He replaced a couple of smoke alarms and made sure that all of them were working fine.
