Let me start by saying that we were just in London last year and had the most spectacular lunch (dare I say "life changing") at the Air Street location. The food was overall great, but the CHIPS!! Those chips made all other chips/fries in London pale in comparison to these Hawksmoor chips! We talked very highly of those chips in London and recommended Hawksmoor to anyone who asked. So when the hubs and I had the unexpected opportunity to go to NYC for 2 days, we bypassed Luger or Gallagher's to go to Hawksmoor...for those chips! Overall food was great. Caesar salad and scallops for appetizers were great. Ribeye was great, creamed spinach was great, sticky pudding and peanut butter Louis for dessert was great. The chips....not so great. We started out by asking our server if the chips on the menu were the same ones that were in London and he assured us they were so we made sure we ordered the right ones. The other potatoes on the menu he described as "hash browns". London chips were fat, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. NYC chips were just thin cut fries! McDonald's fries were better. The disappointment in my face stayed on the whole day! For the record, this review would've had less stars had it not for (who we think was the manager) come to us after our meal and discuss how the NYC location did change the way the "fries" were made. Came here for a friend's graduation dinner and left genuinely disappointed, which stings because I had high expectations going in. The vibe when you first walk in is great, and I grabbed an old fashioned at the bar while waiting for my table, which was pretty good. We started with Vietnamese and classic oysters, both decent and refreshing, then moved into the tartar and pork belly as appetizers. No complaints there. For the main event we went big, a 44 oz porterhouse and a 16 oz Chateaubriand, and this is where things fell flat. The quality of the meat itself was there, you could tell, but it was so bland. Just meat. No depth, no seasoning, nothing that made you feel like it was worth what you paid. I expected to be blown away and instead I was just sitting there underwhelmed. The sides, mac and cheese, creamed spinach, and fries, were fine, but the fries were honestly the best part of the meal. The fries. At a steakhouse. Service was a whole other issue. My waiter switched mid-meal with zero heads up, and during that transition everything slowed to a crawl. The first waiter was actually solid, so that made the drop-off more noticeable. On top of that, the second waiter's hair kept bumping into me and my friend, more than once, which was uncomfortable and just added to the frustration. The biggest miss though was the halibut. One person in our group doesn't eat steak so they ordered the halibut, and it simply never came out. We only realized it after we had already finished our steaks. When we brought it up, it felt like they had forgotten about it entirely and were just throwing it on the grill at that point. When we said we no longer wanted it, the response was "are you sure, we're about to plate it," which felt tone deaf given the situation. We ordered... - Dozen Vietnamese oysters and they were delicious. I think they got confused and brought out a dozen of their natural oysters (which were better than the Vietnamese oysters). They basically said that it was dropped off so just eat them and enjoy. No charge! - Got the Ribeye and Chateaubriand. They were perfectly medium rare. Super tender and delicious! - Crispy beef fat potatoes were fluffy on the inside and crunchy on the outside. But there weren't too many. One per person (there were 5 of us). - Mash & gravy... nothing special. - Mushrooms Diane were delicious! I mean, it's OK they're gonna give you a smaller portion, who needs half a cow right? But if they do, they should charge accordingly. This restaurant is stunning! I got so excited when I realized that there is a location in New York City, because I heard good things about the Sunday roast in London. I came here for lunch, because a friend had recommended their steak frites, and it did not disappoint. The restaurant is stunning inside and super spacious. There's a high ceiling and there's also a lower level which is where the bathrooms are. I got the two course lunch special, which was $40 pre-tip and tax, and I got the Caesar salad as well as the steak frites. Both were delicious, and the service was also incredible. One of my friends ordered a steak that was supposed to be medium well, but instead it came well done, and even though she didn't want to make a big deal out of it, I think that a server had overheard, so then someone came over to make sure that the feedback was sent back to the kitchen. Winter Restaurant Week Review 4/6- Located "across the pond" from their original spot, Hawksmoor is a large British steakhouse that I've been to a couple of times. The first time I was here was back in August for their excellent desserts, which rotate seasonally and match the British menu, and the most recent time was for restaurant week a few days ago. This spot specifically offers it for lunch from Monday to Saturday, with two courses for $45. The place also offers a comparable express lunch menu outside of restaurant week, with 2 courses for $40 or 3 courses for $55, which is a slightly better deal if you don't mind getting 2 oz less of their rump steak and fewer side choices. The service was friendly, and the place is bright and inviting with a nice-looking bar. I didn't bother with a drink, though someone else enjoyed a glass of wine. As with most of us, I went with the main dish and dessert. However, I