Ready for a semi-weird review? My friend and I dropped by and were excited about the live music on a weekday - what a treat! We got a round of discount drinks for happy hour, super yummy. We also got some food, which was also really yummy and the portions were generous. Unfortunately, I found a hair in my burger, about halfway through the burger. Honestly, these things happen, mistakes happen. But! Our server handled the issue like a pro, using humor and sincerity to make it right (in the end, he went above and beyond!)! Made a reservation through open table for Father's Day and brought the whole family. Before arrival I received no less than 4 notifications that our reservation was for 2 hours as they were going to be busy, which I respect. Upon arrival we were seen to our table by an arrogant host who informed us again and finished with "if you're close to your 2 hours I will come and inform you". While at the table it took 20 minutes for a staff member to even acknowledge our existence. I really wanted to ask whether the wait counted towards our time at the table. The server was very nice. We order drinks and appetizers which weee good. Another round of drinks and our main course. Upon arrival by the food runner he forgot one of our parties meals. No "I will be right back with the rest" or anything. We had to flag down a manager who obviously threw the plate together to get it out to our table. Server never asked how anything was as he was busy. Food was good not great. Don't know if I will be coming back. As one who has been to Guinness in Dublin I doubt this is representative of their traditional history. Shame on Guiness. I visited from California, so to get here, I hopped a bus from downtown and walked a couple blocks. Easy location to get to. This place is so cool! Whoever designed this location did an incredible job because the layout makes it easy to see everything it has to offer. You'll walk into the merch area, bakery, then the restaurant/bar. The staff is really friendly and knowledgeable. If you have a question, they'll be more than happy to answer and if they can't, they'll find someone who can answer you. I had a few tasters and pints of a good handful of beers and non were a disappointment. I think there's something for everyone. I got a shrimp po boy which the shrimp was ridiculously salty, but if you ate it with the bread and toppings, it really mellowed out to make it a fantastic sandwich. Something kind of cool while I was there was the beer menu changed mid-meal. This location is consistently working on something new, so that was a fun experience. If you like the classic Guinness, come on it to at least check the place out! read more

We drove here from the suburbs and it was a Sunday afternoon. There wasn't a lot of parking so that was one of the tricky things about that area. we ordered a few of their beers that were only brewed at the brewery. They were pretty decent and we also ordered entrées as well. The food was also decent but nothing that blew us our minds. Service was fine because there wasn't a lot of people there that early and the concept is really cool. We also have a patio outside, but it was raining so we couldn't sit out there. We would give it another go to see if anything changed or if they had new menu items but remember when driving there it's really hard to find a parking spot so if you live in the city, it's probably best to take public transportation or an Uber. read more

I had a great experience here! We came for a late lunch on a Sunday. The day was beautiful and we were able to sit outside. This building is absolutely gorgeous-- the landscaping, architecture, and even the bathroom! A little drop of Ireland a few blocks off the green line Morgan stop. Just a block off the hub of the Fulton Market area and across the street from Recess. For some unexplained reason we got a stamp in our hand upon entering. Thinking there would be some purpose for that at some future point, but just plain odd. The beverages are on par, some brewed right in Chicago. The food options have a little bit for everyone, a snazzier bar menu. We were there at the end of a Bears game, the brewery was not full but plenty of people and did not feel crowded. It was loud if you wear hearing aids sit against the wall, there is an echo. I recently visited Guinness Open Gate Brewery with family and friends to try their stout beers. It was very easy to check-in on a Friday night! We tried a couple of 8 oz and 16 oz beers, namely the following - patio beer, spicy lemongrass smash, Guinness draught stout, Elani IPA, Grapefruit Kinzie and Pineapple Coconut stout. I am not a huge fan of beers but occasionally enjoy stouts and hence Guinness was perfect option to visit on a summer evening! Spicy Lemongrass smash was our favorite! The spicy aftertaste was just so good! Our server was very knowledgeable and gave us good options to choose from the menu! We also tried truffle fries, cheese curds and chickpea coconut curry. Beautiful space, not beautiful service. Pros: Restaurant was about 1/3 full, seating was immediate. Our appetizer came out very quickly and was hot and delicious. Cons: our service ended after the app was dropped off; she never came back to take our dinner order. We could see her chatting at the bar with other staff members, but she did not come over to check on us at all. After about 25 minutes we were finally able to flag her down. Not sure why the hate on this place, of course it's not the same as Guinness in Dublin or even as grand as the one in Baltimore but for what it is, it's great! Food is a tad bit over priced in my opinion but delicious nonetheless. The beer is the star of the show of course with some Guinness classics brewed in Dublin and then the other half of the menu brewed on location. Rotating tap list so always something new! I've been here twice now both on Sundays around lunch time and neither time was overly packed. We had no problem being seated without a reservation. During peak times I could see needing one though! Stopped by on a Wednesday summer evening. It wasn't full and there was plenty of room on the patio. The building is pretty cool. The vinyl seating on the booths mimics a pint of Guinness which was a cool little detail. Our server was great, offering ideas of what pairs well with food and bringing us a sample of a beer we didn't order just because he wanted us to try it with an app we were having that he said it was perfect with. Drink menu is great. There's a nice variety of beers and beer cocktails that are unique to this location. This place would have been great if the food had been better. We didn't care for the food at all. We got the crab and corn dip with fried saltines. It wasn't very good. We also order the Crispy & Spicy Brussels which were neither crispy or spicy. They were pretty gross. Only ate a couple. We got truffle parm fries which were good. My husband ordered the beef stew which was just fine. We would have expected a beef stew at Guinness to be a Guinness beef stew, but it wasn't. Just an ordinary beef stew. We're from a small town in Indiana, and the local Irish restaurant we have has WAY better food. I would expect way more of this menu considering it's Guinness. read more

