My boyfriend and I split an ube pancake and eggs benedict. Ube pancake was good but a little light on the ube flavor. Eggs benedict was perfectly cooked -- English muffin was still toasted, good slice of Canadian bacon, poached egg with a still-runny yolk, and the hollandaise had a nice acidity to it. By 11am, they had run out of the prime rib, so the loco moco was substituted with ribeye. The loco moco sauce was great and the dish held its own compared to other restaurants. The size and quality of the food is good and a nice mix of filipino, american, and local classics like loco moco and garlic shrimp done right! I got the mauka makai moco which is hamburger topped with crab cake that was interesting, not as much crab as I would've hoped so I was disappointed that it wasn't even as thick as the egg. Have ordered twice from Guieb Cafe in Kalihi and can say they are consistently good. We have gotten variations of the loco moco and it's delicious. The eggs benedict was good but the egg was a little bit overcooked, so I wouldn't say this is my favorite place for eggs benny. The ube pancakes are good as well. The country fried steak had lots of flavor and was done very well. I know I will usually have leftovers so I like extra gravy for when it's warmed up again to ensure it isn't dry. The only gripe I have is that they charged $3 for the smallest side of extra gravy. It came in the ketchup sized containers, definitely not even close to $3 worth of gravy, more like 50 cents. If I had known that I would have never agreed to that. Extra guac at Chipotle isn't even $3. Almost but not quite and those are huge scoops. Haha. read more

This time, I ordered the Aria (2 chicken mango sausage, 2 thin cut bacon, eggs, and Ube Mascarpone French toast) - the eggs and meats were meh. I really just went for the French toast. Pros- great food, I love that breakfast is all day (love the ube pancakes and eggs benedict!), really friendly service, cozy atmosphere. Free parking, but the lot can get tight during peak meal hours. Cons- It's a tiny space for the amount of people that want to eat there! Going with a large group is a challenge, but you can try and call in to reserve a table ahead of time. Two and a half stars for me. The place is small but big enough for a few patrons to be eating at one time. There is ample parking so that shouldn't be an issue. Staff is nice and friendly and they have a ton on the menu and for keiki 10 and under too. We decided to meet for a quick breakfast and was grateful not to cook! I ordered the garlic chicken with rice and crab salad. Others ordered chicken and waffles, loco moco and crab cakes benedict. We didn't have a long wait before our plates came out. The portions are large and I think I could have split my plate with someone. The best part of my plate was the chicken skin. It was fried to a crisp. The flavor of garlic was lacking (but I'm used to a ton of garlic so it can be my palate) and I'm also not a fan of too sweet. My husband ordered the traditional eggs benedict eith hashbrown and I ordered the Philly Cheeseteak omelet. Its not yiur traditional Philly Cheesesteak since it was made with ground beef. Taste was good. Hubby says eggs benedict was okay, holandaise sauce was kind of off. Said it was missing a bit of acidity. Hashbrown on my plate was drenched in oil. It is a small area inside I have a special needs kid and it sucks that we won't be able to comfortably sit inside to dine in as a family. An overdue review of this restaurant. I had this place bookmarked for a while and have been wanting to come here to try their ube pancakes and oxtail soup. This place is a small restaurant located in a random plaza away from the touristy stuff, which I liked. The things we ordered from here included: adobo fried rice omelette, fried chicken, oxtail soup, and the ube pancakes. I absolutely loved the ube pancakes, the fried chicken, and the omelette. Everytime I go to Hawaii, I find myself looking for oxtail soup. The oxtail soup was good, but could've gone away with less boillon in my opinion. Came here for an early breakfast to start our day and it did not disappoint! I came with a group of 6, including me and we all had the idea to share a few dishes and do family style rather than everyone get their own individual dish. We started off with the Ube pancakes that had a beautiful presentation. It had a nice fluff, subtle sweetness, even without the syrup topped with some sort of whipped delicacy. The next entree we shared was the prime rib loco moco, and this was definitely shareable! When in Hawaii, you must try loco moco, and this spot was great for it. Presentation also beautiful, big prime rib, medium rare, over a bead of fried rice, topped with over easy eggs *chef's kiss.