We had dinner here with some friends the other night. When you walk in, it feels like you've walked in to a speak easy restaurant/bar. The colors and motif of the restaurant are very calming. The food was absolutely delicious. My favorites included the chicken tikka, fish tandoori and chana masala. The service was wonderful. Our waiter (Dev) went above and beyond accommodating our large group. I will definitely be back. read more

We came out of our way to try their food and they didn't disappoint. We ordered a little too much but really enjoyed all the dishes. Our server Amar was also very attentive and took care of what we needed (we also did some takeout). I would highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a unique and authentic Indian food experience. read more

I will start off by saying the food here is very good... the restaurant is nicely decorated and this place has so much potential. BUT this is all overshadowed by terrible customer service. It really is like no one cares, even when it's not busy, or even to pick up take out. Service makes or breaks it... I'm out! read more

I came here at first i liked the food so much but service was so bad the server was talking on phone next to me.But the food was good so i decide to comeback today with my girlfriend and again the service disappointed me as i entered and they told me you can only sit at the bar i understand they were booked or whatever after i went to bar and nobody came to us for 5 minutes so we decided to leave. never gonna comeback there. read more

Really wanted to like this restaurant. Heard good things, close friend went and raved about the food. We were so excited that we saved going to Gulab for our anniversary. Well we went and sadly, it was not a great experience. Walked in to no host or hostess. Waited by the door ten minutes? Once we were seated we tried to order drinks. Wife asked what wine they had. Waitress pointed to menu... "Rose, Sauvignon Blanc, etc..." Wife asked what were they? Waitress pointed again and repeated. Ok. Doesn't understand wine. Fine. Not a huge deal but would be nice to know who made the wine. We ordered samosas, chilli paneer, chicken tikka, chicken vindaloo, rice, and garlic naan. Samosas came out covered in yogurt and peas and such. Was good but not what we thought we ordered, perhaps we misunderstood and that's fine. The chilli paneer was ok. Frankly the bell peppers and the chilli sauce was pretty good, paneer was just ok. But then it was time for the entree. Wife ordered the chicken tikka and that came out. By itself. No rice, no naan. Not my entree either. For about 15 minutes, she picked at her tikka sans rice or naan. I had a few bites but mostly just waited. The chicken had good flavor and a nice char. Would have been pretty good with rice we thought. By about the time I was going to just say forget it, the rest of the food came out. Rice looked beautiful, vindaloo smelled very good and the naan looked apetizing. I had asked for spicy vindaloo... well not only was it decidedly not spicy in any way, it seriously lacked seasoning. It was cooked well, and had faint hint of curry flavor, but it was nearly tasteless. I think a bit of salt and definitely heat would have helped. The rice was also without seasoning or any flavor either. Now usually that's ok because the sauce of your entree makes up for it and it doesn't matter. Well, it was noticeable that the rice didn't hold any flavor when the vindaloo had missed. Even the peas in the rice were blah. The naan... well it had the right texture, faint bit of char to give it crunch. But again, no flavor and definitely no garlic on it. First time we've ever not finished an order of naan. Really disappointing all around. And it's really too bad, we liked the decor and ambiance. And we LOVE Indian food, so this was really not how we wanted it to go. Frankly the worst part to me is how much I paid versus what we got out of the meal. That was an expensive, yet very disappointing, meal. For whatever reason when we paid up, the waitress gave us two 15% off discount cards. Not sure why, didn't say. Was it for the wait? Or is that just what they do? Ended up giving them to our friend that watched our kids, we won't be using them. read more

This place is amazing. The food is fresh and so delicious. We had the Butter Chicken, Chicken Curry, Dhaba Seekh Kabah, Gosh/Mutton Nawabi, with Jeera Rice, and this HITS HITS! The Garlic Naan is BUSSIN!!! The dessert they give you at the end of the meal is new to me but it works and is so delicious while clearing your palate. Our waitress' Harpreet service was top notch. Since they soft opened a couple months ago, we've been here five times. They have never disappointed! And the place is just gorgeous. They have these cool click buttons at the table now, so you can call for your waiter, very neat to order more food and drinks! read more