decided to start with the Ash-Baked Beets Salad with pickled fennel, horseradish, and hazelnuts for $19, which is also part of that menu. There were plenty of beets, all well roasted, and the hazelnuts were lightly toasted, with a nice occasional crunch. My favorite part was the fennel, which added a sour snap. The horseradish was shaved on top, similar to a prime rib, and thankfully wasn't overpowering. This was tasty and worth it. Another person decided to skip dessert and enjoyed the Smoked Salmon with herbed cream cheese and Guinness bread, which is normally $24. Outside of one person who doesn't eat beef, the rest of us decided to order the Rump & Side as a main. This consisted of a 10oz dry-aged rump, 2oz less than the steak on the main menu, which is normally $45. The choice of sides included Boston lettuce salad, lemon spinach, sweet potato, and beef-fat fries. The steak was simply presented, was surprisingly tender for the cut, and was beefy. I went with the fries, which had a good crisp and came with a very different type of ketchup, which was more the British style, as it was much less sweet and much more tomato-focused, which I preferred. It was a good steak, but I have preferred some other spots. Someone else got the sweet potato, which was quite large, and I tried a bit of the spinach, which was decent. Two of the other people there decided to get the Peppercorn, or rather au poivre sauce, for an extra $7.50. This wasn't necessary, but the au poivre was decently flavored with a mildly peppery taste and was a bit less buttery, similar to the side of spinach. The person who doesn't eat beef got the Warm Lobster Roll for an extra $10 with garlic butter and bearnaise, which she liked a lot and appeared to contain a lot of lobster. This also comes with beef-fat fries, and the kitchen was nice enough to substitute them for regular fries. For dessert, there were two seasonal options along with the Sticky Toffee Sundae. I shared said sundae with the Walnut & Whisky Mille-Feuille, with pear compote, whisky cream, candied walnuts, and pear sorbet. As per last time I was here, I find their sticky toffee sundae a bit too cloyingly sweet, but that comes with the nature of this dish, so I can't fault the place. The mille-feuille was excellent, though with a bit of spice, some pear sweetness, and nicely crusty pastry. I tried a bit of the Brown Butter Orange Tart with orange jam, spiced custard, and orange ice cream. This had a complex mixture of bitterness, spices, and sweetness. He found it alright, but I enjoyed it. Compared to our previous visit, the desserts were better the first time we were here. The mille-feuille was previously an outstanding tropical version, and I slightly preferred that texture and presentation. The Pavlova last time also had a citrus base, but was with raspberry and strawberry instead of lemon, and was excellent. Lastly, for non-changing desserts, the Peanut Butter Louis was a bit rich but very tasty. At least from what I have had so far, I would recommend this place particularly for its appetizers and desserts, which are a bit different from those at other steakhouses. If I could give this place a zero star review I would. I visited the restaurant twice. The first time everything I ordered was sold out for the night. The waiter didn't let me know until the order was put in. I let the waiter know that I had a specific food allergy. After they gave us the food the waiter came back five minutes later to let me know that what I was eating had my specific food allergy. The second time I came, we ordered a 34 ounce portion of steak. When the food arrived, the portion looked more like a 28 or a 26 ounce. I ended up going to a restaurant afterwards with the people I came with because we're still hungry for our meal. We spoke to the waiter and explained to them that we ordered a 34 ounce and they claimed that it was a 34 ounce. As we're leaving the assistant manager said the next time you'll come will give you free drinks. There is never be a next time. The decor at Hawksmoor NYC is on point; warm lighting, rich wood accents, and a classy atmosphere at first glance. Unfortunately, that's where the positives mostly end. The tables are packed so tightly together that it feels cramped, and the noise level is so high you practically have to yell to hold a conversation. The steak was lackluster, with uneven fat distribution and very little marbling. Presentation was also underwhelming. The creamed spinach had an odd rosemary flavor that didn't really fit, and the mac and cheese was heavy and extremely stringy. Some might enjoy that, but it wasn't for me. The Vietnamese oysters were a bright spot with unique flavors that complemented their brininess nicely. The scallops were over seasoned but still decent. The bone marrow was disappointing, too fatty and buried under caramelized onions, which completely overpowered the marrow flavor. The accompanying toast was burnt and hard. The Old Fashioned was weak on bourbon, and while the lobster tasted good, it was heavily seasoned and overpriced at $140 for about a 1.5-2 lb portion drenched in rosemary garlic butter. For a $650 dinner for two, I expected far more. Between the noise, uneven execution, and inflated prices, I'd rather stick with the classic NYC steakhouses that consistently deliver. read more