* Then, we tried their fried chicken, it had a nice crisp to it, nice light flavor, sitting on top of their mochi like waffles. This was definitely a different kind of chicken and waffles they offered. Finally, we also tried the oxtail soup. We've had our fair share of trying different kinds based on where we travel and where it is offered. This one wasn't horrible, but I would've been ok without ordering it from here. First off I'd suggest getting your name on their waiting list as there's like about 10 tables or so. If your a big party, go early. I've heard alot about this place and probably because it's one of the few "newer" restaurants with some Filipino influenced foods. As a foodie and someone that loves to cook authentic Filipino food, my friend invited me for breakfast here. It was my first time, I arrived around 9:15 and got my name on the list around 9:25 since I didn't know what to do but wait in my car for my friend, then she texts me to get our name on the list. No wonder, this place is small and packed, but doesn't take much to get it packed. lol! They said they'd call me when a table is ready which was about 10-15 mins later. As I walk there from my car I see probably 4 other families also waiting for their call. As I walk in, I noticed it's just a typical hole in the wall place, not much decorative things, just simple and your usual small restaurant. It was busy, so we got seated and with not much time to review the menu, we ordered ASAP. Wait staff was the usual, hi may I take your order kind of deal. Got our food pretty quick. My friend ordered Lechon Kawali with Adobo Fried Rice and Chicken + waffles, I got the Loco Moco over Fried Rice. Food Presentation was beautifully plated, the orchid flower took it another notch. So pretty. My Loco Moco was with over easy egg, done perfect as the egg was runny just how I like it. Came over fried rice which my fried rice had peas and carrots. Would have loved it with some Mac salad but doesn't come with that. Anyway, the burger was thick and juicy. Taste overall, I'd probably give it a 7. The patty was a good size, but the taste was lacking salt or something. The fried rice portion was huge compared to the meat. For me fried rice should be fried and you should be able to tell. This fried rice was probably slapped together on a fry pan or flat griddle, heated then put on the plate. I'd love if they fried it a little longer. I don't know about you but I like my fried rice browned from the frying not just brown from the soy. Would I recommend it, maybe, but would I order it again? Hmmm probably not. Not for what I paid for it. My friend had the Chicken & Waffles + Lechon Kawali with Adobo fried rice. The chicken was perfect. Crispy and sweet probably from a honey glaze. The waffle was your typical waffle. Nothing extra. I think the Chicken is what made this plate very good. I'd give this a 8/10. As for the Lechon Kawali with adobo fried rice omelette, the Lechon pieces were small, like bite size small, almost looked like a pork belly sliced and fried. I expected thicker and more meaty pieces with a nice thick skin, but it was smaller but was still good. The adobong fried rice omelette was pretty. The egg was made just right, covering the adobo fried rice. The adobo fried rice tasted good. Was on point. I think only thing I'd probably suggest is that the fried rice be "fried". Almost looked like the adobo fried rice came out of the rice cooker or big pot rather than fried. Overall, I'd give this dish an 8/10. We were there eating for about an hour. It's a weekend, who doesn't like to enjoy their breakfast and just chill and talk story for a little bit. Well, THIS IS NOT THE PLACE TO DO THAT! During our eating, we were refilled waters, asked how things were a few times then asked if we were done which I wasn't yet. When I was done, a few minutes after we were asked to leave because "they have a wait list", this was a TURN OFF. I get it it's busy, but NEVER ever have I been asked to leave even places that are totally busy. Almost felt like they just trying to turn tables rather than appreciate your business and time. Maybe I missed the sign that said after you eat leave or maybe it's limited time seating I missed???? Gahhh, whatever it is, I didn't appreciate being asked to leave. Like you just took my plate away, can you give me a few mins to digest my food before I leave? I did see the wait, and I am mindful of others. We were going to leave after I finish my coffee. Which I rushed to drink it and left. Would I come back, probably not to eat inside. Maybe take out, but will see. I like to support local but where's the Aloha? And the look on the waitress face when she told us she had a wait list, I was just in shock. If you want somewhere to chill and enjoy a meal with friends to talk story, this isn't the place. My last experience here a few years ago was a handsdown 5 star! This time I returned with a friend and was half impressed, half disappointed. The ube pancakes were what I had come back to show my friend, but they were unfortunately extremely dry (not what I'd remembered them being), and had a mascarpone ube topping that was not enough to get on all of the pancakes. We had to supplement with syrup which was not ideal - but even with syrup, it was still so dry I was kind of choking it down to eat it. The next bad point was the fried rice of the loco moco (with crab cake) - the rice was undercooked and hard - the kind that sticks to your teeth when you chew. This dish was the one my friend ordered and it came