I came across Gulab through instagram and the food looked amazing. When I asked my friend about it, she said she didn't hear good things from people she knows who went here. I decided to take my friends here to try it out for myself. When we entered, the ambiance felt very comfortable and nice. But when we sat down, we realized how dusty it was. It's easy to miss because they keep it dark inside, but there was dusty everywhere: on the lamp/lights, table, chair, walls. They use a push button to summon the waiter when needed which didn't bother us. We ordered a lot of food including samosas, Chana masala, lentil soup, naan, veggie Manchurian, baingan bharta, and aloo gobi. To be honest, we were not impressed with the food. It lacked flavor or it flat out didn't taste good. To add, every single one of our waters tasted like soap. I'm not sure if it was from the cup or actual water. They gave us free drinks, which I believe was a fennel based drink but didn't taste good. There was also some communication issues we had come across. When they brought the food to us, we were missing orders of naan bread. So we told the waiter and he seemed to not understand but he said okay and gave us our naan bread. He thought we wanted "more" and charged us extra for naan on the bill when we were trying to tell him we were missing the ones we originally ordered. Also, I ordered a mango lassi and when given to me, I found a bug inside. I told the waiter and showed it to him. I said not to replace it and to remove the item from the bill if possible. He said okay and took it away. It still made it on the bill so that added more to the frustration of our unpleasant experience. Overall, all of us agreed that we would not recommend or come back to Gulab. read more

Nice restaurant. Convenient location. Have been there in person and hand food to go. Everything is spicier than I can handle. If you like spicy then this is the place for you. I like teasing the food without the burn or the after burn. With so many Indian restaurants to pick from this is not my go to. read more

This place definitely has the wow factor as far as ambiance. Love all the golds and jewel tones throughout. We were greeted and seated immediately on a Friday evening which is really nice. Too many restaurants in Fresno are crazy during the weekend and impossible to get into without a long wait or reaThey also have a call button at the table for when you need service. I absolutely love this idea and feel like this should just be a regular thing at restaurants. One thing that I noticed was the restaurant was kept cold. I needed to keep my coat on unfortunately. I run colder, but I noticed others had their jackets on as well, so it wasn't just me. The food itself was good. We got the butter chicken and chicken tikka masala. I enjoyed both and would go again, but I have had slightly better of both as far as flavor. They also seemed to switch the spice level that we asked for on each, but that wasn't a big deal. Great ambiance if you want a little wow factor! read more

Nice place but I did not eat in. Prompt service. Great goat biryani though need to use less oil. The tikka masala were tasty, medium spicy was enough for me. It maybe a bit much for some as my spice level tolerance is high. Love the cucumber salad, it took the heat off the tikka masala. I will go back again read more

Beautiful interior! I wish everywhere tried half as much as this place does to deliver a good experience. Beautiful menus as well. The service was lackluster, it took 20 minutes to receive menus once we were seated. And we frequently were out of water. There is a "doorbell" feature to summon a waiter, but I don't think you should have to do so for a menu nor water refills. The food was decent, the cauliflower dish was stellar. The cilantro sauce was amazing, but nothing else had the heat I had hoped for. The vindaloo mutton (ordered hot) was not at all spicy, tiny (maybe a four ounce portion), and 90% bone, for $22. Disappointing. read more