Well done, Hawksmoor NYC! Your performance, certainly not your steak. I came for Sunday Roast with a small group, and we were thoroughly impressed with the experience. The space itself was stunning, with high ceilings and lots of natural light. Our booth was really comfortable. Service was excellent, from the front door through paying the bill. Everyone was friendly, professional, and ready with recommendations about the menu. We took individual plates for the Sunday Roast. Certainly not cheap at $55 per plate, but you definitely get great food and a healthy portion. The steak was cooked to perfection, with a nice pink center that looks like it came straight out of a cookbook. And the sides were nicely seasoned (but the steak stole the show). I also tried their house old fashioned, which apparently is infused with brown butter. It was quite delicious, giving almost a creamy texture and a little bit of saltiness to the drink that worked well. Really nice treat, and while it was pricey, it was still relatively tame compared to some other steakhouses, with just as much good food to be had. I don't remember the Sunday Roast being so expensive when I had it either and it was a lot more filling. The rump itself was nice and soft. I don't know if there was much flavor, but the gravy helped with that. The carrots were a nice balance to the bitter greens. The two potatoes were nice and crisp. The yorkshire pudding on flamboyant display, was kind of a let down. It had no flavor and ironically, it was very flat. The rib eye for $73 was good, but pretty lacking in terms of the amount for the cost. Monkey bar has a ribeye that comes with fries and is only $55. We had to order fries separately. If you were wondering how a non-steak lunch went at a steakhouse, boy oh boy, do I have the review for you! Hawksmoor is both classy yet casual. The spacious interior is woodsy, yet brightly lit. And guests are free to dress without a dress code. As a solo diner I was immediately greeted and seated and chose their lunch special which included 2 courses for $40. I would have gone for the 3 courses for $55 but really wanted to try the Sticky Toffee Pudding so opted for that instead. The staff is super kind, and even chatted with us for a bit while we waited for the downpour outside to pass! For starters I had the Heirloom Tomato Salad and was obsessed. Its not revolutionary, but the tomatoes were flavorful and the burrata was luxurious. With the herbs added, it was both a satisfying yet somewhat light dish. For a main, I got the Coronation Chicken Salad, which was confusing but still enjoyable! The pieces of chicken were super tender and juicy. It also came with nuts, sev (fried chickpea pieces), raisins, and a lime pickle dressing. So it had a very much Indian flavor profile which I was not expecting. Still tasty though. That sticky toffee pudding though, probably the best you will find in the states. It has such a deep, caramel flavor to it that ends on a wonderfully bitter note. The sauce is luxurious and don't forget to complete your bite with a dash of ice cream. My only complaint, is that the ice cream had bits of pudding at the bottom, so it was a bit overwhelming. The onions on top had a bitter taste, which I'm not a fan of, and the bone marrow just tasted like fat--it didn't add any additional flavor to the steak. Me, a non red meat eater reviewing the seafood at a steakhouse feels like missing the point entirely, but my carnivore friends sung the praises of Hawksmoor's cocktails and fish, plus I had out-of-town visitors who needed were craving a steakhouse experience, so here we are. The dining room alone made the experience feel special, with plush seating, dark wood paneling, and ornate light fixtures. Their oyster selection was extensive, and we loved the Vietnamese-styled ones topped with shallots, ginger, and soy. Also loved the scotch bonnet mignonette ones, which were not as spicy as the name suggests. The charcoal roasted scallops were a hit, while their oak baked beet salad helped us refresh our palates for the mains. My east coast swordfish was cooked to perfection. I watched my friends' 3 and 4-year-old daughters demolish their ribeye - these kids understood good steak better than most adults. The service matched the fine dining promises, attentive without being hovering, and those cocktails lived up to my friends hype. We stopped in for a late lunch on a Wednesday, and the restaurant was practically empty. They do close from 3-5 PM to prepare for dinner service. Despite the quiet afternoon, we had a great meal. Our server, Ornela, was wonderful--efficient, friendly, and truly went above and beyond. She was warm and funny, which made the experience even more enjoyable. We ordered the two-course prix fixe lunch. One of us chose the Hawksmoor Caesar salad and the notorious BEEF burger. Unfortunately, the Caesar salad was a bit underwhelming, and while the burger itself was well made and cooked properly, it was noticeably over-seasoned. Another order included the potted beef & bacon Yorkshires with onion gravy, followed by steak frites. The Yorkshires were delicious, and the steak was cooked to a perfect medium-rare. The fries were excellent as well. I ordered the ash-baked beets along with steak frites. The beets were very tasty, and the combination with the fennel and horseradish worked well, though it somehow didn't quite feel like a home run. My steak, however, was cooked to a perfect rare, seasoned beautifully, and again the fries were great. We were also pleasantly surprised when they brought out a complimentary meringue and watermelon granita for dessert, which was light and refreshing. Overall, while a few dishes had their ups and downs, the steaks were cooked and seasoned perfectly, great company, and Ornela's wonderful personality truly elevated the entire experience. My first visit to this restaurant was on a Monday for a birthday dinner for a friend. The