Came here on a summer Saturday afternoon and I made reservations just in case. However, upon getting there realizing it really wasn't full or busy. The patio though was totally full parking around here as you know is absolutely ridiculous. We actually parked half a mile away had to pay for the parking and then had to walk in the heat to get here. Sitting indoors is a lot cooler than being outdoors however they open all the windows and all the doors and it's basically an open airspace so be prepared for the humidity and the heat. Upon arrival they will walk in and you have to go through the bakery and their shop and get enticed to buy something before you can even get to the host stand. Then when you get there, you come across the huge bar area, which is really great to see and the patio and all of the TVs as well as the private room, which is tucked in the back Our server was super friendly, really helpful and service was quick and food came out even faster. And when the food came out, it was very hot so that was great. This is another place in the city of Chicago and Chicago area. Where if you want bread and butter, you have to pay for it. Of course we got beer for lunch, which was fantastic. I definitely recommend this as a stab, especially if you have a visitor in town. It is on the pricier, and however, the portions were fair. Truly an uninspired tourist trap without any history to boot ; we live in the suburbs of Chicago and would never return here. They stamp your hand upon entry to identify that you're over 21, which makes no sense, seeing that nearly everyone is over 21... Why not stamp those UNDER 21? Way more logical. So, the main bar room (with the massive wooden harp) is preferred over their dreary smaller room; there's a lot of people and decent music, but the giant TV screens just show the static menu (um, QR code, anyone?) and it feels so... boring! Local bars around Chicago are way more pleasant for a Guinness, but this is a branding/marketing hangout at best. HINT: Raglan Road at Disney Springs is *amazing* compared to this sad, sad example of an Irish icon's business decision. The drinks are average and that was disappointing, but the food looks great and my oysters were wonderfully fresh (a surprise, for sure). Naturally, the Irish brown bread was comforting and tasty too. Service is spotty also; it was great before getting the food, but then the staff disappeared for a little bit and it was difficult to leave, lol... A 2.5 level experience, saved from a 2 by a few positive things listed below. On a snowy day, we came to Open Gate for lunch. I expected a lot from Guiness, thinking we'd get an amazing Irish experience. However, those in Ireland should consider retraining the servers at this location. Starting with the good things. The design of the place was nice- booths looked like Guiness beers with black seats and cream trim and the harp hanging over the bar was large and impressive. We had kids with us and ordered sauces on the side and their food came out as ordered and they were happy, which always helps with a good experience. The bathrooms were very clean. And now for the less good--- Service was subpar. Our server was nice but lacked any enthusiasm and offered no knowledge of menu or guidance on beers. The pretzel on the game day menu was good but small- like something you could get out of the freezer section at the grocery store. The beer cheese was a saving grace- spicy and tasty. Our loaded fries came out cold. When we sent the fries back the server said oh I'll have them 'refire' them. The second round did come out flaming hot which was appreciated. The inattentiveness, however, was wearing. No dishes were cleared from the table, even after boxes were brought for leftovers or after we paid our check. Menus stayed with us for the entire meal. I'm glad we tried it but we won't be back. There are too many excellent places worth our meals out in Fulton Market and the rest of the city. read more