I've been here several times already because food is very yummy! It's a really well decorated restaurant with delicious food. The spice level hits right - they don't shy away from adding heat! The servers are attentive. This would be a good date night spot - ambiance is a little on the dark side. They also brought food in to my workplace so I really appreciated that and thought it was smart marketing :) Thanks Gulab! If you're not white and want bad service, definitely go, otherwise, I suggest try another Indian restaurant. I've had food at other Indian restaurants and food and service are both excellent. Food was delicious 9/10, but service was horrible! When we waked in, the place looked beautiful, thought the service was going to be just as grand since they have a 4 1/2 star review on yelp. They sat us at a corner table and took about 20 minutes to give us water. The gentlemen, Caucasians, came 5-10 minutes after us and got water and drinks right away. After waiting for so long, we thought we had to use the QR code at the table to order because no one came to check on us. I was about to send the order when somebody finally came. I asked if we were supposed to order from the QR code and he said no that they're supposed to get our order. We ordered. Food was great. They checked on us once while they checked on the other tables with "white" people several times. When we finished eating, we waited to see if anyone would come ask if we were done. No one of course. I had to wave someone as they were leaving another table for some to go boxes and our check. They brought one tiny box and no check. It wasn't until I told them the service was horrible that they were attentive to us. They gave us a 10% discount and tried to give us coupons for our next time. I said no thank you because there will be no next time. read more

Came here for dinner on a Friday and there was a wait. Decor was very nice but a bit loud. Food had good flavor but small portions and did not come with rice. Servers bus the tables onto a cart so you get to watch them scrape other people's food into a trash can in front of your table. They leave a call button on your table, but when we used it, no one came. Located in a strip mall with free parking. read more

Gulag is easily one of the best kept secrets in Clovis. We sat and ate for four hours just at the bar and had several mixed cocktails. Akash is a mixologist - so with no cocktail menu, come prepared to ask for what you want and be amazed - I even threw a few curve balls his way like a grasshopper and an old fashioned and they were easily the best made I've had. The lamb chops are amazing, their Chana Bhatura is amazing, so much flavor. If you enjoy spice, ask for the "hot" setting to enjoy a full bodied flavor without melting your face off. Pro tip - ask for the "secret menu" which includes things such as pani puri (gol gappe) which has tamarind and mint and is beautifully seasoned and balanced. Finally and most importantly - the restaurant itself is beautiful. The music is kept low enough to contribute but you can whisper and still be heard. As a designer, I was blown away by the way they managed to take contemporary and classical elements to create an out of this world experience with their tones of gold and blues. Easily one of my favorite restaurants - and I don't mean specifically for the central California area. This spot is amazing for a date night. For dinner with friends. Or even by yourself. Pro tip: ask for the Saag. It's an experience in and of itself. Spinach that is delicious and amazing. Oh! And veteran owned - special bonus. read more

I've had the fish tacos, which are a great healthier alternative because the fish is not deep-fried. I also have had their salads which are amazing and you can customize them depending on what kind of dressings and proteins you'd like. I've never had any of their alcoholic beverages, but they look and sound really good. They also always have wines and beer selections that appear to be from different areas in California. The only reason I'm giving it four stars is that they always seem a little understaffed when I'm there. Usually, I notice one server sometimes to taking care of most of the tables.

The kitchen was unfortunately closed so I can't comment about the food, but this seems like a great place to hang out at the bar and grab a couple of beers if you happen to be in town.

This was my first time trying Gulab Indian Bistro in Clovis, and I'm so happy I checked it out! I got seated really quickly, put my order in right away, and the food came out fast, which is always a big plus for me. I started with the veggie samosas, and they were delicious. They were filled with spices, potatoes, and peas, and the flavors were really good. I also ordered the garlic naan, and I'm so glad I did because it paired perfectly with the butter chicken. The butter chicken itself had a lot of flavor and was really good. I also tried the chicken tikka masala, and I think I liked that one even more. Not that the butter chicken wasn't good, but the tikka masala had a nice little kick to it that I really enjoyed. Overall, I'm really happy I tried this place. Left Without Eating Because of Disappointing Service I was really looking forward to dining here, hoping for a warm and welcoming experience from a place that represents our culture. Unfortunately, the service was so lackluster and cold-especially toward patrons who seemed to be from the Indian community-that we decided to leave before even ordering. It's heartbreaking when a restaurant serving our own cuisine doesn't show kindness or respect to its own people. We felt ignored and dismissed, which made us question whether we wanted to support a place that clearly doesn't value its core patrons.
