    Veal picotta (piccata?)
    Michelle F.

This is one of those places where the locals are forced to go because it's the only place in town and they pretend it's good because they have to see the owner at the grocery store. The first impression was... odd. The interior is just a large rectangular room with oddly spaced tables. All the tables are covered in a sticky faux leather table cloth and there was some gaudy wall decor that you would see in the discount section at HomeGoods. Onto the service. We were greeted quickly and told we could sit where we like. The staff were very friendly and seemed very busy clearing tables. We only saw our waitress three times during the hour and a half we were there. I'm not sure what an average Saturday night looks like for them but if I see empty tables and no one waiting to be seated, I would not call that busy. We ordered the garlic bread for an appetizer and immediately put in our food orders. It took 30 minutes for the bread to come out and an hour for the food, including a salad with no fresh components to be found. It even took forever for the bill to come and when it did, my husband was informed that it was cash only and he could use the ATM. Now for the food. We got the garlic bread for the table. It was okay, I feel like it's pretty difficult to ruin bread. The marinara was good but very chunky so when you tried to dip, you would just soak up tomato juice and leave the chunks in the bowl. I got the chicken picotta. Slightly confusing because I've only heard of chicken piccata, which is a lemony sauce with capers. What I got was more akin to chicken Marsala, which is extra confusing because there was also chicken Marsala on the menu. Whatever it was supposed to be, it was very bland and the chicken was pale and sad. It was served on a ridiculous amount of spaghetti. My sister got the chicken Caesar salad. Her first reaction was that, and I quote, "the chicken tastes like fart". I wish I was joking. I think what she's describing is old cooked chicken that has been sitting in a fridge for days, waiting for its chance to finally shine on a mediocre caesar salad. My husband got the Alfredo. He said it was pretty good and he enjoyed it. Next time I'm making him order my food because he seems to know what he's doing. Overall I was unimpressed by the place but given that they're one of the only restaurants in the area, I'll give them a star for at least feeding me something edible in my time of need. Next time I'm passing through, I'll pack a dinner instead.

    Penne Ala Vodka with Chicken

We have eaten here many times over the years, just getting around to a review. Tonight's meal was very good, we sat in the bar. I had penne ala vodka with grilled chicken, delish!! All 4 dinners were top notch, huge portions and tasty. Service was very good the there pricing is easy on the pocket. We recommend!!

View from our bar table, tasty beverages!

Came here after a recommendation from a friend about high quality eats, large portions and good prices. And man were they right!! There was a party going on in the main dining area, so we had to eat in the bar area which had small bar tables and a room off to the side with additional dining tables. The place was fairly busy and the sounds of levity and good times were in the air. Even though the service was affected because it was in the bar area, the bartender and the wait staff were still attentive to us. There is a regular dining menu and a completely separate bar menu for food, we were able to look at both and ordered one order of sauceless naked wings, which we split, with a little container each of garlic parm sauce, hot buffalo sauce and blue cheese on the side. The wings were juicy and flavorful and the sauces were really tasty to dip into. We would definitely order the wings again. We had a few leftover wings which were also still very tasty the next day. We ordered for our entrées lasagna and veal Parmesan. The entrées came with a choice of soup or salad. My girlfriend got the soup which was Italian sausage and I got a salad with Italian dressing. She really enjoyed the soup and mentioned it had some spicy heat to it. My veal Parmesan was tasty and tender with a really good Parmesan coating, it was a nice big cutlet. The veal Parmesan also came with a side of pasta. My girlfriend mentioned that the lasagna was tasty though it was not quite hot enough, it should have been heated further. We ordered some beers, they had a pretty good size draft list as well as a huge bottle list. She got a Guinness I got a couple of fiddleheads. We were so stuffed and had leftovers but our friend mentioned about great desserts as well and the bartender said that the desserts are all homemade so we just had to take home a hunk of carrot cake. What a decadent and delicious huge slice of cake! The cake itself was so moist and tasty with an amazing icing, awesome with morning coffee. Sorry we forgot to get a picture of that. The bartender was very friendly and accommodating, everybody there was really nice. We will definitely be back, this is an example of a successful business that is not price gouging the public and I'm sure this has created lots of repeat business. Their really tasty eats and huge portions I am sure also help.