about 20 min after my dish came, along with the pancakes - so I was almost finished with my plate by the time hers came out (we shared the pancakes so she didnt mind too much, but her entree should have arrived same time as mine). My country fried steak was super oily but tasty. Hashbrown needed salt. Eggs were not quite over medium (were still over easy). Overall we were happy with the flavors, although they were missing ketchup and the necessary pepper/salt on our table (maybe SP was missing on all tables) - i had to request it. I saw an Instagram posting recommending this restaurant and Guieb Cafe immediately went to my list of places to eat in Hawaii. My wife and I were both delighted and disappointed. The service and the food was amazing!!! Disappointed because I didn't heed the recommendation to go early...they were out of the PRIME RIB!!! A reason to go back!!! There were no fancy tables, decorations or entryway, just simple and homey!!! Only decoration was the orchid with the meal. Easy menu. I tried the Pulehu short rib which was tender and well seasoned. My wife tried the corned beef hash and eggs. You can tell right away way if the chef knows how to cook by the way the island style corned beef hash is prepared and my wife is an expert. You know this place is legit because (a) this small, local restaurant almost pseudo-requires reservations because of how busy it is and (b) the locals love this place. It's not stock full of tourists. Here's what we ordered: * Ube pancake: This is the best Ube pancake I've had. Don't get me wrong: Ube is delicious, and pancakes are delicious, but the union of the two isn't always perfect. The Ube pancakes I've had before were too sweet or weren't fluffy enough. However, Gueib's Ube pancakes got it all right. The Ube cream on top is the perfect amount of sweet, and the thick stack of pancakes makes this dish more filling than you'd expect. I can't wait to come back just for this dish. * Steak loco moco and fried chicken with waffles: Both of these dishes had a similar downfall for me -- namely, the meats were very dry. In general, Oahu's meats are dry and saltier, and this was true here as well. I think the locals do have a saltier preference, so this may just be me. With that said, the waffles were delicious -- much fluffier than I expected. Not the really thin Hilton-breakfast-style waffles you might run into. Overall, strong recommend. The chicken and waffles here were HEAVENLY. Absolutely recommend coming here -- this was the best chicken and waffles i've had in my life. I am definitely a team boneless when it comes to all things chicken, however, this completely raised my standards. Can you even call this bone in?? The meat to bone ratio was like 99% meat to 1% bone ... INCREDIBLE!! The chicken was so extremely tender and juicy, cutting like butter and falling apart as I eat. The waffle was the perfect diner style taste, perfectly sweet and just the right amount of crispy. Drizzling that sweet maple syrup was the perfect touch this dish needed to make it jump from already amazing to making me reach divine enlightenment. At first I was so intimidated by the portion size (suffering from success, I know) but nothing could stop me from absolutely devouring this meal in its entirety. The only complaints I have would be that it made my belly way too big in all the beach pics I took after!!! Haha!! We got seated and I ordered filipino food lol it was longanisa with garlic fried rice and scrambled eggs I think it was called longa-something... my bf ordered corn beef hash with white rice , sunny side up eggs and side of Portuguese sausage. We also got the fruity pebbles French toast to share and everything was BOMBBBB DOT COM! Honestly what sold us to come here was the fruity people French toast... it was AMAZING! We tried the Guieb in Aiea last month and enjoyed the food so decided to order food from here. We actually came to try Sakana Grill that's located next door but they didn't open till 4pm...it was only 2:30pm. Their Prime Rib was sold out by 10:30am so I ordered the Pork Adobo fried rice and my husband ordered the Loco Moco fried rice. I thought mine was just okay...adobo didn't have too much taste. Don't think I'd order this again. My husband thought his Loco Moco was salty. I try not to cook with too much salt so we're both not used to salty foods. Told him to maybe stay away from food with gravy although he couldn't tell if it was from the meat, gravy or both. I also ordered 2 "GC's Island Mix" for our dinner since we enjoyed it from their Aiea restaurant that includes Grilled Mahi with tarter sauce, Fried Chicken, Spam and Teriyaki Ribeye similar to Zippy's Zip Pac BUT the "GC's Island Mix" had better tarter sauce, the type of fish and meat AND you have a choice of white rice, mash potatoes or brown rice. You also have a choice of imitation crab salad, sautéed veggies or toss salad...Zip Pac doesn't come with salad. We both enjoyed it and combined, we had enough leftovers for tomorrow's dinner. The workers here were also nice like their Aiea location and lots of parking but shared with other businesses...still easy to find empty stalls.
