The vibe is engaging, the staff are friendly, and the coffee, tea, and food are excellent. It would be nice if they had more wall plugs but then again, not having so many does encourage people to hang out as long as needed but move on when the battery goes flat... The four wall mounted high tables behind the stairs sag quite a bit when you lean on them...any chance they could be better supported? ...and plugs installed under them? ...plus a coat hook? Guilder makes me wish I lived in inner NE just so I could come here more often and give them all my coffee money! I LOVE the upstairs loft for working because it's much less distracting every time a customer comes in and out. Wifi connection is great, and it's nice to have a bathroom upstairs so I don't have to worry about walking away too far from my belongings. Wish there were more outlets - just make sure you grab a seat at the edge of the room if your electronics are prone to dying. Their tea also comes in a very generous size - one order could have been plenty for two. Street parking is also easy peasy here - always a plus! read more

This place is tooooo adorable! It seemed a bit intimidating at first but the baristas put you at ease. There's quite of mix of people that come here. I ordered a Chai Latte with Soy which was pretty decent, but was a bit pricey for the quantity. I came by to do homework here and stayed for a solid 45 minutes before my laptop died. Unfortunately there weren't lot of places to plug in my charger so I left. I liked that they serve Shoofly Baked goods which are completely Vegan! I love this place! I'm usually there at least once a week to get some work done. I've had their chai (very tasty!) and a few of their sandwich/lunch options. Tasty all around. The shop is a beautiful place to work, the WiFi is fast and reliable, and the music playing is good but not distracting. All of the employees I've interacted with have been lovely too. I've been in a few times and have thoroughly enjoyed every experience. It's clear a lot of thought goes into every part of Guilder: from the decor to the delicious food made in-house, to the selection of tasty and fresh local pastries, to the coffee itself. The coffee! My new favorite place for tea, coffee, breakfast, lunch, a sweet snack fresh from Fleur de Lis bakery or happy hour. Friendly and a great vibe! The breakfast and savory toasts are sheer perfection, familiar and unique at the same time, and good any time of day, same goes for the porridge with homemade jam floating on top, and the happy hour snacks are excellent and not fried or greasy. I'm procrastinating with work but hey wow thank God for this place. Our hood is a bit of a desert when it comes to that third wave of coffee and one of the most important things about third-wave coffee is being able to walk there. Loved my Americano even if the roast isn't exactly my taste (but I count that as a plus because: diversity and, if you knew me, you wouldn't want me being the taste arbiter of the world). The wife's cappo was also great. And the Fleur de Lis pastries are a nice touch (keep it in the neighborhood!). I'll be back lots but I have a few notes: Using that front space as lab/retail area is really a bummer. Prime table area and when you walk by and look in the window instead of a cheery cafe all you see is BOXES. There's all that space at the back where no one really wants to sit but might spend time perusing... Also: Outside! Need more outside seats! Maybe in the back? Maybe ask Mr. Landlord if you can filch a parking spot for a temporary picnic table? I say this all with love! So glad y'all are here. Guilder is leaning into being a friendly neighborhood coffee shop. Kind people, modern but not sterile interior with a subtle Princess Bride theme. The menu is a mix of pastries and light salad-y options including, yes, the notorious avocado toast. The coffee's lovely; the cocktails are interesting. (Beet bloody mary, mmmm.) Guilder hosted my wedding rehearsal dinner (food brought in from elsewhere) recently in its pretty upstairs room for the price of the drinks, and it was a perfect space for a 20-ish person informal party. The owners couldn't have been kinder or more attentive, and our out-of-towners got to see real Portland hospitality in action, down to cheerful recounting of the pedigrees of the drinking vinegars, with not even a touch of hipster attitude. This is the coffee shop I go to if I'm also hungry or know I'll soon be hungry. It is my favorite coffee shop food in town, and sometimes I come just for the food alone. It's super filling/not boring/delicious, lots of veg/vegan options. My recent favorite is the savory white bean toast with avocado and their house hot sauce added :) I don't drink coffee often so I can't speak to that aspect but I do like their Chai a lot- good spicy/sweet balance. It isn't exactly a cozy kind of coffee shop, better for getting work done or enjoying a quick pick me up. They serve beer and wine which is also a nice perk! read more

I can't be happier to have Guilder open in my neighborhood. We've needed a non chain establishment in Alameda. Coffee is awesome easily a contender for top five roasters in Portland and they keep expanding the menu with tasty light entrees and snacks. The owners and staff are friendly and make this a pleasant place to hang out or just stop in. What a neighborhood gem. Guilder has it all - great food/drinks, a SUPER friendly staff, and a gorgeous environment. It's work-friendly (free wifi), kid-friendly (can fit a stroller in line and not feel like a jerk)... they even have a sweet little outdoor patio in the front to enjoy the sun or sit with your pup. It's rare for a coffee shop to accommodate all those things in the same space, but they do it so well. Baby changing table in the spacious bathrooms. Lots of seating, bright and airy. Their food is quality - it's nourishing, unique, healthy, and delicious. Can't say enough about this incredible community gathering place.