hosts were very welcoming. Upon entry they had me sit in the bar area until all my guests arrived. Ordered a cocktail and felt very relaxed. The atmosphere was a fantastic after work vibe. All the servers were warm and friendly. Once we were seated at the dinner table we were so engaged in conversation we didn't look at the menus and was not prepared when Vince asked us what we would like. BUT his drink recommendation was spot on. So much so that when 2 of us got a 2nd cocktail, we had to have what we called the "Vince Reco". LOL. JUST a Moscow mule with tequila and ginger beer. The mix was just perfect. All of our drinks were very good. Lemon drop with Tequila instead of vodka and a vodka martini. The appetizers were OMG so delicious. That pork belly was everything. The scallops were so flavorful and tender. The birthday girl got a free app of fried shrimp. The tartar sauce was a taste of perfection. I even asked if I could buy a bottle of it. We all got rib-eye cooked 3 different ways. All very good. But we were full after the appetizers. The service at this restaurant can be best described as family. This is how they made us feel for our dinner. We were treated like family. Vince took a minute to warm up but in the end we were all laughing it up and treated us with care and great customer service. Even the guests at the table next to us were super friendly. Highly recommend Hawksmoor if you're looking for a standout steakhouse in Manhattan. We had an amazing dinner and arrived early, which gave us time to sit at the bar and enjoy a cocktail before heading to our table. We started with the bone marrow and the Caesar salad, both are must orders to kick off the meal. For our main, we shared the porterhouse, which was cooked perfectly and was easily one of the best steaks I've had in the city. On the side, we had mac & cheese, creamed spinach, and mushrooms Diane. Everything we ate was absolutely delicious. Beautiful ambiance, with excellent service, and some strong cocktails. This is definitely a special occasion restaurant at a higher price point, and I would definitely return. read more

Went here for a birthday celebration and it was a bit pricy but definitely worth it. The restaurant is beautiful with grand ceilings and wooden accents. As soon as you walk in the staff is very friendly and even helped us find a space by the bar since we were early. Order some appetizers for the group, the Louisiana shrimp, were tasty and a good size. The Vietnamese oysters a must, they were incredible and we had to order a second round. Also ordered the bone marrow which was pretty good. Got a powerhouse for the table which they sell by the ounce. Also got the mashed potato and Caesar salad as sides which were delicious but kinda small. Steak was cooked perfectly. They do a Sunday roast dinner special that will try to go back for. read more

I want to be very clear: I did everything in my power not to write this review. I wanted to like this restaurant. Before posting, I emailed the management and followed up three separate times to give them a chance to respond, acknowledge what happened, or make it right. Silence. So here we are. We chose this restaurant to celebrate New Year's Eve with my fiancee and friends because it has a reputation for great food and hospitality. The food showed up. The hospitality clocked out early and never came back. The night began with the ancient art of trying to flag down a server. Eventually, a kind, knowledgeable staff member helped us with drinks and menu guidance, despite making it clear he wasn't assigned to our table. He was warm, thoughtful, and attentive. Naturally, this meant he would be the only pleasant human interaction of the evening. When our actual server arrived, the vibe shifted immediately from "welcome" to "why are you here." No eye contact. No warmth. Just the subtle irritation of someone being forced to acknowledge other people exist. When we asked if we could also place our food order because we were already waiting and very hungry, she responded with visible annoyance and told us it would be better to "just put the drinks in first." We insisted. Big mistake, apparently. About 45 minutes later, two salads arrived. For context, this was a beet salad and a Caesar, not a slow-roasted boar. Unfortunately, the Caesar came with an unexpected garnish: a hair. The salad was replaced, which is the absolute minimum response to serving someone else's DNA, but that replacement also marked the end of any remaining goodwill. From that point on, the service became colder, shorter, and more dismissive, like we had personally offended the restaurant by noticing the hair. No check-ins. No apology beyond the silent swap. No attempt to recover the table. Just a lingering sense that we should stop existing. The meal lasted nearly two hours. The food itself was good, which honestly made the whole thing more frustrating. Not once did a manager stop by. Not once was the experience acknowledged. We simply paid, left, and collectively agreed that something had gone very wrong. Again, I want to stress: I'm not writing this for compensation. I'm writing this because if you're going to charge premium prices and trade on a reputation for hospitality, you need to actually offer hospitality. Replacing a contaminated salad and pretending nothing else happened isn't it. I'll probably be back someday, because the filet and beef fat fries are annoyingly good. But this New Year's Eve experience was a masterclass in how to make loyal customers feel like an inconvenience. You had three emails to respond before this went public. You chose silence. read more