We had 3, $25 strip steak special dinners and all were tender, flavorful and perfectly cooked. A Reuben sandwich had real homemade corned beef on it, kids meals were tasty and exactly as described. Vegetable cookery was fantastic, homemade dressings and plentiful portions. We will definitely be back, and we hope the chef and Tina will still be there! After I placed the order I thanked her and she rudely responded "excuse me!! Let's start with your name! Our policy has changed and you need to pay now!" Ok...so I gave her my card over the phone. When we got there to pick it up my friend went in to get it and the same woman said "you need to sign this slip" to which my friend said, it's not my card that was used. She responded "I don't care whose card it is you need to sign this!" My friend bit her tongue because there were customers enjoying their meals and she didn't want to make a scene by calling her out of her horrendous customer service. I have worked in hospitality my entire life and the rudeness and lack of training is appalling. To top it off she was apparently training a new employee. Hopefully the girl in the bandana knows enough to greet guests with kindness instead of learning from her coworker. Especially working in a place like Pangaea Café, that is known for having a relaxing atmosphere with warmth and kindness. With that said, the food was wonderful as always. I hope ownership retrains this young woman (my slip says her name is Maeve) before she pushes regular customers away. 5/5 stars on a regular day. 1/5 stars today.

Most of it was stringy, they offered only potatoes as a side, and "whatever the chef decides on a particular day." My husband's filet mignon was overcooked and dry, his potatoes lukewarm, and scallops overcooked. He told the waitress who offered to take the scallops - not the entire plate. The manager came over to apologize and asked my husband if he'd like to try anything else but he was too disappointed and lost his appetite. He explained that we were celebrating our anniversary but the woman didn't care to acknowledge it. After all that, the waitress returned and asked if we wanted to see the dessert menu without apologizing about our meal. Very unprofessional. We declined, paid the check, and left the bare minimum tip, which we never do. We don't blame the waitress for the food, but for her service technique and disinterest in her patrons' needs. Oh, they didn't charge us for my husband's meal but lacked the courtesy to tell us in person. Needless to say, despite the charming atmosphere, excellent salad bar, and incredible appetizers, we will not return. Maybe the chef had an off night, but what excuse did the staff have?

I decided to return a second time. The wings (Buffalo and garlic parmesan) were well-fried and flavorful. The risotto had too much balsamic vinegar on top, and the rice tasted a little sweet (think rice pudding). Both were turnoffs for me, and felt fortunate that it wasn't my order. The buffalo mac n' cheese was quite good, with a large portion that made it satisfying. Service was friendly and kind throughout and the decor was okay, though a little dark inside (even when they had electricity). This is a decent choice for food and it is on a main road.

Got seated right away in the "Lake Room" and got served right away. The Lake Room has a nice view over Saratoga Lake, and the ambiance was good for family dinner, except for a couple of loud tables that made it hard to hear everyone. I had a bourbon Manhattan that was perfect - not so dry that it tasted like a glass of bourbon and not so much vermouth as to make it too sweet - and really smoothed off the afternoon - then a glass of St Francis Cabernet to go with dinner. Appetizers were pan-fried mozzarella and the Shrimp Limoncello. The mozzarella was "Made with Our Fresh Homemade Mozzarella, and Breadcrumbs, Served over Marinara." Light, slight breading and fried just enough with a perfectly sweet complementary red sauce. The Shrimp Limoncello was "Three U-10 Shrimp Sauteed with Roasted Garlic, Roasted Heirloom Tomatoes and Limoncello, Served with Grilled Bread." Shrimp were cooked just right, not overcooked, as happens many times with shrimp, and the tomatoes and bread were complementary and tasty, but the limoncello was a little too much lemon, not enough cello. (a little more tart than we liked) 2 entrees were the pan seared salmon over risotto with a request to undercook the salmon somewhat, which they honored, and it made the salmon very moist and tasty. The Roasted Garlic and Basil risotto was excellent - rice not overcooked, perfect with a deep warm roasted garlic flavor. My Eggplant Parmesan was prepared the old fashioned way with thinly sliced eggplant properly drained and sweet with an ultra thin breading fried just right with a delicious marinara sauce and plenty of mozzarella, served over house-made spaghetti cooked al dente. Ample enough to have half for lunch the next day. Oh, and I had a side order of broccoli rabe - slightly bitter, as it should be, with ample garlic flavor cooked perfectly. Excellent. The fourth entree was Shrimp Aglio E Olio - "Sauteed shrimp, broccoli rabe, roasted tomatoes, in a garlic and olive oil sauce. Served over spaghetti." Once again, large fresh (not meaning not previously frozen, just clearly not old) meaty shrimp cooked perfectly - still moist with some crunch with a wonderful pungent garlic sauce over that perfectly al dente spaghetti. My daughter loved it. Also enough for lunch the next day. Desserts were homemade tiramisu and lemon ricotta cake with raspberry sauce and whipped cream. Tiramisu was classic and delicious. Lemon cake was a little dry but tangy and tasty, especially with the full-flavored raspberry sauce. We only get to Saratoga in the spring and fall for the rowing races, but this will be our go-to place for post-regatta dinner any time we're around. Very very good. Not cheap, but one doesn't mind when it's well worth the price.
